I have passed this Waffle House a zillion times. I kept wanting to give it a try as I used to eat at Waffle Houses long ago when they were able to prepare food from scratch and not have restrictions about food preparation and contents from the Food Police, etc. I was worried that I would simply be disappointed. I was not. There was a number of employees working when I stopped in before going to a YELP event. There were not a lot of patrons, and I grabbed a stool at the counter. Now, there is an art to this. You don't want to be by the cash register, but farther down the counter near the coffee. I picked out a simple scrambled egg, toast, hash browns and ham breakfast. It was quickly prepared. I was immediately served coffee, and 2 refills during the meal. The food was good, but of course not as good as long ago. However, it was filling, cheap and a nice nostalgic memory. I've been to this Waffle House location twice and the thing with Waffle House is you'll get a different experience every time and with every different location. The first time I came by was right after flying into the airport, coming from a place where there are no Waffle Houses, so I instantly had a hash brown bowl craving. I like to make my own bowl with two eggs over medium, mushrooms and cheese, which confuses every other Waffle House employee because I request no meat. Sometimes I get charged the standard build-your-own-bowl price and then some for the mushrooms and eggs, but other times I ask about the pricing and manage to negotiate a lower price. The first time I came by there was only one employee running the store. We dined in and I decided not to bring up the custom bowl pricing, yet to my pleasant surprise, the charge for my bowl reflected the fact that I hadn't ordered any meat. Five stars for this experience. The second time I stopped by was on Thanksgiving Day, hunting for some breakfast like everyone else and their mother. The parking lot was packed and there was a long waitlist for a table, so I ended up ordering for pickup and waiting in the car for the order to be filled. A longer wait than usual because of the volume of demand, but the most expensive check we've had to date for our usual Waffle House order. I'd recommend dining in over ordering for pickup, especially if you're a vegetarian. Three stars for this experience. read more

Waffle House has been on my bucket list for forever specifically bc it's pretty infamous for being ratchet lol, bc I've grown up seeing them around and have never gone in, and cuz I love breakfast foods. This place fulfilled all my expectations - we got takeout and they forgot one of our pancakes, we ordered a chocolate chip pancake but instead got the pecan pancake with choco chips and it was delightful for me to get that extra goodie but if one of us had a nut allergy Waffle House would've def killed us, and the waiter asked if my friends and I were triplets bc we were asian and she couldn't tell us apart! I had a genuinely good time tho cuz all the vibes were good and she meant no harm. I came in hoping to experience all my wildest, kinda dumpy, super soggy waffle-y dreams and they were fulfilled. Also we went on a Saturday morning at 9:30 and every table was full, we had to wait like 20-25 min for our food! But that's just more time to bond w friends. read more

Christmas Scrooge review... There are no Waffle Houses in my area so while I was traveling earlier in the year and passed by this location, I decided to stop in for a late night meal. The place was full so I had to wait about 15 minutes for a seat at the countertop bar. The problem was that it took at least that much longer before the dirty plates and silverware were bussed. So there I sat waiting not only for someone to take my order but also to clear away the previous customer's finished dinner. While patiently sitting, I noticed that other tables were also slow to be cleaned. The kitchen area was pretty messy too as they needed way more workers to do the dishes as opposed to worrying about getting their tips. If a health inspector had arrived for a visit, then this spot would have flunked for sure on cleanliness! On to the food... I ordered the steak and eggs ($9.79) which came with hash browns and toast. The meat ended up being overcooked past the medium I had requested. At least the scrambled eggs, hash browns, and toast were made correctly. I hope all Waffle Houses don't operate like this because I would easily pick a Denny's or IHOP over this chain. Maybe I arrived at a bad time, but it certainly did not leave me a good impression. Just gross. I love Waffle Houses and there isn't one in our town, so when we had the opportunity to go to one, we took it. It was filthy, tables, floor and cook area. We were sitting almost 10 minutes before anyone acknowledged us, which has never happened at a WH before. Our food tasted like they didn't scrape the grill in between cooking. I couldn't even eat it. Love it hate it Waffle House delivers decent food in a cheap eats category. Visited the south location with Rooster on a recent Saturday. A breakfast meet up with car club peeps before heading to cars and coffee at COTA. My mistake as the digs are tiny, hence we didn't all get to dine together. Other that that every diner was satisfied with the meal. My biggest pet peeve for breakfast doesn't even apply here, they cook the bacon to order! Limp bacon for the win!!!! Rooster and I split the All Star Special subbing hash browns for the grits, scrambled eggs, bacon, and an extra waffle. Everything was breakfast bliss. Went by for breakfast 9/25 at 5 am and service was totally non existent. Almost every table was full of food and dirty. 5 people had been standing waiting for who knows how long. The 3 people working there avoided any communication or eye contact even though all of us were standing awkwardly right near them waiting for some guidance what to do. I waited 30 minutes before I left. It literally took 30 minutes and me seeking one of the 3 people working there out to be told they weren't doing dine in & only take out and who knew how long the wait would be to order take out. The people ahead of me were completely ignored also and they decided to do an online order on the app while still being ignored. The restaurant was empty except for one table waiting for food and the 5 people also waiting around for nothing apparently like me. At least have a sign up or greet people to say you aren't planning to seat or serve versus have us stand there waiting waste time hoping someone eventually says something. Left and went to dennys. It was like a scene out of twilight zone. None of the 3 people working seemed to want to be there or care at all. It was like they hoped the more they ignored us we would go away because they didn't seem to want to do anything for us. When I arrived, I didn't know what to expect - a girlfriend referred me and said Waffle House was infamous for its notoriety and stories shared by many. A lady got to the door before I did and expressed it was locked and I was in shock. The place was busy and it turns out the door is just a little jammed. I waited awhile before sitting at the counter and I got the All-Star meal which was perfectly made and priced. I sat with the lady who thought the door was locked and she told me she's been coming to Waffle House her whole life and that it's the shit!!!! The environment seems nice, but I walked in, sat for 20 minutes, and it wasn't until somebody else walked in that they informed the other people there was a waiting list. Went ahead and just left. It was a very nice African-American woman who appeared to be working hard, it was the Asian American lady who pointedly ignored me, as I sat in the back, then moved to the bar, to try to get her attention. As soon as she signed in the other person, whom I was sitting at the bar RIGHT NEXT TO, she turned around and ignored me again. Seemed to intentionally and pointedly make an effort not to make eye contact. Definitely won't be coming back here. Which is sad, cause all I wanted was a Waffle House meal. read more

What did Anthony Bourdain see in anything here? - The sausage patties are hard and dry. - The waffles are meh. - The chili is disgusting and tastes like a cross between tomato sauce and baby food. - Hashbrown bowl had lackluster potatoes ... apparently the hash is good and has flavor only in the fried parts, meaning most of the bowl is terrible. - Eggs were fine because they are eggs. Have friends from the Midwest and east coast talk to me about Waffle House. Apparently it's a popular place for good waffles and breakfast food. The menu is pretty cheap and this place is open 24/7. Portions are great for what you pay for in my opinion. Waffles are excellent. Hash browns here are my favorite. You get some crispy bits and then you get some nice soft shredded potatoes. Customer service was horrible. I noticed my Togo order had no utensils to eat my food after I had asked for some on the order. I was going to eat in my car so luckily I went back to ask for some. When I asked for utensils the lady rudely said we don't have any. So I stated "How am I supposed to eat my food with my hands". She stated " That's not my problem". Terrible. (Night shift) Walked in, acted like they didn't see us until about 20 minutes later when they said they were going to clean a table they kept walking right by. We finally sat down, took about 15min to get asked what we wanted to drink then another 15 just to RECEIVE our drinks. Once we ordered our food it took about 30min to get it just for our food to be incorrect, not once were we asked about refills or even checked up on. I could understand if it was a busy night but it was about 2am & the 2 groups pictured had just walked in. We still left a generous tip but wish we had better service. I'm from a city without a Waffle House so the one in Austin on E. Ben White near the Bergstrom Airport is the closest one I can get to. That is until the proposed location in Kyle opens up down I-35. When is anybody's guess. I drove here from my hotel in San Marcos on a Sunday morning. I was expecting somewhat of a long wait for a table since the church crowd and the travel crowd would gather. A blonde Hispanic girl took my name and number and would let me know when a table is available. About 10-20 minutes later, an empty seat at the counter was available so I had took a seat and browsed the menu. I had decided what I had wanted, a waffle with a couple of sausage patties and apple juice. A friendly,white woman with the names "Hank" tatted on her right hand and "Cash" tatted on her left, waited on me. My order had arrived. The food was nothing to write home about but it wasn't totally bad. I just wasn't totally wowed since I've had better from elsewhere. My total came out to $10.50 so I'm not complaining about the price. You can't go wrong with that amount. Little did I know that this was the same Waffle House that made the news for a huge fight taking place late at night. I have seen the video of what had happened. I've also seen the video posted by the waitress who was unfortunate enough to have been caught in the midst of that drama and gave her side of the story as to the events that led up to it. I'm not pleased as to how she was treated by Waffle House since she was not only terminated but was blacklisted from Waffle House altogether meaning that she cannot get hired from any Waffle House anywhere in the country. So now I know that this is a company that does not care about the safety of its employees. read more

*HEADING TO THE RESTAURANT* There's a parking lot in front of Waffle House you can park out. You can also call to order takeout or dine inside. I went on a Sunday morning at 10:30 am and it was about an hour late which makes sense because that's like prime breakfast/brunch hour so I would recommend going earlier in the morning especially in the weekends for breakfast. *FOOD AND SERVICE* The service is amazing here! Our table server was super attentive and came to check on us regularly. When she served our food and drinks she would also ask follow up questions about anything else we wanted. We paid upfront after our meal and the server at the cash register was also really nice. We wanted to tip well since our table server was so great and the lady at the cashier just told us they don't provide tip recommendations on the receipt and to just tip what we can without being pushy. I ordered the 2 egg breakfast which comes with 2 eggs cooked by your choice, toast, jam and hashbrowns. It was super tasty and not overly fatty or salty like I've had at other diner style breakfast places. I also ordered a single waffle which comes with whipped butter - THAT IS A MUST TRY, it really hits the spot! I also ordered the coffee which comes with free refills! I was visiting the Austin area and had a taste for breakfast. Surprisingly there were not alot of people so I had no wait. I was greeted immediately upon entering the location. We there were seated and asked what we wanted to drink. Within five minutes she came back and took our order. I ordered bacon, waffles, hashbrowns and grits. They cooked the hashbrowns perfectly. Of all the southern staples... this one is by far the best. That isn't to say the food is amazing, the decor is great, or the service is impeccable. But it was the best food of the southern only restaurants. Which isn't saying a lot. It is breakfast food, ultimately the easiest food to make. But now I can say that I have gone and tell everyone... you aren't missing out. I won't be one of those douches that says, "Oh my goodness it is so magical!" If magical is the smell of cleaning supplies... okay maybe. Hashbrowns - They were good with a little cheese, some onions, and gravy, I really enjoyed it. I was very hungry and happy that we got it. Also, it was a hefty serving. Pecan Waffle - With a little syrup and mix it with our hashbrown concoction is quite a delightful bite. THE VERDICT: $8 and 15 minutes of total time in the waffle house. I am happy I went and I will never have to go again. And unless you are doing it for a bucket list type thing, you also never have to go. I give them a 0 if I could. Me, my husband, our 4yr old, and 8m old went in got seated, and after sitting there for over 20 minutes without anyone even acknowledging us. It was busy and we sat at the bar. No one would even look at us, or make eye contact. But the waitress was back there cooking herself a sandwich and eating it by the stove, another lady was too busy talking to other employees and counting down a till by the food. The other people that were seated were all being helped, even people comming in for takeout. They ignored us on purpose for whatever reason. Waffle house rocks! Bottom-freakin-line!!! The waffles are never a let-down... eggs cooked to the tee... hash browns (covered and smothered, thank ya' very much)... and the steaks are hella' good! I was so happy to know that they opened up a couple of locations in A-town - I'm praying that they'll come down here. But if not, no biggie cause guess what??? YES - I will drive! And check out the jukebox cause at some of the locations I've been to, they include their very own music... Such classics like "Waffle House Family", "I'm Going Back to the Waffle House", and "There are Raisins in My Toast" can be found! Lol! Yes, it's cheesy but if you're open-minded, it can be a lot of fun too. The staff is friendly (at least I've never had a problem with them at the locations I've been to in Savannah, GA, H-town, and A-town) and if you're lucky you might even get to hear them talk "Diner Talk" - TOO COOL! Pro tip: this Waffle House is near the Austin Airport hotels. So if you're staying in one, it's about a $6 Lyft ride each way (which is well worth it, considering your Waffle House bill will be cheap even after stuffing yourself). For years there have only been two Waffle Houses in Metro Austin -- this location and the one off Hwy 290. I've eaten at both and there's little discernible difference between the two. (Which is by design. Gotta hand it to these folks.) Excellent grub, inexpensive menu, efficient staff. All in the lovable, pseudo-sketchy, chicken fried package that characterizes this mesmerizing chain of FEMA disaster response teams.. I mean restaurants.
