This has been on my bucket list for some time now. Vromage is a plant base vegan and cheese shop nest in a strip mall in Hollywood, the shop looks small from the outside, plus you have to pay if you park in the lot, to get around that just park in the real mall across the street you get 90 mins. Free with a validated from different stores within that mall. Youssef F. is the owner he was so kind friendly, and helpful in letting us samples a variety of cheeses, we sample the spicy cheddar, mozzarella, pepper jack and the brie they all were delicious very flavorful they had a soft tofu texture plus creamy, and purchasing the pecorino & the munchego. I had a great conversation with Youssef as he gave me a little history about his shop and the celebrities that purchase cheese here, Megan Markle which is now the Duchess of Sussex "Harry wife" he has her books throughout the store, plus Taraji P. Alright so vegan or non-dairy cheese can be downright nasty. I know it; I've experienced it. Note: We're not vegan. We just choose not to eat dairy. I can give you a whole rundown on how dairy isn't good for you but I'm just going to say this: Vromage allows you to enjoy cheese without dealing with dairy. Vromage is amazing. He makes a variety of cheeses out of nuts. Let me break it down: This place is On Point. The mozzarella is excellent; the creamy mozzarella is even better. The creamy mozzarella melts a tad bit easier and I really like its smooth consistency. The feta is flavorful. Feta purists will say it's not as strong in taste as "real" feta, but what is? It works well in a variety of dishes from eggs to tacos. Just trust me. The ricotta is excellent. I use it in lasagna and it really tastes like "real" ricotta. It really makes this dish get to that next level. Vromage isn't cheap or close (to us) but it is quality. The owner talks food ideas with me and always has something new for me to try. I was going to be in the area and when I put vegan into my Yelp app, the first thing I saw was Vromage. I was excited to try the cheese that is seems to have its own fan club. It certainly does have a great taste and is as close to eating real cheese as possible. Youseff, the owner, is quite a character. We had a great conversation as I ate my brie sandwich with tomato and lettuce. My sandwich was really good and eating it with the baguette gives it the extra saltiness that makes the cheese taste more like a dairy cheese. He gave me a sample of the ricotta and I purchased some ricotta along with some cheddar & pepperjack. I look forward to making some home made mac n cheese with my son who started me on this vegan diet. If I had one complaint is that I wish Youseff had a little help so that he could make the cheese in larger quantities so he could get the economy of scale down to where it would be a little cheaper. A 8 oz cube [which isn't very big, about 2" x 3"] will set up back over $20 but I guess quality costs. His sandwiches are above par, dont like how he touches everything. Sometimes i try not to watch him make my sandwich and ignore my OCDness. They have all these different types of specialty cheeses and make them all in house. The owner Youssef is hilarious and enjoy telling all the tales of his life. The owner is super sweet and obviously cares a lot about making a difference through sharing delicious vegan alternatives to cheese. I had their signature, the mozzarella caprese sandwich, and it was really wonderful. From the fresh bread to the magical texture and taste of the mozzarella. Almost a perfect meal. I was also able to taste a lot of their cheese! Pepperjack might have been my favorite, it has such a good kick to it, I would highly recommend. I was incredibly excited to try this place based on the reviews, and while I was not blown away the way others were, I am deeply impressed by the owners commitment to vegan cheese making, which is not a simple art. I visited on a Sunday evening, and he was sadly out of several items that I wanted to try, especially the pate. He made me a "spicy" cheddar sandwich, which was good but not worth the price tag. (Cheese and tomatoes on baguette for $12.50.) I did not find the cheddar particularly spicy, and it would not pass for real cheese. It wasn't bad, but it just lacked the wow factor I see from other reviews. The mozzarella and ricotta were more on point, but they're naturally relatively mild flavored. I hate to dismiss the entire operation on what I did have, but...it's what I had. I've been trying vegan cheese in various locations, even making it at home, and I know it's not easy to do. I'm obsessed. I stoped eating meat and cheese because I would feel really sick after I would eat it. I love the selection of vegan cheeses here. My favorites include the paper-jack and spicy cranberry. The owner is so sweet and will let you taste the different cheeses. Everything you read in the yelp reviews are spot on. Youssef serves up amazing array of vegan cheeses, made from various nut mills and seed milks. His latest creation is vegan paté, which is tremendously flavorful and it is to die for with crackers. The only downside of his shop may be the parking issue. I recommend parking across the street in the Trader Joe's complex, and pick up crackers to go with Vromages cheeses while you are at it. read more
