Kayla at the Waffle House on 290 @182 in Austin was the friendliest, most efficient server I've had in a long time. We were there the morning after my son's high school graduation (at his request -- he's never been to a Waffle House) with aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandma, and Kayla made the whole experience so special! Thank you, Kayla!!

Breakfast is better in the evening in combination with good service, and delicious food. The restaurant is open 24 hrs that has a seasoned grill. I had the 2 egg combo and waffles. You can't go wrong with a late breakfast.

I love Waffle House. It's my favorite southern greasy spoon that's also a chain. Once you're seated, the service is usually very quick. This location in particular though has recently been VERY busy on weekends - parking lot is not big enough for the number of people waiting and the waitlist gets pretty long.

This is my third state having Waffle House (Georgia, Louisiana and now, Texas). I had a wonderful experience here just like the others. It was very crowded upon entering, but the wait time was short. The food came out and it was equally as good as my other previous visits. The staff was friendly and I'm glad I got to come before I headed back home to NY. The only potential downside was they drowned my grits with butter and didn't have wheat toast, however, it wasn't that big of a deal.

Founded in 1997 by Chip McElroy, Live Oak was built with a simple idea "make beer for people who actually like the taste of beer." In 2015, Live Oak moved to their current location on a beautiful property along the Colorado River, opening a taproom and biergarten. One its unique features...it's off the beaten path of other breweries. Live Oak Brewing is north of the airport and backs to the Fast Park remote airport parking lot. At first glance it looks like it's a convergence of a fire station and deserted manufacturing plant. The grounds are impeccable...tall statuesque trees, lush green vegetation and an extensive outside biergarten. It feels like you are in a nature bubble. Interestingly, Live Oak Brewing has its own on site 18 hole disc golf course (different from traditional golf) located directly on the brewery's property. Live Oak Brewing's interior has the feel of a German Hofbräu...homey, spacious, and welcoming, with long communal tables that encourage conversation and human interaction. You can see directly into the brewing space, with large tanks and equipment. Also, board games are available if you choose to play. Live Oak is family friendly and dog friendly. In fact, Groot, the owner's dog, freely roams through the brewery drinking area. While I only had sips of beer (not a big beer drinker), my friends enjoyed their beers. Creeks is the restaurant in the lobby of that circular Hilton you see at Bergstrom Airport…read more Have you ever driven by that circular buidling and ever wondered what it is like inside? I did that like from the first week I moved to Austin. It was an Air Force HQ at the time. Going inside was always on my bucket list. To write this review, I did just that. The Circular Hilton looks just as cool inside as you think it would. And Creeks restaurant in the dead center of the circle is a fine place. But now that that is out of my system I don't have to go back again. * * * There is some serious architecture inside the Airport Hilton. This will appeal to people like me who love designs in structural steel. (Think about what the Eiffel Tower looks like as you go up the stairs.) In this case, the design touch is single steel pillars turning into quadruple steel columnar pillars holding up a large glass dome with steel divisions between the panes. The visual effect is breathtaking. The visual effect would be even more breathtaking If there were not a stupid hotel bar in the middle of the atrium with a lot of Sports TVs that block 2/3 of the view. But the Hilton people have to actually run a hotel. The overwhelming majority of their customers want to order drinks at the bar, eat a snack or a meal and watch Sports TV. Very few of them want to go hungry while staring up at structural steel in meditative contemplation. My best attempts at meditative contemplation fell woefully short ... So I just tossed in the towel and watched Sports TV. It was an afternoon in the middle of the week so a bunch of talking heads were giving their opinion on a variety of NBA players. Well, they were emotional enough to be entertaining. Some of the video clips were okay. * * * Foodwise, Creeks is not too bad. It is hotel food at hotel prices. I am not sure how well they are set up for kitchen space. (Although most hotels do a lot of catering.) The menu is kept manage-ably small. The prices for the food were slightly high but not disturbingly high. (Foreshadowing ........ I did however have to park my car. You can guess where this review is going to go.) I ordered a plate of nachos. The bar nachos were decent. To justify the mark-up, they were served in a long narrow canoe-like serving dish. The graphic was appealing. The quantity was more than enough for lunch. Even with the large bar-kiosk in the center of the floor, I could still see a good quarter of the roof. So there were things to see when I would get bored with basketball chatter. * * * Remember this is the airport. I had to drive through a gate and get a ticket in order to enter the hotel parking lot. The staff explained that the gate wouldn't be an issue and I could just push a button to get out. Well, maybe I did things wrong. But going to the gate I found that it was going to cost me an extra $12 to get out of the parking lot. That on top of the hotel prices on the nachos. So this was not a cheap outing. * * * The inside of the Airport Hilton is still something to see. The food they serve in the atrium is not too bad. Ride your bike to the Hilton, walk from your house to the Hilton, or take the Hilton limo from the terminal if your flight to Austin has just landed. Driving there and parking is only for people who really really really love lobby-gazing.

It's actually a good place to eat any time of day! The beautifully decorated patio provided the perfect welcome into their modestly decorated air conditioned restaurant and bar. When I say bar, it's more like a 1950s bar that you can sit at and have a meal at. Although drinks and meals were offered any time of day! The waitress was pleasant and helpful in suggesting add ons with my meal. But being a purist, I wanted to try it as intended. The food arrived in the normal amount of time. When I first saw my mozzarella omelette I was a little surprised! It didn't look anything like what it was described as! Oh well! I thought. Let's give it a try! My taste buds were happily amazed! Could this omelette smothered in mushroom gravy, green "pesto" and bread crumbs be the best omelette I've ever had?! The mushroom tomato gravy was so smooth! Along with the cilantro avocado topping. That tasted more like pesto, gave it the perfect zing! I had wished I the had ordered some toast to dip in the sauce. I could have done without the bread crumbs. But they were easily swept to the side. The amount of mozzarella cheese in this omelette led me to believe it was more of an omelette lasagna than a plain old omelette. It features two--count them, TWO--smash patties topped with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, and onions, all served on a perfectly grilled bun. The burger is cooked on a flat-top grill, seasoned just right, and prepared to perfection. The burger arrived hot, juicy, and packed with flavor. Every bite was delicious. Dare I say it? While we didn't indulge in the beverages, we enjoyed the $10 burger special which also came with fries! We paired this with a side of a $6 Caesar Salad (really tasty and thrown together with thinly sliced cabbage, roasted chickpeas, and popcorn chicken). Next time, I'd really love to try the truffle mac and cheese (which was also on HH). We weren't aware of the upcharge for swapping out the slice of American for Cheddar (+$1.50), which would've been nice to know ahead of time, since we both got burgers and wondered about the swap...but lesson learned. Also, BIG lesson learned...the parking validation is for only two hours! We were having such a lovely time at Dish Society, but exceeded the 2 hrs (by an extra hour) and got charged a significant amount for parking. Next time, we will certainly park on the street. We tried reasoning with the parking attendant and they wanted no business in understanding we were patrons of the restaurant. You know those stories where a diner exists slightly outside reality? The lights are on, people are moving, plates are clattering, yet something feels fundamentally broken. That was this experience. I sat down, scanned the QR code, and was greeted by an app that simply didn't work. It told me to come back later. Fine. Technology fails. What surprised me was what happened next: nothing. The staff saw me arrive. They saw me move deeper into the dining room. They saw me sitting there with no drink, no menu, no food, and no interaction. We made eye contact more than once. I deliberately stayed put because I wanted to see whether anyone would acknowledge the obvious fact that a customer had been abandoned in plain sight. Nobody did. Minutes stretched into an absurd waiting game. The atmosphere felt tired, dirty, and strangely neglected. The dining room carried a sense of resignation rather than hospitality. The kitchen appeared to be running on a skeleton crew, and the front-of-house staff seemed occupied with everything except the guests. Eventually, they watched me do the final act of the performance: pick up my bag and leave. No one stopped me. No one asked if I needed help. No one seemed to notice that the customer they had ignored from the moment he sat down was walking out the door. The food may or may not have redeemed the experience, but I'll never know because I never got the chance to order any. What makes this particularly disappointing is that the downtown 24 Diner is fantastic. This location feels like its melancholy alternate-universe twin: same name on the sign, entirely different soul inside. I came in wanting a simple sit-down meal. Instead, I got a front-row seat to the slowest, saddest dining experience I've had in Austin before heading out on a work trip . One star.
