I went to this restaurant 14 years ago and I finally made it back to Puerto Vallarta for the week. I decided to try it again as I had such a memorable experience the first time I went. I had authentic Mexican food for several nights at dinner and I was now looking for a great steak. This restaurant has a perfect location on the boardwalk and you have the choice of eating inside or outside. Since it was pretty toasty, we chose inside. This place offered a tenderloin with fries and it was just as fantastic as I remembered it from the last time. The sauce that accompanies that steak had so much flavor. It is right on the main path and so you might suspect this is totally targeted for tourists with bad food and high prices, but it was not that at all and the food was amazingly fresh and delicious. I had the fish tacos and asked that they grill it instead of fry it. I also had the shrimp and octopus cocktail. Both were just incredible. Food was excellent ! Started with very good bread and butter that started the delicious meal. Had the Fish (mahi-mahi) fillet on a bed with sautéed spinach. Fish was perfectly cooked and the right amount of spicy flavors of the sauce. Please keep the following in mind while reading this review: We came in on a Wednesday night, with moderate foot traffic out front, and the restaurant itself wasn't terribly busy, I wouldn't even say dinner rush was there, just kinda a normal Wednesday night level of diners. I'll start by saying when we actually got it, the food was pretty good. The service was this establishments downfall however. We were seated at one of their outdoor tables, and not even one of the outermost tables at that, a good middle table bordered by tables on all sides, this is important to a later part of the story. We ordered our food, 3 of us got the special, one of us the fish of the day. Food was well cooked, and well seasoned. Nothing really stood out, but it was a good meal, when we finally got the food. Took about 20 minutes for our apps to come out, and then about 30 minutes before we got our main course, and another 20-25 minutes for us to finally get asked if we were ready for our deserts, and then another 10-15 minutes for them to get there. During these large swaths of time there was no checkins from the waiter to see if we needed anything or anything of the sort. Perhaps this isn't a cultural norm at restaurants in Mexico, and I'm being over-sensitive because I'm used to American and European dining experiences, who knows. There were however several checkins by street beggars. Now remember when i said we weren't on a border table so theres both a combination of these beggars having some cajones on 'em, and the restaurant not doing anything about it. It also took an inordinately long amount of time for us to get our check. At any rate, the food was good, id give it a solid 5/7, but the service really killed this spot for me. read more

First of all, we didn't have a reservation and were feeling slightly uncomfortable about how we were treated. The restaurant was maybe three quarters full if that. Our waiter, Antonio, was just there to take our order, no personality at all. Our food, when it finally arrived and after two margaritas waiting was simply so so. This was our first dining experience out, we are here for 6 weeks and we won't be back, ever. Make a reservation this month of February to get where you want to eat! read more

Was there last night. Disappointing to say the least. We are used to typical PV service, but this seemed much slower than usual. My wife had duck and I had the red snapper and lobster linguini. The presentation and flavor of mine left much to be desired. (Lobster cut in half lengthwise and charred.). Most expensive item on the menu and I was disappointed. Over priced and we won't be coming back. We have been coming to PV for 10 years, first time here based on recommendations, and this was not what we expected from such a highly rated restaurant. So a great experience at a mid-range price. Is right at the south end of the Malecon with beautiful ocean views and people watching galore. Outdoor seating with canopies, so you are protected from the sun. But some inside seating too. Brunch offerings are wide-ranging with mainly North American style options - all with slight Mexican twists. Quiche with roasted vegetables was AMAZING! Salad with interesting and yummy too. Vitea is a popular spot during the day and night. They are right along the Malecon which is the main walkway along the beach and from one side of town to the other. It is a lovely spot for lunch but at night the whole area really comes alive. They have a wide variety of food and drinks and can also get busy so reservations are recommended. I had the rigatoni and I really enjoyed it. I ordered the small size which was still quite a generous portion. The cauliflower appetizer was enjoyed by everyone as was the tempura shrimp. Friday and Saturday night are especially busy with all of the locals coming out to enjoy themselves and to take advantage of the cooler weather. read more

This place is great, the ratings are accurate. I'd like it if we could give half ratings because they are more of a 4.5. Very please, service was amazing. I got the fish tacos which is something I rarely order after having the perfect ones years ago in Ensenada and being disappointed since so I gave up trying, well lesions learned, don't give up. I loved my meal and will be back. The view of course is amazing but unlike other places with great views they don't let that allow them to relax their standards. This is a must visit! Do yourself a favor and stop in for the cheese plate and calamari! The bread and sauces at this spot are great. The calamari was fried nicely and it was so tender! Perfection. My only other recommendation is sit inside. I know the view on the patio is nice but you'll be constantly annoyed by the barkers selling jewelry and hair braiding. If you must sit on the patio, sit back away from the rail. read more

There were only two other occupied tables so it wasn't that busy during peak lunch time. They apparently had 2-for-1 beers which they didn't tell us, so we got 2 beers each. I was with my kids and not planning on having two beers. Lots of street vendors come up to you, even if you're seated alongside the building - servers don't say anything to them. They don't have a kids menu. 3yo Son wanted chicken fingers/tenders and daughter mac and cheese. They couldn't make chicken fingers, but pointed to another expensive, adult-sized chicken entree. I thought that was strange that they had chicken options for adults but couldn't make a kids version.. Server said he'd make pasta alfredo (no meat) for my 5yo, but then charged us $175. I pointed out other similar entrees are $100 MX, but they didn't budge. Felt like they took advantage because we're tourists. Overall it was okay. I imagine it's best if you just order what's on the menu and enjoy the view. Also their flowers attract bees so be aware if you sit alongside the bushes/flowers. We kept fighting them off our drinks. I'll be avoiding this place next time. I don't recommend it for families with young kids. read more

My guess is they refilled the bottles - the waiter brought the bottle to the table with the lid off. My wife got sick right away. You don't want details. Vitea has been one of my most favorite Vallarta restaurants for years. I actually prefer the more casual ambience here to the stuffiness I feel at Trio. The food is equally as good if not better seeing as they also offer the absolute most delicious breakfasts and lunches as well. I seriously have never had anything here that I did not ABSOLUTELY LOVE. What a super cute bistro right on the Malecon! The covered patio is a great spot for people watching and makes for a lively atmosphere. You will probably be entertained by some street performers so be sure to have those pesos ready for tipping. I imagine breakfast here would be a delightful experience as well but we came for dinner. We ate here on our final night in Vallarta and the fresh and flavorful cuisine was a great way to cap off an amazing trip. The menu is quite varied and very interesting so it was really hard to choose. After having pigged out for the entire week, I wanted something that wasn't going to leave me feeling overstuffed. I began with a nice, light arugula salad (with red wine poached pear, goat cheese, toasted hazelnuts) and I just couldn't resist the fresh, local grilled red snapper filet for my entree.
