My wife and I had discussed getting solar at some point in the future (5 year plan kinda thing). We didn't think we were ready to buy a solar system. Taylor showed us his proposal for our home, and we were quite surprised at how affordable a system was! The monthly payments for 10 years was about 1/2 the cost of our summer monthly electric bill (there is a 20 year payment option too, but it carries a higher interest rate. For $40 more a month, we chose the 10 year option). From signing the contract/loan, to install, to inspection, to switching the system on, the process was smooth. The whole process took about 8 weeks, which is quicker than average (getting SoCal Edison to sign off is one of the slowest parts, but permitting can be slow too, depending on your municipality). I had noticed a blemish on one of my eves caused by the install, and their service team quickly scheduled a trip to come out and fix it. Thanks to Taylor and the rest of the Vivint staff, we are very satisfied with how everything went and are looking forward to generating lots of our own power! read more

Do not do not do not do not do not hire this company for solar panels. Back in 2017 this company installed my solar panels incorrectly so the city never approved it. The panels were damaging my roof so I insisted that they remove the panels from my house. And I insisted my contract become void which they did. That was hell to deal with on its own. The company came to remove my panels, but they also had to replace my roof because the panels destroyed my roof. Fast forward three years 2020. Today I am trying to refinance my home to get a lower interest rate and I find out I have a lien against my house because of those solar panels. There's no way of contacting anybody. I understand this is a person's job, they do door to door for a living and spend time talking to people who in many cases say no to their offer. That is the business you are in. I have done door to door sales and it is very tough job. What has me give a poor rating is two things. 1: the man who came into my home. One question I asked was, "If I were to cancel my order what would be the fee's incurred?" That question did not sit well with C and he kept repeating, but why would you want to pay more. It shouldn't matter to him or affect him personally what I want to do in the future of my OWN home. I never received an answer to that question, he pretty much avoided it. The next day he did apologize as he did not "realize" that was important to me, he did tell me he did not know the answer to that question. My husband has done research and does not like the reviews all over the US for this company. Some cities are worse than others regarding a disconnect between the billing and installation team. I advise C my husband and I would not like to move forward. I received an email from C which I felt was very poorly written by him as though he took my denial personal. C is a nice person, very personable. He believes in the product he sales and promotes which is great, however not everyone is going to like what you offer, but that is regarding the product and not the person (in most cases). read more

You can never get customer support long wait times and if you do it is over sea's when you request to speak with someone in the US it doesn't happen though Vivint is based out of Utah. Have complaints about their business practices, especially when it deals with my safety. They are an alarm service you cannot reach when the equipment is not working very reassuring to me. You buy an alarm to know your house and family are safe, well think again. Not with the Vivant alarm system or its support team working . We have had a terrible experience and are extremely frustrated with the customer service that we have received. We got our panels installed in March, but they still have not been turned on (it's now August!!). We have been lied to multiple times by our Vivint Solar contact and have also been ignored multiple times. Our neighbor went with a different solar company and theirs have been turned on for months now despite them getting their panels installed after us! We are from city NW, California. We wanted to know about Vivint solar system. One man named D came to consult us. It seemed great and we were excited. Yet we still needed to also consult with our family and relatives. All of them stopped us. So we did not sign the contract at all. Then we had an electrician come and do the electrical panel for us. After it was done, he said he could not get the city permit because Vivint already got it. He asked me to call Vivint to withdraw it. We emailed them to withdraw their permit. They just let the electrician to get another permit but theirs is still there. We have contacted them to withdraw the permit but Vivint has not replied We didn't sign any contract with them. All of our relatives and neighbors said no to any solar programs, except you buy the system. They explained a lot to us. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. I have Vivint Smart Home (an entirely different story) so a little over a year ago Vivint Solar came knocking on my door offering me FREE solar panels and installation. The only thing I would have to pay is my bill. They came out to install immediately. About 9 months and a couple of failed city inspections later the panels were up and running. I get my first bill it's about $50. A little higher than my SCE bill but ok. The next bill is higher. The last bill is $200!!!! I've never even had a $100 electric bill. I call for an explanation and get some junk about it being high because it's summer and I'll see a lower bill on winter. I'm in no way satisfied with this answer. I write a letter explaining my frustration. Although someone called me back I still don't have a resolution. I'm forwarding my letter to the president of the company. BEWARE: As a customer who started this process with Vivint Solar end of May 2019... it is now the end of December 2019, and we still don't have our panels up and running, and can't give us a good explanation as to why. There have been numerous delays and not much communication/follow-up. Not to mention we lost our account manager somewhere through this process, and we were not re-assigned to another one. We had to keep calling Vivint customer service to find out what was going on. Customer service is very lackluster and not super helpful. We asked for an update, and we were sent someone else's PPA agreement (!?!) Not sure what was going on there, and nor did they apologize for the mix-up. You would think after such a delay in the process, they would at least assign us a new account manager to see us through the process to the very end, considering it's been 6 months and counting. Our panels were installed in November, and an electrical panel upgrade in early December. We're still waiting to actually utilize these solar panels. As of now, they just serve as decorations on our rooftop. Vivint keeps telling us that the system needs to be inspected, and permits to the city need to be processed, etc, but it would be nice to have some dates to look forward to. We wanted to install solar panels this year to take advantage of the 30% tax credit (because we bought our panels, and not leasing them) before it drops down to 26% in 2020. We asked Vivint if they can clarify if we're still eligible for the 30% tax credit (since the panels are already installed) and of course we can't get an answer from them. We're probably in danger of losing out on that as well, since the system isn't even functional yet. But seriously... 6+ months and counting for a solar installation is completely unacceptable. Do yourself a favor and don't go with this solar company. Vivint - if you read this review, know that we're an actual customer of yours and will happily give you our account number in case you think this is some sort of fake review, because it is not. read more

Have had panels on our roof for 6 months now and still not connected! Had to pay for summer weather electricity when we were well ahead of it and shouldn't have had too. After discovering they had failed to submit our paperwork (just didn't think to check back with us?), they have missed meeting the city inspector twice now. I had an absolutely amazing experience with Vivint. Ironically enough I was meeting with Solar City earlier in the day when John came and talked to me about the opportunity. The pricing is hard to beat from a reputable company - and I pulled the trigger. The guys came out and were some of the hardest working, efficient, and considerate people I've met. They got my large installation done in 1 day. My only complaint in the entire process is that it takes about 2 months to get it setup. That is due to SCE and permit slowdowns (not Vivint's fault). I've had a representative come to my home three to four times saying " Your home has been pick to see if we can install sunpanels to your home for free, you will not have to pay a thing out of your pocket." I live in the area of Downey. so I asked do we need a permit to have them installed? He replied by saying yes, but we pay for it. I asked will we have two bills, one from EDISON and another one for the sunpanels? He replied by saying yes. so I said never mind then. He raised his voice at my father and I by saying " I will not be back here, I'm the manager and nobody will come to your home to give you free sunpanels." It appears that I am in the same boat as Sheri B with her post 12/29/2019. I started this process back in July 2019 where my Rep Jeremy S was still communicating with me. The communication ended in October of 2019-I suspect that is when he received his commission check. I am disgusted with this company; from the poor communication and failed return calls to the insane delay to get this project completed. Never in my career have i dealt with such incompetent support personnel.I had ONE person who i spoke with that actually did want to help me get answers as I was so frustrated i was actually shaking with anger. I requested her to communicate with my PM "Karrie" an get daily updates and report back to me on a daily basis-and was assured she would communicate my request - however "Karrie" failed to do so. The current phase of this project is that the panels are installed, the inverter system is installed and the placement of the panel upgrade from SCE has been approved. Still, permitting has not been approved/completed so the contractor has not upgraded my service panel and and cutover to the solar panels. I read the negative reviews in horror to see that such an incompetent company still is in business. I work as a project manager in the cellular industry, if and if my projects were handled as mine (and others) have been-I would have been terminated. My tax credit has been likely cashed already by Vivint Solar-and I still have a non functioning product. My next write up is to the BBB and my attorney. Enough is Enough; DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY. I do know a person who lives in Chino Hills CA who had Vivint Solar do their project-and apparently it went ok (that was 10 years back) so the only thing i can assume is the current management of the Santa Fe Springs office have no clue how to effectively run a successful business as customer service has to be a number one priority to attract customers and resolve conflicts/concerns. DO NOT USE VIVINT! They are liers and cheats and will try to screw you! My parents had their system installed with some minor problems. They had their electrical panel upgraded at no cost by vivint. This was the selling point for me. That's at least a $3,000 value right there. I honestly don't care about having solar. After one of their sales reps, John, came to the house we sat down with him and discussed the system. He didn't seem to know much about it, just had a lot of scripted answers that didn't make sense. He agreed to look into us getting our panel upgraded. Several weeks later and John called to tell me we would not be getting a new panel and I told him thays the only reason I want their system. No panel, no solar. Period. Weeks later John tells me we could get the panel. Mind you my panel was from 1954 while my parents had a fairly modern panel from the late 70s. Several more weeks go by and I stay home to meet the electrician at the house one morning. The electrician tells me he's not supposed to install a new panel, just a sub panel to connect the solar system! So here we go, they lied about the panel. After immediately placing several calls to John, he wakes up and answers his phone and claims to not know what's going on while I'm telling him how shady he and his company are. Several more weeks go by and John tells me we would be getting a panel. Finally the panel is i stalled and the later the solar installed. I will say everyone involved with the installation was very professional and polite. So everything is installed and we're ready to get this thing fired up.... Ha hahahahaha NOPE! it was SIX MONTHS before we were told we could turn the thing on!!! SIX MONTHS! So much for saving money on electricity during the summer months. Six months of being told this delay was an internal issue that seemingly no one in the company could resolve. Absolutely ridiculous. After reading reviews on yelp I doubt this company will be in business for the 20 years we are stuck with this system. Oh and yeah, 20 years. 20 years and they won't upgrade anything I that time as technology improves. You're just stuck with it. My wife and I had to take over a Vivint solar lease when we purchased our home. There were broken panels that Vivint will not replace. Their customer service is absolutely tragic. Several times when I had to call regarding an issue, they would place me on hold, and I would be transferred to a new representative and would have to start over again. This happened 5 times in one call. Vivint has sent people to my house to inspect panels, but never gave us notification, so imagine our surprise when we see people on our security cameras climbing on our roof and we have no idea who they are. I was hoping once that Sunrun purchased Vivint that they would become better, but instead Vivint made Sunrun worse. If you are considering using Vivint or Sunrun, don't do it. I've had panels removed from my house for some construction that was being done to my house which I paid for them to remove and reinstall. It's been four months now and I still haven't been able two guys installers have come out and said they couldn't do it. Mind you nothings about my house has changed but they keep giving me the run around. Now in Edison eyes I'm not producing enough power for my house. So now every bill I've been getting from Edison is ridiculous that's not including my monthly bill from vivint. I keep losing money everyday that those panels aren't up and they could give two sh**s. Description of Complaint: This company is a sham. VIvint's rep said that once I had solar panels installed, that my bill from my local power provider would be around $20.00 per month for most months. I've had the panels in now for over three years and that has NEVER been the case. When I complained at the end of 2019 and the beginning of 2020, I was told that I would receive a credit on my Vivint Solar bill. I was told this on SEVERAL occasions and I even had one of their reps tell me in person, that per my contract, I was due credits as my system was not providing the output that was expected. I called repeatedly and was told that I would be receiving the credit towards my bill and I never received any credit. Then, at the end of 2020 and the beginning of 2021, I complained again that my LADWP bill was extremely high. We were actually out of town for a over a week during one of the billing periods. Once again I was told and emailed that I would receive a credit in the upcoming months. When I called again to ask what happened to the credits from 2020, they sent me an email saying that whichever representative told me that I was entitled to a credit, for 2019 and 2020/21 was mistaken. After over 15 months of the same complaint, NOW they say THEIR representatives were mistaken in saying I'm going to receive a credit. I even have an email from them saying that I would be receiving a credit. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY. Look at all of these similar reviews on Yelp. I have spoken with the California State Attorney general's office about this company and their false claims. Now, I'm in the process of reaching out to other Vivint customers so that this company will be either be forced to go out of business or fix this issue with ALL of their customers or at least those that have the same issues that I'm having. I received notification from Vivint that my system may have issues that were affecting my systems production, I attempted to schedule a tech site visit to determine the issue. That scheduling went rather smoothly and I believe that the tech was able to be scheduled within two weeks of that initial notification from Vivint. That's OK, I get it, techs are not readily available, and I assumed that it was just a small issue, not a complete failure of the system to harness any energy! Upon his inspection, we were informed that there was indeed a part of the system that was not functioning correctly and needed to be replaced. OK. Great! No mention was made of the fact that the system wasn't functioning at all!!!! We heard nothing for weeks, and then we were contacted that the repairs were still pending and when could we schedule? Well that scheduling took quite a while longer. By the time that the repair (actually it looks like a complete replacement of the module on the back of my house) had been performed, my home had lost out on over two-and-a-half months of solar production! In summary, what I'm to understand from your response to my request for reimbursement, is that Vivint will honor the contract and perform the repairs, AT THEIR CONVENIENCE, thus costing me hundreds of dollars in SCE power bills?!?!?! I would think that a greater sense of urgency for this type of situation would be shown by your company, as Vivint has made tens of thousands of dollars from my purchase of this system! Nice to know that Vivint doesn't have the integrity to stand by the quote from their website to "Power your home with confidence". All I can confidently do is expect them to respond to an issue with my system at their own convenience without a single shred of urgency while I lose out on hundreds of dollars to the local power company. BAD SOLAR -NOTHING SUNNY WITH VIVINT SOLAR! We've had solar for a year. Our monthly savings are only $50-70.00. In August we receive a call telling us that there seems to be an issue with our system. A technician was scheduled to come out. Merlin showed up on time, stayed for about 90 minutes to 2 hours. I was told he finally got the system to "communicate". Our bills seem to be really low like $100.00 lower. December comes & so does our SEC bill along with a $900.00 charge! December 5 I called customer service and spoke to Josh. He explained that it was called a "true up bill"and we should not have received one that high from SCE. He recommended calling SCE in the morning - my husband did. SCE said nope that's our bill, solar companies have a habit of forgetting to tell new customers about page four of their bill. SCE did say that it was high for us though. That night (12/6) I called back this time speaking to Tiffany - she noticed their seemed something wrong with the system and got us over to Jordon. He schedule a technician to come out on Monday to look at the system. Peter arrived looks at the system & notices that it's been turned off. Because Merlin didn't turn it on! He turns it back on, tells my husband that we should be expecting compensation c and to check in with the office in a few days. December 15 calledVivint and got Jordon again, he let us know that we would not be getting compensated bc they figured out our averages and used more then they billed. Mind you the 3.5 months the solar was turned off we still received bills ( remember loud bills went down $100) We contested & were told he would call us back. December 27 still had not heard back. I called & spoke to Fofita he said he would have someone call me and was very sorry no one had gotten back to us, but the person I need to talk to was in a mtg with Jordon. I also called SCE and spoke with them again to let them know that the solar company was not responding & I would mail my $900.00 that day ( Merry Christmas). January 3,2017 spoke with Ashton he told me the person to talk with was Gerson. Who surprise wasn't in. January 5,2017 After 20 minutes on hold I finally got a hold of Gerson -who told me our compensation claim was denied. Well I took the opportunity to point out to him that it was his employees: Josh,Tiffany,Jordon & Peter who all told us that there was something with wrong with oursystem: "'we should be compensated,' 'with the amount of energy you're producing you shouldn't be get that size of a true up bill,' 'and yoursystem was turned off !!!!!!'" I then proceed to tell him that my highest months from SCE are the months that his employee had my system turned off & those are the months we are looking to be compensated for! He rattles off "well your highest months should be the summer months" I said exactly & there not! Its September,October,November & December. I was also, told be Gerson that they've been trying to get a hold of Peter. To confirm our "story" of the system being turned off. Apparently you can work for Vivint Solar and not return calls,emails or texts....WOW! Also, I told him know that technically this solar is not saving us any money now that we know we get a monthly bill from SCE- if they don't compensate for their mistake then to get their panels off our roof bc they are breaking their contract- he told me to read my contract better! I feel like he threatened me. Kept asking for his boss he said right now I am it . I can not believe he is the "guy" of Vivint solar - or maybe that's why it is the way it is! Highly doubt that they will do the right thing especially after reading all the bad reviews wish we would've gone with the other solar company We get to wait another week till next Friday. All and all I've had to wait over a year to get the solar panels going. First it was the pandemic and lack of workers, now somebody at the city lost/withdrew my original permit so I can't get the final inspections done. The program is awesome and yes, you get solar panels installed at your house for free (if you qualified) but the wait for them to get activated is flat out absolutely ridiculous. Also, there is a lot of work that needs to be done in your house, especially if you are getting the batteries (I'm talking about your garage and side of the house where the meters will go). You need to consider all of this because their job is to "sale" you the panels (you rent those from them so Vivint becomes you electricity company) and then you are stuck waiting for the job to get done. Also, be aware that the first set of panels may not cover all of your energy usage so you will still be getting a bill from Edison. All and all it's a good value because you don't pay for the panels at all and if you get the right amount of them you maybe able to get completely off the grid. But you'll never own the panels/system and the contract is a long one. Basically if you sell your house the contract is part of the sale. read more

Got solar panels about a year and a half ago. Has reduced electric bill and no issues.
