Just tried this on Saturday after moving to the area. Arguably one of my favorite pizzas I've had since moving to the Boston area. The sauce is perfect, and the crust is cooked to perfection. The owner Tony was really kind and made great recommendations. As for the spot itself it's right on the main drag with a great view of Boston, and awesome outdoor seating when it's warm out. On another note I'm surprised by the Portnoy Rating, I thought the pizza was far better than the score he gave. I'm looking forward to getting Volo again really soon! read more

Very unique flavor sauce. Great flavor in the crust that was my favorite part. High quality cheese being used here. It is a smaller place. It will probably be hit or miss for you. I'm visiting family and they recommended Volo's Detroit style pizza for dinner. I called in an order for a Verde pizza (a white pizza with grilled chicken, broccoli, sautéed spinach and garlic). At $27, it's pricier than most pizza in the area, but with the great reviews, I figured it must be woth it. When we got the pizza home, I noticed that it had an abundance of broccoli and spinach, but a more limited amount of tiny pieces of chicken. The crust was the best part of the pizza. The pizza itself was dry and had absolutely no garlic or seasoning at all. It tasted like broccoli bread. Then my nephew found a piece of blue plastic in his pizza, which was mostly covered by cheese. Needless to say, I don't get the hype about this place. There are plenty of pizza places in the area, so I'm not likely to order from here again. read more

Really good Detroit style pizza. The double trouble has the perfect blend of cuppy pepperoni, hot honey, and jalapeños that were balanced *just right* with the cheese and sauce. Dough had good chew, inside was fluffy, and the cheese edges were crispy and not overdone. Quick and friendly on the phone. I ordered Volo for my cousins highschool graduation party, it was a huge hit! I brought the Detroit Margarita, Cheese and Pepperoni. Everyone absolutely loved it. The crust was cooked to perfection, the sauce is to die for and you can tell they use quality cheese. I highly recommend ordering from here as everyone will ask you where you got the pizza from. Last night I had the pleasure of visiting Volo Craft Pizza in Swampscott, MA -- and wow, what an experience! The ambiance right by the water is beautiful, with Boston's skyline in the distance, and the service made us feel right at home. Owners Pina and Tony are so warm and personable -- it truly feels like family when you're there. Now, the food... absolutely incredible. Having grown up with New York City parents (and with my own background working in a pizza restaurant), I know good pizza when I taste it -- and this was next-level. Their Detroit-style Double Trouble pizza with hot honey was out of this world. The Caesar salad with fresh-grated cheese was crisp and flavorful, and don't even get me started on the cannolis with chocolate chips and lemon -- pure heaven. I'd happily drive 35 minutes any day for this. The pizzas are clearly made with love, and I can't wait to bring my parents back to try it. Honestly the Best Detroit style pizza I've ever had in my life! It was lucky for us to walk in to small pizza shop during our engagement photo shoot on cloudy Sunday afternoon. The business was pretty small and they maybe had one table but people were eating outside since the weather was so nice and they've got tables outside. We ordered Margherita and Double Trouble (pepperoni, jalapeños, hot honey) with Detroit style as we were starving! The pizzas were so tasty, the dough was perfect, cheese was melting in our mouth, and crust was perfectly crispy. Out-of-this-world is how I would describe Volo's Detroit style "Double Trouble" pizza. The crispy edges were just right. The dough was nice and thick but not too heavy, with an amazing crunch. The cheese was gooey and flavorful. The sauce was perfect as were the cupped pepperonis. The hot honey and jalapeños were just right, not too hot but still had some kick. If you hate pizza, check out Volo craft pizza. You will be converted. If you love pizza, you've come to the right spot. Fair warning, this is a takeout spot. Don't expect to sit and enjoy your pizza inside. Either you live near the restaurant or go to a friends house in the area and drive as fast and as safely as you can so you can enjoy the best Detroit style pizza/one of the best pizza's in the state. If those aren't options, find a parking spot and eat it on the beach across the street. Don't forget to get some meatballs, they were very good. Next time I'll get a meatball sub. The New York style was good but I wouldn't rank it best in state but I think very good. Dave from Barstool would rank it 7.8 probably. The Detroit style though is at least 8.4 if not better. What a nice place and a nice pizza! I had the chance to finally visit Volo, which i have heard so much about over the past 6 months. There is nothing like going to a place that you have wanted to. visit for a long time! Upon entering the shop, the first thing I was surprised about was how small it was. A small store-front a very busy street, for sure. As you can see in the pictures, there is not alot of room. However, I didn't let that bother me. The gentleman at the counter was very nice and personable. I ordered a cheese pizza. They have two types (NY- circle pizza and Detroit- square pizza). I chose the NY. The phone was ringing off the hook for take-out. I did not see any signs of a delivering service but that may be out back....not sure. The menu is full of great things, other than pizza. Next time I visit, I will try the wings as it seemed like alot of people were calling in for wings! The Celtics were playing in an hour so I figured people were watching the game and chowing down on pizza, wings and salad! What a great way to spend a Sunday! Back to my experience, when I got my pizza, I was surprised how fast it came out. I like the weight (not too heavy) and it didn't see too hot. When I got to my car, I opened the top and it was not steaming...which is good news for the roof of my mouth. The pizza tasted awesome. The sauce and cheese were perfect. It was not burn't and the crust was awesome. The pizza was cut in 6 slices, which was different but not bad. I will definitely return with family. This place does the best Detroit pizza in MA by a mile. Swampscott is a hike from where I stay when I'm back home visiting my parents but this place is worth it. Hits the mark on dough, cheese, and sauce...pizza is baked perfect and has the perfect caramelized crown crust. No complaints about the service and the ambiance of eating a nice pie outside in great weather is perfect. This is the best pizza in the boston area, period. The drive up to Swampscott is beautiful, and makes getting the cheesy, saucy Detroit style pizza a special treat. Not only is the food delicious but the family who owns it is so sweet and helpful--they kept bringing out extra napkins for us as we made a mess scarfing down the pizza. I've had New York style pizza before from other restaurants, but I've never had Detroit style. So, I ordered the the classic cheese at Volo - Detroit style. When I say this is the best pizza I ever had, I mean it. Anyone can easily tell that Volo's Detroit style pizza comes from the highest quality ingredients available. It is absolutely delicious. The sauce is fresh and seasoned perfectly. It has a wonderful robust flavor. The cheese and pizza dough were cooked perfectly. The dough was soft inside and the outside was crispy. Considering the amount of cheese that was on top, I was surprised to see that there was very little grease. The owners were so friendly. There was no seating strictly take out but they had a small table outside which they brought in just for us. We also brought our own beer knowing they didn't serve it there. We drank our beer and has their wonderful pizza. The sauce was delicious. The crust was crunchy towards the edges. The lacing was so good. Right to the edge. We ordered the double trouble, left off the honey and added red onions. The sauce was tangy and so flavorful. Come to find out they use San Marzano tomatoes. The owner said they use exact specifications and I wondered about the Wisconsin brick cheese. The crust was crunchy in the bottom and edges but the inside was soft and airy. It was a little thicker than I like and I liked for the cheese in the crust and they were not visible. However it did not take away from the flavor and overall experience. The owners were great. Wonderful. They welcomed us like we were family visiting. And they even gave us a canoli to try which was amazing!! Fresh shell, fresh filled the ricotta filling was so smooth and not too sweet. By the way, she is from the North End! We will go back.
