We just recently purchased a cute older home in North Dallas around the Marsh and Royal Lane area. We became members of the Next Door app and soon saw there were a number of daytime home burglaries as well as property theft and car vandalisms within a very close proximity to our home. Don't get me wrong, we love our neighborhood and our charming older house, but apparently we are just close enough to the seedy side of town to attract some real low life scumbags. After reading about the home break-ins, I decided it was time to get a security system. I researched for days - and no one came close to beating Vivint. Here's the thing though - you have to have 2 brain cells to realize that signing a 60 month contract is not a good thing (which is the majority of complaints you will read about). So we paid for our equipment up front. I paid the same price for the cameras, the Ring and the zwave devices as if I purchased them off Amazon to DIY. The only difference is we paid their install tech $230 to put everything in (he was here for 5 hours and it looks wonderful). Their controller is expensive, but it's like having a high tech touch screen computer on your wall (company should sell them for less though - that is my only complaint) Here are the pros: It integrates with devices I already owned; Amazon Alexa, Nest thermostat and Ping camera. The mobile app is top notch - when someone rings my doorbell it notifies me immediately. I can go right to the live camera or view the recorded video to see who is creeping at my door. I love it. It's super easy to use. What I love the most is that you can arm and disarm from your cell phone; there's no hitting a button on a console and making a wild dash out the door to beat the alarm. We can add on more devices like cameras as we go, if we so desire. We can move devices like the motion sensor, glass break sensor or redirect cameras to better suit our needs. The installation was super professional - he was kind, courteous and on time. All of the cables were ran through the ceiling and walls. Our installer even came out on a Sunday so we could both be here to ask him questions, which we asked TONS before moving forward. Cons: Controller itself is too expensive. The equipment is not free, but neither are Ring camera doorbells, Nest thermostats, nightvision HD cameras and zwave devices if purchased separately. Know beforehand what you are getting into, and take my advice, pay for it all up front if you can. I don't care how awesome a company is, they will *never* talk me into signing a 5 year contract. I can see why they do it though, to make it more affordable to those who don't have the initial investment, however 5 years is entirely too long!! Vivint is in my opinion, a top notch security and smart home solution, even though it does cost money initially and is $50 a month monitoring fee. I love how smart my home is now - you won't get that with ADT. I love their lifetime warranty on the equipment, and if you look at it this way, paying for the equipment up front still wasn't as expensive as one of our apple macbooks if stolen. We hope the thieves will keep moving when they see our bright orange Vivint sign!! read more

This is the biggest rip off in the security business today. They are not a security company, they are a marketing firm selling security systems at a very inflated price. Heck, I'll give you a free system if you want to pay me $70 a month for 3 years. They used to be Apex Alarm but had so many complaints they had to change their name. read more

Well I have to start by admitting that I cancelled the system within my 3 day window, but overall I was extremely impressed. I didn't like how the sales guy pushed "Today is the last day of the sale", which is ultimately why I ended up canceling. I felt like it was deceptive and didn't give me time to process what I was signing up for. It was just a lot of money to commit to and a long contract. The other reason we cancelled is because they guy who installed everything told us we were set with the full package, though we found out the next day that we didn't have a sensor on our back door. This was also a little deceptive because the guy who installed said he checked everything and it was all secure. When I called to talk to a representative, they were really nice. I got put on hold for periods of time, but they helped me cancel without any issues for the most part. Honestly, the managers are SO much more knowledgeable and helpful than the people who answer the help line number. If you can get through to a manager, you're life will be so much easier. They set a time to come take the system out and then, the best part, they paid to get my walls repaired. This was my biggest concern, but a manager named Joel took care of everything. My walls look like they did before all this mess, so I'm happy. Thanks for making it right Vivint! PS: If you do get this home security system, the app is awesome. This service and product sucks. If I could give zero stars I would. The app is crazy slow to load. By the time you detect motion and the video loads the person or car is no longer there. It's expensive. Our installation was crappy done by high schoolers who had no clue what they were doing. The alarm goes off and will not stop when we enter the code to disarm. Save your money and time and go with Ring or ADT. Vivint also supports the Republicans. read more

Don't use them. Just don't. Their custormer service is among the worst I have seen. Used them for a number of years (my mistake). Try cancelling your account (the equipment was paid off years ago) and they will make you go through multiple 20 minute wait periods as they "transfer" you. read more

This company is a fraud, and I will be suing them in small claim's court in the coming weeks. Bottom line, a guy comes by your house, and tells you about all the amazing things they have to offer, gives you a price, and lo and behold, after they put everything in, that he told me I was getting, they bumped the price to $75 a month. I was originally told it would be $49, but you pay $8 for energy savings and $11 for a video camera. It's bait and switch, they have now turned off my camera. Beware... Company is not flexible with cancelation situations. If for any reason you have to cancel for reasons such as move, death etc... - you must pay for the entirety of the contract (typcially 42 months). I was happy with the service until I had the opportunity to speak with managment regarding cancellation. The only way you can cancel is by 1) getting someone to buy into your contract or 2) continue to pay for the duration of your contract. I have never had an issue like this with any other company. I waited for more than two days to get someone to come out and look at my system to repair a critical issue after first being told I could "fix it myself" by their customer service. They don't find faulty equipment to be enough of a priority and would rather court new business than service existing customers. I was told the delay in service was because they were so busy in DFW with new clients. (Don't let that be you. ) Then, they wanted to charge a $49 trip fee to send out someone to service their own shoddy equipment that failed. I'd look elsewhere for a security company. read more

I hope everyone reads the other reviews here before they get pulled into the Viviant trap! I wish I had! Their products are cheap, look like toys actually, and break down right away. Luckily my friend negotiated me a 30 day cancellation policy! They insisted on installing the same evening and was at my house well after 12pm! No matter how much I asked them to come back because I am sick and needed to go to bed they just kept at it and actually called in helpers. I had 3 men in my house and there was no way for me to watch them all. Within 2 days one camera stopped working. I called Vivint and they said it would be 3 weeks before anyone could come out. A day later the thermostat they installed would not work. I decided to cancel. I was given a hard time because they did not realize I had a 30 day cancellation clause. Funny thing is that they got a technician out in 3 days to remove the system. Over 2 weeks earlier than he could come and fix the camera. After they left I had holes in my walls and the system I had before had been disabled by cutting the cables. I called for them to fix those and they said it was against the law for them to touch the other system. Not against the law to disable it but against the law to fix it? Words can not express how frustrating it is to deal with this company. They use false advertising and do not live up to anything they say they will do. They sold me one system initially and then everything changed with the installer. Thank God I cancelled my account within the allocated window but they did not note it accordingly in their system. REALLY unhappy with this situation. We have had Vivint for about a month now and the system has continually been broken. I foolishly didn't check Yelp before deciding to use Vivint and will be paying the price. Top of the line prices, too! I called today to say I'm tired of the constant problems and constant calls and want to cancel. Sure! You can transfer it to a friend or family member - Ummm... I wouldn't wish this on anyone else! Hilarious reviews on this site. I have had Vivint for awhile and love them. You do get what you pay for in terms of service and equipment. We had the entire house protected; all windows, doors, glass breaks, motion, etc. It's expensive but the Sky system is superb. When the alarm is triggered they call via the panel within seconds checking on us. The mobile app works great. So does the control panel and thermostats. We have had a few issues with the camera but their website shows how to fix it. It's three steps. This is a very good company with a very good product and service. Don't let the bad reviews fool you. The silent majority buys from this company relentlessly and appreciates them. read more

We made an appointment to have them moved to our new house (since we're locked into a 3 year contract) and they moved our appointment up a couple days without even telling us! So we're sitting there waiting for them to arrive at our original 4 hour appointment window and at the final hour we call them, and after almost 45 mins on the phone they finally get someone (after multiple "managers") that could speak enough English to tell us they moved our appointment and left us a message with that containing that info (BS!). Can't wait until this contract is up and we wash our hands of this pathetic excuse for a company. read more

we've had Vivint for about 3 years. Ok at first but the panel stopped communicating with the wireless network after about a year. NEVER got it working again. At one point spent an hour with a rep who couldn't get the issue resolved - they sent me a router to use to boost the signal to the panel - the panel never saw ANY wireless networks - my phone and other devices in the house routinely find 4-6 networks. Fast forward a year - I try again with chat support. Three reps, cycling through the same steps for over an hour. I asked 3 times for a Support Supervisor to call - never complied. I called to cancel the service - they said they would send a tech to resolve at no charge. Of course if I wanted to cancel I would have to pay for the remaining 9 months on the contract. I am dropping them in 8 months, regardless of what the tech can do. read more

Warning... We had a system installed less than 30 days ago. Please make sure you research the products you are getting and make sure you actually need each piece of equipment. The salesman that came to our door told us he could select two more houses for this great deal Vivint was offering. He was extremely friendly but very distracting, which didn't allow me to ask the questions I should have been asking. He showed me photos of his family and asked me about my children. Of course this is a good thing being friendly, however he was doing a fine job at getting me not to dive deeper into what I was getting myself into, which is a five year contract. Please make sure you ask for a breakdown of all of the equipment you are getting with your contract. We were led to believe that we had to select so many products in order to get this great deal! We ended up with things we didn't even want nor are we using. They gave us a quote of around $120 a month. What they didn't tell us or show us was a breakdown of what we were getting. The equipment came to a total of $4000! The other thing the salesman did not disclose was that he was running a credit check on me. When I gave the salesman my personal details I thought it was for a contract not a credit check. The equipment is interest free, however it's going on a credit card you're applying for without even knowing. I was very excited to get an alarm and feel safe in my home and I do like the system, however I feel duped into what we purchased. The cancellation policy is only 3 days. One last thing... the only way to get out of the contract early is to pay off the equipment (which is made by Vivint, so they are still making money off of the deal) and to pay 50% of the monitoring service, so what's the point right... you're stuck with it! Shame on me for not asking more questions and being distracted by a savvy salesman. I just wanted to write this review, so others know and are aware of what they are getting into. read more

I have used Vivant previously with no issues. So when I moved it seemed like a no brained to me ... HA. I'm giving the 2 stars since I know what this system CAN do - I just hope they make it right! I let the technician know I had just purchased the house and the previous owner had an outdated ADT system. When he asked me where I wanted my new detectors and system - I told him in place of the old ones. Seem simple enough? Apparently not. How stupid does this look? Instead they just did them all side by side? The tech left without saying anything to me so I didn't see this or the mess he left behind (wood shavings piled up in front of the doors at all entry points) I didn't get my decals,signs and he didn't clear any error codes. I called customer service - it will be over a week until another tech can come out to fix this .... hopefully I'll be able to update my review at that time.. UPDATE - I called Vivant to send out a different tech. Guess who showed up? Same tech. I had to "argue" with him to correct his mistakes. He left before I realized he did not leave to signs or decals. Argh. Back to one star. read more

They claim they cannot get their system for 2 weeks, but still when I decided to try it, a tech was at my house in an hour. I would give this company zero stars if I could and post a review. We went with this company because a friend referred us and boy was that a BIG mistake. To start the guy who installed this system it took him 8 hours and in the middle of our install he left to go do another call. Second he did not have one of the parts we needed and said he would be back the next day and NEVER showed. Third the system has NEVER worked. We called on several occasions and spoke with customer service who said they would send out a technician who NEVER showed, this happened twice. Finally we told them we did not want their service nor their camera system. They call us constantly for payment because they want us to buy out our contract, but we refuse to pay for something that has not worked from the very beginning. My house was broken into a few years back and I called several local companies to see if I can get a security system installed right away. Of course when I called, it was after 5pm and as my luck would have it, I was getting voice mails and their hours of operation. I came across Vivint and called them. I was able to speak with a representative and had a system installed in less than 24 hours. I needed peace of mind immediately, and they were able to provide that for me. I have dogs and they were able to cater to my situation. They were thorough in answering my questions for what I was paying for. They have an app available for apple and android systems and its great to have. My experience with customer service has been excellent so far. I have had them monitoring my home for nearly 5 years and would recommend them. Yes, monthly cost was higher than the local companies I have looked into, but for me, it was worth it when I needed a security ASAP. read more

I had used the service for several years and then had an alarm panel malfunction. The tech was courteous and let me know that there was nothing wrong with the panel and that he could not recreate the error. I called the main office back and let them know I had more concerns than before because now they could diagnose a problem but there was obviously an issue. They offered to replace the panel. Set up another appointment and called mid-morning and they were happy to be able to narrow down their arrival to 2 hours - they showed up at exactly 120 minutes. Unfortunately the person waiting at home was taking care of other responsibilities and was occupied at 115 minutes assuming they were not going to make their appointment. I called the service desk and explained what happened and they offered again to let me or a family member to take a day off to wait for them. I asked about cancelling the contract and that is when the real fun begun. Over the course of 6 days and multiple calls no one could tell me what the payoff amount was for the remaining contract. Words that resonant with them - "I am recording this call and by Texas law am required to let you know that. Long story shorter I am willing to pay thousands out of pocket for peace of mind to cancel and rid myself of one of the worst customer service experiences I have encountered. Our back door was left unlocked for unknown period of time due to battery outage. But system/app never told us battery was out, like it should have. We found out when someone accidentally opened the door from the alley. Now we have replaced battery and back door will not communicate with system. Tried to get tech out and had to wait weeks for appointment. Since I was going to be out of town I hired someone to be at the location. Then 1/2 hour after start of appointment time window I got a call that tech was not going to show up and could I reschedule for the afternoon. So scheduler tried to reschedule us for a week later in the late afternoon/evening.We need morning appointments so now I have to wait another week. I wanted to speak to an agent who could actually do something. i asked for a a call back and was informed that Customer Care cannot call me, I have to call them Also, there is not a direct number to call, I have to call the basic number and be transferred. Also, and this is a big one, sometimes the app cannot connect! I cannot get this thing out of my place fast enough. Here is what the chat agent said to me: I'm sorry for your difficulties with the service so far. I definitely understand how you are feeling. I wish that there was more that I could do, but I wouldn't be able to get a sooner appointment then scheduling pulled up. If I could get you a better appointment, I would. read more

Go with any other home security system! Like others, I should have read the reviews before signing up. Our sales guy was so attentive and polite, the install went super fast. Fast forward over five months, we've had numerous service level issues; camera's 'offline', etc., and then learning that less than half of our sensors were never connected to their system. After several calls to their customer service we were able to get only 1 month of service refunded, after emailing, we were able to get 1 more month of service refunded (still pending). We tried to cancel due to all of the issues and they want to send another service tech out, he came out & lowered our video resolution to fix the cameras (now we have poor video quality) and 30 minutes after he left another camera is 'offline' again! So now we have to wait for another service tech to come back out to 'fix' things and give his opinion if we can cancel services without penalty (you know for Vivint's service not working properly). Otherwise, if we cancel we have to find someone else to buy out our contract (I would never do that to anyone knowing what I know now!) or we can pay the rest of our overly priced contract all at once. The employees all repeat themselves on the phone & you know they all have the same auto-responses they're told to use: -I'm just the techinal department, you'll have to call back and speak with someone in the customer loyalty department -Your contract states you are responsible for paying... Paul, the salesman, stopped by our house approximately 2 weeks ago and started telling me and my wife about Vivint Smart Home. I was skeptical at first, but then he showed us how it works at his home on his phone app. We decided to give it a try, and we have been happy with it. The installer showed up the next day and installed the units. He was very professional and was conscientious of his work area and kept it cleaned up. I would recommend the Vivint Smart Home system to anyone who is in the market for a security system. read more

(Watching my children's cartoons.) The next day, the salesman showed up and smuggled my contract into his organizer, with his personal cell phone number on it and made promises of paying my next months bill with bonuses he received. I've had Vivint since March or April of 2013. During that time, I have had numerous problems with the equipment--as in, it doesn't work. There's always a friendly person available when you call customer service, to help you "fix it yourself" which never seems to work. Out of frustration, I just have given up. The security system has glitches, and just stops; the remote deadbolt doesn't work; and the camera isn't working either. Today, I waited from 8-11 for a tech to show up, and he never did. I called and they promised someone would be there by 1, and at 1:10 I called, stayed on hold, was transferred and then told, my "new appointment" was at 1-3, and was asked "if I would be missing my appointment"!!!! These people are beyond horrible, and are polite, while they screw you over. They promise everything and deliver NOTHING. I have been with Vivint for 3 years now and I am so upset I am going to cancel my contract rather than deal with the mess any longer. I have had trouble with my system on and off for about a year now, battery keeps setting off the panel and even keeps you up all night, window sensors keep setting alarm and they blame it on wind, camera's don't work correctly, battery keeps getting hot, and I could go on but you get the idea. Every time you call you are on the phone forever, then when you finally get someone to help you they want you to do alot of trouble shooting over the phone and try to fix it yourself. Once you can't fix it they will set you an appointment for a technician to come to your house which usually is never very soon, you have to wait a while. Almost every time they call and tell you they are running late, and will even call again tell you they are running later to try and get you to reschedule for another day. I am now on the 3rd appointment and still don't have a working system or a technician at my house. I have never had this many problems with a security company and i have used several. I have called and called trying to get help but this people on the phone do not care or want to care. You ask to speak to a supervisor and not one of them will get on the phone with you. The person on the phone keep giving you the runaround and end up transferring you to an account manager which says they are not a supervisor. Today is 3/14/2016! I had an appointment to fix the camera and doorbell (this would have been the third time a tech had to come out to fix the camera and the door bell). The tech didn't show again. One other time the techs car broke down and today they just didn't show. We've only had the service since 1/20/17. Every time I try to schedule an appointment it's always two - three weeks before they can get me in. I wish I would have read these reviews before signing up! Now I'm locked in for 3 years! They won't let me out of the contract even though the equipment is not working and hasn't worked. I see the nice reviews here and there and I was once one of those people until I encountered customer service today. Other than the fact that my account manager was an ***hole, he was also telling me that my service was terminated on Sept 4th because the panel stopped working. BUT he would put me in for a new panel and 60 month agreement right away. Of course I would have to purchase the panel because the other one failed and they do not make it anymore. WHAAAAAT?? hahaha Maybe I was born 2 weeks ago but it wasnt yesterday. Does vivint not monitor the panels?? if it stoppped working would that not alarm the company and tell them that service has stopped at the given address??? My house has not been monitored this whole time for fire protection because of the non working panel?? I asked for a technician instead to come take a look at it and it will be November 9th before I can get help. So another month without service. These guys were as great as Mark R's review at one time. But when you cant help anyone for another month, and continue to charge for the service, and want to charge for a new panel because the old one isnt made anymore, then that is where I draw the line on giving 5 stars. Disgusted with this company! I paid $70/month for a security system that was perfectly fine. Had been told by the door-to-door salesman that it was month to month, cancel anytime, if you ever move there is no installation charge and if new house doesn't have the wiring, that's fine, they will add it at no charge. Well when I did move 11 months later I was surprised to find they were going to charge me $99 installation since I hadn't had it for a year as well as charge me for additional equipment. I told the installation guy not to worry about it that I would just cancel instead as I really don't like being lied to even though I really had no other issues until this time. Meanwhile, I found another security system that had all the same services but for half the price so I switched to them. To my surprise, the $71.26 continued to automatically deduct from my account. I called as I assumed this was obviously a mistake. No, they said it would continue to charge as I was under contract even though they were providing no service to me. The salesman had lied to me. I listened to what he told us instead of reading the fine print. After several hours on several different occasions of talking to them on the phone about this, they really had no solution for me other telling me to have someone I know take over my plan. LOL, why would I convince someone I know to use something I hate?? OR I could pay upfront to buy out the contract and they would take a couple months off? um, no. There is no humanity there. I have a very different financial situation due to a death in my family and the medical bills associated with that and they do not care. That was the reason for my move to begin with. If you do choose to go for the overpriced company, make sure you don't listen to the lies they tell, read that contract word for word. read more

DO NOT RECOMMEND! They make you agree to a 3 year contract and they tell you that you can move the alarm system anywhere. However when you move it there are installation charges all over again or if you want someone to take it over again additional fees. To top it off they make YOU take off the alarm system which is a massive hole it leaves in your wall and they don't assist in any way. There are PLENTY of other alarm companies that are better that won't leave you high and dry and make you agree to such a long contract. read more
