We heard from some local friends about this place. We were pretty impressed with the ambience. It's small and point but the service was great. We were really impressed with the options of sushi rolls and the freshness of the actual fish. We consider ourselves having sushi lovers and this place stands out as one of our favorites. 1 Star (would give 0 if possible) I am absolutely disgusted with Volcanic Sushi in Cutler Bay. I went to pick up my DoorDash order, and my name was clearly on the bag. Since there was NO ONE at the front for over 10 minutes, I picked up my bag and started to review my order. Out of nowhere, the woman working there came out and started screaming at me in front of everyone, demanding to know "who the f** I thought I was"* for simply picking up my food! I explained that my name was on the order and that no one was around to help me, but she continued to make a huge scene and embarrass me. When I tried to talk to the manager (who I was told is also the owner), he LAUGHED and didn't care at all about how rude and unprofessional his staff was. Instead of apologizing, they doubled down on the attitude. To top it off, when I asked for an extra sauce, the same rude waitress said she could charge me for it. Really? After treating a customer this way, you still want to nickel-and-dime me over sauce? Absolutely pathetic. This is by far the worst service I have ever experienced in a restaurant. The staff is unprofessional, the management clearly doesn't care about customers, and the entire experience was humiliating. I will never set foot in this place again, and I strongly suggest that others save themselves the time, money, and aggravation. read more

Came here on a Monday during lunch as we were in the area. We were greeted and seated right away. They have a couple table seatings and several booths. There was only one waitress there at the time but she was very attentive. They have a decent amount of options on their lunch menu. We ordered the Melissa bites to start and I loved it. I usually don't like appetizers like that but the rice was crispy and not too oily. The sauce was light and the tuna was fresh. I opted for the combo #3 with salmon teriyaki. The salmon was delish. It was pan fried so it was crispy on the outside with a pineapple type light teriyaki sauce. The sauce was definitely made fresh and not the bottle teriyaki sauce most restaurants serve. The rice was fluffy. It also came with 6 pcs California roll so it was plenty. My husband got the chopped spicy bowl with tuna and salmon and he ate every single thing in the bowl. My 7 year old got the kids steak teriyaki and he loved it. My 6 year old got a tonkotsu ramen all to himself and he basically ate all of it, which that has never happened before. I treated the soup and it tasted a bit too salty for my taste buds. The only thing I thought was weird was when the check was requested, what was presented by the waitress was the total on toast tab. I guess I could have just asked for an itemized receipt. I usually like to see the itemized to make to verify what was being charged. And I didn't like it that the tip options were tax included and not pre tax which that's how it should be. I don't mind tipping and I usually tip well but we shouldn't have to tip on taxes too. I know the amount probably isn't much of a difference but it's the principle. Otherwise, I would definitely come back if I'm in the area again. read more

This place used to be my favorite sushi restaurant in the area, but quality has gone down a lot lately. I ordered 3 rocking shrimps and they all had burnt areas and most were broken on the bottom. The taste is also not as good as usual. The Caroline bites look so unappetizing that no one wanted to eat them. I also found a piece of aluminum foil inside my son's roll. I'm very disappointed with the last several orders I've placed and I think is time for me to find a new sushi place. read more

My boyfriend and I decided to give this spot a try today for dinner. Our server Dayana greeted us right away. She was super friendly and welcoming! As appetizers we ordered the bao buns, the crab ragoons, and the Melissa bites. The 3 were delicious, but OMG the Melissa Bites were phenomenal!!! It's fried sushi rice with Tuna tartare on top. I'll be dreaming about those tonight!!! To share we also ordered the Alexander roll and the Rocking Shrimp roll. These blew our mind, they were so good!! I honestly can't decide which one was better. For dessert we ordered the ice cream tempura. Unfortunately, this one wasn't so great. I think the ice cream ball was not as frozen as it should have been cause it did not hold up in the fryer. By the time it got to us most of the ice cream was almost melted. The tempura coating was also laid on a little too thick, cause the inside was still a bit raw. Overall our experience was great, we will definitely be back and hope to make this our neighborhood sushi spot. When we got there it was empty, so service was super fast. Red Dragon Roll tasted and looked like it had been sitting there for hours (tuna was pasty), the 3 rolls we asked for were smaller than a roll should typically be, my order instructions were not followed (EXclude ginger and wasabi), the containers were those you get when you buy from a food truck; I love food truck food but I'm paying for Sushi! which should be quality seafood and presentation. This location is new to the Cutler Bay area, like not even 30 days new, I say it should be providing top quality sushi and presentation to attract customers and gain customer repetition. I'm not a picky consumer, I honestly just about always give restaurants a fair review, but this is a NEW establishment, expectations are high, especially for sushi which already is Pricey $$$. I was part of a party of three to dine here last night. Between us we ordered the chicken curry satay appetizer, two sushi rolls, and the basil 1/2 duck entree. The small appetizer and the bountiful rolls were adequate to fit the menu descriptions, however underwhelming. More artisanal than the sushi from the supermarket in that plaza. The half duck comes with red and green peppers and a LOT of brown sauce. The duck was cooked perfectly and the skin was crispy--just what you would hope for. However, if I order a half of any avian dish, I don't expect to get the "rear half." Two thighs and two drumsticks. No breast, no wing. Service was pleasant and attentive, and the ambience is quiet. Seat backs in the booths are straight vertical. Bring your good posture. Pleasant experience, but I would travel up the road to Sushi Runner in Palmetto Bay the next time I'm jonesing for really good sushi. read more
