I had a wonderful experience at Vistamar Restaurant & Lounge on City Island. The atmosphere was beautiful, welcoming, and vibrant, making it a perfect place to celebrate my 60th birthday. The views of the water were stunning. You couldn't tell me that I wasn't at a 4-stars resort in Punta Cana. The brunch was delicious, the presentation was lovely, and the service was warm, semi-attentive (it was packed), and professional. The staff made us feel genuinely welcomed from the moment we arrived. Everything came together to make the experience enjoyable and memorable as I celebrated my 60th birthday. I would recommend Vistamar to anyone looking for a great dining experience and live entertainment on City Island. I look forward to returning and dining outdoors with my Hubby. Lastly, if you're not a fan of Latin music, beware that it was played throughout our entire time spent at Vistamar (loudly if I may add). It was too lively for Abuela seated at the next table, yet the children onsite had a time. Certainly, worthy of an 8/10 stars. Around 6:45 my family (a party of 9) came here to celebrate my sister's graduation and we're missing two from out party and let them know they would be arriving shortly. We were sat in the outside area but ultimately ended up switching inside due to the cigar smoke. We were seated at a long both ar 6:48 pm and were given the tablet menus. We observed that there is was a happy hour (Monday-Friday 12-7pm) which we were still within time frame for. We were greeted when we sat so when she came back to see if we were ready, we let her know we were wanted to order from the happy hour menu. She said "after seven?", we asked whether to confim that it was still not 7? She replied, no and told us that happy hour was only one drink per guest. We each ordered a drink and had a one order of calamari, sliders, and a dozen and a half of oysters. That was all we got to experience as 8:30pm rolled around and we still had no main course. My stepbrother asked to speak to a manager where we he disclosed our frustrations with the service. A non-black family of 4 came in 20 minutes after us, and not only received appetizers, but main courses as well and were properly attended to. My 9-year-old waited 20 mins for a ginger ale. Table full of empty glasses and plates from appetizers as no one come to clear the table. On said dirty table they placed our silverware. My sister asked the sever 3 times for napkin which still had not been given after the silberware was placed directly on the tableb and we still had to request napkins. All to which the manager offered us two bottles of champagne. Where we had three minors (9, 20, and my 18 year sister who's graduation we were celebrating) my stepfather then spoke to the manager again to no resolve, he paid the bill of the little we had and my sister left in tears. Visited Vista Mar recently and overall had a good experience. The food was definitely enjoyable. I'd rate it an 8/10. The environment and vibe were also solid, especially with the live entertainment that kept the energy up throughout the night. The hookah option was a nice touch and added to the overall lounge atmosphere. Service was decent (7/10). The wait times and getting attention from staff took a little longer than expected, but it was understandable considering how busy the restaurant was. The music selection personally wasn't my favorite. It was about 90% Spanish music with very little variety from other genres, so I'd rate the music around a 2/5. If you enjoy predominantly Spanish music, though, you'll probably like the vibe more than I did. The pre fix menu was reasonably priced at $85.99 per person, and the options were okay for the value. Overall, I would visit again, but next time I'd definitely want to experience the outdoor seating area since I've heard that's one of the best parts of the restaurant. read more

It's very rare to find a Restaurant in City Island that offer Happy Hours so we ventured out to Vistamar to try their Happy Hour Drinks. To my surprise, no one was sitting at the bar when we arrived so we had a choice of seats. This restaurant has a very elegant decor and I was looking forward to trying their drinks. The mixologist handed us an iPad which had all of the menus, drinks along with pictures - which was very helpful. The drinks we ordered looked exactly like the picture and were very good. We ordered a round of Sangria, Margaritas and a Lychee Martini. We were very pleased with our choices and our very pleasant mixologist who did an excellent job. Vistamar is definitely worth visiting for the drinks and we will be back to try the food. read more

I came here for my moms Birthday. It's a Hispanic fine dining restaurant in city island. We came here early afternoon on a Sunday for the brunch menu and it was an interesting experience. The interior is really nice. It's fancy and you get a view of the water. We started with sides. Everybody was able to pick a side from the brunch menu. We got chips & Guac, calamari, and I got the soup of the day. I feel like they could've done better on the calamari portions but it was definitely good quality. All the other sides were solid. My soup was good. The broth just needed more of kick to it. The octopus dish was my favorite of all. My sister got the oysters. I don't eat them so I can't speak on those. She seemed to enjoy the oysters. For the mains, I got the chicken and waffles which doesn't come with a side. Every brunch dish comes with a side besides the chicken and waffles. One of my sisters got the branzino with rice & beans and my mom got the steak and eggs with mashed potatoes. The chicken and waffles was okay. Presentation was on point. I love how they added all the fruits. The chicken had flavor but was lowkey hard/not tender as I wanted. I tried the branzino. I like how soft and flaky the fish was. The rice & beans was bland. The steak and eggs was really good. I like the portions of the steak, eggs, and mashed potatoes. Everything pairs well. If I had brunch here again I would get that dish instead. For dessert I got the flan. I love the cotton candy hit. The flan wasn't as sweet as I expected but I ate it with the cotton candy and it worked. As someone who loves Flan, it was definitely an interesting mix lol. For service, I wasn't a big fan of it. I felt like everything felt delayed. I don't know if it's because there's unlimited mimosas a part of the brunch package or something. There was only one person at the table actively drinking. We went on a Saturday so birthday celebrations were abundant adding to the festive vibe. The DJ played great music all night but the volume was loud, so it was hard to hear while conversing. Found out about this place last year and really enjoyed it, but after coming back a bunch of times since then (current Duke of Vistamar), I've realized they really play fast and loose with their rules. One of my hard NOs for some places is when they are misleading with their pricing/billing. Sometimes they honor the happy hour thru to 7, sometimes they don't and it's extremely frustrating because nobody lives out here; it can require additional effort or an uber to make it in time. So when they decide to go to 7 or stop at 6:45 (when you get there at 6:47), it's like a slap in the face. The service was extremely disappointing. We came here for brunch to celebrate my cousin's birthday, and the experience left us feeling overlooked. When it was time to sing "Happy Birthday," our table received a very quiet, half-hearted version. Meanwhile, the table next to us received a loud, energetic celebration with multiple staff members singing. We were also told that the birthday tablet wasn't working when it was our turn, yet somehow it was working perfectly fine for the other table moments later. From the outside décor to the inside ambiance, this spot was giving vacation dinner in another country energy. When we arrived, a live performance had just wrapped up, but don't worry -- we got treated to three more shows throughout dinner! I was living for the energy -- it gave the night that "we're not in Brooklyn anymore" vibe. Appetizers: I had the crab cake -- good, but not the best. He had the lobster mac & cheese and shrimp cocktail, and let me tell you, that mac & cheese was definitely the star of the starters. Entrées: I went with the lobster linguine (10/10 recommend), and he had steak with mashed potatoes and broccoli. When I say that steak was so tender it cut like butter, I mean it. I've been a loyal customer of Crab Shanty's for 35 years, so I had high hopes when I decided to try something new and visit Vistamar on City Island for a fun and classy evening by the water. Based on Google reviews, it seemed like a great pick, but the experience turned out to be quite surprising. First off, Vistamar has a Latin nightclub vibe with bachata, merengue, salsa, and heavy reggaeton music blaring so loudly you can feel it in your bones. Unfortunately, my Spanish isn't the best, and most of the staff spoke only Spanish. Even after I explained the language barrier, they couldn't hear us over the music anyway, so communication was a real challenge. Adding to the chaos, the DJ constantly interrupted the music to sing along--badly. We ordered a couple of appetizers and an entrée to share. The ceviche was mediocre at best--a 6/10. The crab cakes were the highlight of the meal and earned a solid 7.5/10. For the entrée, we got the whole lobster with shrimp, mussels, clams, octopus, corn, and potatoes in lobster sauce. Sadly, the lobster was undercooked, making it almost impossible to remove the meat from the shell. My date had to request rubber gloves to deal with it, and when we asked the waitress if the chef could crack the lobster for us, she said yes--but nothing came of it. Again, I don't think she could hear us over the music. There was one bright spot: an energetic busboy who, despite the language barrier, checked on us every two minutes and danced for every table. While we couldn't stop laughing at the sheer entertainment of it all, it didn't make up for the challenges. Overall, the experience was a 6/10. We made the best of it and had some laughs, but between the deafening music, language barriers, and underwhelming food, I can't say I'd return. If you're looking for a lively Latin dance party with okay food, this is your spot--but it's not for everyone. read more

Made a visit to celebrate a loved one's birthday who suffers from dementia. This is a beautiful restaurant with gigantic windows. The view of the water and the moored boats make you feel like you are on a nice getaway for the moment being. The food was well cooked. I recommend the brunch hour atmosphere overall. However, they raise the music to the max when they are going to have someone on stage; I would prefer a gentle announcement instead, especially for sensitive guests. Additionally, the hostess was a bit disorganized and focused on her self-image, and the waiters had to be reminded a couple of times about a couple of things. Overall, it was still a good experience. I went to this restaurant to see a Francisco Céspedes concert, and unfortunately, the experience was very disappointing because of the poor quality of the service. My friends and I purchased our tickets in advance, but when we arrived, we were informed that, in addition to having tickets, we also needed a table reservation--something that had never been communicated to us. After waiting quite a while, we were finally seated. Once we were seated, we were given Ipads / menu. However, when we were ready to order, we were told that only a special drink menu was available for the evening, with outrageously high prices. We decided to stay anyway, but both our drinks and food took about an hour to arrive. To make matters worse, we were charged for a bottle of mineral water that was never brought to our table. Throughout the evening, we noticed that other tables were being served drinks that were supposedly unavailable on the special menu, including glasses of wine, beer, and whiskey. When we asked our server about it, she insisted that wasn't possible and asked us to point out the tables where we had seen those drinks. Only after we showed her did she agree to take our order. As if that weren't enough, just before the show started, one of the managers moved the three of us from our table to a much smaller table meant for only two people to accommodate a larger party. It was uncomfortable and made us feel that our reservation and our experience mattered less than seating a bigger group. The only person who truly made a positive difference that evening was Jonathan, a Colombian server who went out of his way to help us with kindness and professionalism. Without him, the experience would have been much worse. At the end of the evening, one of the managers in the parking lot was asking guests how they had enjoyed the night. I honestly told him that I loved the concert and thought the restaurant itself was beautiful, but that the service and the inconsistency in how customers were treated left a lot to be desired. He seemed to listen carefully, but his response was, "I owe you a drink." With all due respect, you don't owe me a drink. I can pay for my own drinks. What I expected was an acknowledgment of the problems and a genuine commitment to improving the service so that future guests don't have to go through the same experience. Unfortunately, such a wonderful performance was overshadowed by such poor service. The lack of organization, slow service, inconsistent prices and treatment of customers, and incorrect charges turned what should have been a memorable evening into a frustrating one. I will not be returning, and unfortunately, I cannot recommend this restaurant. read more

Visited Vistamar for my sister's birthday during their Wednesday cigar and live music night. We were seated right away outside, and although the live music was quite loud, the view was amazing. We got there right around sunset and it couldn't have been prettier. They are doing some updating inside their restaurant, but overall, the ambience indoor is beautiful- I loved the bar and various photo op spots. I would opt to sit inside for the next visit. Jonathan was our server and he seemed new to the gig. Nonetheless, he was attentive when we called him over and adhered to our requests. For drinks we ordered bottle service which came out right away. For dinner we got the seafood tower which was HUGE. The only complaint I had was the whole lobster served with it. It was so messy to break this lobster down and most of it ended up going to waste :( We ordered a few other appetizer samplers and they were not bad but for the price our expectations were higher. Overall, for the steep price of dinner, I expected better tasting options and better communication from the servers. For 6 adults, with bottle service and mainly appetizers, our total bill was $630. The entertainment and disney characters for the kids is a nice touch, the restaurant is spacious, they have some tacky decor for photo ops which people seem to be into, and there's valet service upon arrival The service was mediocre, the waitress had an attitude the whole time, and very difficult to get any subs from the menu, ie: I prefer my eggs Sunnyside up instead of scrambled but they wouldn't comply with my request, they promote bottomless brunch but i got 2 drinks during that 90 mins span and then had to order coktails from the bar and the food was ok nothing to rave about or come back to. read more

We were able to catch the last round of happy hour service. After that it took about 20 minutes for someone to take our order. At that time we still the 2nd table on the inside to be present. At 7:40pm we notice that other people at other tables were getting their food and we weren't served yet. I was given an excuse that the kitchen was backed up. At 8pm I inquired about the status of our food and was told that I had to wait because they were also serving people in their beautiful outdoor seating. It's a gorgeous view. I mentioned that when I came in, there was only one other table of customers and why are people eating and we are not. The waiter just shrugged his shoulders and aske me to be patient. At 8:20pm, my husband, daughter, and I were quietly leaving when the hostess says "thank you for coming"... Met up here with my family for Saturday brunch. My daughter ordered French toast with cotton candy which was presented nicely, as well as her fudge brownie with ice cream dessert. My sister didn't think the food tasted as good as it looked. I only tried their mimosa, it was fresh and strong, they offer bottomless for 2 hours. There are many lovely areas for photo ops. The hostess was rude, had a poor attitude and made us feel like we were an inconvenience rather than welcomed guest. First impressions matter and unfortunately this set the tone for our visit. I brought this concern to the manager on duty and during the conversation it felt as though this type of behavior was acceptable which was disappointing- he did not even provide a thank you for bringing the concerns forward. What a fantastic holiday find! I'm so glad we decided to try this spot during happy hour (some restaurants were not doing happy hour due to the holiday). My partner and I enjoyed both the red and white sangria, along with delicious coconut shrimp, fresh oysters, and flavorful empanadas. And at just $10 a glass, the sangria packed a punch, seriously, where else can you find such a great deal on strong drinks? Get there at 5:30 latest thought because they're are very funny about offering happy hour as the time approaches 6. The space is also beautiful it's great for happy hour or a good night out. The bartender was really amazing, offering her suggestions and she was spot on. Both drinks were really good, and of course the presentation of the Jack Sparrow was super dope. Now, there was a live DJ and this is one of those times where I was not feeling this vibe at all. Aside from only playing Spanish music, the music was SO LOUD. Like I could not even here the person I was with. It was super annoying and it seemed like the DJ was not reading the room.
