Looking into switching security companies. The salesman,Christian Poulsen, is a total yes man and made up promises tosecure my business. He quoted me $2200 if I pay in full forequipment. The tech came today and they wanted $3900. Thecall was recorded and Christian Poulsen says he cannot look intothe calls. I also contacted his supervisor, Chaz Montoya, and hehas been silent. There is a reason why these calls are recorded.They already took my money for the first month and now trying toup It an additional $12 a month. If something goes wrong with the system, your only option is to get into online chat where you will wait forever and then they ask you to DIY the problem - climb up ladders, drill holes, reboot, hire your own handyman, try this and try that, change special batteries that you will need to go purchase, and then you must get into online chat again and wait again, and on and on and then start the process over as if they have never spoken to you before. In the meantime, your system is useless and you will spend countless hours getting nowhere. read more

Absolute total scam! I called - got a quote - found it a bit high so kept looking at options. Saw on Facebook a lot of great reviews so I called them back. They had no record of my original quote and the new quote - for the exact same equipment - was double! The monthly monitoring service also increased by $10. But here is the interesting part - if you choose to pay for your equipment up front and not finance through the company that is "separate" (and they do not revive a kick back) - the monthly monitoring fee goes up $15 a month. Their customer service says to call the sales department and they will honor the "missing quote" but the sales department says "odd, there is no quote saved here, how can we honor it?" You simply can't make this up. read more

I ordered an outdoor camera, the sales rep stated that I could add on an indoor camera for the same price. I said ok let's do that. When I received my box it only had one camera. I tried reaching out to sales rep, no response. I finally got a hold to someone and they stated that I had to pay another 260 as I have already paid 155. It was like a scam to get their commission as the sales rep told me that they work off commission. I should have known. Now I can't get a refund and I haven't activated anything and I just received the equipment. Somebody point me to a better security company with better customer service. read more

Vivint is just the worst. They set the system up and for the first 5 months I spent at least a couple hours every week on the phone with customer service trying to get my thermostat to function properly. Every time I contacted them I had to troubleshoot the problem all over again. "Oh you need batteries in the thermostat", "oh no batteries in the thermostat is what's causing your problem." Finally month 6 they agree to send out a new thermostat. It breaks the first night. Won't power on the heater and my house is 50*. Contact vivint... we'd be happy to troubleshoot the issue with you. 2 people came to my house to sell Vivint products and services after I communicated that I wasn't interested they continued to talk and attempt to sell. I asked that they leave my property and one man told me I needed to come down and listen. I told them again to leave my property. I went outside later to find a hand written note that essentially said " . . .if you don't want people at your door you should get vivint ". Rude, unprofessional, and inappropriate. I don't ever want these type of people at my door and what kind of company encourages such behavior. Stay away from this company. They are a bunch of crooks. In May, I called to terminate my service only to find out that not only did I need to payoff the remainder of the balance on the equipment but I also needed to buy out the contract which had another 12 months remaining. When I installed the service the selling agent only mentioned that I would need to payoff the equipment and did not mention the contract. My fault for not reading the fine print. Either way I paid off the equipment and contract. Today, I received a new bill for the present month. When I called to find out what the issue is I was informed that in order to cancel/terminate my service I need to send in a written request. None of which was mentioned before. Now I have to wait for their team to review the transcript of the call and see if I'm right about not being informed. The kicker is that regardless of that fact, I bought out the contract. So essentially they are double charging me which they expect me to pay since it takes 30 days to cancel a contract. Definitely not worth the hassle and their service is not that great! read more

We are very unhappy with the services from Vivint, and are having a hard time getting this resolved with your customer service team. Here are our issues: 1. The doorbell camera keeps failing us over and over. It fails to record. We have called you to come fix it several times. 2. This leads to the 2nd issue- you charge us to come fix the equipment every time there is an issue! We should not be charged because of your faulty equipment. 3. We've recently moved, and we tried to get out of our contract- you would not let us. you told us to leave the messed up equipment at our old home. You said that you would come and install new equipment at our new home . So we left the old equipment at our old home. Now, we are in our new house, and we have no equipment or alarm because you want to charge us $700 for new equipment!!! This is outrageous! We are also still being charged $70 a month for a service that we don't have because we have no equipment at our new home. We are filing a complaint with the BBB. We just want out of our contract. Your customer service team is not helpful and your whole business model is a scam because the equipment fails to work properly and you charge your customers to come fix it. I recently terminated my service with ADT because it never worked correctly. There were a few companies on my list and Vivint was my second choice after ADT. Before cancelling ADT, I called Vivint to get their prices to provide the same service, same sensors, etc. They gave me a price and it was really good. Terminating ADT took a month. Once ADT was finally out, I called Vivint and told them I'm ready to sign up based on the quote I was provided. They told me they had no record of my price quote, so we started over. I provided the exact same requirements and this time the price was twice as high as what I was originally quoted. I said I want to talk to the person who made the first quote and they said he doesn't work there anymore! I told them I would not sign up with them if they're going to changing their pricing around and not honor the written quote I was just given. They agreed to lower the price somewhat and met me in the middle. The price was still good, so I signed up, but I told them I wanted a 30 day cancellation period instead of 3. They agreed, and thank god for that! First problem was that I had 3 flood sensors left over from ADT. The technician said I couldn't use them and would need to buy new ones from Vivint, but he didn't have any. A week later, a different tech came with the sensors but said the ones I had WOULD work. I decided to buy one new sensor from him anyway, but then Vivint charged me for 2 and I had to fight with them to refund the other one. A week after the system was installed, I had some electrical work done on my house and the power was turned off for a few hours. When the power came back on, the entire system stopped working. I noticed the next day while I was at work and not able to arm, disarm, or view the cameras. I called their tech support and they said they could not fix it remotely, I had to be IN THE HOUSE to reboot the touchscreen! It took hours on the phone with them to get it working right and had to be restarted AND reconfigured with the wifi settings. A week after that, something tripped one of the motion sensors and set off the alarm while we were away. Then, the alarm was disarmed, but nobody in my family disarmed it (we weren't home). The alarm disarmed itself and Vivint can't explain how that could happen. They said I must have done it by accident, but how can a security system be disarmed by accident? One week later, I again had electrical work done on the house and when the power came back on, the cameras again stopped working. I came to learn that if the system looses wifi connectivity, it will try ONE time to reconnect, and if it fails, it will never try again and will stay in a failed state until someone resets it. What kind of security system needs to be constantly rebooted from someone inside the house? What if I had gone on vacation and had a power interruption? After calling their tech support to try to prevent this from happening, they said there is nothing they can do about it except "submit feedback". I asked for a manager and the manager was extremely rude to me. At this point I decided to cancel since I was within the 30 day ROR. read more

I have had Vivint since June 2018. When the salesman came to our door we was told that our monthly price was 39.95 plus additional 14.08 for equipment. This January, 2022 I paid off the equipment. Have had problems with panel once before and they wanted to update the panel for additional 400.00, which they did come out and update the card for no additional cost. Always had problems with the phone app working. We decided to go with another company and when I called to cancel this was a pain to do. First I had to get back in touch with Capital One to get an conformation number because I was told they haven't received the paid off information from Capital One. So I called back with the conformation number and was told that I had to paid half of the remaining contact balance as part of the contact we signed. All of our papers was sign electronic and I never receive and emails with our contract. Today I try to signed into my account and was locked out, could not sign into it. I wanted to see what the cancellation charge was and had no luck. I even try to open my account by replying back to an email and again no can do. Do not go with this alarm system, I don't even know where to start. it is not secure and their customer service is horrible. Firstly, I got robbed while on vacation. The robbers disarmed the system just by crushing the box resulting in no police dispatch. Even worse when we called Vivint telling them that the box was not responding, they said its a small malfunction, let me reset it. Of course that did not work and when we got home everything was gone! Vivint gave us $2000 which is their policy, didn't cover much more than the deductible. Then when we sold the house, paid for the equipment, they could not transfer the service for two weeks. During this time an alarm went off at the new owners; and we got a call because they could not disarm the system. We had no idea who was in the house or whether to call the police. When we called Vivint about this they said they do not have technicians to transfer the policy and we can still arm/disarm (from our cell) the new owners house because it was our policy. Oh and btw we still have to pay for the monitoring because they cannot send the tech for two weeks. All they can say is sorry that is all we can do. Can you imagine having to worry about a stranger's house and a possible break in? what if my kid disarms or arms the system by accident while playing with my phone? NEVER Go for this system it is not safe and can be easily disarmed with a simple hammer. The customer service is horrible and helpless, and transferring is a nightmare. read more

Been a customer since 2014, agreed to a Vivent suggested upgrade in 2019 which how convenient they want to do that when the first 60 mos is up and then slyly start a new 60 month contract on monitoring too. I get there is a contract for equipment; but not another new contract for monitoring. We moved out of state and what an absolute hassle for us and the buyers of our house and equipment.....Vivent makes it crystal clear all they care about and it is not their customers. Vivint is fine, unless you ever want to cancel. I had a home system with Vivint for 10 years before switching over to AMP Smart. I canceled by calling and sending the cancellation email with requested documents. I figured things were all good, but a month later I was charged again, so I went through the process again calling customer service and resending documents. At this point I figured things would be sorted out by now and cleared out the no longer needed files. However, 3 months later they called again to charge me for 3 more months saying that they never received my cancellation. I once again sent the information after calling customer service. Next month, I will see if I am being charged once more. It is apparently impossible to cancel with this company, and it seems many other people have had issues with them losing documents. read more

I wish I had done research before committing to this company. They are all about getting new business, but if you have to have service afterwards, you are longer a priority. I have had the system 8 weeks and not including the installation, I have been scheduled for 3 service calls, not including the 4th one I am hoping they will show up for. My system has not worked correctly from the start and they are either no-shows and they do not bother to even call or one time I actually did get a repairman 4 hours after the end of the 4 hour window they gave me for service, but the system has continued to have issues. I am in the hook for over $3k in equipment for a system that has only proven to be an aggravation not an enhancement. read more

Vivint is the absolute worst. In 3 years, they have stood me up for 3 install appointments, taken $2,000 out of my account for no reason, and without my authorization. It took weeks to get my money back. Then I had a break in and the alarm was going off for 3 days straight with no phone call. When I called, they said it was a "momentary lapse of monitoring". Momentary? For three days?! I called to cancel my account since they OBVIOUSLY are not upholding their end of the contract. They tell me the only way out is to sell my contract to someone else or pay the rest of my contract out. I wouldn't wish this terrible customer service on my worst enemy. And this is their normal business practice. If you want your money stolen from you, be stood up, and not get a call the one time you actually have a break in: go for vivint. After 2 weeks, and multiple phone calls, and 3 technicians not showing up, I was able to reach a senior supervisor, and ultimately senior customer service rep, after threatening to contact Vivint Investor Relations. Getting through to a decision-maker took close to an hour on the phone. Ultimately, I was given a credit on my account, and access to the senior customer service rep's direct line if have any more problems. Most consumers will not want to spend this kind of time and aggravation on a resolution. read more

Yes, 5 years but, hopefully we will keep the good review. We just got our install yesterday after 6 hours by 2 Technicians. The security cameras are awesome and I can monitor them from my cell phone live. Vivint is new, aggressive and tough to deal with. The Customer Service Reps will provide detail over the phone to secure your deposit, which then secures a visit from the installer. Upon better understanding the technology behind the system (that we'd have to keep our phones next to us, nightly, in bed, turned on to detect any break-ins), we changed our mind. They had told me via the original call that this would not be an issue. The tech was very nice and left after about 10 minutes. Trying to get your deposit back? Good luck. The phone line puts you on hold for 30 to 40 minutes each time (the number that you need to call to get your money back, which is in fact, trained sales people that are trying to get your business 'back'.) Nightmare. Finally filed a dispute with AMEX over the charge. They are not customer service oriented once they have your money. read more

Now you expect me to payout on a contract for a home I no longer live in. I am contacting the BBB as well as my legal counsel. TL;DR - Use anybody else but Vivint for your home security needs. I just stopped by to agree with majority of the other reviews posted. The installation technician was fast, polite and knowledgeable. That's where the good part ends. Everything else with Vivint has been a nightmare up to this point. I came home one day to find my doorbell hanging by wires, but still functional. A plastic housing tab had broken off. I called customer support and explained the issue. They said they knew what the problem was and were going to send me a part to fix it my self. A week later I received a screw in the mail. I called back and explained again the problem and that a screw wouldn't fix it. They then sent a technician a week later to have a look at it. The technician clearly had no idea what he was doing. He blew several breakers in the process, and in the end, he had tacked an electrical wire across the entire length of my garage wall. I was irritated because he did it without telling me, but the camera seemed to be working, so I let it go. 5 minutes after he left, it stopped working again. So I called customer service again, several times actually, before they agreed to send out another technician. This technician was better than the first, and he informed me that my doorbell was no good and that he would install a brand new one. He got it up and running. Once it worked, he left and it continued working for an hour or so before it died. Incredibly, they wanted to charge me $60.00 for every technician they sent. After many calls, they waived the service charges. I've given up on having a functioning doorbell camera. It initially quit working in August of last year and it is now March. Nobody there seems to care about the problems I'm having with their products. Nor should they I guess. They make you sign a 5 year contract in the beginning, so they're getting paid. I guess I'm glad I was able to talk them down to 42 months instead of 60. Then this morning I woke up and I couldn't disarm the panel, so I begrudgingly called customer support. I was told that I needed to take apart the alarm panel, so I needed to get a screwdriver. The screwdrivers were in the garage, and I couldn't open the door, otherwise it would set off the alarm. So I had to crawl out a window, and go around the house to get into the garage. Once I had taken apart the panel, I had to unplug the backup battery, plug it back in and put the panel back together. Luckily that worked and I could leave my house. In the end, I wish I hadn't gone with Vivint, knowing what I know now. Any company that wants you to sign a 5 year contract for their services isn't a reputable company and/or doesn't believe in their goods/services. Lesson learned. read more

Buyer beware! What an absolute disaster. Truly. After countless hours and emails negotiating a deal specific to my home and needs, I decided to move forward and scheduled an install only be told none of what I had arranged was possible. In fact, the setup wouldn't be code compliant and could result in other problems. Mind you those "violations" were for hanging a camera higher than 8' off the ground (FALSE)and having wired smoke detectors (FALSE). It was clear the kid sent out here was clueless, so I canceled the whole thing. Now I canceled two other contractors scheduled for work at my house waiting for this work, so that lost me a week and half a Saturday. Then it gets better, I speak to Vivint again as they try and save the account, and I'm told that the installer was a contractor (told by sales they didn't use those) and after hearing my story profusely apologized and assured me all could be done just as they had orignally promised. They even gave me free equipment and a monthly discount to try again. Foolishly I believed them, so set up another Saturday morning appointment and postponed the same house projects waiting for the new crew to come install this thing. Obviously hoping I'd just gotten a bad installer and this could still get done. Then I get a call at 8pm the night before my 10am appointment telling me that after looking at the notes from the previous installer that they won't be able to come out after all. No kidding. What a cluster these people are. When I complained, they directed me to the BBB--class act. Buyer beware! read more

We have had vivint for 2 years, just about every 6 months something breaks...seemingly out of nowhere! This wouldn't be such a big issue if getting someone out to fix it wasn't nearly impossible!! Our thermostat (vivint installed) failed in the middle of summer and they couldn't come out to simply install another one for a week. That's what did it for us. I would terminate our contract but that is just about impossible as well. Don't believe everything you are told especially with Vivant. The sales rep was pushy. Some of the installation was misleading as he explained it. We had asked him to come back because we were interested but we were busy right then but he just kept right on talking and we couldn't get him out of our home. We went ahead and allowed the trial period. When the installer came the next day, it was a very young girl. Looked like a high schooler. If you have seen Undercover Boss, they only show company trucks and actually mention that the installers have their equipment on company trucks. This woman was in her personal car which was crammed full of equipment. It took her a long while to go through it and get everything out. The first thing I asked was if their doorbell was going to fit where ours is now. We have the Ring Elite. She took ours off and said it wasn't but that she would be here for 1.5 hours if I would run down to Lowe's to buy a plate. Excuse me?? I am the customer, the installer should have everything they need. She was not understanding where our router was. The camera is corded and runs along the garage ceiling. The 2nd monitor is only a keypad and no picture. Completely misrepresented and not ready to install in my home. I sent her packing and will never allow Vivint back into my home. Also, Mr. Todd definitely gave a stunning performance on Undercover Boss. To bring his religion into it and then have the poor showing we experienced is more than offensive. But I guess when you sell your company for 2 billion, you can do and say what you choose. If you are smart, ADT is still the best option. read more

We are totally disappointed in Vivint! Be aware of the person that comes by and knocks on your door and talks to you about starting service. Barbara is the girl that came by our house in May and said you will have no contract with Vivint and the cost was cheaper so we decided to move our Brinks service to Vivint. Big mistake! We are moving and wanted to cancel service and when we tried to pay we were told we would have to pay off our 5 year contract! We never signed a contract because everything was done on an I-pad the day she came by and clearly said there would be no contract. When you agree to sign the I-pad be sure to look at what you sign because she somehow changed the screen when we went to sign, therefore signing a 5 year contract unknown. Since there was no contract you don't receive paper work stating there is a contract you just receive the agreement to put the equipment in and how to pay for the equipment each month. I would recommend never using Vivint unless you contact them for the service and never trust the people they send out to prospect and get you to sign up at your house. TOTAL SCAM! read more

Took nearly two weeks to cancel our service. No acknowledgement of our initial request (combined phone call and emailed, signed letter as required). Just a charge for the next month showing up on our card and an account page showing the upcoming charge for the next month after that. Get hung up on twice by their phone tree trying to fix this. Get through on the next try after waiting 20 minutes in web chat for their "customer loyalty" team. Am informed that they have a 30-day notice policy for cancellation (which is hidden in a policy document, not stated on their cancellation web page), which is all well and good (well, not really), but still doesn't explain why my cancellation was completely ignored. They did waive that, but it still took over two hours of my time just to cancel our service because they failed to process it the first time. As far as the service, it was pretty horrible. Minimal sensors, and the one on the exterior door to OUR BEDROOM would trigger maybe a third of the time we opened the door (even after they fixed the screwed up installation that didn't have it registered as an exterior door). Totally cool that someone could jimmy a french door open and walk in on us sleeping with a better-than-even chance of the police not being called. On the plus side, the installer guy was really nice and helped me get our treadmill off of our moving truck. read more
