My wife and I have been craving Waffle House for a while now. (We used to live in Atlanta, so we had access to numerous Waffle Houses.) We were on the way to go visit my friend in Virginia and we realized that Waffle House is in Virginia after googling it. We stopped at the first Waffle House we found, and we were stoked. We did arrive at around 6 pm so there weren't a lot of people. Our server, Galen, was on point. He served us right away, got our food order, and got our food to us quickly. My wife and I both ordered the all star because it's our favorite. My wife ordered chocolate chips with the waffle and I believe that Galen forgot to put the chocolate with the batter before cooking it because the chips were all on top of the waffle. Other than that, it was great. You can get a large set of hash browns for an extra .50 cents and my wife was all for it. The bathroom was a little bit dirty, but I didn't expect nothing more, nothing less. This location is less than an hour away from us in DC. I wouldn't be surprised if we drive out here whenever we crave Waffle House. read more

Went to Waffle House this morning and the waitress was all over the place. Just clueless. The restaurant was not busy at 6:55 AM. Standing at the register for almost 10 minutes. Little old lady waitress looks at me and state, "I will be with you in a minute." A minute goes by then the young waitress passes by me two times. I'm dumbfounded at this point. The man at the counter receives his food, but send his plate back because his order was wrong. Finally the young waitress takes my order. She does not hand my flip to the cook, but places it on the counter. The man at the counter receives his order then ask for silverware, which took the young waitress at least 3 minutes to get. I love the Waffle House but this location is the worst one I have ever visited. Sunday night and quiet. Three young men on duty. First time I have ever been to a Waffle House and was not welcomed by the staff. They need to be retrained. The cleanest table had smears of syrup on it. The young man was ready to put silverware and napkins on the table. I had to ask him to go get a rag and wash it. Then he still didn't get it all. I had to ask him to do it again. Food was good and staff was pleasant but they were more interested in talking to each other instead of the customers. Cook was walking around with bacon dripping grease off of a spatula. I've never had any issues with food at this location but the staff does not provide a welcoming feeling when you enter. When my significant other and I walked in nobody acknowledged us. We stood there for 12 minutes without being acknowledged.and periodically. Someone finally acknowledged and seated us. Once seated, the staff was attentive, welcoming and the food was great. You go to Waffle House because you know, no matter which location you go to, your waffle will be made with that wonderful, one of a kind, slap yo momma, secret waffle mix they have. Waffle House's food is consistent, no matter which location you visit. I've gotten the same thing from every Waffle House I've ever visited, for who knows how many years, and it's always just as great as I remember- The All Star. The All Star, is everything you need in a breakfast. It comes with a signature waffle, eggs, toast (always get the raisin bread with apple butter), your choice of meat ranging from bacon, to sausage links or patties, and your choice of grits or hash browns. Being the Greedy Smurf that I am, I always get grits AND hash browns (it's worth the small up charge), and I make sure to order my hash browns smothered. Don't let the word smothered fool you, it just means the hash browns are cooked with onions folded into them. My service is usually subpar. The waiters are nice, and they'll probably forget to give me a drink or utensils, and in some cases, half my order, but the food is consistent and their waffles have always been, the perfect post club, alcohol sponge. In short, I love Waffle House aka " Old Faithful". You won't receive the greatest service, but their servers have good intentions, so remember to blame their mind, and not their hearts. We expected a bit of a wait due to busy times, but people sat AFTER us were served there food BEFORE our food was even being cooked. It was loud, it was dirty and it was just what we needed. I had the texas toast breakfast sandwich and my significant other had the traditional waffle and sausage. We cleaned our plates in seconds and the coffee didn't stick around too long either. I can usually always give any waffle house my seal of approval, maybe it's my sentimental attachment. The place really has an atmosphere all it's own, and it's only as good as you prepare yourself for it to be (as in I don't go in expecting the Ritz or Bobby Flay to prepare my eggs). I don't think I've ever had a bad experience other than the wait time, and I think that speaks volumes for how well they know how to smother your hash browns and brew a pot of cheap coffee. if you know what a Waffle House is, you won't be disappointed. (warning: this waffle house is located off of a strip of Interstate 95 that frequently backs up with horrific traffic, keep that in mind when exiting the highway. I have no connection, or emotional ties to Waffle House as some southern yelpers do so this review is 100% based on 1 experience at 1 Waffle House. No joke, the food is seriously good here. I know it looks plain, and gross, and sketchy, but they provide some good eats. First off, I'm not really that into waffles, but I was requested to get a waffle here so I obliged. It was not dry and airy or boring like so many other waffles are. It had great moisture, and with a nice crispy coating on the outside along with a fantastic hint of vanilla. I would almost call it the waffle equivalent of funnel cake. With some pretty darn good syrup and the brilliant seating of "buttery spread" on top of the waffle so it warms up, you have a pretty fantastic combo. I also went for the hash browns "all the way", which is kind of like nachos but with hash browns instead of chips. Off the top of my head, it had onions, peppers, jalapenos, ham, chili, cheese...and probably many more things that I can't recall. A lot of food but really really good. Ham was in nice big chunks and the chili wasn't oily and saucy, more like spicy chunks of meat and beans. And the best part? The hash browns were STILL crispy, despite being obliterated by the toppings. Unbelievable! It's hard enough to get crispy hash browns on their own at most places! The...non starchy foods didn't look so good. There were many variations of sandwiches and burgers so they may vary in quality but the burger patty melt I saw was unimpressive. One tricky thing is that everything is so cheap, it's tough to gauge whether or not they'll fill you up. It's almost like looking at a fast food menu, and it's not hard to rack up the bill, and amount of food, by ordering more and more. My experience has affirmed that if you're in need of some good food, for cheap, you won't go wrong steering towards the generic black and yellow lettering. I have come to this location plenty of drunken nights in my early 20s while living in VA but now that I am in MD, I barely get the opportunity to enjoy this amazingly yummy establishment. Waffle House is a major staple & every location is consistent regarding the food; there are never bad moments when it comes to their food. My favorite is the All Star Breakfast for a mere $7 bucks. Mmmm mmmm mmmhmmmm! It comes with toast, two eggs any way, bacon, sausage, or ham, grits or hash browns, and one of their famous waffles!!! Ahhhhh deliciousness! You can't beat getting all of that food for that low of a price. The staff is always friendly, singing, attentive, and full of stories. It is great just interacting with them & getting to know them. They all have incredibly personalities! The only reason, and I mean the ONLY reason I am giving them 3 stars ( when I wish I could at least give 3.5 ) is because of the cleanliness. A clean establishment means a lot to me! I get they are a diner BUT they can do better in the cleanliness department. The bathrooms, girl you better hold it because they are pretty gross. The tables, you need to ask them to rewipe them just in case for stickiness from the previous customers syrup. And the booths, watch out for a crumb or two left behind. The only reason why I put up with it is because it is Waffle House and the food is so good but then again, it shouldn't be an excuse for them not to pay close attention to the cleanliness of the diner. I love Waffle House. When I was a wee lil punk, a teenager who knew it all, in my high school years no less, it was the one place late at night a bunch of kids could seek refuge. I have very fond memories of getting the triple scramble with cheese, hash browns, and holding the grits. Along with a tall OJ, it was the comfort meal of champions. Kings and commoners alike stroll through the doors and once they enter, they all become equals. I don't like country music, but when I get inside and see that jukebox, my Carolina boy heart comes alive and I can't help but play songs like "Friends in Low Places" and "She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy". This last visit my jukebox djing magic started off with "Carry on my Wayward Son" by Kansas, and it was glorious. The service was so friendly, it was like I stepped through a portal from the beltway of our Nation's Capital into the south (Truth be told, that's exactly what happened). Hell, I don't like sweet tea but part of me thinks I should have ordered one anyways. Little did I know, our waitress hates country music, and couldn't keep grumbling about it. My friend couldn't help but laugh and say "No matter where you go you sow the seeds of emotional distress". I paid for our meal, a paltry $14, and it was a small price to pay for a meal of epic value. You want to talk about an experience with cultural value, excellent diner food, and great service?
