There is a lot of bashing Waffle Houses, and maybe some is justified. But, this Mount Airy 'House was pretty good in my book. We were treated as soon as we walked in, and everything looked clean throughout the resturant. The waitress was prompt and polite taking our drink orders. Our order can out quickly and was cooked just how we liked it. All in all it was a pleasant experience and I would definitely return. A friend and I came into this Waffle House for lunch. Apparently he has been here plenty, because they knew him. It was fairly sparse for a Friday lunch, and the place was clean. We were served by Autumn, who was really friendly and always there for us. I ordered an omelet with biscuit and gravy for a side. The omelet itself was good. The eggs were more fluffy than I usually have, not sure why, maybe just more whipped. I could be wrong, but the cheese seemed like the plasticky cheese product that come in the individual wrappers. That being said, it was good. I ordered the biscuit and gravy because I had never had either at a Waffle House. The biscuit was interesting, not southern style at all, very machine made in size and texture. Not bad, but not as good as I had hoped. The gravy was actually pretty good. Most places use a mix, and this may have been a mix, but it contained salt and tasted like greasy gravy... Not the best I've had, but decent. Having been to many Waffle House locations, I will be happy to come back to this one. read more

Breakfast before exploring downtown Mount Airy's sites, Mrs. K. and I decided that it was going to be the Waffle House. We arrived and got the last table that our waitress was just cleaning off. And since we knew what we wanted, she took our order right then. It's always fun to hear your order "shouted" to the cook! Not five minutes later, my hashbrown bowl arrived. Cooked properly with slightly underdone hash browns, ham, eggs and cheese. For a change, I had it topped with Bert's chili and while it's good chili, that was not a great choice for breakfast. I'll do that again for an evening meal. A moment later, my wife's waffle arrived. The report from my wife was that the ladies room was five stars. Super clean and that's pretty awesome to hear because I've heard some stories. But not today. This place is a joke I went there to eat with my husband the waitress got our drink and food order, once that was we got our food that's the last time she came to check on us and no refills at all... so a African American man came in and sit across from us and he sit there for 10 mins and waited and no one came over to get his order and the whole time they was just standing there laughing and joking about one guy there shaving the night before and not focused on the customers at all that's what you call poor management they definitely need someone from corporate to come out and check this place out they did the guy so wrong to ignore him I will not be going back there !! read more

The only reason this location gets 2 stars is because the staff (except for the manager) were extremely friendly and did everything they could to help me. I have Celiac disease, which means I CANNOT have gluten in any form, including cross contamination. Unfortunately, the app I use to locate gluten friendly restaurants wasn't working at the time, so I stopped here in hopes they could accommodate my needs. No one really understood, some thought I just had a gluten allergy, while others were comparing Celiac to lactose intolerant. Their unawareness made me uneasy, to say the least. As I explained to the manager what my disease was, she seemed less than desirable to listen. I asked if it was possible that they prepare my food in a clean pan to avoid any sort of cross contamination, and her reply was simply "well we cook only eggs in this pan so I'm sure you'll be fine" as she held up the dirty, used pan full of grease. One of the staff recommended that the grill be cleaned before cooking my food, and she acted like that would be too much of a hassle. I apologized for being "complicated" but explained that gluten would make me extremely sick. She sort of made fun while explaining it to the cook, that I would be "like die sick" if I digest gluten. I almost didn't order a thing, until the server said he would clean the egg pan himself, and the cook started to clean the grill. Another server washed the spatchulas. The servers and cook saw to it that they cleaned everything and tried their best to keep from contaminating my food, but I already feel a little nauseous. I can tell you that I will not be back to this, or any, location of Waffle House after my experience today. I understand like she said, "well we can't guarantee anything" but it isn't that hard to see to it your dishes and grill is clean to keep your guest from getting sick. Was ordering food and wanted to get a double waffle to go with my grit bowl in case my husband wanted some waffle along with his food- was told I wasn't allowed to share a double waffle and if he ate any of it, we would be charged with two separate waffles. Grade is 97.5 which I thought was amazing for a Waffle House! The All Star Special breakfast was very good. Food was hot. Great service!

Not a good place to eat at. First time I went service was alright. Second time I went, service was horrible. They are really confused there, gave my order to someone else after I waited 15 minutes(watched her cook it) while I downed a coke. TERRIBLE SERVICE. The staff did NOT acknowledge us when we walked in. There was one open booth, so we waited for the table to be cleared because we had 5 people in our party...no problem. However, after the table was cleared and we sat down (again, without even being acknowledged), we sat there for almost TEN MINUTES. During this time, not ONE person approached our table or acknowledged our presence. When the waiter finally came to our table, the only thing he said we 'Sorry'. That's it. He started laying down napkins, and one of us asked to see a 'full menu'. With that, the waiter threw a big PILE of silver ware on the table (loud enough to cause a few of the other customers to turn and STARE), and walked away without saying a word. I used to work at Waffle House, and the manager there would have FIRED a waiter for treating customers like that. EVERYTHING about this experience was COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE. I WILL be contacting the corporate office about this waiter and make them aware of how he treated us. The WORST part about all of this: TWO of the people at our table are US Military VETERANS (ONE of which served in Iraq and is STILL serving in the National Guard). THEY do not expect any sort of special treatment, but when someone is THIS RUDE AND DISRESPECTFUL to them, it makes ME absolutely FURIOUS. This is ESPECIALLY disappointing given the history of Waffle House and its founders. As for 'William': YOU need to learn how to keep your ATTITUDE in CHECK. You would've gotten at LEAST A $10 tip, just from ME, plus what the rest of the table would've left. I KNOW first hand how difficult this job can be, but if YOU can not treat customers any better than THIS, then YOU sir are in the WRONG line of work. read more

The Waffle House chain is well known throughout the South, up as far north as NC. I like the Cheesy Eggs, and prefer the hash browns. This trip, one of us had bacon, the other had ham. The ham was about 1/4 inch thick, and over 4 inches in diameter, a lot more meat than the bacon, too much food for me for breakfast. Next time, one of us will order ham with cheesy eggs, grits or hash browns, and raisin toast or biscuit; the other will order the same, but without any meat, which saves about $3. read more

Great place to eat outside! Really, the leftover scraps in the parking lot are as appetizing and nutritious as what is on the waffle House menu. Only dare eat there if you have a strong stomach and the sight of fly covered griddles don't repulse your taste buds. read more

Worst Service Ever! Over and hour wait 6 Employee's and yet they still forgot we were there. Less then 20 customers. Store #1139. Manager did give the restaurant 20% off the bill. I would of gladly paid the 20% to be treated like we mattered. Shame on this store. read more
