We in Fresno have a mask mandate, but several people in the store were not wearing masks and the store was not enforcing the policy. With Covid on the rise in Fresno I will not be shopping in any store that does not require customers to wear the mask. read more

In my imagination if whole foods and save mart had babies the result would be Von's. Von's is a premium priced groceries for sure, so thrift shopper this is not your place, because expect $.50-$2 more per item in comparison to other groceries in town. But if your looking for a nice groceries that is clean, the price doesn't really matter to you, while all you need is high quality fresh groceries for that gourmet dinner tonight, this is the place for you. They also have the online grocery order option with delivery -try it free with a promo code on their website. The highlight of my visit was finding an in store Starbucks and also a Panda Express within the store, plus they also have their hot meals area, and fresh baker section in store too. Its not that Im fascinated by those chains at all, but having them in store is news to me. They also have an in store florist- kinda expensive but very fancy and specialized, and the orchids collection is amazing, but expect to pay $25 or more for them, also they have a meat market with a butcher and a seafood market. I was also surprised to find lamb leg here like at costco for only $1-$2 more, and through my experience all their meats, poultry and seafood is artisanal and fresh, I haven't had a problem yet with freshness. Their fresh vegetables and fruits area is huge and I mean huge, with a vast selection of western/american vegetables- there is even a section for kale only (you won't find much asian vegetables here, as much as you can find at asian stores of course, but everything else you are good) , with the added value of their produce promise - you can return and get a refund for their produce if you did not find the fresh. I was very fascinated to find the kind of carrots I could find at farmers market, the ones with the carrot greens and skinny looking kind. They also have a fridge full of fresh artisanal pressed juice, the one that actually taste great! They also have a complete pharmacy and offers the same things that most grocery store in Fresno offers, and their aisle is not too narrow, but not wide either. I actually like Vons as a grocery store. The only negative would be the lack of self checkout lanes, but their checkout is not too bad, and while their staff is not amazing they also aren't rude or anything. The only other negative would be their ugly carts, I wish they would use a smart cart, or some kind of unique looking carts. But overall great grocery shopping experience. read more

It would probably be more like 3 1/2 stars, but I round up. It's a very clean store, (which Vons isn't though). Good selection of meat and produce. They are not always the cheapest but most of the time great quality. I do however have an issue with the clerks. There are only a handful at the checkout that are nice. All the rest are cold, or impatient. NOT COOL! And the ladies at the deli are rarely there when I need them, so I end up looking like a meanie yelling in the back, "HELLO back there could I get some cheese" I would recommend going to the Vons on First and Nees. It's been many light years since high school graduation and college entrance exams, but for those of you who don't get it : Vons is equivalent to Safeway? Owned by the same company? Maybe? The layout is practically the same. I had no problem navigating my way through the store. The familiarity was very comforting and reminded me of home. The "just for U" coupon deals are the same as well. The price points were just as similarly on the expensive side. Which I didn't mind because I usually go in for things I really need. I wouldn't go full on grocery shopping here. My problem with this Vons Location: Product Variety and Product Availability. 1. There was only one package of chicken breast left in the Chicken Freezer aisle and no one restocking items, nor was a butcher available at the fresh meat deli counter. I called out for someone hoping they'd be hiding out in the back, but no one was there. I even took a lap hoping they'd put more chicken breast out, but nada! 2. The steak: I thought I was in the middle of farm country. The cuts of steak were super thin. And my biggest qualm: Brown meat!!! For real though?? Old steaks? Are you even allowed to sell them like that? Maybe that part of the freezer needs to be checked or something? I wanted to grill up some steaks for dinner but I couldn't find a cut or fresh meat to my liking. And again, no customer service rep to be found :( 3. They didn't have any Fig Preserves/Fig Jam. Vons only caries the typical berry/apricot/marmalade preserves or jam. I found this to be frustrating because I decided to just have a cheese plate and cured meats for dinner with a nice bottle of wine and fig preserves accompany this meal best. Went in for fried chicken at the deli! The cashier guy was talking/flirting with a girl customer forever. When he finally got back to work he says who is next. If I wouldn't spoke up and other customers would have went first. The other customers waiting give me a dirty look like I should just let them line skip, maybe cause they were females are or it's just there race. The fried chickens 4 stars, but customer service was horrible! I hope after all that flirting he got her number, he's probably has a wife at home. read more

I love VONS. Like LOVE VONS. I was so sad when I moved away from the sunnyside location and now the closest location is 7 miles away. They always have amazing deals and living close meant my boyfriend bought me flowers all the time because they're inexpensive. Anyways, to the point. I understand that it's a global pandemic or whatever but they were so understocked here today! As of late any grocery store I go to is usually out of hand sanitizer and toilet paper but this one was out of a bunch of veggies and even chicken breasts. I went out of my way today to grab my favorites (and monopoly tickets) and it was a bit of a let down. BUT I was able to grab a good deli sandwich and some of my favorite pasta salad which I can't find anywhere else so there's a plus. Maybe I just came the day before restock? Pros: Its a very nice clean store. Amazing selections. I live right down the street and it's very convenient. Cons: The customer service isn't all that great. For example, there's this big blond lady that cashiers often and always ALWAYS has a nasty attitude. She always looks mad. Never once said hi to me or greeted me when ringing me up. We watched Leanne take money out of her own wallet to pay the rest of the sweet elderly woman's bill as the lady did not have enough money. She was also very kind to us during our transaction. REVIEW IS FOR GRAB & GO SERVICE ONLY (1st time experience) Order: lobster, steak, and butter Received: only butter I went to pick up my order after I received the text that my order was ready for pick up. After waiting about 10 to 15 minutes, a worker came to my car and said that they only have the butter. So, technically MY ORDER WASN'T READY FOR PICK UP. I asked for a refund and she said okay. I left the parking lot a little confused because I had forgot to ask how I was going to my refund and the receipt of my refund. The worker called me that she refunded the butter. I asked if I was going to get a copy of the receipt via email and she said no but I can get a chard copy. So, I drive back to get the hard copy. WHAT A WASTE OF MY TIME. Safeway(VONS) need to upgrade their "pick up and go" operations. If they can't fulfill an entire order than as least contact the customer. WORST VONS! WORST EXPERIENCE! BOB AND PATRICIA ARE ABSOLUTELY RUDE! My family and I shop at Vons frequently, frequently as in a few times a week. I usually go to the Vons closest to my house, but was leaving the car wash so out of convenience I went to that one. Now I have severe back problems, I'm awaiting surgery. It's hard for me to even do daily tasks. The car wash and getting a few groceries is like a trip to Disneyland for me. Now I'm only 32 so it doesn't look like I should have back problems. So I'm use to people being annoyed or confused at how slow I'm walking or when I'm in the way. But my experience today was absolutely heartless and so completely rude. As I was checking out I did the self checkout because it's easier for me to grab the scanner and click items. Instead of lifting them out of my cart or standing in the atrocious lines. Well the self scanner dinged me as "possibly stealing". Well if you look at the video and the scanned items on the screen you will see i am clearly not stealing. This is not my first time dealing with this problem. Normally at stores the assistant watches the video looks at the item and realizes the machine was wrong. Well, Patricia came to help me today. Which it first I was thankful to get help, I'm in severe back pain and ready to get out of there. I was in so much pain I couldn't stand any longer and had to sit on the self checkout. Well Patricia was in no way helpful. Told me that she has to empty all my stuff out and restart. In which she started emptying all my stuff out of my bags. I told her to never mind that I will go through the checkout lane. I don't have time for her to empty all my stuff and do the self checkout (my kids were riding the bus home from Granite ridge so I was trying to beat them home to unlock the door) In Which she continued to empty my bags out. Shot me a dirty look when I tried to put my bag of groceries in there. Like she did NOT want me to touch my groceries. (Very weird). So I continued to sit there as she emptied my groceries. When she finished, I asked for an electric chair so I can at least sit in it while I'm waiting in the lines. I can't stand for long periods of time and already in severe pain just from the shopping. She points to them so I start pushing my cart that way, which by the way I use as a crutch at the end of grocery shopping because the pain is so bad. She would not let me take my cart with me to the chair! She accused me of trying to steal the cart! So as I'm in tears, in pain, confused as to why I'm even being treated this way. I pushed the cart into a random line, asked a lady to watch my cart. Hobbled over to the electric cart asking for help because I have no idea how to use this thing. As soon as I sit down I just call my mom in tears, completely confused! The employees were completely rude, snickering, no apologies, I felt just so embarrassed and low. As if I'm not already feeling low enough being a 32 year old single mom with a back disability. Im just so blown away at how unprofessional this store is! The clerk who rang my groceries wouldn't say a word. The guy who helped me out kept his distance and didn't say a word. There was just no customer service! I felt like a criminal! I have a disability! I need help! I'm 5'2 120 pounds and can hardly push a cart! The manager BOB LAGLE is even more unprofessional and rude! My parents called the store upset since that is the Vons THEY frequent. Well Bob the manager couldn't address anything, apologize or give a name for anyone higher. Absolutely unprofessional and I'm unsure how he is in a managerial position. Bob the manager then decided to HANG UP when my parents asked him to listen to what had happened to me. YES! He hung up! I've never heard of such a thing! So I called the store back PATRICIA answered, when I asked for Bob the manager she sent me to the Starbucks phone line instead. Thanks Patricia! In which I told them I was supposed to be sent to the manager, they then hung up on me. I called back again, in which I have him take my name and number so his boss can contact me. But by how unprofessional the staff is I'm doubting that will even happen. I'm absolutely appalled at it all! During all of this I'm in severe back pain, in tears, wanting to escape the store so I can get into a comfortable position. I'm not on any pain meds just dealing. Something needs to be done so the next time someone with a disability or an elderly person who is struggling GETS HELP! THATS CUSTOMER SERVICE! BOB LAGLE SHOULD NOT BE A MANAGER. Vons on Cedar and Shepherd is awesome. From the home delivery to having Amazon mailboxes available. I also love the wonderful roses they sell. Each color is gorgeous. The staff is also friendly too and are willing to help if you have a question. read more

Just spent 200 bucks at this store. Was barely acknowledged as I put my groceries on the conveyor. The clerk was having a conversation about her schedule with another employee, which I really couldn't care less about. Pretty much had to bag my own groceries. Totally loaded my own cart. Was never told thank you. I spend a ton of money with these clowns. It was like all the coldness and self service of Food 4 Less with out the good prices. The employees always seem preoccupied. I really like this Vons location. The shopping center is awesome and includes great hand car wash, dog grooming salon, Bank of America and two Starbucks locations and many others. The store is clean and mediums sized. The baked food section and deli section are greasy size and include quite a bit of variety including delicious store made turkey. Two things I don't like about this Vons. One: the female workers are just a little too friendly for my taste. My husband and I are "different" meaning we are interracial and there is an age gap. So if we are standing two feet away from each other, people would not think we were a couple. That being said, we were at the deli and my husband had flowers (for me) in the cart and the worker looked at my husband and said "Nice flowers, are those for me?" Before my husband could shut her down, I said "His WIFE might not appreciate that." She looked at me shocked and immediately got back to work. We get to the cashier to pay and the cashier says to my husband, "Nice flowers, are those for me?" My husband laughed and said "the lady at the deli just asked the same thing." Before the cashier could respond, I spoke up and said (again) "HIS WIFE MIGHT NOT APPRECIATE THAT!". She had the audacity to continue by saying "Your wife wouldn't mind if you tipped out sometimes, would she?" I said "Hell yes, she'd mind!! I don't play that!!" She continued by looking directly at my husband saying "you know you want to tip out on your wife, don't you?" Shocked, my husband said "Nope, I'm the happiest I've ever been in my whole life." Then finally she shut her unprofessional mouth. The other thing is they are not Covid compliance. Fresno's gone through a slew of companies; Alpha Beta, Lucky, Albertsons, Safeway, since it's in the middle of the state, you chains from both North and South. I guess Safeway eventually ended up owning Vons but kept the brand around. With the upscaling of their ops it's nice to have a fully stocked mega grocer around. read more

The best day to shop at Vons is clearly on Fridays ($ - Five dollar Fridays)!!!! :) Check the weekly newspapers to see the Friday specials - We usually get the paper delivered to us on Wednesday, which is when I compare the sales of all the grocery stores (Vons, Savemart, Sprouts, Vallarta (best place to get veggies), etc. - make sure you do this because every store really does have their pros and cons in certain items). They usually have a great deal on cuts of meat (last Friday they had top sirloin for only $5/lb). Also, the butchers at Vons are super friendly. If you see a package you like, and would like to add or remove a steak, they will to do and have it rewrapped for you!! The meat is also fresh and well priced! But anyways, yes to Fridays at Vons because really thats when they have the best deals on a variety of items! Also, make sure you download the Safeway app (Vons and safeway are under the same company). There are also great deals and even free offers. Last week, I got a free package of fresh Rana pasta and sauce (total value of $10 for free)!! They also often have coupons like $5 off $25 or $10 off of $50 purchases in this app! Lastly, look for the red tags in the store - You can mix and match those items to save money when you buy a total of 4 red tag items (i find the best deals are usually chips / cereals) with this bundle! read more

Worst customer service ever! The people are rude, short tempered and unprofessional. Question: What's the point of setting rules for a store that the employees don't follow? On two occasions I've seen people in their without a mask. One lady was walking around with her hand over her mouth, then she proceeded to pick up items from the shelf with her contaminated hand...gross!! The "one way" markings on the floor are helpful to maintain social distancing, yet every time I go in there I'm walking the correct direction, but comes a Vons employee filling an online order coming directly at me. It's not that big of a deal, but why try to enforce something the employees don't take seriously. I had voiced a concern for product quality and I was abruptly belittled and dismissed. Their product quality suffers from their poor rotation of stock, I have purchased many dated/spoiled items here. This is the local Vons in my area. A general observation about almost every Vons since the strikes back in '99-'00. They, as a company, have embraced customer service as their focus. Without exception, every employee who notices me asks me how I am, whether I need help finding anything, etc. And, if I do have a question, that specific employee walks me to the area. They don't pass me off. This Vons is no exception. Managers are friendly and talkative, and the specialty employees (deli, butcher, etc.) follow the same mold. Employees on the floor are receptive and helpful. If they don't know, they find someone who does ASAP. Cashiers are regulars, and they get to know you quickly. This particular Vons knows competition is coming fast with the nearby Lassen's, Trader Joe's coming in nearby. As a result, their fresh and organic sections satisfy my basic needs. Those "other" options HAVE become specialty runs only. Pricing is comparable to the NE area. Get your Vons card and the prices become almost equal. Decent floral area for emergency purposes. Very nice employee who can help you create a bouquet. Deli counter has fun choices, including an Americanized version of a samosa. (Veggie version is best). Bakery has fun cakes, cookies, etc. When the bagels and bread is fresh, price is decent. Butcher has fun and varied options. Watch for sales on lobster tails. Excellent supermarket that is doing well adapting to the times. Keep at it. read more

I'm addicted to this store. I love the way it's organized and their prices are okay. It's expensive unless you FIND the good prices. Some things are cheaper here than other places and vise versa, you just have to be a smart shopper. Their bakery is the BEST!! Cookies are YUM (except their classic choc chip). I appreciate the little items here and there that aren't sold anywhere else! So many times where I almost ordered a food online before checking Vons and then discovering that they had it and for the SAME EXACT PRICE. Worst customer service at the Deli section!! I asked for a sandwich and the lady with short white hair did not wash her hands nor wore gloves when she prepared my sandwich. Also she was wearing rings on almost every finger. I became really ill from eating that sandwich and this is why I am writing this review. There are poor sanitation practices especially during such a sensitive time with the corona virus outbreak and flue season. This experience conveys exactly how negligent, irresponsible and cruel these employees are to the general public. Changes need to be made. I've been shopping here for a few years and I've watched this store slowly go downhill in service and friendliness. Bums are allowed to hang out front and harass customers. Management doesn't seem to care much about anything any more. Last night was another indication of the lessening of standards. Now I might upset some with my comments and opinion but here it goes. The clerk, a male about 25 years old had large tattoos on his neck and as well as his arms. He wasn't friendly at all and looked like he hadn't slept for three days. His pants were halfway down and not once said hello how are you or thank you or anything like that. Went to starbucks nearby in the same complex. They ran out of passion tea & so I came into this Vons to the starbucks inside. And the girl made my drink and left it on the other side of the counter. Total opposite of where I was waiting for it. I was sitting there and she obviously wasn't serving anyone else. Also it was only me sitting there... So I'm sure she saw me sitting there. However neglected to tell me my drink was done. And continued to clean the counter where I was sitting. Can I say rude? employees are very rude. I've had multiple awful awful experiences with an older lady who has long grey hair. very unkind. the staff is dismissive when you go to them with problems. they just want you to be quiet. I was accused of shoplifting, and told to "put back what I took". I didn't take anything so I was confused and startled. I explained to the lady I mentioned above and she very condescendingly said "okay bye bye" I was so frustrated that she didn't believe me. I went up to her as she was accusing me at a distance, and I was explaining to her that my Celsius drink I brought in, was from home. She wouldn't speak to me respectfully and was just saying "okay okay". I know I shouldn't have brought in my drink, but I was trying to finish it. I just wish she would have acknowledged that I'm not a criminal and didn't steal. This was the most embarrassing thing I have ever experienced. She treated me like a criminal and I felt as if she was trying to embarrass me. I had tears in my eyes. There were many other people around too, but everyone stayed quiet. Whenever you walk into a Von's you see excellence. They have employees every where! That's a good thing for us customers too. And when I'm in need of great flowers at a great price I go to Von's. They're just as beautiful as a Florist or Whole Foods! This Von's has a Panda Express and a very nice bakery. The people at the seafood department are always eager and friendly to serve and there is always more than one person there. The check out lines are never long and services very prompt. Bakery needs to improve. A lot. I ordered a certain cake and they made a cake that was COMPLETELY different than what I ordered. Instead of receiving a beautifully decorated cake, they just made a plain white frosted vanilla cake....which was terribly embarrassing to bring at the birthday party because it was honestly ugly. They offered it half price, which in my mind should be for FREE, since it wasn't even what I ordered. The other time before this, my mother placed an order for a cake. Guess what, they didn't even make it when she came and picked it up. Such a shame, because their actual cakes are delicious. And I will say that *some* are the workers at the bakery were very kind. But it's not worth putting myself in jeopardy for yet another devastating cake-less party. I just hope that the store manager (who still charged me for the cake) actually followed through on his "promise" to talk to the Baking Department. read more

This Vons Bakery is the absolute best! Their cakes are not just wonderful tasting and moist but they always decorate my cakes just like I request. I really wanted a Fresno State Bulldog cake but they do not have that available, but they found a way to accommodate me. I just took them the edible image, and Sara their cake decorator put together a beautiful cake for my son's graduation party. I have been ordering cakes here for the past 4 years, and I will continue to do so. read more

I decided to give self checkout a try to avoid waiting in line and the employee, ashely I believe she said her name was, helping that area was wonderful. Ok it's not this Vons but it for the Vons off of Herndon and Fowler. Excellent customer service compared to the other Vons in the Fresno/Clovis area. I was at another Bons location to get the 2 day deals and they sent me to another location. I went to the Clovis Vons off of Herndon and Fowler and they offered me rain checks plus gave me additional discounts and sold me items for the sale that was suppose to be the next day. I was so pleased with the customer service that I will go back to this Vons regardless it's out of my way. Thank you to the manager that is so customer oriented and did not make anything difficult for my inquiries. He even told me they will take other Vons rain checks but that he wasn't sure if other Vons would take his store rain checks. By far the best experience I had at any grocery store.
