We recently discovered this hidden gem. From the exterior, this place looks a bit lonely. We even thought it was closed. It's tucked in the corner with poor lighting so it's easy to assume that it is. We decided to give it a try after craving ramen but not wanting to make the drive out. The host is very hospitable. It's just one man running the whole place yet he manages to balance customers and take out. We were pleasantly surprised by the food. The broth is rich yet balanced. It's not overly salty or oily. The pork? Perfectly made. It's tender yet not charred to the point of being not edible. It also just has enough fat where it doesn't overpower. As for the noodles, they're cooked a bit firm which I love. It's not mushy. The chicken karaage is good too. Perfectly seasoned and fried. The sauce compliments it perfectly. We were genuinely impressed by our food and came back again to see if it's consistent, which we can report that it is. What we would love to see here is a change of aesthetics. It's just very dark inside. It's dark red clashing with black. You also have the same colored bowls and utensils. Brighter colors and minimalist decor would do this place wonders. Went to Wabi Sabi with a friend on a weekday night, and honestly, the plaza felt really quiet and almost deserted. From the outside, it was also hard to tell if the restaurant was even open because the inside looked so dark. I'll admit, I almost suggested leaving after seeing some less-than-great reviews on Yelp. But since my friend picked the restaurant, we decided to give it a try. Turns out, we were actually the only customers there that night! We ordered: Red Tonkatsu Ramen Miso Tonkatsu Ramen Both ramen were actually tastes okay, the broth was flavorful, although I found it a little on the oily side, so I didn't end up drinking much of the soup. Red Tonkatsu got spicy kick but not that spicy as others mentioned. One thing I noticed was that the pork wasn't the traditional Japanese chashu. Instead, they use a pan-fried pork belly, which is still as tasty. The service was attentive and friendly, and since the restaurant was so quiet, we had a very peaceful dinner and plenty of time to catch up. More like 3.5 stars but I rounded up to 4. An unassuming kitchy spot that truly delivers on the food! While my group were one of two parties in the relatively empty restaurant, we were pleasantly surprised by the incredible flavors and generous portions. Spicy garlic edamame was well balanced with a great kick, the spicy tuna appetizers were refreshing. My favorite item was the Eggplant tofu dish that came as a whole bento with furikake rice, salad, and steamed veggies. The ramen broth was also rich and hearty without being too salty. The broth was rich and flavorful without being too heavy. The noodles were perfectly cooked and soaked up the broth well. The chicken was tender and juicy, and the marinated egg had a soft, creamy yolk. The fresh toppings added great texture and balance. Everything tasted fresh and worked well together. Our family usually has leftovers when we go out for ramen, but this time every bowl was empty. That never happens. Everything was so good we didn't leave a single bite. Stopped by here on a Tuesday afternoon with a coworker after finding out nearby Season's Cafe was closed on Tuesdays and this was the next closest restaurant we'd be interested in trying. Restaurant is clean and interestingly decorated. Only one person handled the front of the restaurant, difficult to get ahold of when initially ordering and at the end when getting the check. The menu is reasonably large with the essentials of a ramen restaurant covered such as gyoza, karaage and takoyaki albeit at higher than average prices. There is also no lunch menu available like most ramen places in nearby Rowland Heights or just most sit-down restaurants in the area do. We settled on ordering the same thing which was the Tonkotsu ramen, spice level 3 on their very interesting 0-3-7 spice level. Noodles were an average quality, the slice of pork was more of a chunk but was actually one of the better ones I've had. The Tonkotsu ramen came out looking much more like a Spicy Miso ramen. Did not know if that was intentional. AIM LOWER ON THE SPICE SCALE IN CASE YOU WERE WONDERING. My coworker mentioned the spices seemed more reminiscent of Indian spices than Japanese spices which made it difficult to slurp ramen without the spices hitting the back of your throat in an uncomfortable way. Overall acceptable if you're in the North Diamond Bar area and don't want to travel towards Walnut or Rowland Heights for better ramen, but this will not be on the list for work lunch options. read more

We were looking for a ramen place to try and with the help of Yelp decided on Wabi Sabi. It was pretty empty for a Friday night. Perhaps because it's located in a not so high traffic area. As we entered it smelled like a smoking lounge and reeked of cigarette smoke. Not really a bad thing because it reminded me of the old ramen houses...very nostalgic. Although I would prefer a smoke free environment. Ordered the miso tonkatsu ramen and was pleasantly surprised. Now I don't have problems with profanity, but that's all this music was playing in the background while eating. Another group ate, commented about it, and laughed awkwardly. The decor, as well as most of the art in there, is made with AI, which is pretty evident. The roll I got was pretty good, as for the ramen... A beard hair was in it, which put me off a lot. There was maybe only a group of four and me, and the phone was also going off a lot, and the waiter didn't seem to care one bit about it since it went off several times with him not checking it. We ordered a regular salmon roll and spicy tuna roll for apps and they were terrible. The server was so slow and even took forever to get me water. The red ramen was flavorful, but I requested no green onions, and when it came out... the ramen was full of green onions. How do you not remember my order especially when I was the ONLY customer in the restaurant? Lol. I also got a spicy tuna tempura crunch roll to go, and it was quite frankly not appealing at all. The only thing in the roll was the tuna, and the tuna was fully cooked. It was so disgusting, I had to throw it away. I am glad to find out that there is a new ramen place opened in Diamond Bar. This place used to be an Indian restaurant and now it is a Japanese ramen place and serves popular dishes such as takoyaki, sushi rolls, teriyaki, gyoza, and etc. I ordered spicy tonkotsu ramen with charshu. It was very delicious and flavorful. The broth was on the richer side and the noodles were perfectly cooked. I really like the older lady who used to work here when the Indian restaurant was operating. She still works at this new ramen place and I think she works in the kitchen and comes out to make sure if the food is well served and asks if I need anything. I'm really picky with my ramen, but this was quite delicious and satisfies my ramen cravings. The perfect meal for a cold day. Prices are fair, good quality noodles and broth. Obviously not the best ramen I've had, but the service and ambience made our visit worth while. Our waitress and server was very attentive and friendly, which in my opinion is the most important part. One of us was vegan, so she ordered the red spicy vegan ramen that was perfectly creamy, spicy, and loaded with a variety of vegan toppings. I wish I took a picture of the Ramen before I scarfed it all down! I thought the ramen bowl was quite nice. Very flavorful broth and the pork chasu was well charred very flavorful. I got the chicken broth "level 3" as they call it. For me this was a perfect level of spiciness. The toppings were all good as well. I would definitely get that again and I think I would ask for extra broth or maybe less noodles. The noodles were good, I just really liked the broth. They were very accommodating and steamed the pork gyoza for me. I think next time I would just get it the way they do it normally. The gyoza was good, the ponzu sauce was ok. I also got a spicy tuna roll, which was decent. Pretty standard stuff there. I did not try any of the other rolls but they had a good number of options. Seemed like typical fare. Went here last night with a couple of my good friends and the food overall was honestly just okay but missing a lot when it came to the food itself. Ramen was ok had the chicken creamy miso ramen and nothing to really write home about, the broth was light but lacked the richness that creamy ramen broth is supposed to have which gave away that the time needed to be spent on it wasn't actually spent on it. The chicken was ok as far as the char and portion. My friend ordered the spicy tuna roll and it already looked a bit suspect as the tuna itself just looked faded and depleted. Tried a bite and it was all I needed. Absolutely terrible, bland, and no spice whatsoever. Was waiting for the kick that never came. Ordered their caterpillar roll and was honestly not impressed as I encountered more bland and lifeless composition. This place would be ok in a tight pinch and I am using it generously.
