Located a few blocks from I-4 in Lakeland, those who knows the area may say it's a bit sketchy those that don't may get a clearer picture if I tell you this Waffle House sits next to an old Ramada Inn and across the street from a Howard Johnson. Forty years ago this area could've been a destination today not so much, but once you walk through the doors it's definitely the epitome of the Waffle House chain - I think I recently read there are more than 1,900 locations still operating. I parked my Jeep in clear view of just about every seat in the restaurant, and walked by a few people who looked to be a little down on their luck with most of their worldly possessions packed up against the building. A young man hit me up for a light to reignite a half burnt cigarette as I approached the entrance I gestured I didn't have any fire so he thanked me and continued his search in the parking lot. The restaurant was about half filled so I found a booth that had me facing the door and in plain sight of my parking space - the staff here is extremely friendly and I was greeted no less than 3 times before I got comfortable. My awesome server Amanda made her way to my table after delivering a few tickets and a number of "God's Blessing's" to the customers exiting. She grabbed me a fresh cup of coffee and a few half and half's while I looked over the laminated menu which was still damp from being wiped down when the table was lasted bused. I decided to keep it simple being I wanted to get back on the road - (2) eggs over-medium, crispy hashbrowns, bacon and white buttered toast all arriving as ordered after a few minutes and she topped off my coffee. I didn't waste any time devouring it all and was happy to see Amanda had left my check on the table and hand wrote my blessing at the top - the real blessing was all of this and the exceptional service for $13.50, so I left a sizable tip to reward her effort. If you go to this Waffle House after midnight on a weekend. Here is what to expect, I went last Sunday at about 2am. There was only 2 of us there at the time. 15 minutes later it was about 30 to 40 people total. With about 10 to 15 people with guns hanging out their waistband. Food was alright. Stopped by late night driving back home from Orlando. The staff needs more training on taking orders and having manners while working. I ordered a pecan waffle and the cook joked with the waitress about me ordering a waffle with nuts. I had to repeat my order twice and ask for my drink twice as well. I have been to several other waffle houses and never experienced such behavior from the staff. read more

Needed a place to eat breakfast while our dog was at the vet. Stopped in around 8:15am and was greeted by Nancy "The Wonderful". The place was clean, the service could not have been friendlier... the entire staff was so unusually nice. The breakfast items were cooked exactly to our orders and fast service with a smile. This is my first time trying Waffle House. The Staff at this location were great! They acknowledged me and took my order immediately. The service was also quick (15 mins top) for three orders. The place needs a lot of cleaning and revamped, and Waffle House management/owners need to do better providing a safer and more sanitized place for their workers and customers. Worst Waffle House I've ever been to. Fully staffed but somehow most the tables were dirty and sticky and most staff was too busy playing around with each other to clean them. Only two of the three dishes were brought out and they were stone cold and bland, took another ten minutes to get the last. How does a Waffle House mess up eggs and hash browns? Great service this shift (11:00am Thursday). The whole staff was very friendly, but Vinnmia (Mia) stood out! Thought she was one of the managers, well she isnt, but should be! She was super polite, greeted everyone and thanked everyone as they left. She was super supportive to the staff, thanking them for helping out. She is a great motivator and kept the morale up. 3 stars for a breakfast that satisfied my cravings. I haven't been to the Waffle House in years. It was always our go to spot around 3 am after the club. Those days are long gone, but a last minute decision brought us in. Walking in, the place was full. Besides the waffle station ( batter everywhere, but expected on a busy Saturday morning) the restaurant was clean and we were greeted and seated almost right away. Our server took our order and before we knew it, our meals were in front of us. I ordered the sausage breakfast sandwich on Texas toast with hash browns covered in sausage gravy ( bad, but so god). Everything tasted great, but the gravy was lukewarm at best. The sandwich was the bomb and the hash browns were cooked perfectly. I was surprised that I liked it so much. Going to this waffle house was a pleasure and an experience. The wait staff made us feel welcome, like regulars. Our food came quickly and was served with a smile. I had a 2 egg Breakfast, and my boyfriend had Texas toast sandwhich. Both meals were tasty and satisfying. The downsides was the lack of ambient music, and how cold it was. Im gonna start by saying I Love Waffle house....normally. However this one was not up to par for the usual great breakfast food. Instead my toast tasted stale, the hashbrown was not the normal banging stuff that i would drive miles to get (i think because it was soggier than usual if that makes any sense), and the pecan waffle that i normal rave and rant about to everyone was borderline nasty. It was just completely soggy and sad. Not one area of crispness. Usually it's the perfect combination of doughiness and crispy outter edges, but that's definitely not what i just got. It was a soggy and sad waffle. And this was fresh out the restaurant before adding any syrup (i dont butter). The staff was really friendly though and the prices are always reasonable. I drove outta my way to get to this Waffle House. I was bound and determined to get my WH fix before I came back to SoCal. Don't set your expectations too high people. After all, this is a Waffle House. Staff is engaging and easy to talk to. Chow is cheap and filling. Love the hash browns. Great after a night of dive bar debauchery. While my waffle was a tad bit soggy, the meal suited it's purpose. Carb overload after a day of zero food intake. Today at around 9:00 pm Me and my fiancée Dawn stopped by the Waffle House at 3244 US Highway 98 N Lakeland FL 33809 Stopped by to get a quick meal. Was eating and one server was sitting in a chair in the storage room area in Plain sight of inside the dinning are. Dawn witnessed a server take of her shoes and proceed To rub her feet. The server then walked directly back into the kitchen area and continued To work with food without stopping to wash her hands. We notified other staff (possible management) of her actions. She was called in to the back and was there several minutes. We left at this point but saw her come back out and continue to work. We were both eating when this happened but left immediately without Finishing our food.we both found this extremely discussing and unsanitary. read more

This Waffle House sets off the highway near the Lakeland Hotel, just south of I-4 in a parking lot full of holes. It's a typical small shop of booths and counter stools and does a steady business so that you are not guaranteed a booth but can usually catch a stool. It feels a little old or dirty inside and is noisy with yelling orders by waitresses and the clanking of Corelle-ware. The food is cooked in full view and watching the cooks juggle orders and hustle is quite a show. Tables were not cleaned off swiftly. I was not impressed with the waitress speed of getting me a drink or taking my order, I think I got the least efficient gal. Nonetheless, once my food order was taken, it arrived in no time. They boast the highest volume in "real" hash browns in the US. I took mine with onions--best part of my meal. The toast was small and undertoasted. My eggs minus the yolks were fine--though they charge extra for getting to keep my yolks. The waitress seemed to have difficulty adding up my bill and getting it to me, so another clerk took it at the register and completed it. The food here is easily 3 starts. I like Waffle House but this location is the worst. The staff come off friendly, but let them make a mistake then that goes out the window. Order a Texas melt with bacon extra crispy and a bowl of grits. Got home opened food, no crispy bacon. I called and the girl who answered says well you can bring it back and we will remake it. No apology. I said no, I have an appointment I'm waiting on so I can't come back right now. She puts me on hold then someone else picks up and hangs up the phone. Tried calling back for nearly 6 minutes and it just kept going to voicemail. Finally got thru only to be put on hold again, only this time phone is laid down for nearly 3 minutes and no one ever comes so I hang up. Tried calling back it's going straight to voicemail. Really? This is how you all treat your customers. Have not been able to get ahold of anyone yet so I ate my sandwich with no meat, only eggs and cheese. So ridiculous!!! We stopped in on the way home from the circus. Not much else open late on a week night, so we had the WH Classic-T-bone, eggs, hash browns and a pecan waffle. The steak was overdone, the eggs were cooked too much, the hash browns were OK and the pecan waffle was as thin as a pancake. I guess my Waffle House days are nearing an end. It was a great place for a late night fix, but I want to eat healthier nowadays, so it will be awhile before I patronize another WH. read more
