Wow the pizza. Got take out while camping. It was hot fresh and filling and done when promised. The best thing was the taste.

Our Server, Caden, was wonderful! He made great suggestions, served us in a timely manner. and was very polite. The salad and homemade Italian dressing was a delicious first course. The pizza was by far the best part of the meal. A thin New York style crust covered in fresh toppings (highly recommend the ViVios special if you like an everything pizza). Vivio's is a Northern Michigan/Burt Lake institution. Family owned/run and absolutely the best pizza around. We order extra crispy. During the Covid shutdown, we'd order a half baked pizza and take it home, finish it off at 500 degrees in our oven - felt like we were eating there. Wonderful old establishment that started in the 40s. My mother used to go dancing here. First time back in decades and was VERY disappointed. The rustic atmosphere was still there, but the dining area was remodeled, dance area gone and it seemed much smaller. On top of that the food was horrendous, service was minimal and it was VERY noisy. Most of us went with the "light fare" and were disappointed. Pork chops over cooked, steak not cooked as requested and poor quality meat. Corn was thawed frozen (and it is the season for delicious sweet corn) "bread" appeared to be toasted leftovers (the bread you would feed to birds and ducks). Tables were packed in like sardines making it difficult to get around - for customers and staff. Perhaps we would have been better off ordering pizza. Waitress apologized, she was filling in and they were terribly understaffed. Front desk staff were rude and yelling at everyone. Prices were way out of line for quality of food and experience. We head north many times each winter, but usually stay closer to Petoskey; we've always heard how great Vivio's is but had never had a chance to try it until tonight. It was everything we were expecting (and maybe more). Think old style Italian in a rustic log cabin-ish atmosphere. When we walked in, the entire bar area was packed, but since we were a smaller party we only waited for 5-10 minutes. The service was surprisingly good for as busy as the place was. I ordered the mostaccioli and my husband ordered the spaghetti with sautéed mushrooms and meat sauce; each came with garlic bread/hard bread sticks beforehand, an antipasto salad and dinner rolls when the meal came out. I was staying in Indian River for the weekend at a friend's cabin and their family is huge fans of Vivios pizza so I knew I had to give it a try. I heard a lot about the different foods they had and the cool ambiance they had inside the restaurant. I was also warned about how busy they get especially since it was a weekend with beautiful weather in northern Michigan. We ended up getting some for to-go but only tried the pizza. One of the best parts is that I knew the pizza was fresh out of the oven. It was nice and hot and I gave it a couple of mins to sit cause it was so fresh that it was too hot to grab. By the looks of the pizza, it looked very standard nothing that stands out too much. It was a little more on the oilier side compared to other pizzas I have had. I thought it was overall a solid pizza but nothing out of the ordinary. I do wish it was not as oily because you could tell just by looking at the box. Although I would give them another try and hopefully sit inside and try other items on their menu. read more

I was in town with my honey and I had a hankerin for my all time favorite food, pizza. He spent many many many summers up in Indian River as a kid, and he said if I needed pizza, I needed Vivio's. Now this place is NOT the place for animal rights nuts. If road kill upsets you or taxadermy offends you, do not come to this establishment. For the rest of us, come one come all! It's delish! The ambiance is so awesome! There are dead animals covering pretty much every square inch of this place. From bears to racoons to squirrels to deer- if its in the animal kingdom and it's dead, its stuffed and hanging from a wall, or ceiling, or fireplace, or beam... We ordered the antipasto salad which was really tasty. It wasn't the BEST I've ever had (that award goes to Lou Malnatti's here in Chicago) but I sure did like it! As for pizza we got a pie with half sausage and half pepperoni topping and it was SOOOO good. I gotta say, their crust was fabulous! If I'm ever back in Indian River I would absolutely return! It was a fun, unique ambiance and delish food! The only downside was our waitress kind of acted like she was irritated or doing us a favor by waiting on us. But the food ws dope! read more

Flew to Michigan, drove to our friend's house in Indian River, and then suited up, riding snowmobiles to this restaurant. Decor is funky. There's a carpet on the floor that looks like faux wood. Stuffed animals to the left and right, some of them in some strange positions. Food was supposedly Italian. We were served garlic bread with butter, and rolls with butter, which were good. I had the Whitefish Vivio's Style (bake in lemon juice and topped with tomatoes and onions). Verdict: awful. Overly dry and fishy tasting. Whitefish is fairly delicate in nature and it's easy to trample all over that if you overcook, which is exactly what they did, unfortunately. My friend had the Lake Perch, which she said was good. The other friend had the manicotti, which was also good (apparently - I didn't taste it). If I came back here, I would try the pizza, as I hear that is good. read more

Known for their pizza. My kids say its great. It's pizza - nothing special from other places. Other dishes are just OK. I had the veal parmigiana. It was baked and covered with melted mozzarella. The breading was soggy. The portion size was large and taste was OK though. I have to agree with other reviewers regarding the bread - "Bread sticks so hard, be careful you don't break your teeth. Next to those were their version of garlic bread which were stale, half slices of white bread toasted on one side sprinkled with garlic salt..." My son turned the breadsticks into drumsticks and proceeded to bang out a beat on the tabletop (embarrassing!). Additionally, the steamed veggies were previously frozen and totally bland. Dinner entrees are definitely overpriced. They have a decent wine list and offer by the glass. Bottle prices are not marked up as much as most restaurants. All in all, if you want good pizza go here, if you are looking for authentic Italian cuisine then don't. read more

This is a favorite up north eatery. Pizza is the go to item most visits. However the baked manicotti and lasagna are delicious. Even though the salad is a little plain, I never leave here without one. Served nice and cold. Antipasto salad the best with their thousand island dressing. Staff is super friendly and you know your up north when you're here. Only thing keeping me from a five star review are their miniature and strangely designed bathrooms. Ordered the cod dinner and the chopped sirloin along with the grilled shrimp appetizer. The appetizer was delicious. And that's where the culinary delight ended. The chopped sirloin $16.95 was basically a greasy burger with frozen corn on the side. No real flavor. The cod was also tasteless (18.95). The waiter had to be asked for coffee refill and the other guest was not offered a refill on her wine. It was like we were an inconvenience to the waiter. Great pizza, good Italian food and decent service. Nothing to complain about. The food is a little expensive for what you get, but when you consider how busy they get in the summer you understand the prices. This is easily the busiest restaurant in the area during the summer months. The decor is very unique and not for everyone, but it fits the northern Michigan culture very well. Go enjoy the outdoor patio, have a drink and order pizza. You will not regret it. Just don't expect to be served immediately on a Friday during the months of June, July and August. This was some of the worst pizza I have ever had in my life. Not only was the crust tasteless and the consistency of cardboard the bread they bring is not fit for birds let alone humans. It was stale tasteless and an utter waste of money. I would not recommend this place to anyone and will never again go to this establishment. read more

Been coming to Vivio's for over 20 years when in Indian River and food is always great. No exception this time as we had a medium Pep/Italian Sausage pie, large 1/2 pep 1/2 cheese and a chicken Park dinner. Everything was very tasty and service was great as usual. The food was quite good as I expected, but one bad server can ruin the whole experience. Commented to the cashier about experience. No apologies. THIS IS A PIZZA REVIEW. Everything we had that wasn't pizza wasn't good. Bread basket? It was toasted, mass produced, cold hard, bread with garlic butter smeared on it. The hard breadsticks were stale and had likely seen more than one basket. My wife's spaghetti was awful. But the pizza, oh the pizza, it made it worth it. I won't even go on about it. Go here. Our niece used to live in the Petoskey are, so while we were up there we asked her for a recommendation for pizza. The only place she mentioned was Vivio's so of course we had to go! The atmosphere was like a hunting lodge and very casual. We ordered the feta breadsticks for an appetizer and pepperoni and mushroom pizza for dinner. Everything was great! Our only surprise was that we were expecting actual breadsticks for the appetizer, but it came out more like a feta pizza. It was yummy, just not what we were expecting. I have sent plates back maybe 3 times in my life. The third time was at Vivio's. I ordered the white fish, and found it inedible. Absolutely disgusting! The "salad" had half an inch of water at the bottom of the bowl. The waitress talked me into swapping a pasta dish for the fish, at the same price. She then brought a huge plate of overcooked spaghetti, with a small scoop of very bland sauce in the middle. It was edible, but barely. Never again. read more

Great Italian spot. Pizzas have a certain something to them that every other chain is lacking. My family has people who do and don't eat dairy, and when we ordered a pizza without cheese, the waitress also told us the crust has butter on it. This bit of knowledge really helped us out! Best pizza place ever! Everytime I fly out here to visit my grandparents from San Diego I always have to come here. I use to come every few years but now that I'm older I come more frequently and nothing feels better eating the best pizza ever with your grandparents. There's also wifi, embarassing to say it's a lowkey necessity for a city boy like myself (I don't get service in Indian River), I gotta take a picture of the delicious food to show off online to everyone back home that they're missing out. Had an issue with our order. Food came out in stages. My husbands pizza was delivered to our table, then 20 minutes later I received my salad. The salad was missing chicken. When I asked the waitress where the chicken was she told me that comes separate and would be out soon. 20 minutes later my kids revived their meals and the noodles were hard it was not edible . I asked again where the chicken for my salad was and the server stated "it was back there but it's not now". I told her I no longer wanted the salad without the chicken and she became very rude stating "if you would let me explain". I requested that she remove the salad from our bill because I did not get what I ordered. My husband left the table to use the restroom and the waitress asked him if he wanted a box while he was walking away, he did not hear her and she called him immature. We then asked to speak to the manager after the waitress continued to be very rude. The manager did not come. We got up to go speak to him and he began yelling at us and stated "you are the reason small businesses close" and threatened to call the police. Very unprofessional and rude staff. We wanted to discuss our concerns, pay our bill and leave. Worst dining experience ever. Would not recommend to anyone. read more
