I ordered my daughters Birthday cake with hopes that it would be just as good as Albertsons(which is now closed in West Covina)I ordered a two tier cake (Vampirina theme) and two dozen cupcakes. I was grateful that they accepted my order, last minute 3 days before party my cake lady backed out. I arrived to pick up cake and was in total disappointment! The tier cake was lopsided, I ordered white cake with fresh strawberries. I received yellow cake with chocolate filling. To make matters worse my daughter is allergic to chocolate and did not have a piece of cake on her special day. Guest made comments that cake was dry and had no flavor. I was so embarrassed. I contacted the store manager, he was quick to talk over me and rush me off the phone. He offered a full refund. Not once did I receive a apology or an explanation of why order was made incorrectly. This store is poorly managed. Sunday afternoon and there are over 40 shoppers with carts waiting to check out. Both 15 item or less check stands are close and only 3 are open and working slowly. The review based on customer service. I am so embarrassed of my fault. I called to ask about the Western Union. The customer desk said there was no Western Union. I asked if he was the manager. Mike said he's the manager. I got mad, accused them of lying because there's Western Union in every Vons. Actually I was wrong to call this Vons because I assumed every Western Union at Vons was same. I called again and he said there was a Western Union but there's a problem. (That's so right, my fault). I insisted he was lying. I was even brazen to threaten him to report it to his bosses and write a bad Yelp review while I was wrong. Then I called the bakery and asked the same question. They answered there was no Western Union. I exploded, was even bold to accuse the bakery of lying (it's not like that), rudely threatened them to write a Yelp review. I checked online and realized that their Western Union had no features to receive money. For simplicity, they said there was no Western Union since I was moronic anyway to think all Vons had identical services. For completeness, actually this Vons Western Union couldn't be used to receive money. Listed at Western Union site, this branch has almost no services (only can send money). No wonder they said this Vons didn't have Western Union. I called back and apologized. What a terrible attitude I had (already wrong but insisted I was right). I knew I was stressed because it's hard to pick up money from Western Union. The help desk was nice, kind, forgiving. Even recommended me that Food4Less could do it. Updated review: I still stick to my previous statement of it being kinda pricey after you're done shopping , but that's the same as any market I can say unless you're shopping at Walmart or any bargain store! I say use coupons , or enroll online for online coupons to your rewards card. It's open at 6am and closes at midnight , which is convient for me , when I need a early or late grocery run! I keep forgetting to get the cashiers name a woman maybe in her 30s if that but she is always super friendly and helpful! Went to the deli at 9:30 this morning to pick up a sandwich on my way to the beach. Helped by a woman named Cheri who looks like she absolutely hates her job. I asked for a fresh sandwich and she low key wanted me to pick up the pre made one that was packaged yesterday. So I said yes I would like one exactly like that just fresh. And when I asked for onions and mayonnaise she said "I guess all American sandwiches don't usually come with that" and shrugged her shoulders. Super rude. Mind you, there is no line. This is the closest and most convenient grocery store to me, but I only use it when I am in a bind grocery-wise. I feel that it is pricey, but the last few times I have gone there, they've only have 2 cashiers open with 10 plus people in each line. People complaining to open at least one more and staff saying that they don't have one. With as busy as this place can get, they really need to have more than 2 cashiers open or open some self check outs. I will say though, the staff has always been very nice and that's why they get at least a 1 rating. I'm thinking that it's probably a scheduling/management issue. If they don't have have enough people to open extra cashiers then they need to step up and hire more people or like I said before--open up a few self checkouts. For now, I will only use them when I absolutely need to. I will continue driving further down the road to get my regular shopping done. read more

Once you park the car, in this parking lot that is too small with no striped lines you part of the adventurous journey starts. The store has probably been at this location for decades the footprint is very small, once inside the fixtures are modern the products have a great variety. However everything feels super tight, The spaces in the isles can barely accommodate two carts going in opposite directions, The dairy and fruit sections feel like go kart tracks because the product is so abundant in the space is so small. The fruits are very fresh. However the store has many items on the floor near check out it is not very tidy. There's a big security presence the neighborhood has interesting. Prices are decent. I was in fear for my life at Vons West Covina today. I was shopping and noticed the security guard not wearing his mask correctly. It was not covering his nose. I addressed the issue with him and he apologized however he is the one who's making sure everyone is following proper Proto call. So who is watching security? Store manager? Who is watching store manager? District manager? How can one be SAFE going to a store when a store is not safe to go to? Maybe the store needs to be shut down. This virus is real. When to Vons yesterday around 3 pm. There only two express registers open and one regular. All three lines had more than 5 customers in line. Purchasing one item a became the 6 person in line. No problem, I can wait. Then I heard the first express cashier call for an override. Then the second express register calls for an override as well. I can wait, but when each cashier has paged for an override for the fourth time, and no manager responded my patience had come to and end. I went to the floral department in hopes of courtesy service, instead I received nothing but passive aggressive attitude from this woman. Now normally I wouldn't speak on rude people's behavior... only because I understand people might be going through personal issues. I was pleasantly surprised with Vons. I judged the book by its cover, and I expected Vons to be on par with Aldi or Reams... but it was nice! I had a long grocery list, and I found everything I needed. I'm not sure why they had the tortillas so far from the rest of the food - wouldn't it make sense to place them by the Ethnic food, or closer to the bread aisle? Well, it seems most grocery stores place them on the aisle ends - but that doesn't make it make any more sense (did you follow that?). Clean, friendly employees, and wide selection. This store used to be decent but is going downhill. Considering Vons is pricier than other stores you would expect better quality product. While shopping I noticed expiration dates expired on food and brought it to the managers attention. I should have checked the dates on all the food I purchased because when I got home I was eating some food that didn't taste right and it had also expired last month. Be sure to check expirations on everything which you shouldn't have to do at this organization. Sure will add to the amount of time you need to shop if you have to check all expiration dates. read more

This VONS does the job for the majority of your grocery needs. I was hesitant to come due to the bad reviews, but it's in a convenient location for me. I came on 2 occasions. The first time I came I parked and found a sketchy person hanging out by the cars. I said a quick prayer for my safety and headed in the store which appears to be your average VONS. Unfortunately they didn't have an ingredient I needed to make salad (feta cheese), so I had to go to stater bros for it. I noticed that stater bros was much busier and came to the conclusion that it's a more popular store in the area. My second visit was on Friday night. I found everything I needed this time. Sadly there were only 2 registers open with each line extending into the aisles (at least 5 customers in each line). A 3rd register opened up as I was making my way to the back of the line, so I was happy to have not waited so long to check out. The staff here are friendly and helped me find what I was looking for in my limited experience at this market. Given the pandemic, they should consider opening up more registers to limit crowding in line especially when others are not social distancing. I was pleasantly surprised that they accept returns on unused produce (pineapple, unopened boxes of berries). read more

Employees would say they would check and then proceeded to never return! I am 65 with a bad knee and I can't walk around the store. There were no mobilized carts at the time. Upon my visit to the store finding the groceries was no trouble except when I went to the bakery in the bakery I witnessed none of the employees wearing gloves they were handling the food and prepping the food without gloves nobody back there was wearing gloves. If you are into the gym/fitness beware, this Vons sells their rice cakes for $1.29 more than Walmart does. Other low calorie gym staples like jello, chicken, and broccoli are extremely over priced. I come to this location primarily out of convenience. The store is clean and I have never had a problem with the quality of the products sold here. I do however have a problem with the deli and bakery department. The service is absolutely horrible. All the girls in this department are rude. It took 7 minutes for someone to help me at the deli. Finally someone acknowledged me and said something. I did not hear what they said and I said, "I'm sorry..?" The girl responded, "I said DO YOU NEED HELP??" I responded "Yes, please," even though it was obvious I needed help. She called someone else from the back to come help me. Everytime I come to the deli the tall girl has always got to call someone else to do it. There is also an eastern european woman Gosia who works in the deli who is very sweet. Unfortunately her coworkers treat her like garbage. I feel very badly for her, they are very condescending and treat her like she is dumb. One morning she mispunched on the register and the manager came over and was like, "What did you do?!?" I was very calm and didnt make a fuss because i knew the manager would make Gosia look bad. After the issue was solved the manager looked at me and shook her head like the woman did something horribly wrong. I take it the other employees here get away with their attitude because thats the kind of attitude their supervisor promotes. Besides the issue at the deli I enjoy coming here...the cashiers are lovely and very good at helping me get in and out as fast as possible. read more

Have ordered several custom cakes over the phone with them with no problems until recently. My last order somehow got lost and when I came by to pick it up, there was no record of my order. Uh-oh. Luckily they have cakes on hand that can be quickly personalized on the spot. The store manager said my cake was on the house since they lost my order. It wasn't exactly what I ordered but they acted quickly to fix the problem and on top of it, didn't charge me for their mistake. Very cool. The staff here are friendly and helpful. Always long lines at this store with 2/3 check out lines open. Takes forever just to grab just a few items even when they have the express line open. Just tried calling to place an order for chicken for this Saturday. First time I was put on hold and about 7 minutes later sounded like someone picked up to intentionally hang up. Called back and after 5 minutes someone answered and was put on hold for another 5 minutes until I just hung up. I love Vons but this one is pretty bad. read more

Stopped by to pick up some awesome deals they had for labor day weekend. Nice big parking lot. Its in the same lot as CVS. The Store is on the smaller size. Things are oddly placed because of the size of the store, for example they dont have a section for "Chips" - the chips were separated on end caps on 3-4 consecutive aisles. I also found it odd that employees were restocking at mid day (3pm). So there were carts, and empty cartons/boxes all over the place. Maneuvering the shopping cart in those aisles were a challenge. When I got the the front to pay - there was only 1 cashier and it was 6 people deep. She called for back up and it took about a bit for someone to come up. I didn't have a Vons card so I asked for one so I can get the deals. The employee told me to fill out the form and bring it back. Its not a bad store. I will return if they have awesome deals like they did today. read more

This supermarket is clean, has a great deli selection and best of all...a produce guy. Yes all those commercials that you've seen with the produce professional picking out fresh local products to bring to the consumers...All true. My sisters and I did a quick grocery run for the week and we live about a mile away from here so why not? We went to the produce section to pick out melons. I'm Asian in case any one wondered, and the way my mother always had taught me to pick a melon is by knocking on it. Something about a certain sound meant its sweeter...Let's say I never perfected the sound pounding melon picking. This produce guy came up and asked if we needed help since we were hammering away at his perfect melons (no pun intended). We told him we don't know our melons. Next thing we know we had him picking out our melons and telling us which seasons are best. Needless to say our melon was really sweet and not over riped. I'm definitely coming back here if for nothing else having a personal produce shopper is a perk in my book! read more

There were about 8 people in line in the fast check out and no other cashiers came to help. They only had 2 working at the time.
