    Waffle House, Myrtle Beach

A great meal this morning at Waffle House. Much better COVID than last time with plexiglass partitions hanging from the ceilings to separate the tables and better separation of the counter seats. Of course, all of the crew were wearing their masks and customers were expected to wear them as well. No condiments on the table, request only. And after someone else left, I saw the ketchup bottle wiped down. Mrs. K. got her waffle and grits this morning and enjoyed them both. Cooked properly with a fluffy center and crispy brown exterior. The grits were salty and hot and firm. Perfect. Me, I had eggs and hash browns. I finally remembered to get the chili on the hash browns and it was delicious. I'm on vacation, so no keto diet this weekend and I'll know about it for the next week or so with weight loss on hold. But that's okay. It was a great breakfast and I enjoyed it. Very good service and coffee refills kept coming. A very pleasant meal. [Review 14318 overall, 1642 of 2020, number 697 in South Carolina.]

Waffle House rules. Great food at a discount. Waffle- delicious. Biscuits and gravy- excellent. . Hash browns- life changing. Lots of people in there all hours of the day for good reason! Sit at the bar and make a new friend :)

Crazy Busy ! I was here back in September on vacation and just remembered I forgot to do my review . I live in Las Vegas , so no Waffle House there , so this is a treat for me whenever I visit the Carolinas . I went to another location first and there were people out the door . I came to this one and almost the same , but I did get to wait inside and have a seat . I was by myself and finally got a spot at the counter with another Veteran and we both kind of cleaned up our spot since the ladies were sooo busy . The food was good as always , but I was surprised that this location doesn't give a Veteran's Discount . I only spent $11 , so the discount would have only been like a dollar . No big deal because I was there for the food , not the discount . I got the All Star Special with Grits , Eggs , Waffle , Ham , Toast , and Coffee . All good and I only waited a few minutes for the food even though they were busy . It did take a little for the both of us to order though . They had lots of staff , but it was just overwhelming . You know us Southern Folks love our breakfast !

You know what it is when you come to Waffle House. If you don't, you probably shouldn't be up in there. I made my pilgrimage with the fam-in-law as I always do when I venture to the dirty south. Pecan waffle was on point. Eggs were cheesy and pretty good with a dab of salt n pep. Bacon was crispy and delicious. They're a well oiled machine up in here and the prices can't be beat.

The food was really good and the service was even better! We stepped off the plane after a long coast-to-coast flight and stopped at the Waffle House because none of us had been before and it seems iconic for this area. We were not disappointed and look forward to returning. The waffles were delicious and I loved my biscuit and gravy.

Service is all the way 5 star!!! Quintina was the best at serving me 2 nights straight. We came in she was so nice and friendly and went out of her way to make sure our visit was pleasant, & food prepped correctly on both visits. The 1st night the place was FILTHY!!! She did advise they had a huge rush & couldn't clean up, but they need bussers for strictly cleaning purposes. The 2night the place was spotless. I'd definitely go back and pray Quintina was there.

Being from NYC we don't have a Waffle House (not that I'm aware of any ) but it was such a pleasant experience. The establishment was small but clean and they were pretty quick in service, especially in the morning. It's a breakfast chain mostly found south of I-95. The customer service were pleasant, welcoming and friendly. While we did wait the Manager Virginia asked if we wanted coffee from the coffee la carte. Our server Monika was extremely pleasant, welcoming and patient. The food was fresh and good. Great service and good food.

They quickly seated our party of five, which was a great start to our visit. The service was okay. Nothing over the top, but not bad either. There were a few times our drinks got low, and we had to look around for our waitress, but it wasn't a huge deal. One thing I did notice was that the restaurant felt a little warm and humid inside, but with how busy it was, I can understand why. Now let's get to the best part--the food! My mom ate the crab cakes and cleaned her plate. She said they were so good she almost licked the plate clean! The kids had the chicken tenders and loved them. They were just a little overcooked, which is why we ended up taking some home, but they still enjoyed them. My wife ordered the HUGE grilled shrimp salad and finished every bite. She left happy, but she did mention she would have liked a few more shrimp, especially considering the price. As for me, I had the Catch of the Day, which was swordfish. Let me tell you--if you've never tried swordfish before, go to Carolina Roadhouse and order it! I had mine broiled, and it was cooked perfectly. It was tender, flavorful, and hands down one of the best fish dishes I've had. My only complaint? I wanted more! Overall, my little family had a great experience, and we'll definitely be back. Next time, I'll finally be trying the famous ribs that everyone keeps talking about. Thanks for a great meal, Carolina Roadhouse! From the Griggs Family

Luckily I saw a packed place on Mr. Joe White Avenue called Simply Southern Smokehouse. Place looked legit and had a full parking lot so I pulled in. There is only one way in and once you get in, the cashier is on the right with the $15 all you can eat buffet right next to it. The $15 also included all you can drink soft drinks, water and sweet tea. I paid my money and grabbed a plate and ran right up to the buffet. They start out light with vegetables and sides, working up to the main courses of fried chicken, fried fish, pulled pork, smoked chicken and some hot wings. After that, they had some mac & cheese, and then the desserts which was blueberry cobbler, peach cobbler, homemade banana pudding...and a couple of other things. I started off with some broad beans, stewed okra and tomatoes, smoked chicken and hot wings. I brought my plate and my silverware to an empty table, which was getting hard to find as the place was so packed and then went up to fetch me a glass of water to wash it down with. They serve Pepsi products and of course sweet tea but I was going to save my calories for dessert. The place was clean, well lit and the seating was well designed with booths along the wall and tables in the center... and plenty of room between the tables. Once seated I dug right in. The broad beans were excellent. Done right and full of flavor. The stewed tomatoes and okra, although cook correctly was a bit bland for my liking. The smoked chicken was excellent and I used a bit of the golden SC BBQ sauce on it...great...and homemade. The hot wings were the real deal meaty and moist with a nice kick. I finished the plate in about five minutes. Time for round two. On my second trip up, I put some collard greens, lima beans, a piece of fried chicken and a piece of fried fish on the fresh plate. As I sat down to eat, I put a bit of hot vinegar sauce on the collard greens and dug in. The collards were excellent and the homemade vinegar hot sauce gave it a bit of a kick and bite. The Lima beans were soft and loaded with flavor. I then moved on to the fried chicken, which was cooked correctly with the skin crispy and well battered and the meat moist on the inside. That said, it was bland. Given how well the beans were seasoned I was surprised. Same thing with the fish, but they had a real good house sauce for it which gave it a nice flavor and saved it, but overall both the fried chicken and the fried fish were bland. I then went up for a plate number three and realized I was not gonna be able to eat anymore mains, which was a shame since the pulled pork looked great... It will have to wait for the next time I come. I did, however leave a bit of room for dessert and I'm glad I did . The banana pudding was delicious with a full banana taste and 'Nilla wafers on top and bottom adding a bit of crunch. I only had enough room for one of the cobbler so I chose peach and it did not disappoint. Nice and warm with a sweet peach flavor and tasty crumbles. I wanted more but controlled myself. As I got up to leave, I placed five dollars on the table for the cleanup guy who was hustling and keeping the place neat and tidy. I then looked around and noticed this was a real local spot full of people from Myrtle Beach. You have families, elderly people, young people, construction workers and people from local businesses. For $15 it cannot be beat. Not only will I be back again but I plan on bringing some of my friends from up north who are going to love this place...plus I gotta try that pulled pork and Mac and cheese...if the fried chicken and fish have more seasoning, I'll up them to 5 stars.

We were promptly seated and drink orders were taken. The waiter reappeared about 15 mins later with drinks and cheese rolls and took the table's order. We settled on the Aspen family meal which consisted of 2 meats and 4 sides. We chose smothered pork tenderloin and fried chicken along with mac 'n cheese, collard greens, fried okra and candied yams. Fried chicken was awesome, crispy, with an assortment of dark and white meat pieces. We were looking for a knife because of the pork tenderloin and realized you don't need it. It was that tender. You could cut it with a fork and it too was awesome. Everyone raved about all the side items except the mac & cheese it was a bit on the bland side so it was not our favorite. There was no need for a refill of any of the food. The first round was very ample sized and everyone left very satisfied. And if I have a bit of feedback, our waiter was not attentive unlike the waitress serving the tables in our same area. He was didn't bother to come back and see if we needed a refill on any of the drinks or the food. The only disappointing thing was they no longer offer you a small sample size dessert to finish up your meal. It's been a while since I've dined here so I'm not sure how long that change has been in place. However, we understand the food industry continues to be impacted by the current economy. Overall, the restaurant was very clean, including the restrooms. It's a nice place to feed a large family who hates buffets.

Will say the area, the location, the draw and the atmosphere is fantastic, but not the food. Our family left disappointed by the overall quality of the meal, particularly given the establishment's reputation and the high price point. The cost for 4 people exceeded our expectations an amount that felt disproportionate to the overall experience provided. The service was adequate. Our waitress was courteous, but could have kept up on our drink refills. The food fell significantly short of our heightened anticipation. Dishes arrived at the table within minutes of ordering, far quicker than would be consistent with individual dish preparations. This is served family style with options of your main courses and sides. The okra was good, but had some very hard pieces. I bit down on one that was so hard it could have broken a tooth. Green beans were decent, but extremely salty. The creamed potatoes were the best thing in my opinion and we were able to be served both the white & brown gravy's. The fried chicken was so dry and uneatable, with extremely minimal flavor and texture that did not meet standard expectations for Southern-style preparation. We realized after the fact: you can request the chicken parts. The macaroni & cheese tasted mushy offering little depth of homemade character. The biscuits were also very dry. They looked great, but tasted bland. The fried fish & tartar sauce was probably the most memorable dish. However, not everyone in our party had it because they do not like it. There's other options for "main" choices, but you'll have to compromise as a group. You'll have to do the same as far as the sides too! I would not recommend Paula Deen's Family Restaurant based on this visit and would advise potential patrons to consider other options for Southern comfort food while in Myrtle Beach. There are many more options within this great broad-walk complex. That said, I would suggest shopping in the gift store located in the downstairs of the building, as there are lots of merchandise that represents Paula Deen far better than her eatery. * If you happen to be a Food Network FAN (like I am). Flavor Town is coming to the other side of town. Location will be at the Myrtle Beach Mall & will open in June 2026*
