Food is phenomenonal and the service is exceptional, especially if served by Bridgette! Instantly feel like family. Welcomed, greeted and seated. Come hungry, leave comatose and satisfied. The Creme Brulee Waffles literally will have you in a food coma because of a foodgasm! Beyond delish! Custard oozing out of the center with the signature glass bruleed top on each waffle. Comes with fresh strawberries, which are definitely needed to break the richness and whipped cream. The Smores will send you to Heaven and back! Mounds of toasted marshmallows with drizzled chocolate. The Honey Pecan has a waffle filled with chopped pecans, honey and Maple syrup. The juices are organic. We enjoyed Guava (FAV) and Mango. They have a bevvy of alcohol-infused brunch drinks, like the Mocha Gin. Think Hot Chocolate with drizzled chocolate, whipped cream and Gin. This place is serious about Waffles, Service and creating a fantastic experience for you to savor! Only 1 bathroom so govern yourselves accordingly. Street parking available. Great, peaceful and chic neighborhood.
Outstanding food and excellent service!! They have a wide choice of savory or sweet waffle dishes on the menu, or you can just build your own. Their waffles are the best I've had - the perfect sweetness and texture to go with everything on the menu. I had the eggs benedict waffle which was delicious! They also have a great selection of artisan teas and specialty coffees. I highly recommend checking them out for an amazing breakfast or brunch!
This place had a ton of potential. They serve whole and half waffles which is perfect for sharing and tasting multiple menu items. The waffle combinations all sounded great and most of the ones we ordered were lovely. The issue was the food took an extremely long time (waffles were the only thing that required cooking as the toppings were pretty standard) and by the time they came out, they were pretty cold. Pesto Chicken Waffle: the chicken was shredded and mashed with the pesto which was AMAZING. It had great flavor but the cheese was already hardened and the whole waffle was cold. Prosciutto Cheese: this one was probably my favorite of the ones we got. However, there was barely any topping on the waffle. It would have been great warm and with more topping. S'mores: this was pretty bland in my opinion. The chocolate was overpowering and it was not worth it in my opinion. Guava and cheese: I was super excited for this one and was disappointed. The cheese was just hard cubes thrown on. The guava paste was the same and was very artificially sweetened which was too much in my opinion. Could have scraped it together myself with cheap ingredients.
Stopped by at this place for some breakfast/lunch and my boyfriend and I got a orange and mango juice. They were really good drinks! The orange juice tasted freshly squeezed. I then ordered a full waffle with Nutella and strawberries and it was very good. I also ordered a side of eggs and bacon. I wouldn't get the bacon it was really hard like it was over cooked and it was sitting on a plate for a long time before I had even ordered it. Overall this place was expensive for some waffles and eggs. It's good but not to die for. If you don't come to this location your not missing out on much.
Great locally owned spot!! Amazing service and quality of food. The owner was so kind in getting to know us, sharing about their restraints history, Puerto Rico and explaining the food options when I shared I had some dairy restrictions. Their vegan waffle is amazing and well balanced in the sense it can be paired with savory or sweet. I had a savory dish with the egg and I was so surprised. I will miss these waffles when I go back home.
The best food I ate in Puerto Rico!! I arrived about an hour before closing an went to pull open the door which I found to be locked. Turns out due to Covid, the restaurant has their customers order online. You decide if your going to dine in (which I did). Online you'll enter your table number an how you want to pay. You get several emails confirming your order, that your order is being prepared, an when it's done. Very simple! All the waffles are half size portions for roughly $7.18. I chose a savory (Gorgonzola Basil) an sweet (Creme Brulee). It was Sooo good! I also got an ice Chai tea which was the opposite! The hostess/server was a sweetheart! I will definitely be back next time I'm in Puerto Rico. My order totaled $20 with tip an if your looking for a place to park, try the La Puntilla Parking. It only cost me $1.75 for about an hour an is a 9 minute walk to the Waffle Era.
Amazing waffles! They have a vegan and Fluten Free batter --- but it runs out, so call ahead. If you're lucky enough to get a GF Waffle, you'll be in heaven! They've got a huge tea selection, and some of the best Ice Coffee in Old San Juan. They have good COVID protocols - including ordering from your table via QR code.
So I had been eating to try this place since we arrived in PR we finally made it our 3rd day here. Upon arrival it was wait but they have no reservation system you just stand outside the restaurant (no one is let inside) and wait tour turn until a table is ready. It took about 30 min then after about 5min of being seated the waitress told us we have to order online they only bring the food out to you that's it. So we ordered and pairs online and probably about 30 minutes later she finally brought our food. I order the cream cheese with pecans half waffle and bacon. The meal was delish but the waiting process could be a deterrence.
Food was amazing we had a party of 5 and all together we tried the chicken pesto waffle, the Elvis, crème brûlée, Bridget special, spicy mañanero, and caneloide. They were ALL AMAZING. The plates were empty in 10 minutes. Service was great they explain the menu thoroughly and you can tell they are passionate about the food they bring out. There pesto sauce was great, and they make all there sauces in house! I'm upset I can't bring this restaurant back home with me. Definitely stop here and grab some waffles!
We had a really nice breakfast here this morning. We both had a half size of the big breakfast, which had the best Manchego cheese and prosciutto with an egg on a waffle. It was hard to decide between the green eggs and ham, and the big breakfast, but the big breakfast won. The coffee was delicious and service was extremely good. Our server was Nicholle and she was great. The space it was really lovely, and we felt very at home. I'm sorry we waited until the last day to come here because I'd love to have a return visit. One more reason to return to San Juan. This restaurant is on San Jose, very close to the Plaza del Armes. It's a great location.

I was Reading a couple travel blogs and this place came up more than once. Intrigued we decided to give it a try. We were surprised at how much we enjoyed our breakfast. It was by far one of if not the best breakfast I have had. We ordered the salmon breakfast, a chicken pesto waffle and a waffle with vanilla Ice cream for our youngest. Not only was the flavor on point so was our server Bridget. If you are ever visiting Puerto Rico do not think twice, just GO. It was an amazing experience. Waffle-Era was a great stop for a quick breakfast. Now obviously judging by the name of the place they specialize in waffles, which we ordered a half banana/strawberry waffle and the Puerto Rican bread. The waffle was simple and didn't have much wow factor in terms of flavor, but the PR bread was ah-mazing! It was sweet and packed the right punch with every bite. I most certainly need the recipe or order more next time I have the opportunity to visit. The place itself was low key and had a lid back vibe, and the waitress were friendly and attentive. read more

Waffle was delicious! Coffee was a light. Service was good, you order by phone and they serve you at the table. Tables outside with space between them, so you feel comfortable. Check out super fast by ATH Movil. Very reasonably price! read more

my wife and i ate there before we went on or cruise. the food was amazing. i had the elvis. it had bacon, peanut butter and bananas. it was a game changer. my wife i think had a blt on a waffle. it was gluten free too. we were waited on my super nice and accommodating waitress. the place was so good, we made a point to go there again when we returned. this is truly a must go. read more

Best waffles I've had. We had both half serves, seemed to be enough to fill up without feeling too bloated for the rest of the exploring of Old San Juan. The fruit breakfast waffle dish was delicious, perfect amount of toppings but the real reason for the 5 stars was the "Elvis". Peanut butter, banana, perfectly cooked bacon bits with maple syrup to top. What a combo. Perfectly presented, quickly served and really reasonable priced. We also had some of the teas available and it was a perfect finish to breakfast. Girls waiting we're very welcoming and local knowledge flowed. Thanks! read more
I really enjoyed this place for breakfast. They have many options including breakfast items, savory, sweet, build your own. We ordered the egg/prosciutto and egg/smoked salmon. For both, we ordered the half portion which was plenty. Mine, the salmon, came with cherry tomatoes and capers, a pouched egg.. I loved it. My kid ordered a sweet waffle with bananas and chocolate sauce. Coffee is also very good. I had coffee with milk which waa expresso with steamed milk. Yummy. The staff was very friendly, answered all our questions as well as requests. I'm not a big fan of waffle and sure this place made me chance my mind. Will go back next time in San Juan. read more
Delicious waffles and beautifully made as well! I'm a Celiac and was so happy to find gluten free waffles here. This was a perfect breakfast for me. They prepared the coffee amazingly and it hit the spot! I would recommend the salmon and pami's - super yummy! You can tell the chefs put a lot of love into each preparation. Try the teas too! Worth the wait, but steeped to perfection. read more

La Waffle-Era is the perfect combination between a Tea House & a Waffle House. I had the pecan waffles with ice cream and I enjoyed the whole thing. The staff was very friendly and helpful, even tho they were very busy, food did not take long to come out, but it did provide the perfect time for my table to finish our teapot. Really recommend this place. read more
Minus half a star 3.5 stars is a more accurate for this establishment. This was a surprising little spot for several reason. 1) on a Saturday morning. No line. No wait. Instantly seated. 2) it is exactly what you would expect going to "Old San Juan" 3) even though it was not very busy the wait for food was quite long. The menu had both Spanish and English translation. The menu was a little odd in the way there seemed to be more lunch options than breakfast. This place also has a lot of tea options which you can get hot or cold. And they are made to order so it will take a minute to get them. The food was ultimately pretty good. I had the "big breakfast" The main downfall for my dish was that my poached egg was heavily overdone. But the combination of the sweet from the syrup, the savory from the prosciutto, and the decadence for the egg was all very good. (With the exception of the egg which would have been better if done correctly) And finally I felt the price was a bit much. 17.50 for my entree was maybe $2 too much. All in all good place. I would go back but I probably wouldn't order an egg. read more

This is a small restaurant, but their food is really good. I recommend the crème brûlée waffles. And the cappuccinos are also really good. The place was a bit short staffed when I was there. One lady seemed to be waiting tables for the whole restaurant. She's probably overworked, so be sure to leave a good tip read more
First review in Puerto Rico.... Breakfast breakfast breakfast.... this place is super inviting for that, and so we did... Waffles, coffee and tea! What a better way to start your day. We started with a Puerto Rican coffee and it was delicious... try it! Please avoid Starbucks... go Local! Then we ordered 2 salty waffles: salmon and eggs & cheese, both were delicious and well prepared. We ordered half size waffles because we also wanted to try a sweet one. We ordered the palms. Overall the salty waffles were amazing, the sweet ones were ok, but too sweet for my taste I was expecting something more "Caribbean" lol. The service was amazing, waiter was super helpful with suggestions. I wish I could come back, however, we need to explore this island one bite at a time! read more

Consider me a fan. I was blown away by the food, decor and service. It was my last day in San Juan. I got the waffle with the yogurt and fruit as well as a side of bacon. It's probably one of the best waffles I've had. My only complaint is that the waitress said to order a half instead of a full waffle because it's too big for one person. I'll have to disagree with that. I regret not getting the full waffle. Since it is a tea house, there was a large selection of teas to choose from. I highly recommend the coconut Ceylon tea. I fully intended on buying some to take home, but it wasn't available at the restaurant. The waitress was kind enough to tell me where I could get it locally. Two thumbs up for me. read more

This place way awesome. The critical reviews are way off!!! Cute decor, excellent music, great service, despite others complains fast food, fabulous flavors! We got the green eggs and ham and it was to die for!! We also got mimosas which we loved! Sat there for a few hours sipping on one of their excellent teas (Darjeeling black), and she never rushed us. During our recent visit to San Juan, my friends and I were looking for a place to grab some brunch before our visit to El Morro. We were looking for a place fairly close to the fort so we can also explore what Old San Juan had to offer. We finally stumbled across Waffle-era Tea Room, a quaint little restaurant with an English vibe. This place focuses on waffles (sweet and savory) and fresh steep tea. The place was pretty busy, but we were able to snag a table for five in about 15-20 mins. We were greeted by our waitress shortly and were educated on how the menu works. For food, I ordered a half waffle of the Pink Pam's (smoked salmon, goat cheese, and tomatoes) and a glass of the tropical tea blend (combination of hibiscus, lemongrass, orange peel, and rosehips). The waffle was cooked perfectly: chewy on the inside while having a slightly crispy exterior. The combination of the salmon, goat cheese, and tomatoes worked well with each other. I also really enjoyed my tea choice. It was bold and refreshing; a great compliment to my waffle choice. The service, on the other hand, was a complete nightmare. The waitresses were nice, but not attentive. It took our waitress over 20 minutes to come back to take our order, another 45 minutes for our teas to come out and yet another 10 more minutes for our food to come out. The restaurant also wasn't fully circulated, so it was hot, humid, and stuffy. It was such an uncomfortable environment. To keep hydrated, we all downed our glasses of water but it was never refilled again. Even though the food was good, I would not recommend this place to anyone unless you are willing to wait over an hour to be able to eat. I loved the concept of this place which made it really disappointing that the service couldn't have been better and food/drinks couldn't come out at a reasonable time. read more

Loved the food!!!! The crème brûlée was divine!!! The Pami's breakfast you might want to tell them to go easy on the yogurt or not add it at all, but other than that it was also good. The waiters were kinda friendly, lol they seem like they were over being here. They had this cool brewing technique called syphon brewing that was cool to watch. Sit towards the front, it's kinda toasty in the back, being that there is no air conditioning and the kitchen is back there. Overall it was a great place for breakfast. read more

You shouldn't leave Old San Juan without having brunch at Waffle-era at least once...though you'll probably be back again after seeing their creative mix of savory and sweet waffles. I love that they serve both whole and half waffles as well as letting you create your own waffle from a long list of quality ingredients for both sweet and savory dishes. It's nearly impossible to make yourself a bad waffle, so it's a fun way to play chef for a bit. They're a little on the pricier side, but it's a nice spot to treat yourself at. Waffle-era's tea selection is wonderful, they really have something for everyone. You can choose from classic green tea to spicy teas and everything in between. They're very quick with your order so it's a great place to stop in if you're in a hurry and have to catch a plane afterwards like I did. Seriously the best waffles i will probably ever eat. If you're looking for breakfast look no further. Plus, their tea and coffee selection and brewing methods are untouched by any other place I've seen. really good stuff. My wife got the creme brûlée waffles which were unlike anything I've ever had. So sweet and delicious. I got the Pami's breakfast waffle which was strawberries, bananas, and blueberries on top of yogurt on a huge waffle. It was really good. If I'm ever back in old San Juan I will surely come here again. read more
Pretty good. Wouldn't say it was wow but pretty good. You can get half waffle for about $8-$10. And full waffle for $12-$15. Tried the big breakfast. Flavor was good but the waffle wasn't as good, which is a shame. The coffee was awesome though. Not sure if I'd come here again with all the other choices for food in Old San Juan. read more

A few of the places I wanted to try in OSJ were closed on a Monday or Tuesday, which seemed to coincide with when cruise ships are not in port so finding this restaurant Waffle-era Tea Room open on a Monday (9/5/16) was a nice surprise. At 9 AM there was a 15 to 20 minute wait for the five of us and the wait time only grew as more people came in for breakfast. We were seated and our server Brigitte introduced herself and answered any questions we had about the menu and came back to check in with us when our second order took longer than expected. Waffle-era uses a "siphon-fire" brewing technique and each coffee brewed to order. I ordered an iced coffee which remained fragrant and balanced even with the ice melting. Their savory Green Eggs & Ham was good enough for my teenager to request a half waffle after finishing her Nutella Strawberry half order. The table's general consensus was the waffles lacked moisture. We understand the waffles have to hold up to the weight of the toppings but we wished there was "sauce" - such as more pesto or honey water, to drizzle. Otherwise this place is worth a stop-in. They also serve mimosas. All day, every day. read more

This was the best breakfast we had all week. The location was incredible with amazing views, a nice breeze and wonderful food. I would absurdly recommend someone stop by here on their trip. Great selection of teas and coffee's as well We went back for a second time on our last day in town read more

We couldn't find the place at first but once there we were delighted with this cute, cozy and charming place. You'll enjoy a beautiful view of old San Juan from your table while eating delicious waffles. We had a cinnamon waffle with pecans and the green eggs and ham for breakfast and both were delicious. If you like to eat big portions go with the waffle size, since the wafflito are small. The coffee is also amazing. We would definitely go back. read more

Wow!! Walked in here suffering from a case of the early morning blahs and walked out of there with a belly full of goodness. Felt daring that morning and tried the Creme Brulé Waffle.. The sweet flavors jumped around my taste buds.. It was really sweet and tasty. Satisfied my sweet tooth. My wife had a savory waffle that looked pretty tasty.. She washed it down with one of there many herb teas. I had the lemonade. Nice way to get the day rolling. Well worth the experience.. I plan on going back the next time I'm in Old San Juan.. read more

Finally had the chance to find this place and get some gourmet waffles! The spot is a cool little hole in the wall, really nice and relaxing atmosphere away from all the typical tourist spots. The waffles were pretty good but I expected there to be more of a selection. They also didn't seem to really be waffles as much as fried dough but it was still really good. One thing that didn't help was that Mosquitos were also having breakfast... I was the main course! Cool spot to check out of waffles are your thing. read more

Arrived 40 minutes to closed and still received great, friendly service. We had two savory half waffles and we were surprised by the attention given to each one. I knew my Green Eggs & Ham Waffle was gonna be delicious from the moment it arrived at our table, it was so savory and the flavors melded perfectly. My GF's Pink Pam Waffle's toppings reminded me of a bagel but the waffle underneath added a welcomed, slight sweetness which made the dish more balanced. The flavors were true to their descriptions and very tasty. We chose half portions because we wanted to leave room for other items around San Juan. BEWARE, this restaurant closes early at 3pm, only open for true brunch hours. read more
