One thing I learned today is that not all Vons stores are a like. I came to this location today because I was in the area. I usually go to the Vons located on the south end of Avocado Blvd. because it is close to home. These to stores are on a few miles apart bot on Avocado Blvd. I picked up some of my favorite frozen entrees made by Eat Right, a Vons spin off, because with their coupon I was able to get them for $1.69 each. (see pic) In addition to the great price, they are very good. I prefer them to the Lean Cuisine brand. They had all my favorites in stock. I also came to pick up some Mission Artisan tortillas that are a 50/50 mix of corn and whole wheat. Unfortunately, they did not even carry these tortillas. Weird, because the Vons just 2 miles up the hill carries a variety of Mission Artisan tortillas. Perhaps they tailor to their client tell. I had to stop by the other Vons on my way home to pick up the tortillas. I noticed that the employees at this location were not, how should of put it, not as blissful as the location near my home. Von's cashier going racists now. A Filipino older lady called me illegal, (Elder Filipino woman about 5'0 by the name Fergie, or close to that) As I was paying for my groceries, I was struggling to pay due to my frozen credit cards, as I had gotten a new phone for my birthday and was unable to log in for the first time to unfreeze them, so my wife who was next to me, had to let me borrow hers. Another customer from another checkout stand made a smart remark to my cashier, saying, "what are you doing? "Checking for drugs? , which I did not care as I knew he was joking. However, my cashier replied to that customer, "you know these wet backs", thinking that I would not understand her. I told the Filipino lady, I know lots of illegal Filipinos, and she immediately responded, that's not what I meant to say, giving herself away, as nothing else was said. I ran into the other customer outside and he looked embarrassed, and we said our goodbyes, as civilized people. So I went back into the store, and I spoke with a Supervisor, Tyler I believe, tall young slim African American male, who was very professional, and stated I should contact the manager in the morning. This has been our go to store for 17 years. The people that work at this store have gone from friendly customer service representatives to miserable employees. The management of this store has gone down the tubes. I'd guess that corporate is calling the shots and cutting hours. Employees are upset about fewer hours and have to deal with complaining customers. Yesterday, there were only THREE lines open. There were about fifty people in line. I bailed. Trader Joe's has all of their lines open, about eight, and the wait is about five minutes. And, their employees are all smiles. It's hard to believe that people continue to stand in line at Vons. And shame on Vons for cutting hours instead of improving the product. read more

Not a great store but the worst customer service time Ive ever experienced. Every time I visit the hot deli, they have 3 to 4 employees making sandwiches and chicken, but they NEVER acknowledge you. Today myself and 7 other customers were kept waiting nearly 10 minutes (the poor woman ahead of me was 80+ and clearly in pain standing there) before anyone asked us for assistance. It was shocking to me that making sandwiches for your display would take priority over helping people trying to give you money. The cashiers personalities are dry AF, they look like they take it personal you got in their line. Your absolutely awful Vons. I wish I could give you zero stars. read more

This has been my Vons for 23 years and I understand that the pandemic has changed the way business is run, but it had been fine waiting in line most of the shutdown but for some reason, the store has changed it to one long line of customers waiting and there is NO quick checkout for 20 or less items, so a person with one item has to wait alongside (and too close) to the customer with a cart full of items. There is not self check-out either. The last three times I have come in to buy a few things, I have left immediately after seeing the long lines going up the greeting card aisle. It just doesn't make sense to not have at least one express lane opened up for those of us need it. Until this way of waiting for the check out lanes is rerouted and/or express lane opens up, I will not be coming back. read more

I placed an order for my 100 year old parents since they are not supposed to leave the house. They gave me a date of a week away from ordering and it's normally the next day, but i understand due to the virus situation. Then on the day before the order was supposed to arrive, I get an email saying the order has been cancelled and they recommend we place another order at another time. My parents live in their own home and now no food for them is arriving. I understand if they say a couple items can't be delivered or we need another day or two as we are understanding to the situation, but to just cancel the entire order seems a bit unprofessional and non caring. I hear others are delivering as they don't want people in the stores. Not sure what to do now to get food to my parents, but I know we won't be going back to Vons, where my mom has shopped for 40 years. Very disappointing. read more

I stop at this Vons every time I go to El Cajon Cemetary to visit my parents' graves. The ladies in the florist dept are always incredibly kind and helpful to me. They trim the flowers to fit in a special vase and make sure the arrangement is perfect. Today, Kari did an exceptional job. I really appreciate the great service and kindness. I love this Vons. I don't know why there are so many negative reviews. Everyone is friendly and helpful. Sure there's not usually more than a line or two open but that's like every store. If you can't find a cart they are probably in the parking lot. ‍ Go back to the old days where you took them from someone that no longer needed them or one thats next to your car. Grow up. It's time to lay Vons to rest. I mean seriously, Vons. You had your run. It's enough already. With the abundance of excellent grocery experiences available, I'm not sure why anyone would willfully patronize this location or any Vons location for that matter. The interior is dimly lit and depressing which is fitting given that Vons is the mortuary of the grocery world anyway. The curmudgeonly and mostly geriatric staff are clearly going through the motions as best their arthritic joints will allow. I feel like there should be an ambulance stationed outside at all times just to be safe. The lines are somehow quite long even though there isn't much of a clientele to speak of. Most checkout lanes are closed and there isn't a self checkout at all. Cmon now, Vons. It's 2019. I halfway expected a designated smoking area complete with pay phones and a calling card kiosk. I've always been fascinated by time travel but if doing so means you can only go to the mid 90s and you have to do it in the most tragic grocery store around then I'll pass. read more

The night manger with the gray long hair is so unprofessional. she was being so rude to a employee i then ask her a question and she yelled at me. later she went up to me and in a rude way said what did u want. she scared me. I went to vons again tonight with my husband so she was the cashier so she saw me with my husband and was being condescending and just plain mean. " The Von's Bathroom Was Gross " I went to the Von's Store in El Cajon on Avocado Ave. and had to go to their bathroom. Once I punched in the code and opened the door I was very surprised. The Bathroom was so dirty, filthy, greasy and GROSS ! the floor had dirt everywhere. It did not look like it had been cleaned forever. There were no paper towels and the soap. And the water did not even work. The toilet had pee stains all over the floor around it. And the other gender neutral bathroom had a sign on it saying it was " Out of Service ". This was one of the dirtiest Bathrooms I have ever seen. I have seen way cleaner bathrooms all over the world, even in low end countries, much better than This Von's Bathroom. I read some reviews about the deli portion being great. It was my first time going to this vons. I'm a regular vons goer and loved there breakfast burritos. Here are some of the pros and cons. Pro: they have delicious breakfast burritos for only 2.99 w/o tax. They notice if you are waiting. I waited for only 1 min. Before someone saw me and greeted me. Place is super clean. Con: I'm a stickler because I used to get breakfast burritos every Friday morning in LA. My deli person seemed like she was in a hurry... Didn't really take her time and wrap it correctly. So when I opened my burrito all I got was the ends. Either way it's delicious. I did ask her to cut it, which I think they are normally supposed to do and she just chopped it all messy not organized. I'm not sure if she was new but since my friend used to work at vons and I've gotten this burrito almost every week for a year. I think I can have some say. Anyways A+ for service. This is the best Vons I have ever been to! Hands down! Its very clean and always have the best of the best products! I always go in and buy their navel oranges which are the best I can find in the area,...Sprouts and Trader Joes doesnt compare! I LOVE their floral department and its always well stocked on Debbi Lily items, which I love and use to decorate around my home. Their deli department has some great stuff and I always get my lunch meat from them! Employees have always been nice to me and the lines arent usually very long. Its always quite cool inside the store and parking is awesome! Prices are a tad expensive but you want quality you got to pay for it! The line situation here is absolutely ridiculous. They have a long line down the card aisle and only two registers open. No express line for this who need it so if you have one item you have wait to wait in a ridiculously long line. I have seen no other grocery stores in the area run like this. Wow I'm absolutely shocked by how shitty the customer service is in this store. I walked in to buy some milk and I didn't see that there was a line of people waiting. As I was approaching the register, the guy that works there (cashier) said, "uh uh go back in line" ( shaking his head and hands). I said, "I'm sorry?" He the said, " no uh uh go back in line" in the rudest tone possible. Could it possibly occur to him that I really didn't see a line there? Do not go here unless you want to spend half of your time looking for a shopping cart or waiting for somebody to be done with their shopping cart. They have like 10 shopping carts for the whole damn store. I have gone a few times at 10 am, store is not busy at all, and there were zero shopping carts available each time. So unless you are going their to buy only enough to fit in a basket, I would save your time and go give somebody else your business. This store can get busy at times because there aren't a lot of major grocery store options in the area. One thing I absolutely just love and that motivated me to review: They just implemented a 1 line system which I think is fantastic. No more regretting your line choice as someone figures out their EBT situation or writes a check. Sure it might look daunting at first because you're in 1 long line, but it moves quickly. Currently in line at Vons on Avocado. I'm 9 people back in the shortest line. Seems like it's always this way between 4 and 6 everyday, but they refuse to staff up. I love that I stare at a 3s a crowd sign the entire time. Yes, we know 3s a crowd, why can't we do something about it?? The Vons on Avocado Blvd in El Cajon CA is hands down the worst Vons, Safeway Albertsons I have ever been to. I have lived up the street for 23 years and I only go in there because of it's location. As of tonight I will never set foot in there again. The store is dirty, poorly stocked and customer service is non-existent.Tonight I stop to get a few items as I was in a hurry, (first mistake). I find my items and go to the only checkout that was operational. There is a line. There is one checker, and one bagger.i finally get up to be the next person to put my items on the dirty conveyor belt the checker come out and says I am blocking the isle very rudely. I say I am inside of the end cP and if you opened another check stand I would not. I did not get his name but he had long hair and a very thin mustache. I said have a nice night and left my cart there, and walked out of the store. The last straw. I have never written a negative review before. read more

This is an okay location. Adam and I aren't huge fans of Vons but this one isn't too bad. It is in a shopping plaza so you can get all sorts of shopping done when you come here which is helpful. Adam and I don't love Vons because we just feel like it is blah. The aisles are always small and in need of stocking and it always seems to dirty or run downs. The staff also isn't my favorite. It is rare that I feel like I come across incredibly friendly staff at Vons. Overall, an eh store especially if Vons isn't your top pick. read more

This review is solely based on their employees. This place is horrible. As I was looking to cashing out there were a couple of registrars that had their lights on but no one there. Another employee called out to the female clerk to attend to her place. She came back with an attitude to that person and was not happy ringing me up! I don't understand! You're on the clock! What is there to be so angry about??! I had 10 items and the person she gave an attitude to had multiple people waiting in his line! I don't blame the guy at all! I have chronic pain and chronic fatigue. There is an ***hole employee that acuses me of faking my disability when I use the motorized cart. This has happened a few times and today I got so flustered seeing him that I forgot to check the battery power and the cart got stuck in the middle of the store. I barely made it back to my car. This was frustrating and embarrassing. He's asked for proof before. Here's why that's dumb: 1. My medical history is none of your business. 2. I'm certainly not going to share it with someone who is an ***hole. 3. Do you ask eldery people for proof or do you hate old people too? 4. Have you ever gone to the doctor in your life? The healthcare system is deteriorating. If you want proof find me some ****ing specialists and drive me to my god **** appointments. I can easily give you cold calling instructions for 2 hours worth of healthcare related phone calls per day. 5. WHAT THE **** IS THE POINT OF HAVING MOTORIZED CARTS IF DISABLED PEOPLE CANT USE THEM? There is no holy person with the most ****ed up health issues that's going to descend upon Vons to use two motorized carts at the same time as someone else. Let's be real they died a long time before they got their doctors appointment. If you have an actual concern CHARGE THE ****ING CART. No one was using it when I sat down. 6. People that fake disabilities are so rare that there is no collectable data on it. Why is your first assumption that an infinitesimally rare situation is happening? Feel free to criticize me the next time you get struck by lightning before your shift. I normally don't go to this Vons but ended up going cause someone else was driving. Have you guys gone inside your local Vons grocery store lately??? Vons has come up these days, doing really big things. I used to cringe at the thought of going into one of the major local grocery stores... I now can not wait until I run out of produce and meat. Vons clearly was being operated by Meth addicts from El Cajon, until being treated to an extreme home makeover. I swear. This place has a warm, cozy, comfortable and country theme to it. It makes you feel like you are living in a different, more innocent time.... when people did not lock doors to their homes and vehicles. Everyone knows each others name. You have a wife and three children at home waiting for their Pa to bring home food for supper while your moonshine is fermenting on the porch. The flooring has been modified. There are lots of dark browns and earth tones. Vons used to have bright white floors and bright lights, like a hospital. Whenever I feel stressed out lately, I consider going to Vons to take a nice stroll and think about the finer things in life..... such as the amazing glass-cased liquor cabinet that all Vons stores now have.... fully loaded with only the finest Scotches.
