Upon first walking in, I was hit with a "not fresh" fish smell combined with oil from their grill and it was a very off putting first impression. The miso soup was lukewarm and overloaded with seaweed which made it inedible to me. The sushi was just ok but the rolls with cooked salmon were the worst offenders. They did not taste fresh and gave me the ick so I wasn't able to finish eating. I don't think I'd ever come back when we have several far better sushi spots just a couple miles away. read more

This place is an amazing hidden gem! They have public bathrooms and an online menu where you can see specifically what is vegetarian! It is handicap accessible (although there isn't a ton of space for wheelchairs inside). You can seat yourself when you walk in. An employee will give you a black menu and a menu to choose rounds of sushi. We had Alex and he was great! Super friendly and refilled my water plenty of times. I got the yakisoba with tofu instead of chicken and it was delicious. I highly recommend!! My friend got two rounds of sushi (6 pieces per round) plus an appetizer and it was all under $25! I pass by this place weekly and I just tried it! Super good rolls, a tab bit pricey, they're a bit smaller rolls then my regular sushi place and $1-$2 more per roll as well. But overall they're good! We likes all the ones we ordered no complaints! Definitely give it a try read more

My go-to sushi place and im picky with my sushi! I've gone here for years. They're amazing.

I called ahead, they are open until 9:30pm. The restaurant is located by Schoenherr and by the Red Wing shoe store. It's a small spot inside. 6 tables and 4 sushi bar seats. Our waiter is attentive and quite patient too. We ordered two house salads, a mad hatter, a tropical roll, a yum yum roll, a fire cracker roll and a golden lobster roll. The house salad is okay, the dressing is intensely sweet, could use some more ginger. The salad is made with iceberg lettuce. The mad hatter has raw red snapper in it. I forgot the asterisk means it's a raw roll. The waiter had them remove the raw red snapper for us. The second version of it was good. Nice with yeh mango and the crunch from the wonton triangle. The golden lobster roll has crawfish eggs and salad on top. The waiter and sushi had originally told me there was no eggs in the roll, since we had asked to not have any eggs in the rolls at all. They remade the roll and put krab salad on top of the roll instead of the crawfish salad and eggs for us. It was okay, not my favorite of the 4 rolls much. The tropical roll was the best of the 4 rolls. A nice crunchy outer to it. The yum yum roll was also quite good, crunchy tempura fried edge to it as well. The firecracker roll was also good. Had a great experience here. Group of 12 of us. Place is tiny inside. We put 3 tables together and all the staff catered to our needs and got the food out all at the same time. Great variety to choose from. Thank goodness not just sushi served. Anyone can find something on the menu to choose from. Reasonably priced. Nice selection of beers as well as saki. So glad we came here! A friend of mine suggested we try this place- first time for both of us. We absolutely loved it. Service was so fast and friendly, the food was very fresh. We loved our waiter. My family has been going here for YEARS, especially my dad because the sushi here is so good (OR SO WE THOUGHT). My dad got food poisoning from here so bad that now hes in the hospital getting an IV for dehydration since he was throwing up so much and the owner basically told him "too bad" and didn't even offer to refund the food he got or even apologize. This is completely unacceptable to me!! I will be encouraging my dad to file a dispute with his bank as soon as he feels human-like again and I will NEVER go back to this place and will tell everyone I know to avoid this place like the plague. I'm so disgusted and this makes me want to avoid sushi for awhile especially since I have personally gone here many times myself and always thought that the food was great. Not anymore. UPDATE: I went up there to talk to them after I called asking for the manager (Monica) and the associate told me that she would be there in the afternoon. When I got there, I asked for her and she was standing right there and didn't even look or anything. The only reason why I KNEW it was her was because the associate went to her and asked her a question about the situation and she finally comes up to me without apologizing and says that we need to get a doctors note saying that my dad got food poisoning from them. I told them that I had a pic of my dad laying in a hospital bed and they said that wasnt enough. Did they expect us to just save his vomit from the day he ate there and have the doctor test it for sushi remains? F*** THIS PLACE! My dad spent almost $60 on sushi and they couldn't just refund him? I'm sorry but thats unacceptable and it shows that they don't respect their customers at all. Do you really want to eat at an establishment that serves raw fish and doesnt even care when you get sick from the food they prepared for you? I really wanted to like this place. In a way, I still do. But there is room for improvements. Volcano Sushi is located in a strip mall near a Subway and Boston Market and within close proximity to my boyfriend's house when we're in the mood for the occasional sushi roll. The first time I was here we ordered a carry out that came out fresh and hot within 20 minutes. Everything was cooked to order and I remember falling in love with whatever volcano roll my boyfriend made me try. Awesome! Couldn't wait to go back and get the real experience in person one day. A few months go by and the boyfriend is really in the mood for either hibachi or sushi. I haven't tried either (he's more adventurous with his eating and I like to play it safe in what I'm comfortable with) and knowing hibachi was more expensive, I kindly let him take me Volcano Sushi. A few tables surround the counter with a TV in view to keep you occupied. A waiter comes by with our drinks and the boyfriend ordered what is now "Our Usual." Again I'm not sure what it's called other than its spicy and TO DIE FOR. We also ordered a California roll that does taste divine with some extra soy sauce. The waiter/server was less than kind. He didn't bother asking how our meal was (It was great) and never bothered to refill our drinks. We both definitely got the vibe that he was "too good" to be serving. Maybe he was a cook and it was short staffed but throwing our food and chop sticks on the table left me with a bad taste in my mouth. Overall the food is delicious! I've been craving sushi for a while and we decided to go here for girls night out and this place did not disappoint! I've never been here before. My favorite of the three rolls I ordered was the Dennys roll. I originally just ordered it because it's my brothers name and thought it was funny but man was I glad I got it. Probably one of my favorite sushi's I've ever had. The flavor of the sauce on top and whole combination was just perfect. I was a little hesitant to order thinking that the salmon piece on top might be dry and not taste great but it was perfect. I also loved the Bistro roll! Will definitely be ordering those two every time I will come here from now on. The shrimp tempura roll was just ok. A little too bland for me but it was still good.
