Dr. Dodge himself is an excellent care provider and makes the exam process a breeze. However the staff that handles glasses and contacts unfortunately take away from the entire experience. First example, they were unable to acquire a certain brand of contacts however I was charged for them and it took me months of calling to get my refund. Each time I called they said "it's coming" and the last call I guess someone who knows how to process refunds did it right then and there. This took maybe 2.5 months. Second example, I had to keep going back to get my glasses fixed since I literally can't see out of them. They would either send it back to the technicians or try to fix them in the office and basically just said "keep wearing them". The back and forth, shipping of the glasses, the delay in the glasses arriving themselves took over a year. So I finally told them these aren't working out a year had passed and I was SOL. Dr. dodge even mentioned to them to let me have a new pair but I was denied. I asked to speak to the office manager and told her that Dr Dodge was okay with it and she never called me back. I've been seeing Dr. Dodge for 15 years and only since they moved to the new office it's been painful dealing with the office staff. I would highly recommend him for care however if you can get your glasses or contacts online just go that route. read more

When I came in here in April to update my contact presentation I finally graduated up to getting bifocal contacts. So then the gradual move would be to update the lenses for my glasses. So after a long delay in my schedule I finally came in here last minute today to get that done. I had such a pleasant experience because one of their reps Wilson was so knowledgeable and helpful in assisting me make all the calculations of which best options I had based on my insurance coverage and having very insightful suggestions without being too pushy or overbearing about the choices I could make. I'm sad to write this review. I've been a patient of Dr. Dodge for several years, and my actual visits with him have always been pleasant. Unfortunately, for the past three years I've had repeated issues ordering contacts and glasses through the office. My most recent contact lens order is what finally prompted me to share my experience. About a month ago I ordered contacts and my card was charged around $300. After hearing nothing, I called to check in and was told the manufacturer "never delivered" my order. Immediately after that call, I received an email receipt from the office dated that same day--making it pretty clear the order hadn't been placed until I followed up. I understand mistakes happen, but this has happened before, and it's become a pattern. The tough part is that I'm now out of contacts while I wait (possibly another month). I also asked if I could get a sample pair to hold me over, and that request was declined, even though the delay was caused by the office not placing the order. As much as I've liked Dr. Dodge personally, the ordering/fulfillment process has been consistently unreliable, so I'll be taking my business elsewhere. read more

During my exam they did catch something from a surgery I had years ago and gave me a referral to a specialist. I truly hate writing this because Dr. Dodge is a phenomenal, kind, and thorough eye doctor. His care is 5-star, but the administrative experience has become a major deterrent. The current system of using a remote receptionist who is disconnected from the office's daily operations is failing patients. I've had multiple instances where messages weren't relayed, and requests for assistance with costly myopia control lenses for my daughter were completely mishandled. I requested 2 boxes of trials to get my daughter through to her next appointment before running out of contacts. By the way, in the past they have told me they would be happy to provide extras if we came up short a couple weeks. The lenses are expensive and the exam and lenses are not covered by insurance so getting a handful of extras should not be an issue. After being told my samples were ready, I drove from Encino only to be met by a "short" employee who provided only one box of trials and claimed to know nothing about my email exchange or request. To make matters worse, after a second trip to pick up the remainder, I got home to find they were the wrong prescription entirely. Thankfully I noticed after I opened the package and before my daughter attempted to wear them. Dr. Dodge, your clinical care is top-tier, but the front office staff and communication gaps do not align with the quality of your practice. I hope to see changes soon, as I would hate to have to find a new doctor, especially for my daughter who requires specialized eye care. read more

I and my Partner have been going to Visualeyes optometry for 8 years. Up until now, we have been happy with Dr. Dodge and his staff, until these last 2 visits, and I'm very sorry to say that I have now decided to take my business elsewhere. The most outstanding reason is my experience with their office manager, Victoria. I want to be clear that the staff there are very nice and professional, excluding Victoria, and this review is in consideration of the treatment I received at my last two visits. Three visits ago I had purchased several packages of eye drops. When I got home, I learned that my partner actually needed a similar eye drop, same manufacturer but different version. I had asked at my next visit, October 10th, which was close to the one before, if we could exchange the drops since they were unopened and they were in perfect condition. When I had asked Victoria if we could exchange them, I was unaware that my partner had been there earlier that day and had asked the same question, as I had come straight from my workplace. She proceeded to dress me down in front of the other staff and clients there and said very loudly and sternly, " I already told your Partner we could not do that, and Dr. Dodge told her the same thing." I was so taken aback and shocked at the way she spoke to me, that I felt it best to say nothing at the time, as I was so upset with her treatment of me, and I decided to let it go about the eye drops and to move on. When I spoke to my Partner that evening, I found out that Dr. Dodge actually said he would look into it and see if it was possible and would let us know. He never let us know. At this time I was also picking up a new pair of sunglasses. I tried them on and told the Optician that I didn't like the way they fit and I was not happy with them. They felt like they were a size too big and they were falling off of my nose. He told me to take them home and try them on and then if I was still unhappy, to come back when I picked up my new computer glasses that they were also making for me at this time, and he would speak to the insurance company to see if there was any way I could exchange them. When I returned yesterday to pick up my new computer glasses and to try to exchange the sunglasses, Victoria, the office manager, was at the desk at the front of the store. She spoke to me in a very cold manner, and then proceeded to ignore me. I mentioned to another optician I was working with, Sarah, that I was still unhappy with the sunglasses and wanted to see if I could exchange them. She checked with the office manager, Victoria who was now in the back, and told me Victoria said it had been too long and they were not going to do anything for me. I said to the optician, Sarah, that it had only been a few weeks and that I had been told by the other optician there, that I could bring them back if I was unhappy and see if the insurance company would exchange them. I said I didn't realize it was up to the office manager and not the insurance company. She said she would go back and speak with her once she was done with her appointment in the back, where Sarah told me that she was giving an exam to a family of five. I was very surprised that the office manager was also giving customers eye exams and a family five all at once at that. It seemed like a crazy excuse to not talk to me. Sarah, the optician, felt very badly about the whole situation when I explained to her what had happened. She said that she would call the insurance company herself, tomorrow, and see if there was anything that could be done because she felt there might be an option. She said she would call me back today and let me know. I thanked her for being willing to go the extra mile for me and at least check. I also let her know that I had been planning to buy another pair of glasses that day as a replacement for my regular glasses, but considering what was happening right now, I was going to wait before doing that. I also left a message with their answering service after I left, asking Dr. Dodge to please call me anytime today as I would like to speak with him about my experience there yesterday. I did not receive a call from Sarah today, nor did I receive a call from Dr. Dodge. Obviously my 8 years of being a very good customer of theirs, and buying an average of two to three pairs of glasses a year (sunglasses, computer glasses, regular eyeglasses) did not matter to them. Nor did it matter to them that I was unhappy with the way that Victoria had treated me. It has nothing to do with the cost of the glasses or the fact that I couldn't return the eye drops. It had everything to do with the horrible customer service from their office manager, Victoria. We live in Los Angeles and there are tons of options of places to go to get glasses, considering what happened here recently, and the total lack of response from their staff and Dr. Dodge, I will be taking my business elsewhere in the future. read more

As a new patient coming from the dark, overcrammed Optometry spots in K-Town, this place is a breath of fresh air! Its modern and organized. LOTS of brand and style options to try on. The staff are friendly and patient - especially after you've tried on every pair in the store. :) Dr. Dodge is wonderful. He's personable and happy to as any questions on the spot. He also explained everything he did, as he was doing it, without me asking. He also provided little "You passed" and "Thats great" responses to each of the tests that were performed. Lots of good. The one gripe I have is parking. There is a lot but its paid and its not very straightforward where to go - which lot, which door, etc. I'll never go to another Optometrist again. read more

I've been a patient for 6 years and I really didnt want to give a bad review. Dr. Dodge is wonderful and he deserves 5/5 stars. But I had a very bad experience with the staff on the phone... I was running late to my appointment because there was a traffic jam on the 405. I called the office 20 minutes before my appointment time to let them know I would be 18 minutes late. I live in Playa Vista so it's a bit of a hike to drive up there. The woman on the phone would not accomodate me at all. She said that they only have a "15 minute grace period". I told her I was only going to be 18 minutes late and I was already halfway there. She told me that I had to reschedule and they couldn't take me. For being 3 minutes past the grace period?? This was a HUGE inconvenience for me... I took off work for this appointment... I'm low on contacts and needed to restock ASAP...I was already 30 minutes in my drive there, stuck on the 405... And there was "nothing" they could do apparently. If they're unable to accomodate me for being a couple minutes late because of the unpredictable traffic in Los Angeles, then they've just lost a loyal customer of 6 years. I ended up driving for 1 hour for no reason... Thanks to the lady on the phone, I decided to find eye-care closer to me. read more

I found Visualeyes Optometry here on Yelp and was convinced to give them a try from all their 5-star reviews. I am happy to say the reviews are well-earned! My experience with Dr. Dodge and his team has also been 5 stars! I was excited to meet Dr. Dodge after seeing his video on his website. He seemed genuinely passionate about optometry and helping people, and after meeting him in person, I totally felt it; it's true. It makes such a huge difference when people really love their work and bring their joy to helping others. This was my first visit to an optometrist for an exam to determine if I need glasses since my young childhood. I've been very fortunate to have, as Dr. Dodge affectionately says, "boring eyes" -- in that, medically, they are so healthy as to not need much beyond baseline wellness care. However, as I age, I have been fearing my far vision has become less than optimal. I had no idea just how much I took for granted not seeing very well at a distance until the eye exam. The feeling -- I'm not kidding, I was so happy I almost cried -- the feeling of just... the confidence, really, the excitement... to be able to see the tiny bottom line of the eye test and just say those letters out loud super fast because I could actually, honestly see them without guessing... I mean, it was rather thrilling! Their motto rang true for me: they made my eyes smile, y'all. Not joking. I felt happy. Wilson was also super patient and informative while I shopped for frames, too. I've never in all my life ever thought I'd wear glasses. Sunglasses, sure, but I just wear aviators cuz they look cool on almost everyone. I really took my time to find frames that felt like "me" but I could still afford. I kept gravitating to a pair, comparing others to them, and eventually just figured there was a reason I liked them so much, and got them. I'm so looking forward to my new glasses. I had gone in thinking I'd just get some cheap ugly frames cuz I'd only ever wear them while driving -- behind some oversized aviator sunnies, no less. But I'm genuinely excited to wear them in the world, like, just to actually see stuff. Like, more than just parking restriction signs from half a block down after I've already found a good spot. Like, to just see the details far out in front of my face. I took for granted how beautiful it is. I kind of regret assuming I didn't need distance vision for so many years. Anyhow, I totally recommend Visualeyes Optometry. Dr. Dodge is an expert with passion, and the office has a happy, energetic vibe; they really do care about helping people be able to see the beauty in the world. This office is fantastic. Everyone was VERY friendly, including Dr. Lee. They were all very efficient, quick, intelligent and graceful! I was in and out within 45 minutes and I never felt rushed! I haven't gotten my eyes checked in over two years since I was a MBA student with no vision coverage. Now that I am an adult in the working world with strong vision insurance, I wanted to take advantage of my yearly exam and upgrade my glasses. It was really easy to make the appointment and they send the paperwork to you via email so you don't have to spend 15 minutes filling it out when you get there in person. I really liked how strict they are with mask-wearing, I'm a new yorker so I was extremely paranoid when it came to people not abiding by the rules. The eye exam was smooth, Dr. Dodge has a great bedside manner and he shared his love of food and travel with me. It was great to just have a conversation without it being so clinical. I then worked with Avan who helped me go through 200 pairs of sunglasses when I finally found my favorite Ferragamo pair. He was so patient to explain the breakdown of my insurance and what they would cover. I was able to get the sunglasses comped by my insurance plus adding in polarization. I also changed the lenses of my favorite Chloe frame that I got in New York to one that was upgraded to my current Rx. All in all, it took about 4 weeks to get my sunglasses and glasses back and my life has changed. Having prescription sunglasses is such a game-changer, I can now read the street signs and license plates of cars. Avan was such a pleasure to work with and he was extremely patient because I seem to not make up my mind and spent more time than I expected. The only downside is that they don't validate in the parking structure. Pro Tip just park further into the residential area and walk down Huston to the office. read more

I had a comprehensive eye exam and contact lens fitting with Dr. Lee Dodge. I was in and out in less than 45 minutes. From start to finish I felt like I was in great hands. Everyone was informative and knew what they were talking about. Everyone was very nice as well. The office has top of the line technology. I think I was most excited to find out they don't do the puff of air in your eye, instead they have a nice piece of equipment that taps VERY GENTLY on the eye (you dont even feel it). I opted out of having my eyes dilated and substituted that with paying a small fee to have a retinal scan done that will be stored and can be compared in years to come. Dr. Dodge is a nice guy but my experience was not nice. I had my eyes checked and got a new prescription for glasses. I took it to my glasses store and waited two weeks to get my glasses and when I tried them on they weren't right. Visualeyes said come back and have our glasses people look at the new ones. They didn't know what was wrong so they said to come back for the third time to have my eyes checked again. I got a new prescription and took it to my glasses store and waited AGAIN. I just picked them up and lo and behold they still aren't right. read more

Dear, Visualeyes Optometry, Where to begin? What a wonderful experience, I must say. Let's start from the beginning, shall we? I found Visualeyes Optometry through yelp because of their insane reviews. So glad I did. I made a call to schedule an appointment and from my first phone call I was already so pleasantly surprised by the customer service, the young lady who scheduled my appointment was the SWEETEST. I was able to get a same day appointment for myself and my boyfriend. Score! So as others have mentioned, they don't validate parking. From what I hear, it's only $1 or so. Not bad. Luckily for me, they are right across the street from the facility my grandma is in and I'm always there. So if you don't mind the walk, there's street parking on the residential street, Huston. 2 minute walk, free parking! Any-who, we arrived to be welcomed by everyone with smiles and energy was amazing right off the bat. I was taken in right away. Did some tests with the tech, & was seen by the doctor right away. (They have all the latest equipment, btw) Dr. Dodge was so helpful and kind. He was patient with my thousand questions and had a wonderful bed side manner which you can't really say about a lot of doctors haha. Thanks Doc! On to the glasses, I'm sooooo picky. And I can't imagine dealing with people like me LOL. It's really hard for me to find a pair of glasses that I like on myself. The girls were sooo patient with me, and so helpful. I finally narrowed it down to 2 pairs I liked, and that's when I sat down with Syesha. Shout out to you boo!! She took her time and did everything she could to break down the price for my broke ass LOL. She gave me her opinion straight up and wasn't trying to sell me, she wanted me to love the way i looked in them! She also saw my current glasses need a little tweaking and her and the girls fixed them up for me! It was so late, i think past 6pm and they didn't rush me one bit even though I saw they were tired. Today I took my 6 year old and myself for eye exams with Dr. Dodge, and I cannot say enough good things about the entire staff at VisualEyes. First of all, the Covid precautions are fantastic. When you walk in, there's a spot for you to stand while your temperature is taken and you answer screening questions, after which sanitizer is sprayed into your hands. Everyone in the office wears a mask (and wears it well), and distance was observed when possible. And as you would expect in any doctor's office, all of the equipment was wiped down before and after every use. Dr. Dodge himself was great with the kiddo, who can have a really hard time holding still. It was her first eye exam, and she was nervous, but it was clear that Dr. Dodge's personality put her very much at ease. When it came to be my turn he was so helpful with changes to my prescription and discussing other issues with me. He's very knowledgeable, warm, and friendly. I've lived in Los Angeles (and worn glasses or contacts) most of my life at this point, and I've never had an optometrist that I *had to* go back to each time.
