This is not my usual grocery store because I used to live by WinCo and now I live by Smart n Final. I guess I am a creature of convenience and habit. I still remember when this place was 24 hours. I recently needed a cake a day before my niece's 1st birthday party. I stopped by Frosted Cakery and they did not have anything. For some reason, I remembered that Food Maxx had a big selection of cake. I was going to get a premade cake, but saw that they had specialty cakes. I asked how far in advance would I need to order the cake. They said 24 hours, but gave me a 12 pm time instead which was perfect since my niece's birthday was at 5pm. I ordered the 505 Barnyard Animals 1/2 pan sheetcake with pink frosting. Pick up was farely easy. The Happy 1st birthday lettering was cute! Ada- I temporarily have a sprained ankle that is taking longer to heal than I would like and am currently in a cam walking boot so when I go to public places that require a lot of walking, I look for an electric scooter do I do not overwork my legs. They always have one that is charged and ready to go with a huge cart. I was able to use it when I had to pick up the huge cake by myself! The workers are constantly busy, but when they are free and I ask for help, they are more than willing. Definitely reccomended for cute cakes! It was only $40 bucks for a half sheet with custom photo. Cakes don't always have to be tiered or cost an arm and a leg. The marble sheet cake was good and the frosting was not too sweet. My childhood FoodMaxx I would come to as a little girl. The days were my family and I didn't have a car and my middle sister along with dad would walk to Foodmaxx so we could help dad carry the groceries back as we lived nearby. This location has CHANGED so much mostly with the exterior as they keep remodeling it. I remember I would always see my elementary school friends here with their parents and pretend I didn't see them haha and hide in the aisles. I would play, get lost, loved when dad would put me in the basket and rolled me around. When my family did get a car we would come here often. I was older and roll the basket for dad so he didn't have to do anything but pay. My sister and I would split the list up between us and race to see who would finish the list first while dad read the WHOLE book in the store haha The employees would change of course over the years and they changed the layout in the store. The food items use to be affordable back in the 1990s to 2010s but presently SO EXPENSIVE here. I don't shop here anymore as it's like on the level of Vons/Savemart these days. It use to be always crowded or packed but when I last went a few months ago it was so empty :( and dead. The fruit and vegetables looked very fresh, the store was clean and organized. It was like I had the place to myself. They have huge selections of alcohol and wine. Since I don't like in the area I don't really need to come here unless it's for my side hustle (personal shopper). Overall, cool supermarket for the neighborhood but I still prefer Winco. read more

My most recent trip to this location was quite the experience. And by far the best shopping experience I've had at this location. Not only did two separate employees assist me, one without needing to be asked, but the checkout was smooth, easy and quick. Multiple checkers were open so the lines were not long. They sanitize the shopping carts and offer hand sanitizer at checkout. They also have stickers on the ground in line to help while the appropriate distance between customers. Today's experience was the best yet here. I would typically give them a 3 star review as this was the first time employees asked if I needed assistance, and the lines can be very long without many checkers open making the wait time long, but today earned 5 stars no doubt. read more

I used food stamps this time when I came and I didn't know there was a code to put in for bags so I put zero when it asked. She Had a big attitude because I asked for 2 plastic bags. The extra attitude and dirty looks and body language is not needed. Be professional. When someone doesn't know something, you don't give them attitude. You just politely show them how to fix it. Great music plating while looking to get stuff! Definitely uplifting! Dancing while shopping with the cart! Lol! Of course I got more! I bought the Diet Pepsi cans. Also bought Raisin Bran, spicy beans, hot coco and cat food. They have great deals and tons of great foods! They have meat, produce, a bakery, medicines and so much more! The check out was easy. this foodmaxx is closest to my work so i usually stop by in a hurry after working to get whatever we need before i get home. long check out lines, the girl at self check out went out of her way to pull customers out of the line. i was on border of 20 items so i was in regular line but she said it was okay. she was super quick and scanned my items for me. very fast friendly service, she said she wanted help get the lines going. thank you clarissa your a super star and im thankful you helped this mom get home faster to make dinner for her family after a long day at work. read more

Nice selection of groceries at a good price. They have weekly ads with even more deals. You can now sign up via phone number for rewards and exclusive deals as well. Customer service is real iffy depending on who's helping you. Security is nicer than the employees unfortunately. They also price match! So you can use another major retailer's grocery ad to get the best price. Worth the stop for the prices. read more

A good selection of food here so you're likely to find just about anything that you're looking for. There's some turn over in these types of places as you may imagine. There's been a few time when I've heard the stocking guys talking pretty openly about things that are shamefully unprofessional. Guess it's poor situational awareness. On the other end are a few standout employees who are exceptional. Anita (seeing over self-checkout today), is one of those folks. Self-checkout was having a lot of glitches, rejecting scans, claiming that common items were not in the system, etc. That seemed to happening at 4 stations with folks needing assistance every few items. Despite constant demands for her attention, other staff needing help, etc. I observed her addressing each need in the kindest most efficient way possible. At no time did she sound annoyed, bothered or frustrated. Even if most would... And although self-checkout was a bit of a hassle today, Anita impressed and soothed with the way she handled the mess. I found this place on Yelp. I needed a grocery store on the drive between Yosemite and Kings Canyon. And this place seemed to be a short highway detour combined with comments about cheap prices. Yelp review in the age of Corona Virus. Foodmaxx please tell me why it is that you are going to hassle me about bringing in reusable grocery bags, bags that I leave in my cart (that you don't bother cleaning between customers) and take the items directly from the conveyor (that you also don't bother cleaning between customers) and place them in to said reusable bags, but you say not a word to all of the people wandering around inside the store without a mask on, despite the signs you have at the entrance saying you are legally required to ask them to leave if they refuse to wear a mask? I am all for enforcing rules to keep the transmission of the virus down, but be consistent in what you decide to enforce. How is me leaving bags in my cart, which I have already noted you don't disinfect between customers, protect me and other customers more than having to grab plastic bags from a pile that everyone in line before me has pawed through? For those playing along at home, it isn't. I could understand not wanting my bags to touch the surface of anything in the store if you were sanitizing things between customers, but you aren't doing that, and even though you aren't doing any sanitizing, I am STILL leaving them in my cart. read more

I'm not a fan of bagging groceries, but FoodMaxx is convenient, close to home and has good prices. If I find the need to stop in for just an item or two, I try to use the self checkout. I don't buy meat here, but I do like the produce. Fruit in season is from local growers. Prices are typically better here than the regular grocery stores on dairy, bread, sodas and many other items. read more

Foodmaxx - Spacious parking lot - Grocery Near Me - Fresno, California

Between this and Winco, it's my primary grocery store. Been coming here since I was a kid. They recently remodeled the store so it's a lot cleaner looking. The produce display is much nicer and the aisles were elongated. Overall, they have the inside a much needed face lift. They also have self checkout which is nice, especially if you're in a hurry or only have a few items. You can't purchase alcohol through it though. Sometimes they don't have enough check out lanes open so the lines can get pretty long. Staff is friendly and prices are good. read more

Always able to find what I need especially since the restaurant is in the same parking lot! Prices are decent and I am a HUGE fan of the rib eye specials they run! The meat is awesome and bbqing it is always the best way to go! I've been coming to this food max for 20+ years and it's never given me issues. Only gripe I have that made me rate this location 1 less star was all the bums in the area. Now I know this isn't there fault but for some reason it gets pretty sketchy late night and sometimes makes me not want to come by to get what I need before I head home. Other then that one issue the employees are always great and helpful whenever you can't find something! It's clean as well and bathrooms are in ok shape and a little rough but it's understandable because it's a older location! I live between 2 foodmaxx's and this is the one I favor out of the 2. The other is down shaw near valentine. I favor this one because a different type of people come here. They are usually more friendly, from my experience. The selection is okay and it looks a lot better since they remodeled it a while back. Their prices don't beat winco but if I don't feel like driving that far, I'll go here. Their bathrooms were clean and the rest of the store was too. Also, the people are helpful. read more

Not the best store. For some reason Save Mart is a world better than food Maxx and it's the same company I purchased 8 water bottles here. 2 broke. Before i could go to my ranch house in the mountains, i also realized the cashier had forgot one vital thing. The caps fot the bottles! After i spent $80+ on these things. Horrible customer service!! Cashier lady named Mari embarrassed me in front of other customers behind me because i mixed up my groceries. Saying "oh you might want to go to another line, she keeps mixing up her groceries, its gonna be a while". and saying it over and over to the next customer that gets in line behind me. I usually don't leave reviews like this, but I would've complained onsite if i wasn't busy that day. Affordable groceries 24/7. I like to browse and take my time when I grocery shop and I look for good deals. Stopping in late just for something to drink or some ice cream isn't convenient, but you'll save money by spending your time shopping here. Sometimes you'll luck out because not a lot of people shop late at night, but they only have one cashier open after normal hours. Also you have to bag your own groceries. But I think it's well worth it to shop here for the prices and the luxury of late night shopping. read more

I just moved to Fresno from LA. I was initially excited to come across foodmaxx because of the variety of affordable products that they offer. However, they're customer service skills is highly lacking and leaves much to be desired. I walked to the store to purchase a case of alcohol and was refused because of my expired ID. I offered to show my temporary ID that was issued by the DMV until I receive my Real ID in the mail. The cashier refused to sell me alcohol and when I asked to speak to the manager on duty he was extremely rude. He talked over me citing california state law (which by the way refusing an expired ID during this pandemic is store policy not state policy, this was confirmed through CA department of alcohol and beverage control). I wouldn't have had an issue with his decision but not once did he allow me to explain my situation or even offer to show the DMV issued temp ID. Instead he responded with "the cashier has already made the decision and i have to back her up". I'm not sure when cashiers were allowed to make finalized decisions and if this is the case, why is there even a need for a manager on duty? read more

Alright... so it's no Winco. That being said, I feel like their produce prices actually are quite competitive with Winco. Their selection is smaller though. Aside from that, they pretty much have most of the things you can think of. Also, they're open 24-7. That's a huge plus. Aside from a limited produce selection, my only other gripe about this place is that it generally carries a lot of items that aren't the healthiest options ever.
