When you order wollof with chicken, you don't just get a few slices of chicken. You get an entire half chicken on the bone. The server was attentive and helpful...and also very quiet like a ninja. The place was clean and I could imagine how it looks packed with people because it's a pretty large space. This was my first time having African food. I tried the okra soup, the vegetable soup (per their recommendation) with fufu and the African delight. The African delight was jollof rice with chicken and either plantains or puff puff. We got the puff puff and it was tasty! Definitely my favorite out of all that I tried. The fufu and vegetable soup wasn't my favorite when I first tried it, but it was 3 meals in total for me and I enjoyed it way more the other times as leftovers. I added some grilled jalapeño which was exactly what it needed so maybe it get it spicy. It's a very filling meal. The vegetable soup does have meat and tripe in it. The okra was a bit too stringy for me but had decent flavor. Ordered over the phone for pick up and they were nice and chill. read more

Absolutely delicious authentic African food! When you enter, you can definitely smell all of the special spices and seasonings they use. My favorite dish is the Taste Of Africa (I go for chicken). So I went back yesterday and got egusi with eba to go. I came back today and tried Vegetable soup with fufu. BT FAR MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE! I love veggies so of course. Seasoned so perfectly! I had my birthday lunch at Vizo's African Bar & Restaurant. They are my favorite place in town and always so kind. When I walked in I was told "you look different." It was the first time I've gone there in contacts. She then said "you're the one that always wants to try our African beers." So she remembered me. I then had a fantastic meal, with some Cameroonian beer, and a dessert that was amazing. I don't know what the dessert was other than fruit and milk, but it was fantastic. I ate here about 6 times in the last 2 months, and when I say that the food has flavor, it makes me wish I could eat there at least twice a week! I have purchased the Sea Pride with a side of Jollof rice (Spiciness: Medium), and when I say that the presentation was straight out of a magazine, I didn't even want to eat my meal because it looked so beautiful. You can tell the fish was prepared with love and a little kick. The plantains were very soft and lightly sweetened. And the Jollof rice brought the meal full circle with its bold seasonings and the perfect spice level. The fish was just unbelievably delicious! The only thing that concerns me is that I wish that there was an option for a deboned portion because I am not used to eating fish with bones. I have tried The Taste of Africa (with chicken) a few times, and it's my favorite dish because it has a huge serving of the Jollof rice (Spice level: Medium). I'm not a big fan of dark meat chicken and prefer my chicken to be more on the dryer side, but the flavors are delicious! But I do wish there was an option to get a chicken breast over the leg quarter. The service was spectacular! Every time I walk in, I feel like I am truly welcomed with smiles and kindness. This restaurant has really delicious food, affordable prices, with warm and friendly service. Everything was delicious. Even our picky child really liked the Fried African Delight (it has fried rice as a side, but the chicken is grilled). The Zambezi Grilled Ribs were also fantastic, but they are heavily seasoned. Give this little town some culture Vizo's okkkkk!! As a Dallas transplant and adopted in African, I was super pleased to find Vizo's on a random day trip to Lubbock. Amongst all the chain restaurants and random taco spots, I was beyond thrilled to find out I could get authentic African food in the middle of nowhere!!!! I read the other reviews and found out the the owner is apparently Cameroonian so I knew exactly what I wanted to order, ERU!!!! The greens were so tender, the beef was so flavorful and very tender as well. Not too much spice or palm oil and the fufu was fluffy and good as all get out! Would I be crazy to drive 5 hours from Dallas to come back for this delicious a** meal?! And the staff was super nice and genuine. The bathrooms were clean and well lit, and if you know anything about Texas eateries, that's a freakin trifecta! I'm from Houston and we have a wide range of variety in cuisines; Lubbock doesn't have that. Thankfully, there's Vizo's to finally give Lubbock food scene that's exciting. Vizo's was delicious. It was my first time tasting Cameroon cuisine. The owner, Victor gave me a recommendation for vegan options on the menu. I ordered the Koki Korn and yucca root. I enjoyed everything I ordered. My absolute favorite was the Koki Korn, a sweet corn with the consistency of tamales. It reminded me of something my grandma would make me when I was a child. I'm glad the owner came out to explain to my friends about the certain dishes on the menu. Also, the yucca root was tasty. I enjoyed the lemony taste. The texture was a bit rough and hard to chew and cut. They don't have a lot of vegan options (it's Lubbock and African culture) However, I was surprised that they had something. I can't believe it took us so long to try this place. Everyone was so nice, every employee was smiling. The appetizers are priced so you can try them all. And you should. I came to Lubbock for work and this place came highly recommended by my co-worker. He has a worldly palette and realized I may enjoy some good food besides the fast food I had been eating on my trip. A little inquiry from my cousin who is Cameroonian and a part of that community, reinforced this recommendation. The actual restaurant is in a strip mall type of area and when I went in the dining area was spotless. Even looking in back, everything seemed to be very clean. It was funny because the gentleman who rang me up recognized from my last name that I was also Cameroonian. He was also professional but had a cool friendliness about him. I paid for my meal thanked him and went back to the hotel to eat. I ordered the Savannah pride with fried plantains, and a fish pie. Traditionally we serve our fish whole which I was so excited about. Now friends, this is where I tell you before I even describe this food that if you are ever in Lubbock... This should be your first stop! It doesn't matter if you have never had African food, whether you are an excellent African cook, or even if you have eaten already... This place is the truth! The plating was outstanding. It's really hard to make some of our food look good on a plate, but these restaurant owners have a gift. As if the smell was not already mouthwatering, looking at it definitely had my gastric juices roaring. I settled in to tuck into my fish of course, eating with my hands. I then noticed that they had forgotten my pepper. I was a bit disappointed, but since I don't really eat pepper like that I won't even bother taking a star off. But we all know that side of pepper would have taken it to the next level and they would have needed six stars instead. My first bite was... I don't even know how to describe it I was taken to a whole other dimension, it was so good! Seasonings, on point! Plantains... Fried to perfection. I tucked in and did not stop until they were only bones on my plate. My only consolation was that I still had my fish pie, because I still wanted more! The fish pie did not disappoint. Oh. My. Goodness! We tried this place because of other yelp reviews and were not disappointed. Same as other reviews, service was absolutely excellent. I can't remember the names of everything we got, but the Scottish egg and meat pies were so good. I don't remember the name of our other favorite, but it was the fried something? It was chicken and rice and was 10/10. My boyfriend loves spice and I don't so we got the mild, but they gave us hot sauce with the appetizers and he loved it, and put it on everything. I tried the fufu and it reminds me of mashed potatoes with the consistency of gnocchi pasta, I loved it. The ultimate star of the show though was Nanas cake for desert. I have no words for how perfect the warm cake and cold ice cream went together. Definitely adding this to our rotation when I come to town! read more

Came here for a random date with my girlfriend, and let me just say WOW. We were the only two there for about an hour and a half, which was shocking to us because it was around lunch time This place has awesome portion sizes, the food quality and taste are amazing! We didn't even know this place was here but we're so glad we found it! We haven't been back since most places have been closed due to the virus. And I really hope this place is able to keep it's doors open because it's very good! My first experience with Vizos was through Yelp for best hot wings. It was spot on. I returned later in the week to sample their African cuisine and was very pleased. I love to taste a different cultures culinary offerings. I was not disappointed. It's a very nice adventure for a change up from the usual West Texas offerings. Let's start with the biggest positive: the food was fantastic. If you've never had African cuisine, they have some great traditional and fusion options for you to try to ease yourself in. I had the short rib and I will hardcore recommend this to anyone who is going there for the first time. That being said, the interior is lacking and the ambiance is a bit sad. The service, to me, was fantastic but I hate places that wait on me hand and foot. I like when the waitstaff leave me alone. I hate when the manager or owner comes and asks me if my meal was good. The reviews from other folks said the service was phenomenal. They weren't exaggerating. Victor, the owner, is from Cameroon. He explained that 80% of their menu items are from West Africa (including Cameron). The other 20% is from North Africa We enjoyed the Chicken Swarma appetizer so much. I could 2 or 3 of these as my Main course. Their spin on it borrows from Tunisia and Egypt. I was adventurous and tried the Fufu and Eru. Very traditional dish. Eru is spinach cooked with crayfish,, dried fish, and red oil -- I requested no beef in mine. The fufu is a sort of doughy mashed potato that you use to scoop up the Eru. Victor was kind enough to give me lessons on how to eat it they way he did. All around excellent experience at affordable prices. read more
