I came by HoAloha to pick up some lunch as I was picking up drinks and snacks next door at Smoking Tiger, and the aroma wafting over from HoAloha brought me in. The menu is pretty large and they also offer a catering menu. There are many kinds of appetizers like cheesy fries with your choice of protein, and many varieties of musubis. They also sell noodles (noodle soups and garlic noodles) as well as tacos. It was a Tuesday so I decided to try their daily special Fried Chicken Plate with mac salad. I also ordered the HoAloha Chicken Mix Plate with green salad. Both plates come with 2 scoops of rice. Food was ok, but I've honestly had better Hawaiian food. First thing I noticed was that the rice they serve is jasmine rather than the Calrose rice that is usually served with Hawaiian food. Some people don't care, but I'm kind of a rice nerd. It's like using basmati rice in your sushi. You can argue that it's still rice, but it's weird. The fried chicken was hit or miss. Some pieces were good, some were dried out and hard. The sauce that came with it was good. The mac salad was very slippery compared to other Hawaiian mac salads I've had. I kept dropping it everytime I tried to have a bite. The texture and taste reminds me of the mac salad that comes in the tub from the deli at the market. As for the chicken mix plate, the Katsu was pretty thin and dry also. The Katsu sauce was weak - very watery and tasteless. The BBQ chicken was pretty good however. For some good BBQ chicken in the area, I'd rather go around the corner to Jinza.
We ordered bbq chicken, chicken katsu, and so musubi. The katsu tasted like it was fried in old oil and the macaroni salad tasted like it was made with rancid milk. Unfortunately, this was very upsetting and we didn't eat much of the rest. The spam musubi was very good but the rest was off putting sadly. We will not be back here.
A great place with daily specials and service was pretty quick! I came quick for a lunch loco moco special, it is $11.99 (no drinks) on Fridays and each day is different. They also offer other usual Hawaiian bbq dishes such as spam masubi. We had limited time for lunch period so we had to go back home to eat which is far (we live in Arcadia). I would like to say this would've been amazing if we ate at the restaurant but my highlights were the flavorful macaroni salad, salty and slightly sweet with a nice tang! The dish was very plentiful and satisfying, the meat and eggs must be eaten with the gravy, always mix around to get different palates of flavor. I wish they gave more gravy, there was a lot more rice than I thought and it would've been nice to have with gravy.
I got their short ribs plate and it was pretty underwhelming in terms of the quality of the meat and the portions. Personally i've gotten more portions of meat at other places. The meat was pretty hard to chew. Flavoring was okay. Whole thing with a drink was a little over $25. Probably wouldn't return as there are better options for hawaiian bbq.
Service was fine. I called for a pick up order and they picked up the phone quick. I just ordered 2 different types of musubi (katsu and regular spam). I have to say, they were a bit dissapointing. The musubi was so overfilled with dry rice and the seaweed didn't even wrap around any of them. The cut of it did not help it's case. For whoever did it, I reccommend a musubi mold and saran wrap to keep it together when you cut it. I think I'll stick to making my own for now.
The garlic shrimp plate was so delicious!! Seasoning was on point and portions are good. The chicken katsu with egg is very filling as well. Def will be coming back here
I was craving Hawaiian food and suggested this place to my boyfriend who was down to give it a try. We were both disappointed with the quality and quantity of food for the price point. I had Kalua Pork and Cabbage and he had a mixed BBQ plate. They were both pretty underwhelming. The flavor was not there for either entrees, the Mac salad had no taste, and the kalbi my boyfriend had was very thin. Portions were lacking. I wish I could've loved this place because I would love to support local, but unfortunately I can't. Unfortunately it's probably best to go to a chain like L&L .. bigger portions and can neva go wrong! I always have extras for another meal for about the same price. Our cashier who rang us up and probably took our phone order was nice though. He was kind.

Service was prompt. The plate was something else though, and I mean that in a good way. When I had ordered the fried chicken plate, as was the deal of the day, I hadn't even expected popcorn chicken. This popcorn chicken actually tasted pretty close to the usual taiwanese style you might find at a boba shop. Portions were generous, too. And for the price of the daily special it was well worth it.

Not only was the portion pretty big, but the bbq chicken was super tender and charred just enough for my tastes. When it come char-grilled, I'm a person who doesn't like a lot at all. I just want like some of it charred for the crunch but the rest of the outside left tender. And this fulfilled the criteria perfectly. I thought the ambience was okay. The spot was kind of small, but there were still a lot of two-tops and it was pricier than I thought it would be, even with a daily deal. $5 for a fountain drink is kind of up there. But the service was good and the food was top notch so when I get my next craving for a good bowl, this is where I'm going to think of.

First time visiting. I have the Hawaiian BBQ plate and my husband has the chicken katsu plate. Each about $15. I think it tastes pretty good. They gave us two sauces. Chicken katsu is a bit dry but very crispy. I'll give something else a try next time. I might try a few masubi, which they have many variety. Place looks okay. Service was decent and fairly fast.
Pretty darn good! Found this place on Yelp, happy it's near home, so we decided to try it out. We ordered: Chicken Katsu Plate Brulee Spam Musubi Bbq Chicken Bowl Bbq Beef Bowl Garlic Shrimp Plate Bbq Beef Cheese Fries We enjoyed all of the food. Our kids dusted their bowls and us adults killed our plates. I would totally come back again. We came a little too close to closing time so the kids were bummed because we didn't get to play their lil claw game and order shaved ice. So we'll def be back. Happy to support a small business with solid food! (My only critique is their rice was a little dry, but maybe it was an off day, lol)
It was honestly a really good and filling meal. Chicken was fresh and the sauce on it had such a nice level of heat, it you wanted extra spicy add hot sauce but it's delicious on its own. The service was great as I asked questions and the cashier was nice to let me know what were the better options. I came 2 ish and it's wasn't packed and I was not waiting for my food long at all. I price was pretty good is you want a better option compared to eating greasy fast food

I'm a huge fan of their brûlée spam musubi. It's honestly the reason I keep coming back. This time I decided to switch it up and try the loco moco, and unfortunately it was really disappointing. I love a good loco moco, but this one just didn't hit. The beef patties were overly dry, and there was barely any gravy, which made the whole dish feel pretty unsatisfying. The mac salad was good, but overall the meal didn't feel worth the $16-$18 price point. That said, I do plan on coming back because the musubis really are that good. I'll just stick to what they do best or try something different next time. Parking is super easy since it's in a shopping area that never seems too busy, which is always a plus. read more

Vegan review: HoAloha is a fast casual Hawaiian restaurant with a few vegan options. There is seared tofu plate or fire tofu and tofu fries. They also sell dole whips, shaved ice, and specialty sodas too. I ordered the seared tofu plate with white rice and salad. They gave me macaroni salad, which I can't eat. When I pointed this out they brought me out a new plate quickly. I appreciated this. The tofu was good and they gave me what seemed like almost a full block of tofu. It has some kind of teriyaki sauce on it. The decor inside is cute. Plants, jewelry, and other gifs are sold at the cash register. read more

Y'all trippin. I love Hawaiian food. But I'm very picky. I can't eat it from anywhere. I was in the area and I was hungry. I'm always in this area and I wanted to try this place so I did. So glad. I read some bad reviews but I hope mine helps. I got the chicken and katsu plate. With rice and Mac salad. Everything was delicious. The chicken was soft and flavorful. The katsu was crunchy and fresh. The Mac salad was creamy and well seasoned. Service here is basic. Menu, order, sit lol this place is clean and well decorated. Next time I come, I'm bringing family/friends. Highly recommend. Prices are fair. Parking is cool. Plenty of options of you don't k ow what you want. Anyway, Lee up the good work guys. So many businesses have come and go from this plaza and from that spot particularly. Seeing the high reviews, I wanted to check out their food and you can never go wrong with some good Hawaiian BBQ. We got the: 1) HoAloha Katsu Mix + Mac Salad: -Comes with a mix of their katsu meats including bbq beef, bbq short ribs, and chicken katsu. -It's a huge portion that's easily shared with others. -The short ribs and bbq beef were seasoned nicely and not too chewy. The chicken katsu was a tad drier than I would have liked it, but not so bad since there's lots of sauces and the delicious mac salad to balance it out. 2) Brulee Spam Musubi (4 pieces) -This sounded fancy and "brulee" isn't something you usually associate with spam musubi, so I had to order this especially since my bro is a huge musubi enjoyer. -It's a grilled spam musubi with spicy mayo and furikake on top. Not bad but nothing super fancy or special that you can add yourself on at home if you already have the condiments. 3) Crispy Beef Pockets (2 pieces): -This is something that I have never seen at a Hawaiian restaurant before so I knew I had to order this, especially since it was so highly rated in other reviews. -It's beef, scallion, and egg wrapped in spring roll skin and fried. -To me it was mediocre, just alright. Issue is for some reason my mom disliked it so much and kept saying it wasn't good at all. Don't know why her reaction was so exaggerated lol. -It is crispy due to the wonton wrapper like exterior, but a bit oily too. They were really thin and small. A very thinly spread amount of beef inside. Overall just ok. 4) Hawaiian Blue: -Tropical refreshing drink. A bit sweet, but just let the ice melt and you're good. 5) Crispy Spam Musubi (2 pieces): -Standard fried spam musubi. Can't really go wrong with this and it was the tastier of the musubi that we got. 6) Fried Chicken Bowl: -Karaage/popcorn chicken bowl. -Decent amount of chicken, once again a bit too dry, but nothing a bit of sauce won't help. Overall not bad, a bit pricey, but worth a visit if you don't want to go to a chain like L&L or Ono. read more

Bbq combination - 4/5 I was in the area, so decided to finally try HoAloha. I tried the bbq combination plate which a good mix of bbq beef rib, chicken, and bbq beef. The marinade was tangy and sweet yet also salty, and the rice was fluffy and provided good contrast to the meat. The macaroni salad was refreshing like a spring day, and lightened down the strength of meal flavor. If you are in the area and want something different, HoAloha provides a good option. read more

Do you sometimes crave Hawaiian Bbq and want to order some musubis? Well if you do this place is legit bomb and has so much variety in Pomona. Inside this strip mall is HoAloha and they are serving up some traditional Hawianstyle food. I haven't been to Hawaii in ages and we saw this place while enjoying boba one night and decided we should try it out next time during the daytime. Came here for lunch and ordered a variety of musubis which is a Japanese-style rice ball that has meat, and rice and is wrapped in delicious seaweed. We tried spam musubi, deep-fried spam musubi, chicken katsu musubi, and shrimp musubi. It comes with 4 pieces and I did share this with two other people. The one's that we had was so good and tasty! Also ordered my favorite macaroni salad on the side and a garlic shrimp plate. Everything tasted so delicious and I would say I am now a fan! I want to try more things off the menu. I got this order for takeaway since our home is only a few minutes away from here. But they do have some nice tables and chairs for you to dine in! The lady that took our order was also really nice and it was super fast. Can't wait and come back to try more options. Oh yeah, and the cucumber mint lemonade is fire. Love it. read more

Very nice experience! Food was really good, reasonably priced, fast and the place was very clean. Came here for quick grub and got 2 different plates. The whole restaurant is modern simple and very clean. The staff there was very nice and helpful. We ordered 2 plates. The food came out pretty fast. I really loved the chicken katsu. Battered perfectly not too much, crisp on the outside and chicken still tender inside. The bbq beef was also pretty good, sauce was delicious, not too sweet or too salty. Good portion size! Looking for a quick dinner, and kiddo chose Hawaiian food. Quite a few items to choose from on the menu, and they also have shave ice and Dole Whip. We decided on: 1) Seared Tofu plate - There were quite a few slices of tofu. Kiddo said it wasn't as crispy as she thought it would be and noted it had good flavor. 2) BBQ Mix Plate - parents shared this dish and it was enough for them. Mom noted the shortribs were too chewy for her, but she liked the beef. 3) Garlic shrimp plate - I think I was expecting the shrimp to be sautéed rather than fried. However, the garlic flavor came through. The food, overall, was ok. Nothing in particular stood out. read more

I saw that this place opened recently near Cal Poly Pomona and was craving Hawaiian food. I chose to get the katsu mix (15.95) and brûlée spam musubi ($6.95). The mix came with chickens katsu, bbq beef, and short ribs. The rice was mushy and too wet. The beef was chewy, but I did like the katsu more. Their dipping sauces for the meat went well with them. The spam musubi was good, the sauce was smoky and the furikake sprinkled on top was good. The staff is nice and the place is clean. read more
The crispy beef pocket is a nice delight. Light wonton like wrap, crispy on the outside with juicy meat in the inside. The sweet and sour sauce is perfect with it. The aloha bbq mix plate is great if you want a variety of short rib, beef and chicken. The aloha fried chicken plate comes with a Sriracha mayo like sauce which is a great combination. It does not feel as heavy as most hawaiian bbq places. Highly recommend and support small businesses:) read more
Food: we ordered the brûlée spam masubi as well as the HoAloha katsu mix plate to share. The ambiance was nice. It was very clean inside. We came here to have dinner with our little one. They had high chairs stowed in the back available for us to use. I did ask if i could have a modification to one of the protein items on my mix plate to sub for tofu. They weren't able to accommodate that. The plate came with chicken katsu, bbq beef and short rib. The katsu was light and crispy. The bbq beef had a sweet soy marinated flavor. The short rib was pretty good. It was tender. It was served with a side of two scoops of rice and option of Mac salad or green salad. We opted for Mac salad. The brûlée masubi was pretty tasty. I liked the presentation of the brûlée spicy Mayo and furikake. My gripe about the masubi was that it's advertised as 4 pieces per serving. Truthfully, it's 2 whole masubi cut in half and served as 4 pieces. For that reason, I found it to be a little more on the costly for the serving. read more

Came by after class today to try the new Hawaiian Spot near campus and was very happy I did! I ordered the Brûlée masubi and Cucumber Mint lemonade. Both were very tasty. The drink had plenty of fresh herb. The sauce on the masubi was so good! In the future id ask for a side of it as well since it'd be perfect to dip it in! I also look forward to trying the full plates. The interior was clean and nicely decorated. The service was polite as well. Over all, great place! read more

Decided to check this place out since my coworkers and I were looking for lunch places. I had Ono Hawaiian Bbq recently and wanted to see how this place compared. The inside is pretty tiny but there is a good amount of parking here shared amongst other restaurants/buildings in this plaza. I decided to order the Katsu Bowl and was able to get 10% off my order due to the check-in via Yelp. There is a bbq special every day of the week for $11.99 but I wasn't sure if I could eat that much. Sadly, my bowl was SO TINY (see size comparison to Katsu plate). I could have gotten a Katsu plate instead for $2 more or the bbq special. Anyways, food wise it wasn't too bad-- the chicken was tender and the bread crumbs were CRISP. Usually, Katsus are soggy so I really enjoyed the katsu here. I wasn't a big fan of the sauce as the teriyaki sauce tasted too sweet which is unexpected. Overall, this is a solid place but I think Ono is better. And note to self, I need to order the plate next time I visit instead of the bowl. read more
