My second time at this particular location and won't be my last. It's right off the interstate close to the zoo and makes an excellent pit stop. Just left the zoo and you're dehydrated? Service is terrible. Of coarse I gave them a 2nd try. I haven't been to Waffle House in years for certain reasons. I figured maybe they changed after some time. I arrived yesterday and the employee that was working here was sitting in the table messing with his phone, no customer service ethics at all and I was the only customer waiting so I walked out. Today I arrive at 5:15 am and the guy standing out front tells me I'm sorry but we are closed. Meanwhile I'm staring at a customer sitting eating eating his meal so how are you closed with all the lights on and a customer sitting inside and eating his meal? Yeah I'm not giving them a 3rd chance. Oh and it gets better after he tells me that they're closed, I'm sitting in my car right in front of the place. He literally lets a girl walk in about 5 minutes later while I'm literally starting at him., he lets the girl walk in and order food. I thought that was so messed up. It's Waffle House so I'm not expecting 5 star service. I am expecting the cook the cook to be outside for a cigarette and I do expect the windows to be foggy and that it's loud inside. I expect to find syrup on the menu and there to be some real drama inside. Honestly, I wouldn't want it if it wasn't the authentic Waffle House experience. I got that here. This is a pretty good location. The staff is always friendly when I go, well almost always. This Waffle House in particular is usually cleaner than many others and I appreciate that. The food has always come out very good. Sometimes I have had to get it corrected, but they always do so very quick and it tastes just like I want it. I loved that the grill has always been clean when I've come. My biggest hang up with this location and the reason I didn't give 5 stars is because they never answer the phone and they don't answer intentionally (I've watched them not answer). Waffle House food is great, but I personally don't associate them with quality customer service. From my personal experiences in trying out different waffle houses in columbia, SC, the biggest issue I've dealt with is employees not picking up the phone. Majority of my meals would be pick up, but the waffle houses in columbia is where is where I had to personally drive there to put in the order and wait. Slight inconvenience if pressed for time, but why deal with that if the option to call orders in exist? I confronted an employee at this location after I purposely called while parking outside the restaurant to see how the workers react...the lady looked at the phone and walked off. So I go in and asked if they do call in orders and I was told they do. I showed her the number I called that was listed on Google and it was automated with the Waffle House greeting; was told she doesn't know the store's number. Experiences like these is not going to stop me from coming back or enjoying the food, but it's just to show case what I perceive as mediocre customer service. Don't get me wrong, not all waffle houses are like that though. There was one in charlotte, NC where the gentleman was top notch! Maybe it's a columbia thing. Btw - they also messed up our order. This is my first time in a Waffle House, EVER! A friend told me I had to go because I was visiting the south; she went on and on about the low prices and great food. Overall, I had a very good experience! Their motto is, "good food fast and friendly" and that was exactly what they delivered. Upon entry, several staff members greeted us (quite loudly lol) and asked us how we were doing. Everyone was smiling and looked happy to be there. Our orders were taken within 2 minutes of sitting and our food was out very quickly. Everything was pretty good! If you're looking for something healthy or impressive, this isn't the place. But if you want quick comfort food, then go to Waffle House. The waffles were perfect and a nice portion size. My dad insisted I try his grits, which were cooked perfectly; not too thick and not too watery. I thought the hash browns topped with cheese and diced tomatoes were just ok... they literally just melted a slice of cheese on top and dumped tomatoes in it. Our bill was pretty cheap, too. Never visited a waffle House before, and I thought it was be good. BIG FALSE. Firstly I don't know how you are a waitress with a notepad and still fail to complete a simple order given to you. Not only did she completely fuck up the order but when the food items came out she, put food on the table not knowing who the food belongs to. Like, what type of food place was this, then they ran out of waffle mix- like your a waffle place your suppose to have the one item your broadcasting. When the bill came she had checks all confused, had items on my check that they never provided to us. Considering the fact that she knew she had fucked up- she still kept her pose and respect which I admire thats only one part of customer service. Besides that I left hungry disgusted and regretful prolly won't go to another waffle House again. Period read more

Tried to call this location 13 times. When they FINALLY picked up they said, oh she must have hung up despite me still talking and making sure I was not on mute. Will never go or call back to this location again, will be contacting corporate tomorrow as well. Have NEVER had this issue with any other Waffle House before. read more

Horrible service! We came in on a slow morning. Plenty of seats and no wait time. We were starving. We sat at a table nearby window. After about five to ten minutes of waiting, we looked around and the entire staff was not doing anything. No one greeted us, asked if we wanted coffee, check to see if we wanted anything, nothing. They were sitting behind the counter, talking amongst themselves about social issues, eating food in front of all their patrons that were already there. EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED. This is without a doubt the worst restaurant experience of my life. It took my wife 45 minutes to get a cold bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich. In addition she got a hockey puck for hashbrowns. My order of scrambled eggs and hashbrowns took 39 minutes to come out. 3 Times we had to ask for a 2 glasses of water. If I could give this place a lower rating I would do so. Absolutely the worst late night dining experience ever. I used to really love coming to this Waffle House after moving on this side of town but now I'm beginning to hate it. The customer service is terrible - I like to place to go orders occasionally and they answer the phone so impolitely and hang up after you tell them your order; without saying goodbye (no confirmation, total, etc). The food quality is also hit or miss. I often find them adding on mysterious fees at checkout and they don't give you a receipt. If I wanted to pay $20 for two combo meals before the tip is even factored in, I would have easily gone to an actual restaurant. Save yourself some aggravation and drive 10 more mins to the one on St. Andrews. read more
