UPDATE* After I called the Main Corporate office for all Von's they sent my number to the Director of this Von's he called within 30 minutes and I was blown away at how fast he reached out. I explained and he acknowledged there is a code for people who did not know how to use digital coupons and he even said the cashier should have been able to help me without going to guest services. He also verified that yes I should have been able to take my belongings to the guest desk. I only fave them 4/5 stars for now as he was so quick to respond and that gives me faith in this store that they do take complaints seriously. He offered a gift card as well to rectify the situation but I am just happy that I was contacted so quickly. I really hope this does not happen to anyone again. I never felt so insulted and treated rudely at a grocery store until today. I am new to CA and we do not have a Von's out in Indiana. They sent ads so I saw there are digital coupons so I downloaded the app and the coupons. I told the cashier it was my first time using the app And digital coupons and was told i had to link it first. I repeated again How to do it and she said i had to go to the guest desk. I asked if i can take the stuff with me to guest relations and she said no so I said Im not buying any of it. She acted all frustrated and annoyed and Im sorry I bought those groceries specifically for the coupon deals a bag of chips for full price was almost $5 the sale was $1.69. Wish I could give this location a negative 10 review. I have been a loyal vons shopper for over 20 years. Since moving to Carlsbad I've found this locations pharmacy to be extremely difficult to deal with. They refuse to fill my prescriptions unless I also get additional items THEY deem necessary. Sure smells like insurance fraud to me. Guess they need to game the system to create more revenue. It's places like this that cause insurance costs to rise. Everyone in the deli never wants to serve you, and every time you ask them for assistance they are obviously annoyed because they're doing something else, they're never happy or welcoming, I asked the older lady for help today and she told me she was busy making food and I'd have to wait, they hide out so no one sees them or asks for help, I also asked to get a money order and one of the cashiers told me it's too busy. read more

The bakery at this Vons is outstanding! It's so hard celebrating kiddos' birthdays in the pandemic and we wanted a special cake for our 4-year-old's birthday. He loves the "Cars" movies and the bakery said they could make a cake with this theme for us. We didn't know what to expect, but the cake was a true stunner, beautifully decorated and complete with real toy cars from the movies! On top of that, it was sooooo yummy and fresh! When we bought the house across the street, the phrase, "Can we talk about how close we are to the fucking VONS?" came out of my mouth. I was super excited to essentially have a huge pantry and booze store right across the street. While it is super nice to have the ability to walk 5 minutes and buy whatever the wife and I need to make our next meal, this store isn't so great. The wife and I drink bubble water non-stop. I really like the lime flavor a lot. It's a good taste and works well with some vodka or gin. When the checker has asked me, "Did you find everything ok?" I've taken the opportunity to ask for the lime bubble water. After asking 2 different checkers and not seeing the lime flavor show up, I was lucky enough to be checked out by the store manager. THIS time, I would get my lime deliciousness. He even wrote it down in his phone. This was about 2 months ago and alas, still, no lime bubble water. Sadness. The wife has asked for broccolini (whatever that is) a couple of times without that product appearing either. Some of the people that work in this VONS are a little, how do you say, odd. One guy behind the deli talks to me about motorcycles and motorcross each time I go in there. I appreciate that you're trying to be friendly and talk to me about stuff, but I know nothing about the subject and only respond with courteous, "Oh, really?" type of replies. Great store (well kept up, good selection of products, etc) but boy have they been understaffed. I'm standing in line at one of the busiest times of the day (5:30) and there are only 2 checkouts open. This doubles the previous visit where the line was past Starbucks with only 1 checkout open. I know businesses are struggling, but this should be taken care of. Busiest time of the day = all hands on deck at the checkout. I am a big Vons fan and have shopped there for years. However, their pick/delivery service is dismal, especially concerning during the pandemic when most stores have improved their online offerings. I ordered from Amazon Fresh, Instacart and others with good luck. However, the Vons experience was bad from the get-go: 1. Did not have my address in their system. Customer service said I would have to reach out to the USPS and have them change my status in their system. Sounds like a nightmare, plus the other grocery delivery services, and UPS, FedEx, DoorDash, etc. all are good on my address. So, I opted for pick up as I had just spent 20 minutes shopping online and would lose it. 2. Pick-up time quoted was 4-1/2 to 5-1/2 hour window. Long - again compared to others. Even Amazon delivered in 2 hours. 3. Order was late. I waited on customer service hold for 20 minutes to check on order and then hung up and called the store. They said they would process it in 5 minutes. It sounded like my order was just sitting there. 4. Had several missing items and substitutions -- which I do understand. However, this was a bit screwed up. Instead of giving me 1 medium salsa, they charged me for 2 mild salsas -- and then only gave me 1. I was double charged for pears. Wanted regular hamburger buns, of which there are many kinds in the store, but they substituted giant, huge, mammoth buns the size of my head. 5. Most egregious was they left out my wine, which I needed after my ordeal with Vons! I will not order again online from Vons, which is too bad, because it is my preferred store. As my practices are leaning more toward online purchases these days, that means I'm likely to find a new favorite grocery store. read more

This is a great Vons. They pretty much always have everything in stock and they have one of the best organic selections of any Vons/Safeway that I have been too... Yes, they are a bit more expensive then other grocery stores, but when you sign up for the Vons club card, the savings make up for the added costs. Another tip is to Download the Vons iPhone app, it is awesome and basically gives you coupons based on your shopping habits. This is my go to Grocery store in the south Carlsbad area. I said hello to you, and you ignored me, then spoke over my head at someone else. Didn't offer me a bag, told me "you leave when I say you can leave." (Because I pulled my card out of the machine .5 second early) You seem to have a lot of anger towards the middle school kids that hang out in front of the store, but guess what buddy? I don't go here very often. In fact, it's probably been a least a year since I was here. But I want to keep an open mind and revisit. In short, yesterday's visit was a disaster. And I truly mean that. I went in response to an advertised special for 3 starbucks coffee packs on sale and you get free milk valued up to $5.99. Expected the trip to take about 10 minutes because these were the only items I was purchasing. Had my 3 girls with me- they were energetic, but behaving. Got my 3 starbucks packages, a gallon of organic milk ($6.49- so I expect to pay the $.50 difference) Went to a checkout lane staffed by a seasoned checker "Sheryl" whose nametag displayed she'd been with the company since 1976. There was a LONG delay with the customer in front of me (an item rang up twice what the shelf tag read) so we waited and waited for someone else to come resolve this. People in line behind me moved to another lane. (I should have!) Finally, it's my turn and I have my items with credit card in hand, ready to get out of there ASAP. But no, "Sheryl" tells me that "the system won't let me" get the gallon of organic milk because it's more than $5.99 and that I'll have to buy a certain brand and that brand doesn't offer organic milk. I know this is not the case and I hand her the ad which clearly states that's not the case- no such restrictions. She forces the issue and sells me the regular, generic milk. At this point, I know I'm getting nowhere because she is simply clueless. Sweet, professional, courteous, but had no clue as how to process this promotion for organic milk! So I have to flag a supervisor who calmly returns the wrong milk and fixes the problem. (thank you!) This all took 30 minutes AFTER I had the items in hand!!! Am I upset at getting the wrong kind of milk? If only it were that simple. During this entire painstaking process, my 3 girls are running up and down the front of the store, pushing the race car cart, and attempting to climb up the stack of water bottles to grab the huge blow up Nemo fish. Perhaps if I didn't have 3 kids in tow, I would not have had such a negative experience. But I do expect the stores I visit to deliver prompt, efficient service and it obviously has a huge impact on the total experience. Can I EVER return here with my kids and have expectations that we can get in and out within a reasonable time? Highly doubtful. read more

Had to go out late last night for some groceries and sack lunch supplies for my daughters field trip the next day. Went online to see what stores were still open nearby. This Vons was the only thing in the close vicinity. They're open until 1 AM for the midnight shoppers. How convenient. The only downside to shopping here at this time was that the store employees were re-stocking all the shelves for the following day. When I say all the shelves, I mean ALL the shelves. Every aisle had pallets of supplies waiting to be placed on the shelves, in the refrigerator or freezer. It was a maze of groceries and pallats wrapped or unwrapped in plastic. A plus for this location is that they have a Starbucks and a Panda Express inside as well as a Wells Fargo. I don't frequent those other places inside, but I'm sure it's handy for many. Do not use for custom cake orders. Ordered a themed cake for my daughter's 18th birthday. Pickup time was 7pm on Friday. I arrived to an incorrect cake -- no theme just hastily written "happy 18th birthday" on the cake that I easily could have done myself. I have full documentation of the order to show the screw up. No bakery personnel were in the store at that time. The on duty supervisor did her best and understood but there was no way to rectify the problem. They made me pay full price for another generic cake and gave me 25% off the incorrect cake. I asked why would the bakery schedule a pickup so late when no people are available? I could have easily come in earlier in the day and we could have fixed the problem if someone was in store who could help. So a big part of the 18th birthday party we were having was messed up. pretty big screw up. My option is now to spend my Saturday back at Vons trying to negotiate a refund of some kind. Being an out-of-town visitor stopping in here to pick up a couple of things, I didn't experience the issues the others have mentioned. I didn't get a prescription filled and didn't experience smokers out front. it was a pretty standard trip to a grocery store. The checker was friendly and even ensured that I entered my Safeway number (didn't realize I should) to save me $5 on my purchase. The store was clean, organized and looked like it had just about everything with the exception of a good card for a wedding, that section of cards was small and all very stereotypically boring. A couple stars for doing their best when the floral department was on their lunch break. I needed about 15 balloons for a baby shower which was about a block away. Rather than going to Party City, I decided to pick up the balloons at Vons along with the spinach dip and veggie trays. No one was in floral when I approached, so I walked over to the first checkstand and the checker announced that I was waiting in the floral department. 10 minutes went by and no one came, so I went back to the checker and she made another announcement. A gentleman came over to help me and as he started blowing up the balloons, the store manager came over to check. The floral department girl came back from lunch about 10 minutes later and finished ringing me up. I brought in one mylar balloon from a party kit and they charged me the same price to blow it up as they charged me for the latex balloons i purchased. Weird. Generally I enjoy this location being across the street from where I live, untill an employee named Sidney called the cops on me today... It all started by being called to check my car for my dog on the intercom, I came out very worried seeing the employee Sidney staring at it. She went on telling me my car was not ventilated enough for my dog. I actually walked with her and stuck my hand through the top of the windows confused by what she meant, where she became very flustered saying she's not ok with that storming off while pulling her phone out and glaring at me (mind you, its Jan 3rd 60 degrees). She proceeded to go back out and report my car plates to the police which I found out from multiple bystanders who had watched the whole thing and offered their phone numbers as witnesses of harrassment if it turned into anything. Anyways, The irony is that my dog is a service animal that I used to bring with me inside there until a lady said I couldn't bring dogs in. When I explained it was a service animal she looked at me and said that's not a service animal. I had the service card in my pocket but dont like causing a scene, so I leave her in my car at this VONS now to not make a hassle. Where I draw the line is Sidney calling the cops making problems when myself and all the others in the parking lot did not understand it. It stepped over to straight harrassing customers while shes on the clock. I get it, I'm passionate about dogs as well, but you dont start fake fires to put out, to be a hero. Especially at your place of business. The manager was very kind and understanding when I explained the situation. I just wanted people to know that if you run into a problem with Sidney trying to call cops on you, make sure you link up with bystanders and get numbers. 2 weeks ago I had an awful customer service experience, I would say the worst ever. After I have completed an online survey, no one reached out to me about the incident. Basically, cashier calculated my total wrong and refused to re-calculate, and embarrassed me in front of the whole long line of people. I like this store as a whole. I really do. This rating is solely for the deli department. The last 3 times that I have gone in, they have messed up my order!. This is not just a one time occurance or I would not have bothered putting out a review. I have been coming to this store for about 5 years. There were people in the deli a few years ago that were absolutely a joy to deal with. You could tell they liked their job. It feels like the people in the deli now hate their jobs. This Vons has almost everything! There is a Wells Fargo, Starbucks, Bakery, Sushi Bar, Deli, and even Panda Express. The store is very clean and well stocked. I haven't shopped for here groceries, but my job is near by and the store is convenient for me when I need to grab some lunch. My favorite is the sushi bar! The set up is really neat and the sushi is made fresh every day. I asked one of the chef's if they can customized a roll and with no hesitation she gladly did. She was very sweet. I like to come before the lunch rush because the store can get extremely busy, so try avoiding coming to this place around noon and enjoy your lunch or some shopping! read more

We had an unpleasant experience today. After my wife had paid for the items, the bagger would not let her take the items until she got her receipt. The checker; Mackenzie, idly stood by as he said that and didn't let go of the items regardless of her purchase going through. This could be taken discrimination as the bagger didn't greet her and would not let her take the items. He did however pleasantly greet the next customer. This isn't acceptable. Both the checker and bagger should be talked to so this doesn't occur again as this is unprofessional. Won't be coming to this store anymore and will be going to the one in Tamarack. read more

How can you rate a store zero stars? This store is terrible. The employees have no customer focus whatsoever. It's a beautiful store. But, they definitely need a new leader or manager. Love the pharmacy here! Jeremy is almost working and always does a great job helping me out. I know they're always busy, but whenever they see a customer, they always stop to come help them. I've watched customers yell and be so mean to the employees here and each time they handle the situation amazingly. They're so nice and patient with each and every customer. If you have more dollars than sense, this is where you should buy your groceries. I've lived across the street from this Vons for more than a decade and it is a classic example of how NOT to run a retail business. The lines are always comically long, and the union checkers must be in league to keep it thus. The new Albertsons just down the hill on the corner of El Camino Real and La Costa has better produce, (and every other department), and less friction checking out. Even though it's a longer walk, I usually prefer the La Costa Albertsons to this dark, unhappy place. read more

Went into this Vons todays and purchased a bouquet of flowers which were on sale. The cashier overcharged us a dollar and when I brought up the posted sale signed, she got all huffy. The bagger (who was really nice) grabbed the signed and brought back to show the checker. She got all pissy and gave us our dollar back and snapped at the bagger to remove the sign. I think customer service is really important and the teller there made me feel like an a-hole for bringing up the dollar. I will avoid this Vons. read more

I cannot tell you how frustrated I am with the Von's Pharmacy! They are extremely slow and seem to not really care. My latest issue: went to fill my sons prescriptino (recurring monthly) which they had filled 3 months prior to this issue. They took it upon themselves to change from Name brand to generic without event mentioning it to me. My son had a terrible reaction to the drug. Not to mention that my cost for the generic was $30 MORE than the name brand!! They did take care of it once the problem was brought to their attention but for me, it is too little too late. I am going to another pharmacy (Target) event though it is not as close to my home. The part that kills me is that a pharmacy is such an important part of a store (brings a bunch of customers in) and many retailers have figured out how important that recurring traffic is. Von's should get their act together and fix the pharmacy issues and start benefiting from the draw rather than suffering because of lack of performance. read more

Has anyone else experienced their shopping cart malfunctioning in the store? I had mine lock up on me when trying to enter last June resulting in sciatica and physical therapy...I saw it happening to others and Von's blamed the cart manufacturer who said Von's stopped using those carts. Then this January, I go to the von's by the mall and same thing happens tho now I have a rotator cuff impingement! BE careful!! Happened both times for me when I was trying to enter the store and everyone's giving me looks to move the cart! Von's wont even give me free groceries for all my pain and inconvenience:( Not a nice way to treat a loyal customer. And this having to go to customer service ever time a cashier overcharges U and having to WAIT for someone is awful too! read more
