Friendly atmosphere with mom and pop feels. Our meal was savory and hit the spot. We ordered the hot and sour soup, Thai wings, spring rolls and gang gai curry with chicken.

I LOVE it here i really do, one day after the movies me & my girlfriend decided to stop here, the food was GREAT. Have you ever seen that movie ratatouille? When ego tasted all the delicious flavors brought him back to when mommy made it. SOOOO GOOD

    Looks great!

This was a nice little surprise to find today - mixed reviews but it sounds like there may have a few turn overs in ownership? Not sure. That said, my colleague and I enjoyed a nice lunch. The curries had big flavor and honestly quite tasty as well. Very glad we stumbled in here today. The service was also well worth noting - she was slammed but didn't miss a beat!! Bookmarked this puppy!

I typically get the fried Rice dishes. If you like your fried rice more well done and 'fried' they cook the rice a bit more and darker and crispier than any other Thai place in north metro Detroit that I've been. Fair price, and portions. I recommend this place to friends and coworkers. I got k5 ( Thai chili paste fried rice). I like to add potatoes and peanuts. They're pretty good with customization. I get xxspicy and their spice hits hard so you have been warned.

Went in to try some good ole Thai food. I ordered c-2 with beef and it came with hot and sour soup. The soup was o-k was more on the sour side. But the dish itself was excellent. I asked for hot and boy was it spicy! Just how I like it. Next time I would recommend chicken instead of beef, because when cooking with curry beef tends to suck the gravy more making it really chewy. But over all great amount of ingredients and meat. I went during lunch time and only paid $9 for my meal including my Thai ice tea!

R6 - Vegetable Curry with fried tofu

Made the special trip to 15 and Mound to see our old friend James (formerly making people sweat at Pi's Thai) and I'm glad we did. He is just a joy and we got a wonderful welcome when we walked in. It seems their intention is to be carry-out only. There's room for about 10 or 12 people to eat comfortably, but 1) they only have carry-out menus, 2) you order and pick up your food at the counter (i.e., no waiter service), and 3) there are no plates. I had to use an additional carry out container to mix my rice and vegetable curry. My Vegetable Curry with fried tofu though? Outstanding! The thing I love about James' Vegetable Curry (R6) is that it's not just a bunch of water chestnuts and bamboo with the occasional green pepper and carrot bit thrown in. He adds some sort of squash (maybe even pumpkin) and cauliflower, and I don't believe there was a single water chestnut. Also, the fried tofu was excellent; way better than what he was working with at Pi's. I hated that tofu. To any newcomers, James likes it hot. That's one of many reasons why he's so legendary. My suggestion is to take your normal spice request down at least 1/2 a grade. For example, I'm typically a medium/medium-plus girl, but I barely handle anything over mild-plus when James is cooking. Consider yourself warned. Don't try to be a hero. No one will think less of you for ordering mild. My only beef would be that someone was obviously smoking in the back while we were eating, and that just sucked. I mean, it didn't bother me as much before the smoking ban, but now that I'm so used to not having to smell smoke while I'm eating... it was a bummer for sure.

Their sign is easy to see as you drive by, but my friend did give me a heads up that their door was not obvious. You need to walk through a fence and then open a non deacript door. The artwork outside is awesome! When we walked in we received a friendly greeting and were quickly shown to our seats. We had made a reservation ahead of time and there was no delay to seat us upon our arrival. Our server was friendly and took our drink orders right away. I appreciated that they had multiple non alcoholic drinks and at a fair price. I started with the Thai Iced tea which was delicious, but I would have loved a glass 2x the size! We ordered multiple dishes to share amongst us. I did ask the server how many dishes they recommended that we order as I wasn't sure of the size. The items are brought out as they are made, so we had food being dropped off to is at random intervals. The only slight issue we experienced was when someone else tried to bring a plate of squid to our table. We let them know that we had not ordered it. They then went and talked to our server, who brought the squid back to our table. We also let them know that we had not ordered that dish. Our server did bring back our order slip and looked it over, and I believe at that point they realized that we really had not ordered that dish and just weren't rejecting it. I am not sure if it had been written wrong, communicated to the kitchen wrong, or what but we did have to state multiple times that we had not ordered it. The rest of our dishes arrived correctly. The crispy chive cakes were great, and the sticky spare ribs were AMAZING. The caramel glaze on the outside of the ribs was so good, and they were tender as well. The outside was super crispy. I would absolutely ordered these again. I would say that both of those dishes were only for 2 people. The sticky rice and jasmine rice were as to be expected, and I personally felt that the papaya salad was not as good as others I have had. The chilli noodles had an amazing broth and I would also recommend. Overall, I did enjoy our dinner but I am not sure that I would go out of my way to return. I am rounding up to 4 stars based on the sticly ribs alone, otherwise a 3.5 would be more fair. I have been hearing about Takoi for years, so maybe my epxections were too high but I was expecting a bit more.
