My mother has stayed at 3 skilled nursing & 2 rehab facilities over the past 3 years (fallen & broken each hip) so this review is from experience of what I know should happen, but also there is obvious degradation of the property as well. The staff do seem to follow the state rules about 30 min of PT & OT daily 5x per week. The PT, Rindy is good at her work, caring, & tries hard to be helpful. The OT was lacking in depth & quality. It's good for basic memory review, but not for problem solving when returning home having to use a walker (after hip surgery) & carry a plate type of situations. The exterior of this facility is beautiful! They even have 2 huge BBQ pits out front for what could be a nice picnic. However I can't imagine when or why they would have ever been used. There was a pretty Xmas tree in the living/dining area on the 1st floor that you could see upon entry. She got 3 meals per day that were not bad to eat. However, that's where the positive comments end. I've heard it was a nice place according to the people who had been there or visited someone there no less than 5 years ago. Since then, it has deteriorated a LOT. I commented that it needs a little paint in the elevator. The employee in the elevator with me said it needs a lot more than paint. So here is what you need to know: There is NO security, just sign in at front desk and go on up. Or don't sign in, nobody will notice. Visiting hours are flexible because you can push the doors open any time. None of the floors above the 2nd floor are being used. There were a lot of roof leaking problems when it rained, to the point that you can see water spots on the ceiling in my mom's room on the 2nd floor. The elevator doors look like something was spilled on them & never cleaned.95% of the Nurses were rude & hard to understand. Most facilities have a dry erase board where they write their names so you know your schedule & caregivers name for each shift. There was nothing like this at Vosswood. read more

It been over a year since I wrote the first review of the Vosswood. As of December 23, 2024, my husband and I drove by there many times, but this time it was CLOSED. A fence was blocking the entrance when we drove past it, so we called. The message explained it was closed for repairs after storms in Houston. Alas, to the investors.....if you want to increase satisfied clients and their families, please consider several things. The location is very upscale, for God's sake, our ex-president Bush Sr lived only 3 minutes away in a gated community, and gold medalist Gymnast Mary Lou Reton lived next door to the Vosswood, not to mention the huge wealthy church of Second Baptist is across the parking lot. There are prominent restaurants, stores and even high-end gas stations in this area. A low-rated, underserved Medicare facility riddled with negative comments is unbecoming for this location. If you plan on re-opening, do your research. Consider contacting leaders in the community and city officials to assist with brining back Vosswood to it's former glory, renaming it the retreat or resort at the Vosswood. Yes, it will take a large long-term investment and may not be affordable to all people. read more

This is the most beautiful atmosphere and best cleaned place in Houston. The facility is absolutely understaff. I believe the administrator has been ordered by the owners to hire the least amount of nurses or nurses aid , as well as OT, & PT. I had to put my Mom twice in the last year. At that time was only to help her walk again because of a leg surgery that required OT & PT. I only allowed Mom to stay at this facility until she could walk with a walker because the services were 50/50. This year of March & April 2020 their services were really the worse ever! Mom was admitted to the hospital and released to get therapy at The Vosswood nursing facility again. This time she only received about 10% medical care. There was only one nurse per floor. And one of the nurses aid , didn't want to change Mom's Diaper because she said it was the job of our personally hired security to do it. Our hired security went to talk to Mr. Cassidy Jones , and he tried to correct the problem. The problem continued at nighttime when some of the nighttime nurses let my Mom stay in soiled diaper from 6 to 8 hours. This caused her to get bed sores. The PT & OT discharged my Mom after one day that she could get up because she hadn't slept the night before. They informed me that Medicare doesn't pay if the patient doesn't show improvement after 24 hours, which later I found out if was a big lie. Our 24/7 Extra hired help , logged in everything. Brought it up to Mr. Cassidy Jones , which he didn't seem to really care that much. Sometimes older patients will be left on the hallways for 3 to 4 hours begging and yelling for HELP to be taken back to their rooms. The nurses ignored them when and got on Their cellular. My suggestion is that the administrator should walk the floor during the day at least once to check up on patients. I would do it if I was the administrator. Patients were screaming for help. I told one of the nurses that if they didn't help them that I was going to report them , she rolled her eyes and after 15 minutes she wheeled one of the patients into her home. Another patient was left without help and I had to help her to the front door of her room. She thanked me profusely because her arm hurt so much and She could roll her wheelchair. Another poor old lady that couldn't get up asked and yelled HELP for many hours. Her food tray had fallen into her knees. I asked the nurse to help her because I was going to record it. The nurse came into Her room like a big elephant thumping in , and after about 15 minutes , she proceeded to closed her door in front of me so I wouldn't see what she was doing , or perhaps for privacy , I saw all this while I was standing in the hallway. Later that the mean nurse left the room, the por scared patient informed me that the nurse threatened her with these words: If you keep on yelling and asking for help I'll make you pay for it. The poor lady was very scared. This kind of treatment from these horrible nurses is unacceptable. I feel sooooo sorry for the patients that are left at this facility an only get one visit per week or month from their relatives. Because of the negligence at this facility , I made sure to just pop-up at anytime to check up on Mom. This is the reason I don't recommend this place. It was like being in a horror movie without an end. As I said before , It's a great clean place and a open beautiful facility. It's to bad that it is under bad staff with the majority of nurses that are terrible, rude and not gentle when it comes to treating the elderly in need of gently humane care. I would probably never take Mom there again if I can help it. This place needs a good caring administrator and more staffing ( good kindhearted nurses) to give the proper care to all the patients. I did get to meet two kind hearted people besides the cleaning crew. When the regular elevators don't work we has to take their very dirty elevator used to take food to their patients and also to allow news patients to be admitted. These facility flooded to the top of the 1st floor during hurricane Harvey , and everything else got replaced , but the elevator for the staff still has a very nasty carpet. Some of the caretakers asked me if I could report it because they were afraid to get fired. Until now I had found time to write a true and honest review of The Vooswood Nursing facility . This is a place where I would love to work to get all the people straightened. Customer care and Patients care is my greatest asset. You must have compassion and truly care to be able to help people in need. One day I hope to be able to help people that truly need a bit of kindness , Love and Compassion, especially the elderly which are the most neglected. For a couple of months, I've been trying to resolve a billing issue to which, I was originally told by the attending physician, Vosswood discharge planner (whose since been terminated) and insurance that my mother would not be billed. Tried in vain to get the weekend staff to contact the discharge planner, Nurse manager, and the executive director. Turned out, the Vosswood discharge planner failed to complete discharge paperwork and if mom were to leave, she would be considered AMA! The nurse on call would not sign off and stated that someone else had to and reiterated AMA. I've left four messages for the executive director to resolve and he's yet to respond. Now I'm worried Vosswood Nursing Center will file this bill with the credit bureau, no fault to my mom. Consider another facility before placing your love one here. There was a number of times when I couldn't get accurate information regarding mom's daily care and lack of accountability. read more

This facility is the best I've come across in my many experiences with rehab and physical therapy for my mom and grandmother. The therapy director Beth, is amazing and so helpful. She knows her business and it shows. The physical therapist, occupational therapist and speech therapist are also amazing and soooo good at their jobs. My mom went in unable to walk, stand up, feed herself, basically lost ability to do most things. Vosswood therapists had my mom walking with a walker and getting up and down by herself, grooming herself eating by herself and more by the time she left them. I have to brag on the rest of the staff as well. They were all so helpful and kind. They genuinely cared for my mom and wanted to help her and get her better. Just to name some: Elizabeth, May Lynn, Diana, Kate, Kasey, Donna, Jennifer, there are so many more that made such a good impression on our family. I highly recommend Vosswood for rehab and therapy. My ONLY complaint is that they are short staffed. Because of this, it took a long time to get someone to come to our room when we pushed the nurse's button. Not at all the staff's fault. I'm very thankful for the care they gave my mom. read more

My wife was a patient at Vosswood for 45 days after being discharged from one of the local hospitals. She has a port because she has been a cancer patient and the port is used both to give fluids and to withdraw blood for blood tests. Using the port means it has to be accessed properly with special equipment, and then flushed after use, or every 30 days even when not used. It requires an RN that has been trained to do that. The first required blood tests after my wife was admitted had to be delayed until the proper equipment arrived and the Director of Nursing was able to muddle through and get the necessary blood sample. The second time she was unable to do it properly and she and the Vosswood Director made the decision to take her to the ER at the closest hospital. They thought the port was damaged. Vosswood then had her taken to the hospital where the port was initially surgically implanted, and they said there was nothing wrong with the port. I had a discussion with Mr. Cassity Jones, the Director, and with Mr. Portia xxxxx the Director of Nursing, and told them that the expenses for the two trips by ambulance to Hospitals 1 and 2 were not to be billed to me, as the difficulties were due to their inability to access the port correctly by the medical professionals on staff. Mr. Jones assured me that I would not be billed for those expenses. I did receive bills for those expenses and called Mr. Jones, who denied having agreed to pay those expenses. I can only relay that he is a lying SOB. NO STARS although I am forced to select at least one to post a review. read more

Although I cannot speak to the quality of the care, I can speak to my access as a family member. This occurred during COVID. It was next to impossible to make contact w my family member while in the center. I called daily and they either would not answer the phone, say that they could not find him in the facility, or when they could they would take messages that never got to him. Over the course of 10 days, I was only able to make contact with him twice after trying daily. read more

With the exception of two or three individuals, this was the least supportive, involved, and caring facility in which, as a doctor, I have ever been involved. My wife was in post surgical rehab for a week. Medications were often denied or delivered up to 6 hours late. Often there were no bed sheets. The facility is clean and pristine, the staff in "care less". Another choice would be wise. read more

Vosswood is a great Rehabilitation Facility. My wife broke a leg tripping on a rug. After emergency surgery Vosswood was selected as a facility to provide care and theraphy. The people were marvelous, compationate, competent and really caring. The culture blend of the staff enriched our human experience. The food was great, on time and always nutritious. The Therapists were fantastic. My wife has recuperated in record time, She is walking with the aide of a walker in couple of weeks, soon, she will be back to normal. Truly, we are indebted to Vosswood - All staff, everyone. Enthusiastically recommend the place, the location is ideal as well as the views of Buffalo Bayou in the heart of the Galleria Area makes this place uniquely distinct from all others. After a surgical procedure I selected the Vosswood facility for post care involving wound dressing and IV antibiotic administration. The Vosswood is a very nice facility, the staff proved to be friendly and professional. The operation is a little different from the hospital, but once you understand that's what it's supposed to be it's not bad. You have to get to know the staff, and they have to get to know you. The food is better than decent and there are plenty of fun activities planned out by the team. Great job Vosswood. Thanks for taking such good care of me during my short stay! read more

Only putting 1 star because you have to... if you can avoid this place and find another care center for rehabilitation, I would HIGHLY suggest it. I am disgusted with the way they have treated my family member. It's not their loved ones in there and they make that perfectly clear. Zero compassion, zero care (unless you think letting someone sit there for 5 weeks with no shower care). Avoid if possible. read more

We had my dad at this nursing center twice. The first time everything went well, but the second time it the next day he got there his left knee was cut deeply, but to this date nobody can tell us why or how. There was 3 people in his room at the time, 2 therapist and the nurse and none saw what happened to my dad. The cut was deep and required him to get 12 stitches across his knee, but yet the administrator said there is nothing they can do about it and refused to give me the insurance company's name so that we can file a claim for the damages my dad sustained while under their care. They said that they cannot do anything about it, because they don't know what happen to my dad nor how he got cut. It's a shame that they have no sympathy for their patients and treat them like they don't even count. This breaks my heart that they treated my dad like he was nothing and could careless for his well being and protection. I discourage anyone from taking their loved ones to this awful place. Mid-afternoon I tried calling Vosswood Rehabilitation Center to get Wife's room #. The only Vosswood facility name, or phone # that an online search produced is the Vosswood Nursing Center @ (713) 827-0883). The phone rang 10-15 times on the 1st attempt, with no response. I checked the number and called again. This time I let it ring 20 times, but again, no one picked up the phone. Four hours later, I called the only number posted on their website again. Once more, it rang 20 times with no answer / response. Very Troubling... read more

My friend was sent there for rehab following complications from surgery. She was supposed to have physical therapy twice a day. They only did it once a day. She was supposed to wear compression hose. She would ask to have them put on, and the aide or nurse would say they had to check her orders to make sure she was supposed to have compression hose, and then they would never come back. This went on for four days before the hose were finally put on. An aide brought in a lunch tray and, while placing it on the over-the-bed table, knocked a cup of water off the table onto the bed. She rolled her eyes and walked out, leaving my friend with wet bedding. Never came back. She is on a medication that makes her mouth very dry. She asked for water multiple times -- it took three hours before they finally brought it. I know all this because I was there every day to look after my friend. On the fifth day, she developed another infection and had to return to the hospital. Although this was a bit of a setback, in the long run, it was a good thing. We were able to get her into a different rehab. Vosswood is primarily a nursing home. Most of the patients are seniors; they have lots of activities for those who are still active, and there is even a dementia floor for those who need closer supervision. It may be that they are better suited for those kinds of care, but I would not recommend this place for a person who is expected to recover, go home, and continue their life. read more

The Vosswood nursing center has always provided the best service for my family and I. I would recommend them to anyone I know.

My father has Alzheimer's and had fallen and broken his femur. They placed him on the Alzheimer's floor for rehab. They told me I needed to hire a sitter to sit with him every night which was not covered by his insurance. Both sitters I hired said this was the worst place they ever worked at. My father fell 3 Times while in Vosswood's care. They ignore the Alzheimer's patients. They just leave their food in front of them uneaten. They left him in dirty diapers. The staff only help people if someone is visiting a patient. They told me to wash his close myself because things get mixed up. I did and items were still missing. The social worker was clueless of my fathers needs or injuries. She called me and said your father is all healed and ready to go home. I told her he is not walking and they have not started rehab, she released him anyways. Luckily I got him in Brookdale Tanglewood to start his rehabilitation. I would give them no stars if that was an option. read more

This review will be mixed.....first the business office (Gio) was the nicest person in the facility. He went beyond normal to help accomadate our needs, but since he works for a corporate enitity his hands are tied on a lot of levels. After a devasting stroke, my husband was sent there which on the tour looked like the perfect place, especially after being told he WOULD walk. Guess what...after about 40 days of partial rehab, he still didn't walk, but I will give wonderful praise to the rehab staff as they tried so hard to make it happen, but they didn't promise us like the office did. Some of the day nurses were wonderful, especially Heather...the night nurses are another story. My husband always told me how mean they got when you buzz them, at first I thought maybe it was his meds making him say this, but no, after befriending some of the other patients, they said pretty much the same thing...every day he had a complaint. I had serious issues with our case manager not correctly following our insurance instructions to extend his time at the facility...her attitude was very flippant & condesending...the social worker wasn't much better either. After the discharge, she made arrangements for a home health care company that was NOT in network to come visit my husband. It is the responsibility of the sociall worker to do the research, not ours...time of discharge is very confusing for patients & family,. the social worker should make it easier, communicate what is going to happen, etc. serious lack of communication between a lot of the employees...would I recommend this place...only after some terminations and better communication between business staff & nursing staff. As one of the employees told me "we aren't upstairs, we don't know what goes on, we can't see what is being done" but you should...you can & should spend more time with the staff who is providing the care to your guests/patients read more
