Ambience is the one thing that hasn't changed much. Wooden creaky doors, magazines, out front, and sweet smell that smells like heaven. But don't let that deceive you. The quality of the food has absolutely changed, and not in a good way either. You used to not have to chew your pancakes, they would just melt in your mouth. They were so soft and delicate. Didn't even put syrup on them. The level of disappointment that was coming here last year and actually having to chew my pancakes and pining for some maple syrup or something that I did not have in my bingo card. Still I give them two stars because I know they absolutely can do better. I would give this more of 2.5 star rating if half stars were available. Came here on a Saturday morning, early May. There was only a very slight wait (less than 5 minutes.) They were quick to get people in and out. The menu says that they've been opened since 1978. And while half of the interior has been painted, I'm not sure anything else has changed since then. I know our coffee carafe looked like it was 47 years old...the coffee mugs too since every one at the table had chips or cracks. Our waitress was not pleasant. None of the employees I encountered acted like they wanted to be there. And the bathroom was pretty disgusting. BUT!!!! My pancakes were tasty and the price was decent. My lady and I came here for breakfast today, and unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. The restaurant wasn't busy, yet it took quite a while for our waitress to even come to our table. The service throughout the visit was poor. The food was mediocre overall, with the exception of my waffle, which was phenomenal. I have been coming down here to MB for years and I don't think I ever really noticed this place until today. The restaurant is close to several shops and other establishments. I came on an early Saturday morning (off-season) and even then people were coming in and out. Pretty busy for off-season. Restaurant was clean. Staff was very friendly and welcoming. Food came out very quickly. Staff was attentive. Prices very good. There were several specials that were less than seven dollars. If I had one negative thing to say it would be my coffee was not very hot, but I'm guessing that was just an oversight. Either way, I will definitely be back. We all left disappointed. The restaurant itself was crusty, like it hadn't changed or been upgraded in 60 years. One wall was partially painted, but someone just gave up halfway through. Bathrooms had scrawlings on the wall. As soon as we sat down, we noticed my wife's coffee cup was dirty. French toast was very basic, coulda used some pizzazz, or something. I noticed those waiting had larger parties so be prepared. The ambiance didn't stand out to me so wasn't much to talk about. However, my viewing area was clean! The service was excellent! Our server, I believe her name was Sallie, was friendly and very nice which I truly appreciated. The food was not bad and the prices were affordable. We came on a Sunday and it was extremely busy. When asked how long the wait was, the manager stated 15 minutes if not sooner. We found this surprising based on how many people were waiting but figured they were big parties. The wait ended up being almost an hour. As we were finally being seated, we heard multiple parties complaining that the manager told them the same thing. He was quite rude in his response. I have worked food served for 18 years now and you can read the room and estimate wait times better. The food though was typical diner breakfast fair. The portions were large. Um, I'll try again next time if I ever go back. My entire table said their French toast and waffles were excellent. However, i ordered the fries and patty melt. The bread was well seasoned but the patty tasted frostbite. Yuk! The fries have absolutely no seasoning. Don't do it! Learn from my mistakes!!! They also do not refill soft drinks but charge a price of what a refillable drink would be. On top of that, the bathroom was disgusting. I can deal with a dirty bathroom but this one was dirty and smelled of piss. If the employees have to use this same bathroom and wash their hands and it looks/smells like this, it makes me question the cleanliness of the overall restaurant. This should be unacceptable in any establishment and more importantly in a restaurant. Lastly, they will not seat you unless your entire party is there. They are very strict about that. While in vacation in Myrtle Beach, we had family take us to Golden Griddle Pancake House. As a general rule, I like to go where the locals eat rather than the more touristy places. When we arrived, I noticed a line outside, which is usually a good thing. After a 10 minute wait, we were seated. The restaurant has the normal diner vibes with South Carolina being the focus. I actually learned quite a bit just by reading the place mat on the table. The menu has a lot of good items, which made the choice difficult. The prices were very reasonable as well, which is not always the case with breakfast joints. I eventually went with the Big Dog special, which is two eggs, a choice of meat and pancakes. I went with scrambled eggs, bacon, and blueberry pancakes. The eggs were your run-of-the-mill eggs, same with the bacon. The real MVP as their name states, were the pancakes. These were some of the best pancakes I've ever had! The blueberries with big and juicy and the maple syrup was nice and thick. I had to dig deep, but I did finish them. If you are in town for vacation and are looking for a good cheap breakfast, this is your place. Be prepared to wait, but it is worth it. read more

We had a party of 8 and wanted a quicker breakfast before hitting the road. The place doesn't have a functional ticket system because several tables were seated after us, were served, they ate their meals and paid before we even got food. We waited longer here than ive ever waited for breakfast, 55 minutes. They charged us $4 for each drink and no free refills. With waiting that long I would expect refills. I asked for water and got a cup of warm sink water with no ice. I was a bit worried when 3 separate people at our table tasted different foods in the food we ordered. Pancakes tasting like sausage and undercooked in the middle. Bacon tasting like chocolate. It's all cooked together and it obviously doesn't get cleaned. Vegetarians beware. I highly discourage any group bigger than 4 to go here. They wouldn't seat us until every person in our group was standing at the front counter. Our food was the very last priority I assume because we had a group of 8. Some food was sitting for a while as only half the food was warm. My family has been coming to Myrtle Beach for years as a tradition. This place seems racist and biased. The main issue was the how disrespectful the male manager was about how they cooked my steak wrong. I asked for Medium well but the server got it incorrect and put well done. I cut one piece to take a bite and noticed it was incorrect. They then gave me a steak that was rare. I told her to just take the steak off since they aren't cooking it correctly and she said she would. However 5 mins later, a white older male approaches me and say "are you the one who had the steak? Well I'm not taking it off... my steaks are $8 a piece and you ate the first one." I advised him okay well if I'm being charged for a steak, please provide me one. He stated no and proceeded to continue going off about the pricing of the steak. I ensured him I will not go back and forth but I would pay and leave. The female manager and him watched me all the way to the counter and the female even stood next to me as I was paying to ensure I was paying. The managers or owners, unsure of which title they use, were disrespectful and didn't have any business etiquette. Also, the food is basic abd the server had no knowledge of the brand of orange juice or type of sausages when we asked. The restrooms were dirty and didn't have a lock on them. I was expecting some phenomenal pancakes and what I got was nothing more than a mediocre pancake that tasted no different then the pancake mix they sell in a box at the grocery store.
