Shame on me for ignoring The Ridiculous Baking Company for as long as I did. My first experience with RBC left me unimpressed at the 2015 Vegan Oktoberfest. I got a Berliner Jelly Donut. I had high expectations because I love the vegan jelly donuts at The Donuttery. RBC's donut was pretty meh for me. To be fair, I didn't eat it until the next day and everyone knows that next day donuts are just not as good. So even though I gave RBC the benefit of the doubt, it took me two more years to finally hit them up again. They caught my attention at the Mar Vista Farmer's Market with their Vegan Cronuts. That's what I said: Vegan Cronut!!! I got the Cinnamon Cronut. Not only is it the most beautiful thing I've ever seen, it was also everything I dreamt it to be :) http://bit.ly/2xoU8cD No question, I hit up RBC at last weekend's Vegan Street Fair Nights. We ordered a Reuben Croissant. Did someone just say vegan croissant? Um, yeah. It's ridiculous! Not only is it filled with magic, it's has cheese and Herbivorous Butcher seitan. As soon as the Meateater BF took a bite, he said "We're buying another one of these!" Side note: The Meateter BF took way too many bites of my vegan croissant than I was willing to share. Amazingly, even in 2018, Los Angeles does not have a go-to, all-purpose, respectable vegan bakery. Every other major US city has one, and Los Angeles has a dedicated vegan business for virtually every other type of food, but for bakeries all we got is Erin McKenna's or Rising Hearts (both of which are gluten-free and neither of which are particularly good). The Ridiculous Baking Company, which sets up at various farmers markets, could be the running to start a brick-and-mortar shop. It certainly has the range and variety of products. That said, it's also not that good. I've been coming to them off-and-on for years. Most recently I got the spinach-mushroom hotpocket ($7) and a tempeh bacon hotpocket ($7). The spinach one was merely okay (albeit bland) and the tempeh bacon one was both sour and bland. We threw this one out after a few unappealing bites. The breakfast sandwich ($6) suffers from mealy bread, dry sausage patty and all-around mediocrity. The sugar donut ($3) is basically just a croissant in the shape of a donut. This isn't a bad thing, but don't bite into it expecting a Dunkin' replica (if you want that, go to Donut Friend in Highland Park or California Donuts on Hollywood Blvd). The almond croissant ($4) was superb, though---it's flaky, rich and filled with a wonderful almond paste. All in all, The Ridiculous Baking Company has mediocre products at high prices. read more

Wonderful baked goods! Luckily I found them at the Sunday Hollywood Farmers Market. They offer many pastries as well as warm breakfast sandwiches! While I was eye'ing the Chocolate Creme filled Croissant, I asked what hot foods were available. That morning they were serving Sausage Bacon Egg Muffin Sandwiches, Spinach and Mushroom Croissants, and Scramble Egg with Tempeh Bacon and Almond Cheese Croissants! These were all Vegan, ofcourse. My decision was clear when the nice guy said the magical word; tempeh. For $7 it seemed kind of pricey but then I held it both of my hands, it was huge. The croissant was very warm and calling me to eat it. I took a bite out of the flaky crust and made it to the toasty "egg" tofu scramble with savory almond cheese and smokey tempeh bacon bits. So good! It was well worth its price tag. I would definitely visit them again to try the rest of their treats whenever I am in Hollywood again! read more

I tried their breakfast sandwich and a cronut..Can I call it a cronut? Both met a delicious expectation. Neither was too small or too big. They're perfect. I finally made it to a farmers market and thought I try a few of their items. The everything bagels were a big mistake. The seasoning was really good, not too salty, and covered both sides of the bagel. However the texture was awful. I tried a piece of it plain with vegan cream cheese and it was terrible. I toasted the remainder and it was only mildly edible even with a ton of cream cheese. I had to toss the other one I bought. I don't need to eat gluten-free but if I did, this would not be my choice. The blueberry muffin was mediocre. I think I only found 4 or 5 small blueberries in the entire muffin. I wouldn't have called it a blueberry muffin. To end on a more upbeat note, the almond croissant was very tasty, nice and flaky, and the almond paste was delicious, even though it was mostly in one half of the croissant. The other side was pretty much plain inside. I had higher hopes, but I'm still happy I tried them out. read more

AMAZING!! We made a special point to come out for Sunday morning, and it did not disappoint! We went a little crazy and bought everything in sight. The vegan breakfast sandwich is not to be missed. I could eat that every morning! And all of the baked goods were stellar. My favorite was the almond croissant, which was my favorite before I went vegan too. Three stars for food, zero for service. The woman working the farmers market stand on 8/6 needs an attitude adjustment. I asked for the flavors of the baked goods (there are no signs, as other reviews mentioned). she rattled off the list as fast as possible, unable to stand talking to me a second longer than she had to. Like a kid who's fed up with his mom. "APPLEBERRYCHERRYPEACH *glare*." I ordered two breakfast sandwiches and she placed them on a single paper towel and handed it to me. I asked for a bag. "UMMMM they're kinda messy to wrap up." She paused, waiting for me to say never mind and retreat to leave her alone, then realized I wasn't about to pass on the bag. She resumed her service. "...But I guess I can figure it out." She wrapped one sandwich. as she was finishing up, I grabbed the second sandwich, ultimately deciding I just needed one wrapped up and would eat the other right then and there. She didn't like that and basically tried to snatch it out of my hand. "I said I can wrap it for you!!!!!" She said frantically. I declined and walked away. Meh (and those are my initials too). Definitely not ridiculous. Gluten free ginger muffin was ok, kinda gummy and sweet. How can you go fully wrong with that? Gluten full chocolate chip cookie tasted kinda sandy and overly salty. Line was long. As one guy worked this LONG slow line, someone from another booth offered up his daughter as extra labor. :) There were NO signs to clarify what was what...this slowed the lines even more. The cherry almond muffin had great natural taste, no bullshit cherry flavoring here, pairing gracefully with just the right amount of sweetness. The butternut squash rosemary muffin was so good I shed one single tear that fell gently into my coffee. Lucky for me someone bought the last peach raspberry muffin right before me in line or I'd probably have gotten that too and would now be passed out in the street due to a diabetic coma. It's like you're peddling cocaine in the form of vegan baked goods. Do you feel good about yourselves? Well, do you? This past Sunday I went to the Hollywood Farmer's Market and discovered this place. We got there kind of late most vendors were picking up and we saw some muffins on this vendor table that said GF My boyfriend is completely GF for health reasons so he was excited. It's places like the Ridiculous Baking Co. that actually make me happy that I live in LA. I first came across them at the Hollywood Farmers Market, when I saw they were serving up cronuts. CRONUTS, the croissant-donut hybrid that took the pastry world by storm and left a lot of vegans in its dust. I could barely contain myself, and had to confirm, "This is vegan, right?" "Oh yeah, everything's vegan!" "You're doing your country a great service, ma'am," tipping my hat and striding away, only to shove a perfectly buttery cronut into my face-hole as fast as I could. Oh sweet jesus. We are not worthy, RBC. As much as I love the Hollywood Farmers Market, I'd much rather walk to the Silverlake Farmers Market on Saturdays. It's a fraction of the size, but I can get mostly everything I need, plus I'll take walking over driving any day. RBC doesn't have a stand there, but I damn near died and went to heaven when I realized the Cafecito Organico stand sells RBC's blueberry muffins and croissants. Delicious coffee, a buttery croissant, and a long walk home is just heaven to me. Everything I've tried thus far has been to die for. I hope one day soon they can open a brick & mortar shop, so I can get my pastry on any day of the week, but for now they'll be my weekend treat. read more

A great local vegan company at the Sunday Hollywood Farmers Market. Located on Cosmo off of Selma. I showed up around noon, and there were only muffins left, so I would recommend getting there as early as possible to get the best selection. My Rosemary muffin was incredible-moist and flavorful without being too sweet. I feel $4 is a bit steep for a small muffin, but I am happy to support a local small business. Perfect with coffee. I was so excited to find this place last week. They have GLUTEN FREE Foccacia bread, baguettes, and more! That is SO exciting. I mean there are more and more options like breads, and bagels, which is great but no one has yet to make foccacia bread, or baguettes - which i loved so much because i could finally eat Banh Mi! I don't know what happened here but the gluten free bread and bagels have gone from excellent to abysmal for the past 6 months or so. I keep checking back and everything is just hard as rocks. The bagels used to be better than regular gluten bagels! Airy and light and wonderful. Now they are dense masses of dryness that taste bad, have horrible texture and will leave a leaden feeling in your stomach for hours and make you feel miserable. What a shame. Used to be so good. Everything we've purchased in the past few months has been thrown in the garbage, and this place is not cheap! I've finally given up. It used to be one of the reasons I'd go to the Hollywood farmers market rather than other ones, but now I don't think I'll bother. read more

I'm giving the two stars only because 1) I want to support vegan places like this one,2) they were nice but my experience was really bad. We bought one mushrooms spinach filled pastry and one chocolate corassonet. Both doughs were oily and not airy at all and the filling for the mushroom spinach was just tasteless, no salt no spiced . Amazing! Being allergic to dairy and soy, I thought I would never come across a fresh baked croissant ever again, let alone any delicious variation of it! Thank you for your existence on Earth- the pastries that I got a chance to eat were delicious and I couldn't stop eating! Next time I will try the spinach mushroom or the muffins or the fruit filled croissants for sure! My wife and I bought a loaf of the gluten free "focaccia" this week, excited to find yet another vegan bakery in LA. We cook all the time, and are always looking for local ingredients to add to our dishes. When we purchased it, I said, "gluten free focaccia, that's tough. Ok then". Well, let's just say I was correct. It must be tough to do focaccia gluten free because this bread was horrible. We eat a wide variety of vegan baked goods, some standard, and others GF, but this bread reminded me of the terrible, dry, dense GF breads that were around 10-15 years ago. With all of the amazing options for vegan baked goods, and for GF stuff in LA, don't waste your time and money on the focaccia here. The generous layer of herbs on top wasn't enough to save this bread from the trash, even after committing to using it for sandwiches. Sad to see a vegan place giving plant based foods a bad name. Maybe other menu items are better, but the focaccia needs to be retired. read more

Tried a vegan Almond Croissant at the Culver City Farmers Market ($4) and OMG it was amazing! Crunchy flaky crust, moist middle and the perfect amount of sweetness. It was a little salty at some parts but overall it was a great snack. I cant wait to try their other baked goods. read more

I've been Gluten Free since a while and the Bread options in the Grocery Store are horrid. Last weekend I found this amazing Bakery Stand at the Hollywood Farmers Market. Met the owner of the bakery and he was quite condescending...meaning he told me he sells "hundreds" of Organic Croissants within 2 hours of opening on Sundays at the Farmers market and runs out of everything by 9am. So then he promised he would text me to "book" a croissant on Sundays but he never did...also the girls working there on Sundays are like 12 years old straight from middle school and they really luck professionalism and care for the customer. On the bright side the chocolate croissant is really good and if it's true it's organic that would be excellent. read more

OMG vegan pastries to die for, I can't even decide what I love the most - the phenomenal croissants, the incredible breakfast pockets, or the delicious muffins! I LOVE IT ALL! I've given it to non vegans who were blown away and couldn't believe it.. I send all of my LA friends to check it out. I recently left LA and whenever i have visitors from LA I send them with a list so that I can get my fix and freeze it. The ridiculous baking co has spoiled me for life!!!! I'm used to seeing them at the Mar Vista Farmers Market. When he's not there, I really am disappointed. LOVE the gluten-free bread and try and buy a loaf a week. Amazing. LOVE LOVE LOVE the gluten free ciabatta rolls. They are really amazing the way they make these things gluten free. I also agree with another reviewer, that I would really like to see the list of INGREDIENTS on the label of the product. I'm sensitive to so many ingredients so I would like see what I am buying and eating. Could we PLEASE have the ingredients listed on the label? Thank you. read more
