    Custom cupcakes - so good!
    Julie O.

Do you need amazing baked goods that look like a million bucks? If so, Sugar Bliss is your place. They do a great job and take custom orders. The cupcakes are indulgent but delicious and worth it. They do have a variety of items you can purchase without preorder. We ordered custom cupcakes for a Pride event at work and they were stunning.

Pretty good, our office brought in treats for Lunar New Year. No complaints! I enjoyed the sugar cookies the most.

Loved this little cupcake shop connected to the Palmer House hotel! I was thrilled to see multiple Vegan and Gluten Free offerings. I had the vegan chocolate cupcake with vanilla icing, and it was incredible. Couldn't taste the difference between it and a standard cupcake. Will definitely be returning to try their other flavors when I am in town. In addition to cupcakes, they also had macaroons and cookies available.

I've been on the hunt for the best cupcakes in Chicago and was intrigued by the shop's impressive variety of baked goods. The mini cupcake offerings were particularly exciting and seemed ideal for when you can't commit to just one flavor! The shop was a bit messy with boxes covering the tables and blocking the windows, giving the impression that the shop is more of a to-go operation. I ordered the mini chocolate cupcake with chocolate frosting and an oatmeal raisin macaron. The frosting and cake texture were perfectly soft and moist, but the pastry overall was a bit flavorless. The macaron actually had a great flavor that came through well, but was a bit hard and possibly slightly stale. $7 for the two small items seemed a bit steep. Overall, a convenient stop in the loop to satisfy a sweet tooth.

I love love sugar-bliss ... have been a loyalist although haven't come back lately but plan on picking up some goodies soon. The best quality cupcakes and you can't go wrong!!

Wonderful spot! Highly recommend if you're looking to pick up some good baked items. I picked up a pack of six for a dinner. I was going to at a friends house and everyone really enjoyed them. You really can't go wrong with any flavor and I had to pick up one gluten-free one which they were very sensitive about handling.

I've had much better cupcakes. The Orange Dream didn't have any flavor. The Red Velvet was dry and it just didn't appeal to me. Service was fast and pleasant.

Cute bright and vibrant spot in the Palmer hotel! A little lacking in flavor, freshness unfortunately. I stopped in last week, wanted a small bite to satisfy my sweet tooth. I ordered an Irish cream mini cupcake and salted caramel macaron. They were perfectly sized, very cute on the small plate, but didn't really deliver in terms of flavor/texture. Both were relatively cold/hard, definitely not fresh. Tasty enough but not exactly a home run. Staff was nice and friendly though, gave me an ice water too when I requested.

What a cool place inside the Palmer House hotel. Service with a smile from two wonderful employees! They have some amazing macarons, tons of breakkie beverages, and so much more! Enjoy it and you will not regret it!

It was okay, and very convenient to my work in the Loop. Sugar Bliss is located in the Palmer Hilton on the Wabash-facing side, and there's an entrance from Wabash itself and from within the hotel. When I came in, I was greeted pretty much immediately, and the employee walked me through the various flavors. I'm not a macaron gal, but their other main item is their cupcakes. I got six mini-cupcakes: Chocolate caramel, key lime, something coconut, margarita, and strawberry. The key lime was probably my least favorite; I didn't taste anything akin to a key lime flavor, even in the frosting. The chocolate caramel was my favorite--I got one for each of us to have individually, and we shared the others. The chocolate-based cupcakes were the best ones that they had in my opinion. The vanilla ones were pretty disappointing, and just didn't have a great flavor. Having said that, I totally tasted the margarita in the margarita cupcake! In addition to the macaroons and cupcakes, they sell some individually wrapped cookies, Rice Krispie treats, and the like near the register, and you can also get your cup of Joe (or tea) here if you wish.

All pretty standard flavours, but if what I got is representative of the whole offering, the quality is what makes them special. I got the Manjari, a chocolate mousse coated in a dark chocolate ganache with a thin chocolate cookie/cake "crust" on the bottom. It was almost $10 which I think is pricey for an individual dessert, but it was perfectly designed and the chocolate was clearly good quality because it was RICH. The dessert was pushing my tolerance for sweetness but in this small portion it worked as the chocolate was very strong to balance it out.

The green and white color palette immediately reminded me of Ralph's Coffee. It felt classic and polished but still charming. Everyone working there had a smile on their face, and the warmth felt so genuine and comforting, especially first thing in the morning. They had such a huge selection of pastries and cakes that it was honestly hard to choose. I ended up getting the cake shaped like a cherry because it looked so interesting. It was a black cherry cake and I paired it with a cappuccino. It was the perfect combination. The cake was beautiful and tasted just as good as it looked. We also ordered the breakfast burrito, which came with a small side salad. It was fine, but not the standout for me. If I came back, which I would, I would probably stick to the pastries and coffee and try more of their baked goods instead. Service was amazing. The ambience was adorable. I loved how all the silverware, plating, and dinnerware matched that perfect green tone. Every detail felt intentional. It was just perfect.

The food was really excellent, as was the service. But it was ridiculously priced. The reuben sandwich was $28. It was a great sandwich, very lean, but you could get a sandwich as good for half the cost elsewhere. They only have a couple of kid's items, but my friend requested buttered noodles for her kid rather than the cheesy noodles. I got the hibiscus drink and lavender lemonade, both non-alcoholic, and they were very good. My little one especially liked the hibiscus. And we ordered the appetizer of whipped ricotta and honey; my daughter liked this more than anything else we ordered. We didn't have dessert at the restaurant, but ordered to go. The pot of gold was really good. There were little "gold nuggets" on it and that was my daughter's favorite part; good thing since I didn't realize it had a layer with Bailey's in it. It was very rich, and the cauldron was really thick chocolate (and actually was a struggle to get into, a bit!). The restaurant is small but it didn't feel crowded. We never felt rushed or unwelcome, and we were there for a couple hours (longer than I realized; it took an unusually long time to make two reuben sandwiches). Their pastries are really nice but somewhat expensive, like the rest of the menu. It was a nice, sophisticated experience.

However, for a neighborhood dessert shop, these were as close to macaron perfection as can reasonably be expected. What I'm referring to is the crust/shell. If I'm correct, a textbook-perfect macaron shell is firm yet as delicate as a frozen soap bubble, with a much softer dough underneath. With these, I felt as though a hair (and I'm not exaggerating) of the firmness transferred from the shell to the dough. Again, I grant grace due to the inherent difficulty of perfecting this delicate pastry. Where these macarons truly shine, and do so more than any I've had previously, is their filling. I was able to try a salted caramel and a coffee. Both of these had very distinct flavors, not simply a generic sweetness with hints of something. I could have immediately identified these flavors, even if you hadn't told me what they were. While it was later in the evening and not busy, I still want to give points to the friendly and personable individual working behind the counter. Thus, while perhaps not a cross-town destination, Andersonville's Macaron Bar delivers products that can perfectly satisfy a sweet craving.
