Sometimes Waffle House just happens to be what's left on the itinerary, and not because of choice... Recently I had the pleasure of having a rental car give up on the road headed east. It just so happens that it decided to do so near Newport, TN. What a rough night and awful experience that was... Until I decided to grab some Waffle House. When I walked in I was on the phone discussing options with the rental car company... I was basically out of luck for the day. However, the waitress was understanding after I explained what occurred and why I was distracted on a phone call. She made sure my experience at the house was pleasant, and it was indeed. For a midnight visit, they delivered with their classic waffles. It was a quiet place and was tidied up for the night. Outstanding service, and what you can expect with their food. I had spent the night in the Sprinter van at the Haywood rest area but woke up early. It's still dark and I got scared by a herd of deer standing by the side of the road. I decided that I would get off the highway for a bit rather than continue risking hitting a deer. But what's open at 4am? Waffle House? Waffle House! Open 24 hours, I was the only customer this morning where I had a messy but delicious Fiesta Omelet and my "first coffee" while I waited for the sun to come up. Good crew this morning who did not mind putting out their smokes to come inside and take care of me. And then they did their side work. Best part of breakfast today 3/3/2023 @ 10:30 a.m. was all the way Hashbrowns. Scrambled eggs were cooked right but served room temperature. Grits were cold but did get reheated when I asked. Only 1 serving of bacon but cook immediately put done another order. Had to ask for jelly for toast which also could have been hotter. Had to ask for waffle, and when delivered had to ask for butter and syrup. Syrup bottle had syrup running down the side. Female in pink shirt working at grill was holding a loud conversation about other employees with a male standing by the door to back room. Four (4) people left the floor at the same time for a short period of time. read more

Our server Ashton was attentive, sweet and kind. She was talkative and personable and we got exactly what we wanted before we knew we wanted it: When we were finishing up, she offered us big to-go cups for our coffee and even made a fresh pot for us! Additionally, she asked if either of us were active duty military or veterans, and my husband is. This meant we got 10% off our bill! It wasn't a lot of savings, but the gesture, and her thanks, really meant a lot. It had been a while since I'd been in a waffle house, but this experience was definitely a good one! The staff working tonight was outstanding. They were very friendly and fast. Now onto the food. I had the bacon egg and cheese hash brown bowl and it was cooked very well and was delicious. Kyle the cook let me know about Waffle House sauce and boy let me tell you it took that bowl to another level. If you are ever in the area this Waffle House is worth the stop and is very clean. Everything here was amazing except for the face that I was overcharged. All of my families tickets were 16$ for 2 people but somehow I was charged 30$ when all we got extra was a plate of sausage. I ate supper and breakfast at this Waffle House. The use of salt at this particular Waffle House is kept to a minimum, which didn't bother me at all. Salt and pepper were available at the counter if I wanted more seasoning. The total I paid for both meals was a lot cheaper than purchasing comparable meals at a fast food restaurant. read more

This was a great little diner to have breakfast/brunch! This was one of our first meals in Tennessee and we definitely experience some southern hospitality. Our waitress seemed to know everyone who came in after us and said hello to them by name! She was very friendly and gave us some great recommendations on what to order. The tables are all set up on the left side of the room and there's a divider where the waitress stands and the short order cooks do their cooking. You can watch everything that's happening and interact with them, which was great! My mom had the fluffiest ham and cheese omelette. My dad had a Philly cheesesteak omelette and a pecan waffle. I had a plain waffle and a side of bacon. My sister had a blueberry waffle and sausage patties. We all had delicious food and the price was right. They had an electronic jukebox (playing country music, of course), which was a nice touch. read more

Being from Florida where every waffle house is known to be a danger to your life whether it be in the parking lot or from eating the food, I was reluctant however this waffle house in Dandridge Tennessee is a frequent of mine. The service is on point everyone is happy and friendly and the restaurant is impeccably clean. The exact opposite of every waffle house I've ever been in in the state of Florida. read more

It's a crap shoot here, sometimes it's good, other times not so good. I've had better luck at Huddle house on the other side of town.

This was our first-ever visit to a Waffle House. It was a grave disappointment! The one redeeming part was our server. She was helpful and gracious. The food was sub-standard; and we couldn't even get butter for our waffles. There was some sort of artificial spread on our plates. When I asked for real butter, the cook offered what she had at the grill, but wasn't really sure what it was. Who would take a chance on a "spread" for which no one has knowledge of the contents. Worst, flat, limp flavorless waffles ever. I enjoy grits, but the "spread" on them (and cheese flavor that didn't resemble real cheese) made them inedible. read more

What is it about Waffle Houses in the South? I'm from the Midwest, but I have family outside of Newport. Here in the Midwest, Waffle House is someplace you go as a place of last resort. There's a line somewhere around Kentucky, however, where they go from "well, I guess there's the Waffle House" to "hey, let's stop at the Waffle House!" The Newport location is a good example of this: the staff is very friendly and welcoming, the food is basic but excellent, and the atmosphere is very friendly. I'm not saying you should base your entire trip through eastern Tennessee around the place, but it's a good place for breakfast if you find yourself there. read more

I'll start out this review by saying I love Waffle House and I never expect anything too tremendous from the chain but I have had far too many bad experiences with this particular location. Service is always way down the drain, servers are always too focused on other things and not the customer. The last time I visited I showed a coupon for a free waffle from their "regular's club" on my phone and they were all like a deer in the head lights when I presented it. All dumbfounded about what to do with my coupon and asking each other about it they finally said I have to print the coupon out of palate and bring it in. I said I've never had an issue from any other location in the US about a coupon and they said that they wouldn't honor it. Also while we were dining I was over hearing conversations between cooks, servers, and management about things in the coolers. One server was saying that there was orange juice made 10 days ago and another said "it's probably still good, just put it in there" (speaking of the orange juice dispenser).
