This was my first time ever trying Vons Chicken, and it was yummy! My friends and I ended up sharing a half combo Honey Butter chicken, half combo Yangnyeom chicken, and a side of fries. Honey Butter Chicken - 4/5 I LOVE Honey Butter chips, so this was so amazing. They are so crispy and crunchy on the outside. The chicken is super moist too! I loved the Honey Butter powder they dusted all over it. It's pretty sweet though, and I got kind of tired of it after finishing it. But dang, it's still really good. I would get it again (but maybe after a small break from it). Yangnyeom Chicken - 3.75/5 We got the medium spicy level, and my friends found it to be too spicy. I thought it was alright, but my nose was running. I really liked the sauce. It was spicy, sticky, and delicious. I found that the sauce coated each chicken perfectly. I just wish that the chicken was a little crispier. Maybe the sauce made the outside a little soggy... But still pretty good! Fries - 3/5 They tasted like regular fries with a side of ketchup. It was not crispy at all and very soft in the middle. It was decent fries. I found that the drumsticks were HUGE! We got two half combos and that was plenty to feed three people. Tasty wings! The only downside is that they are pretty pricey compared to fire wings and bonchon. The drumsticks are pretty big tho. I usually like to get 2 half orders which allows me to choose 2 flavors. I recommend trying the crispy padak, yangnyum, and crispy fried chicken flavors I did not like the honey butter. The seasoning that they had on it tasted really weird and I didn't enjoy it. I've also tried the cheddar and that was surprisingly good. The crispy fried chicken flavor has a garlic soy glaze to it. came by this Vons with a hungry group a friends (4) and we were seated immediately at a corner booth in the back. this spot is a bit smaller than other locations I've been to (so keep that in mind if you've got a large party) but the staff was very attentive and brought us menus and water and took our order almost right away! we decided to get a full order of the honey butter chicken but half orders of the garlic padak chicken and the spicy chicken. we also got some mozzarella sticks and rice cakes as apps to share. the mozzarella sticks were exactly what you'd expect- cheesy hot and crispy. the rice cakes were my favorite! they were crispy on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside and not too spicy (we ordered mild). all of the chicken we ordered was VERY CRISPY! it came out hot and quickly and with a small side of pickled radish cubes. i think the overall favorite of our group was the honey butter chicken because it's sweet, salty, crunchy, and juicy on the inside although my personal favorite was the spicy chicken (medium spice). it was comparable to a nice saucy hot wing but with an asian zing. the garlic/padak chicken was good too but just lacked in comparison to the others- the sauce was almost like a gravy component on top whereas the honey butter chicken was more like a dry rub and the spicy chicken had more of a marinade vibe. ** PS: you can order the chicken boneless, a standard drumstick/wing mix (what we got), or just all drums or all wings tl;dr: a half portion is a great way to try more than one flavor! don't be scared to try the honey butter chicken at least once (it might surprise you)! read more

Came for the "KFC" (Korean fried chicken), but when we saw that they had ramen too, well, we had to get both...and more! We got the half order of garlic fried chicken ($15), tonkatsu ramen ($12), fried squid legs ($8), mozzarella sticks ($5), a small bottle of Sapporo ($5), and a CAN of Coke ($2.50). We loved the crispy, crunchy, perfectly fried chicken that was sauced with the perfect amount of melted garlic butter. Half order is 7 pieces (3 drumsticks/2 large drummettes/ 2 flats), which was just enough for the 2 of us to split, along with the rest of our food. The chicken was the first thing that came out the kitchen! It was prepared really fast, considering how busy they were. Maybe since we waited awhile when we first sat down for our server to take our order, she put a rush on our food? Anyways, 10 stars for the chicken! Can't wait to try some of the other flavors. Comes with 2 banchan (sides) of corn and pickled radish. The ramen was just ok for me. I've definitely had better (in flavor, presentation, and ingredients), so I'll stick to the chicken. The fried squid legs were small in portion for the price and fried a little harder than I prefer. The sriracha mayo dipping sauce was tasty. My boyfriend ordered the mozzarella sticks and was disappointed that they didn't have any marinara sauce to dip them in. LOL Our server was polite and efficient, but we waited a little too long for her to take our orders after being seated. They do not have a soda fountain machine, so all drinks are in cans or bottles. Sucks that you can't just get a glass of free water. If I would've known that a CAN of Coke was $2.50, probably would have just gotten another beer. Hopefully they get a soda fountain soon or adjust those prices. If not, this will have to be takeout for the chicken only! A whole order of chicken is about $27, which seems pricey (like $2.50 for a can of Coke), but unlike the can of Coke....worth every penny! read more

Mediocre is the description here. Since different fried chicken dishes are their claim to fame, each offering should be amazing. The "B" Crispy Chicken is pretty good...hot, crisp and not oily. I would say, stay away from the Honey Butter monstrosity. It comes out and once placed on our table, we're hit with a fake, artificial smell. The white powder covering the top of the chicken tastes like a coffee creamer, mixed with sugar and fake powdered butter you'd put on popcorn. It's just GROSS. We also ordered Bibimbap, since they don't offer rice or BanChan dishes. Figured the Bibimbap would give us an idea of their other flavors. I'd say things are on the tart side and NOT well seasoned. They do not provide water, so you must buy Costco bottled water. Their service isn't that great either. Vons Chicken is probably the best Korean fried chicken in the area because of the variety of flavors/preparation they have and the batter is SUPER crunchy and crispy. Apparently Vons is also a popular chain in South Korea. If you like Bonchon, you'll probably love Vons even more. I love that they have the honey butter flavor because it's so unique, and their garlic soy glaze is delicious (very garlicky). They have 3 levels of spiciness for the garlic soy glaze - mild, medium, and spicy, and medium was just perfect. My friend and I shared a half order of crispy chicken and had the honey butter and garlic soy glaze on the side. The half order came with a small side of pickled radish and corn salad. All of the food was so fresh! The chicken came out very hot, and we had to wait maybe 15 minutes for it to cool down to a comfortable warm temperature to eat. Besides chicken, they also sell ramen, which many people seemed to be ordering despite the warm weather! Service was very friendly! Because I requested for the flavors on the side, there was a little confusion at first, but the server was incredibly patient and accommodated our order! If you ask for flavors on the side there might be a small additional fee. Another note, keep in mind they are currently hiring, and it looks like they had maybe 3 or 4 people working in the kitchen on a pretty busy Sunday during lunch time. We did have to wait about 15-20 minutes for our order (didn't check the exact time but it was a bit of a wait...still totally worth it). This Von's chicken location isn't nearly as good as the location on Folsom Blvd. The chicken is smaller, not nearly as fresh, and the portions are a fraction the size. The drumsticks and wings are somewhat similar, apart from the portion being smaller. The boneless is when the largest drop off in quality happens. The boneless at the Folsom Blvd are crispy and juicy throughout while at this location is seems that the boneless was prepared a day or so before and the are less generous on the sauce. If you had a bad experience here I recommend going to the Folsom location and giving it another chance because seriously they get Korean fried chicken right. read more

When I questioned them about the bill, I was told that beef and chicken were the same price. I specifically remember the menu pricing, and I didn't want to make a stink. So I slammed the pen ever so gently on the TIP line where I wrote a generous $0.00. Sir, please don't make the crazy come out on me. You could have gotten a pretty good tip without lying to me about pricing. I always tip 25-30% of my order unless service is a total disaster. When you lie to me, that number goes down to 0-5%. Picked up some Vons the other night because I wanted friend chicken and I love Korean style fried chicken. They were doing indoor and outdoor seating as well as takeaway when I arrived. I could tell they were taking cleaning and pandemic rules seriously, which is much appreciated. I ordered a half order of the crunch fried chicken, a whole order of the Yangyum chicken, multiple sides of the pickled radish & rice & kimchi. Took them 20 minutes to prepare which I took as a good sign because that means they were making the chicken fresh to order. The hostess walked out our order when I came back to pick it up and she was very nice. She even included some small sides of Korean corn cheese and pickled radish for free! The packaging of the chicken was awesome. They had vented the tops of the chicken baskets so the steam didn't ruin the crispiness. Took me about 10-15minutes to drive the food home so I was a bit worried about the crispiness. For the crispy chicken, it was still perfect. The chicken was flavorful and juicy. No black bones so the chicken had all the signs of being fresh. Totally delicious. The sauce for the yangyum was awesome. A bit sweet, sticky, and I believe hints of allspice. This chicken was pretty marinated in the sauce so maybe next time I ordered to go, I'd ask for the sauce on the side. But the chicken was still awesome and it makes me really want to come back and eat it there. The sides were all really solid. The rice was well done. Overall, I really liked the food and I would not hesitate to come back.
