This Von's has the worst management for any grocery store in this area. During these hard times, they have not had any produce, bread, eggs, or canned goods. The shelves have been empty for at least a week and a half. I been to Ralph's and Asian markets and they have plenty of stock. What's going on here? read more

Tried to set-up delivery from Pavilion's. Referred to this Von's outlet. Accepted. Set-up account. Navigated screens/ordered. No ability to communicate precise substitution preferences. Grudgingly accepted. Chose 6-8 PM two hour slot. At final check-out, slot eliminated - replaced with one hour 8-9 PM slot and delivery fee was doubled. Grudgingly accepted. Cell # for texting asked and provided. No texts received. At 7:17 PM, received email stating order picked and (cryptic) substitutions made. Accepted. ORDER NOT DELIVERED. Customer service # closed for the day. Emails sent but received only automated acknowledgment responses. Called customer service the next day and told order picked but not delivered due to either "IT issues" or "store staff shortages". This string of events indicates utter incompetence - no execution, no communication. Patently unacceptable. read more

One day I came in for some coffee and she was yelling at her employee in front of customers. I myself worked as a cashier before and never did my manager/supervisor yelled at me in front of customers. My fault or not. I felt so bad for the employee. read more

We started shopping this store because of all the problems we had at the location at 7 Peninsula Center. Its more likely to have things in stock, but you have to be careful, very, very careful. Vons used to be a great store, but they've gone steadily downhill since Albertsons bought them out. More than once, I've found items that were expired on the shelves, and not on discount shelves, sold for full price. I always check the meat expiration dates very carefully (from the other reviews others have had similar problems). One time I found buttermilk that had expired A MONTH BEFORE, and reported it to the manager. Yet thereafter I continued to find expired dairy items. But I'd like to share my experiences with their delivery service just so everyone is aware of the problems. First, the prices are often higher than in-store, sometimes significantly higher. In addition to delivery, bags, fuel surcharges, etc. But I became homebound a year ago and had limited options. Generally speaking, the food isn't well packed (I've had heavy canned goods dumped on top of hot dog buns, frozen items left in paper bags, heavy vegetables dumped on top of lettuce, etc.), paper bags often break before you can get them off the porch, and the meat that's delivered often is not fresh. Its an event when an order is complete, items are often "out of stock" including common items like eggs, pickle relish, mustard, etc. But let me tell you about my most recent delivery order. I don't blame the employees, I'm sure they're good people who do the best job they can do under trying circumstances. But that doesn't change the fact that the delivery service really, really sucks, and you should use an alternative service (and probably a different market) if that option is available to you. My last order was scheduled for Saturday 5 - 6pm. I had deliberately included a small alcoholic item in the order so they would have to get my signature because in the past, despite asking that the driver knock on the door loudly, they hadn't done so. They often arrive earlier or later than the scheduled delivery window, drop the goods and go without knocking. Well, despite requesting in the driver's instructions that they knock loudly on the door, and leaving a note on the door, never got my delivery. The driver later claimed to my family that he had banged on the door. I had no problem hearing Amazon knock the day before, or the missionaries Monday morning. I had turned the TV and computer volume off, I was checking the front porch every 15 minutes well before and well after the delivery window had passed, and no sign of them. But okay, let's assume that that was just a mistake. We had delivery rescheduled for Monday between 5 and 7pm. We'd reconfirmed the delivery time Monday morning, and made sure they had the home phone number. From 4:30pm on, I was either in the front yard, the entryway, or sitting at a dining room table not 15 feet from the front door. I checked the front door every 10 minutes. And I sat there until 7:45pm, 45 minutes after the delivery window had passed. Nobody showed up until nearly an hour late. That was all bad enough, then I started going through my order. First off, they were "out of stock" on sour cream. A big store like this runs out of sour cream? Then the Romaine lettuce I had ordered wasn't included, instead I got some other kind of lettuce instead. That's more annoying given I was expecting two big heads of Romaine and I got two tiny heads of lettuce that wilted overnight, indicating they were something less than fresh. And the package of hamburger that was delivered on August 13th had expired on August 12th. Best case scenario is they kept the ground beef that was supposed to be delivered on the 11th (and which expired the next day, which is not anywhere close to fresh). Worst case scenario, they deliberately palmed off expired meat on a delivery customer at full price. So even if the delivery had been made on the original date, the meat would have expired in 1 day and was not fresh, one item was missing and another item was wrong, with no notation of a substitution (therefore whomever shopped it doesn't know what Romaine lettuce looks like and didn't ask). And they frequently don't come during the scheduled delivery window. This is pretty typical delivery experience, I'm sad to say. I recommend you use another service, like Instacart, and buy from a different grocery store. read more

I have been coming to this vons for YEARS, almost my whole life, and I have always had a great experience. I came here to write this review because of how Rod, handled a terrible customer with class. These employees have to deal with so much BULL from irate, self entitled customers during a pandemic, and I was so glad seeing Rod put his foot down in the name of safety. So kudos to this store, and how it is needing to operate. Keep doing what you're doing, plus, love the updates wine section. I always come here for different wines all the time now! Oh yeah! Usually I write to the store first, but the attitude has convinced me no one gets it. Since the remodel some years ago, the used-to-be-really-great bakery is no longer, only the donuts are still good, haven't tried all but most of the baked goods aren't, they are sticky, dry or tasteless. The used-to-be-great produce is high priced and often poor. Yesterday, I'd swear in court the ratty green beans are the same (slightly reduced) pile I passed on last week (I should have tagged one to check next week). They carry an increasingly small variety of items and more often, their own inferior brand; their salsa is a waste of a jar, their cola (Refresh) tastes flat when opened and their sparkling water is far too sweet, tastes like sugar water (and little sparkle). Last night I wanted frozen dinners, the prices were a shamble and displays are stuck on the windows so you cannot see inside the cases*. I gave up, I'll stop at TJ's tomorrow. The names of produce on the shelf label did not match the names on the produce (several), the lighting in produce is that low romantic you get in nice restaurants, but not conducive to picking onions (also old) or zucchini, the low shelves now used to arrange produce makes it harder to pick through (and you have to) and results in more bruising of fruits and veggies. The music loud, the check stand belt wet... the arrangement of items so chopped up things are hard to find, frozen fish are not with the frozen foods, sunflower seeds not with snacks.. rice cakes (high sodium) are with healthy food not other snacks ... They have gone in for the big family shopper, adding to the single item price to reduce the multi-item price, problem is I don't have room for 4 gallons of ice cream and 10 packages of frozen cauliflower hearts and I'll never use two restaurant size bags of Padrino's chips before they go stale. I end up not buying instead of getting the "deal". They have a nut island, why? I used to like this store. Pity And the Panda, food tastes like it sits out all day... I've seen them drip water from the warmer into the new food as they stir the old food in. *When I commented to the checker he told me "you just bring those right up here and I will check the prices for you!", like it is convenient for me to load the cart with the things I might buy and take notes on which ones are on sale and which can be combined for the sale price and then... will I return them all? I have shopped at this location many times. Either they overcharge me at the cash register or I'm dealing with negative attitude from cashiers or anybody else that's employed in the store. Employees are unfriendly and not helpful. Very negative experience every time I go there. Not going there anymore. I would literally put 0 stars but unfortunately that is not an option. This Vons is an absolute joke! Was told by manager and staff we could not have red pepper hummus on our sandwiches yet it is a posted sauce on their very own list of sauces for the sandwich. Then as you proceed to finish the order and receive cups, we went to fill them up with water. All they had was soda and tea, and was told we would have to walk to Starbucks across the store to water, a basic life necessity. Will never be returning to this dump of a store. read more

The Managers they get in there think they are CEOs and today was the straw that broke the Camels back for me! 2 dogs walking around and they are affraid to say anything first of all California law states that the only service pet allowed in a grocery store is a dog for a blind person NOT A COMPANION DOG!!! Very disappointed today. For some reason they declined my elderly mother's credit cards order and delivery. I know she has perfect credit, but also know these things can happen. But she got no help, and no help from management. First she called credit card company #1 and they told her that there was not even a request for credit card approval on record. The credit card company then got on a 3 way call with my mother, with this Vons store and they asked for the manager. All they could get in information that the manager was out, and to try back in 30 minutes. No name, nothing. She calls back later and get in touch with the manager, and he acted rude and like he did not have time for her. The store is nice but I will not bring my business to any Vons market again. I ran in tonight to grab some sliced deli meat. Stood there for 5 minutes while the two gals working in service deli just did their cleaning up. I got the attention of one finally who told me she's not the one who slices the meat and pointed to the other lady. I looked at the other lady who was chatting with a man who was not buying anything from there and said excuse me I'd like some deli meat cut she sorta stopped for a second to think about it and then said we are closed! Oh really!? Is that why your lights are still on and it's not even 9:00pm. They sure didn't looked closed but I'm guessing she just didn't want to make the effort. Well she lost another guy who was also waiting to get meat and myself. I will not be back to this Vons. Thank goodness I don't live in this area to need to shop here again. I am done with this Von's location. Even the nearby Albertson's is better and I never would have said that before this Vons. The employees appear to be 'dealing with' having to work there for the most part. Few are particularly kind though some are pleasant, to be fair. This morning I was treated to the 'lovely' Alexiz who looked absolutely miserable and mumbled the rote greetings without making any effort of eye contact or a smile. She finished morosely scanning my order looking down the entire time while constantly rubbing her eyes and handed me my receipt. Then immediately started scanning the next order and dumping it on top of mine as the bag boy furiously attempted to get my stuff bagged and keep track of which was which. She looked at him for a moment and the shrugged and went back to it as if to say 'he should bag faster then'. They struggle to keep track of the Just for U specials and when you point out that you didn't get the offer that was promised they make a big production about how annoying it is to have to fix it. Even the management are not particularly helpful. Several items of meat I have purchased here have been on the verge of turning. Where it doesn't taste quite right. I know being a cashier isn't most people's first career choice. I know working in a grocery store at all isn't the dream job usually, I did it myself as a kid. But it's a service you are getting paid for and you chose to do it, no one forced you. How about not treating me like crap or an annoyance for giving you my money. I'm done with this one. WORST PLACE EVER. I ordered cakes for my sons baptism & they messed them up!!! Total disaster. I thought I made it clear with the bakery lady, she told me and talked to me about everything I wanted on EACH cake.. I got there this morning... AND wow. The cakes were both the same, they spelled them wrong and to top it off my son could've made and designed the cake. It was such poor quality and the cake tasted disgusting. Review is just for the Seafood & Meats counter in the back of the store. The service is beyond sub-par. The only reason why I come to this store is because I live 30 seconds away and am too lazy to drag myself to someplace further. The three (count it, three) times that I have come here for meat or fish over the counter, I've had to wait a MINIMUM of five minutes for someone to even show up behind the counter. Twice, I've had other vons employees walk by, notice that I clearly need some help from someone and didn't bother to alert anyone. Also, the fish here is unreasonably priced. They jack up the cost of the fish, then slap a red tag on it stating it is $1.00 off per pound. read more

This is the best Vons I've been to...and lucky for me, it's close to home. It's always clean, well stocked, and most important convenient. I couldn't quite place my finger on why this one is so super duper, but after visiting other chains realized, they really do have the freshest and best priced products. Ordered a cake for my sons birthday at this location. The girl who helped me was very sweet and just made the whole process so easy. Came in on the Saturday for pick up and the gentleman working the bakery was very helpful. We got our cake but we decided that we needed a big cupcake for one of the kids at the party who would also be having a bday soon. So we wanted a little something and the gentleman helped us to get a fresh baked cupcake and had it decorated right there in the colors we asked for. All with a smile... and all while he was multitasking and working on his bakery duties. I say this bc I went to another location in the past and it just felt like I was interrupting their work/duties. So thank you bakery team vons at the crossroad local in Torrance!! You made our day!! Customer service is not a priority at this vons. Management, You Need To Remind Your Deli And STARBUCKS That Customers Are Important. I was waiting for someone to take my sandwich order, was ignored. Then an employee walked up and was helped before me! ! Overall the store is clean. They have decided to rearrange everything, which means longer times hunting things down. Be careful with the meat section. I personally have found expired meat in the packaged meat section. I have had to return meat and have given what I find to the butcher letting him know it is expired. Apparently they don't check it daily. Other dates on other items can also be expired. The message is...check dates on anything you pickup. read more

It's one of the nicer supermarkets in the area. They did a major remodel and the fruits & vegetables area looks more upscale now. Something about the lighting and presentation that makes it appealing. It's a huge store and it can take a while to get everything you need. There's plenty of parking and there is a Golden Spoon yogurt place in case you need to spoil your dinner with some chocolate frozen yogurt with cookie dough sprinkled all over it. read more

I love this Vons location! I go here for nearly everything (groceries, Starbucks, pharmacy, gluten-free items!) and have never had a poor experience. Staff members are always friendly and helpful - especially the pharmacy staff members. This location has a huge alcohol and bakery section... Everyone's favorite things ;) They also have a separate section for gluten-free and organic/natural food products. read more

My favorite part of this Vons is the separate natural foods section. However, this store is too large for its own good and the layout is odd. An endcap with chips on it gives you the illusion it is the chip aisle. Oh no, my friend. That's about 3/4 down. The signage is very small that I miss items and have to walk all over. As for the front end, there could be more cashiers on duty. I waited at Customer Service on a Friday mid morning for nearly 10 minutes before anyone acknowledged my presence. If there was more organization here, better signage, and more attentive workers this would get 5 stars, but I feel the size of this store stretches workers thin. read more

I like this location because some of the women know my family when I was younger and always ask me how they are when I go through the registers. It feels great to be acknowledge by some of the staff. This it the 4th time i have been over charged by their buy 5 deals. Yesterday when i got to my car i looked at the receipt and sure enough I was charged full price for the 5 items a $12 dollar difference.
