Maybe I'm spoiled by my old Vons, but this store is a lot smaller with a less variety of goods, isn't open 24 hours, but is more expensive. I hated the deli at my old Vons, and wanted to try this store's deli, but it closes early (at 7PM), which sucks for people who work late. It seems I will be trekking back to my old store for now, gas be damned, and I will use this store as a backup for things I forgot to buy there. Sold me rotten chicken. Regular customer who lives around the corner. To repeat, they sold me rotten chicken. Man in gas mask at customer service responded I needed a receipt. Through a gas mask. I threw rotten nasty chicken in the garbage can in front of the store. Why would I try to score free chicken from this place? I shop at this vons almost every week, and it's a decent store. There are some pros and cons and they are as follows: PROS: -Everytime I come here, the people who work here are very helpful and extremely nice to me. I LOVE the tuna from VONS and I came one evening they had ran out of tuna, and when the guy saw the disappointment on my face he ran to the back and brought me some tuna! It was just really nice and something that really made my day. I love tuna...anyways next pro... -The pizza that VONS makes is REALLY good!! Way better than digorno or frozen pizzas...if you want a good priced, delicious pizza, get the Vons pizza. -OPEN 24 HOURS!!!! -Great wine selection! I can't believe I'm writing a review for VONS but.... I'm hoping this is constructive! Because, I'm torn. On one hand this store is very conveniently located and easy to get in and out of when you're grabbing a few items. On the other hand....and this is no exaggeration, every time I go there's some druggie/crazy person making a weird scene and/or stealing something. I've honestly seen the craziest stuff go down here. Maybe they need better security? Also, the produce has gotten better but many times it's like 99 cent store quality :( They have few people working and thus very long lines. Even if the store is packed, they have 3 lanes perpetually closed. And lastly, the store is kind of run down and dirty. The smells coming from some of the egg/fish/meat cases could send chills down your spine. I think if they did a remodel and hired more staff, it could solve all of this. read more

The deli department is outstanding. Dawn and Michelle have the act together. Dawn is a little rough around the edges but cute and on it. This store is managed horribly. I went there yesterday at about 2:30 p.m. I wanted to buy some fish but there was nobody in the Fish Department. Then I went over to buy some hot food, chicken habanero and the pieces were so small that it wasn't even one bite per piece. Also I asked how long the chicken had been out and they told me since 9 a.m. How can any business keep hot food out for more than 2 hours. If I were to have bought that chicken and ate it, would have got food poisoning. They either need to run this store correctly or shut it down. read more

I needed to grab an orange juice and a magazine....no one was in line, so I went up to cash register with my purchases.........and the cashier and another employee were talking and talking and talking Dont know how long it took him to recognize me but it was annoying...no greeting or anything, he just rang up the two items without asking if I had a Von's card, told me a total....so I plugged in the reward number and he didn't even acknowledge but did fix the amount owed. Not a single sound out of his mouth. I am so used to the great Vons and Pavillions in Culver City and Marina Del Rey, that I was totally flabbergasted by this. I mean...it's a supermarket so there's not a lot to be said but as far as supermarkets go, this one is A-OK. My biggest complaint is that they don't carry alfalfa sprouts or sprouts of any kind (radish/onion/etc). Like, why do you hate sprouts so much Vons? People like sprouts. There's a whole market named after them. Beyond that, this is usually a well stocked grocery store that is quite large and has lots of different sections including a nice large Hispanic section if you like to get your Mexican cooking on. In fact, they have several ethnic sections that are quite impressive. For vegans, they have a pretty good selection of meat-free options, like jackfruit (yum) etc which not all markets have. Their produce section is decent. (Except for the sprouts situation) The canned goods/soups is well stocked (They have my favorite flavor of Amy's soup that many stores don't carry) and the frozen foods section is also really well stocked. I rarely have a line to wait in when I'm here and the cashiers are always nice and helpful. So...parking. They have a HUGE lot but it's attached to 50 other things like banks, fedex, restaurants, the gap and so on so you WILL find parking but it might not be right in front of the market like you were hoping for. Which is fine because you live in LA and honestly, if you want to measure up with the rest of the anorexics, you could stand to walk a few steps, AMIRITE? The market is fine. So is your body. But seriously, get some sprouts, Vons! read more

A paragon of helpful souls abound within the walls of this supermarket. It was another hot, sultry day in the Valley. So warm was it, in fact, that had I been wearing my fedora, it would have stuck to my head. I wondered through the labyrinth of fully stocked shelves, in search of deli slices and Doritos. I had not one, not two, not three, but four - four different employees ask if I needed help. And not in an annoying manner, but in a genuinely accommodating fashion. One gentleman even recommended a great Chardonnay called Insatiable, which I ended up taking home. I especially like the wine selection this Vons offers; a wide array of alcoholic potions all reasonably priced. I also like their produce, floral and bakery departments. And a small Starbucks counter resides in the front, waiting to grant my mocha-filled dreams. The cashiers here are neighborly as well, and always thank me by name on my way out. A parking lot of vast proportions can easily contain your car while you shop. This happy hunting ground of fine victuals makes marketing a breeze. read more

I believe Vons and Safeway are the same company---and just like a lot of Safeways up north, the placement of the store in a specific neighborhood seems to be the biggest deciding factor of how good it is. And that goes for Vons down here (and Ralphs too really). This Vons, given it's location, is quite good--well stocked, very clean and the prices are good especially if you've got your little fascist Vons card (I do). I hate that this vons is my neighborhood vons... Because I'm a vons fan. I like the app and the just for you savings and the large selection. But this vons tests my patience every time The meat selection is extremely limited and I feel like everything is at it's sell by date. DO NOT SHOP HERE. ESPECIALLY if you are a young women. My sister and I are shopping 19 and 16 years old, and A janitor in the store walk approaches us and get extremely close, he is immensely older than us to the point where he has a full length ponytail and greyish hair. He starts talking about how beautiful we are and how he loves our hair and then he proceeds to ask my name. I tell him a nickname and then attempts to shake my hand!?!?? Again, I am 16 years old. J decline and we get far away from him and finish our shopping. Once ed are checking out, we try to tell our cashier about his inappropriate behavior he walks over and immediately lies saying we approached him about his rings first. That led to him mocking us, continuing to lie, and refused to back way from us. We bave tried to communicate with the manager but they are being extremely unhelpful. I LOVE THIS VONS. Here's my thing with supermarkets - I try to buy things that are on sale, but a lot of the time the things that are on sale with your customer discount card aren't REALLY that much on sale. But at Vons, THEY ARE. Vons treats their customers with discount cards like kings and queens. For example, on an order of $10, I saved nearly $5. That's insane. That's unheard of! I normally do my grocery shopping at Ralph's, but I happened to be in the area, so I figured I would give Vons a try. I figured it couldn't be much different than Ralph's - they even give you gas points to use at Chevron, like Ralph's does for Shell (the only upside to Vons). Now I don't want to say that all Vons locations are bad, this was just my first Vons experience, so...what else am I supposed to think? Upon first walking in, I went up to what I assumed was the customer service desk at the front, and asked if I could sign up for a Vons card (you know...to get the gas points). The woman behind the count shot me a very confused and disgruntled look like she had no idea what I was talking about. She told me to go to the register and ask them. Thankfully, this employee was nicer and let me fill out the form for the card. This location was pretty sketchy. In addition to the selection being very limited, half of the lights were off, which made shopping in the deli and bakery a little weird. Items were disorganized, thrown on the shelves, in some places barely stocked. In short, it looked like they hadn't stocked the place, or even straightened up, in quite some time. If you're looking to shop here, I advise you to continue down the road to Ralph's. At least you'll be able to see which bread is which. read more

Okay, so I've moved here from New York, and I've lived here for about four months now - and I've been shopping at this Vons, sporadically, for the entire time. All I have to say about this place is that if I wanted the deli department to cut me steak-sized slices of basic cold cuts, I would simply buy the wrapped version of said cold cuts and hack them up myself. I mean, seriously, what's the point of having industrial slicers in a deli if the people working there don't know how to use them properly? And while I'm at it, why do supermarkets in California pre-slice their cold cuts and leave them in a big pile behind the glass? I don't get that. I don't like this place. The only reason it gets two stars is because the cashiers are very friendly. I don't know. Maybe this place just makes me unreasonably angry. Although I'm writing this review specifically about this Vons, sadly, it could apply to almost any large chain grocery store these days. Let's go back in time for a moment... When I was a kid, I was in awe of the speed and efficiency with which the baggers packed up our groceries; it was like watching a game of 3D Tetris. The weight was evenly distributed amongst all the bags; items were arranged so as to fit neatly and not shift in transit. The butcher would offer tips and suggestions of what to do with the various cuts of meat; the produce guy could explain the subtle differences between varieties of apples. The checker would greet my mom by name, not because it was printed on her receipt, but because they actually KNEW her name. Recently I was in this Vons and asked the guy in the produce department if they had any okra. And I had to explain to him what okra is! REALLY?? It's not that obscure! If someone is working in the PRODUCE department, one would hope that they might actually know a thing or two about produce. Vons' idea of customer service is asking "do you need help to your car?" when you check out. The only trouble is, they ask no matter what you're buying . I sh*t you not, one day I bought a roll of paper towels and a bottle of laundry detergent and they asked "do you need help to your car?" I looked at them and said "Wow! Do you actually think I look like I need help to my car with this stuff?" They just stared back, somewhat bewildered and embarrassed. Someone in their corporate office apparently doesn't have faith in their employees exercising sound judgment as far as determining who might actually need help to their car, so I'm willing to bet they mandated that every single customer must be offered assistance. I can only imagine that there's some sort of penalty for not offering, no matter how obviously unnecessary the assistance might be. Yeah, Whole Foods is more expensive, but you know what? Not only do they generally have higher quality food, they have employees with brains and knowledge and the ability to exercise (sound) independent judgment. And although I haven't asked, I bet you their produce people know what okra is. I guess you really do get what you pay for. read more

Most of the people here are actually pretty good. It's convenient, prices were about average -- some higher, some lower, but usually nothing exciting either way. I shop there often, over the years (well, I did when it was open). But on this day, despite a 'full house' of really nice people (helpful, knowledgeable, cheery), there's always someone, right? I'd not found that terrible someone, even after years of shopping. But the last time I shopped there, I found him -- lucky, lucky me. The liquor manager was astoundingly unhelpful; even rude. Perhaps he was having a bad day. He obviously knew the department, and was apparently quite intelligent; while he was not helping me in any way at all, he also managed to brusquely brush off a nice couple asking about white wines ('go look for it yourself, I'm busy'), ignore a group of young men asking about IPAs (*waves his hand dismissively*, without even looking in their direction), and showed his polished kid-focused skills on a small girl looking around the corner for Mom or Dad ('you can't be in this area without your parents -- get out of here'). We're talkin' mad skillz. I can only be rude to one person at a time (maybe two, but that's pushing it), and this guy was like the final scene in a superhero movie. No matter what we threw at him, no matter how much we begged and pleaded, he would turn his back to us, become suddenly deaf (while glaring at us), and mutter things that, on reflection, I probably don't want to actually know what he said. First, I was annoyed, and slightly offended. Then, as I saw his incredible 'opposite-day' people skills displayed over a good fifteen minutes, I was appalled. I kept trying (as did other innocent bystanders), but ultimately, no luck. I didn't bother buying the four cases of champagne that were listed as being on sale (at a pretty good price); according to this manager, it wasn't on sale (it was), they didn't have it in stock (it was, six deep by four wide, and several unopened boxes behind the counter), or he was 'very busy'... not helping anyone. I asked for the store manager, but after wasting time dealing with the unhelpful liquor manager, I was done. I went elsewhere, paid a bit more, but actually got pleasant, helpful service. Vons Pavilions is closed now for renovation, and probably won't be open for many, many months. I hope that when it opens, that guy is in a better mood, but I'm willing to make a small bet that he isn't. Any takers? read more

I was at this location not even 10 minutes ago. I waited in line at the deli to buy a sandwich. $9.99 not a bad price. However the girl at the deli will not make a sandwich, because I wanted it on a roll and not on two small slices of bread. Even though they have a bakery and bag of French roll bread. She claimed that the manager that had gone home told her not to use any other bread, but the small slices. I was not asking her to give it to me for me. I have enough money to buy 10 sandwiches! Honestly I just dropped in for a quick pick up of PineSol. After five minutes in the place, I would recommend the cleaning crew at this market pick up a bottle as well. The odor of the place hits you the minute you walk in and in a very not nice way. The shabby appearance on the outside of the building should have been a clue. I grew up and used to walk to the original Food Giant market that occupied this very spot. Little has changed since 1960 including the parking lot which as stated in previous reviews is horrible. I fear that if I had truly walked the aisles of this place I might have been able to boast an archaeological find.... read more

Really terrible grocery store. I stopped in to purchase flowers and it was a pretty horrible experience. The store was cluttered and unorganized. There was no one to help me and when I finally found someone, they wouldn't allow a certain ribbon, and had no butcher paper to make the flowers presentable. Lines were super long and moved slowly. I told the man I didn't have my reading glasses with me and I couldn't see to do that so he looked at me said "too bad." I am normally a fan of Vons, but this establishment, I could do without. Bought a fried chicken breast for dinner several days ago, 6p. When I got home to put it with the other dinner items...... I was soooooooooooooooooo disappointed. Will not buy from that hot food section again. The meat was old.... Maybe even left over from the previous day. I did like the cookies. They have them in a little bag of 2 next to the register. Those F****ers were delicious! Tasted Fresh. Homemade taste. Horrible security in this store & parking lot! I had a guy follow me in from the parking lot with a huge backpack and chase me in the store. I realized he started following me from the parking lot to the interior of the store. I walked quickly into the aisle to get soda water and turned around and he was right behind me. I said excuse me really loud to him, passed him and did my other shopping. Being followed is a terrifying experience and the loitering around this building and center is frequent and dangerous. I advise against going in this shopping center alone as a female. The parking lot security is run by the Mexicali / 800 Degrees group and they are not keeping the creeps and loiterers out. Things have changed nowadays outthere. I went to this Vons this morning and they have these signs on the floor about practicing social distance. I haven't been out in almost 2 weeks. I got behind this lady at check out and her and the cashier started asking me to move back more. She had her shopping cart and I got mine between us and I guess that wasn't enough space for her. She was the one with the mask on not me and acting like she is allergic to people. I remember when people would stand behind me they were so close that they could smell my ass and now some people are worried about social distancing? I know this situation is real but come on some people don't need to be so ridiculous about it. Also, I brought my own bags and the cashier refused to bag my groceries unless I buy bags from them. I saw the employees bagging other groceries and wearing gloves. So what's the problem with my bags? It doesn't make sense to me. read more
