Road tripping in the area and found this place on Yelp. Appears to be a local favorite, as it is nestled off the road and out of view, but they had a wait list (it was a Saturday night)! You can put your name on the waitlist before you arrive. Small restaurant with rustic style/decor. The menu is one double-sided sheet but offers a lot of variety; steak, burgers, seafood, chicken, veg options. Wish I was going to be around to go back and try more. My wife and I both had the mahi-mahi. She had the grilled and I had the blackened (the blackened seasoning was a little heavy on the salt in my opinion, but still good). Good selection of sides! Good food for a good price! Nestled right up at the top of a hill, this place was our saving grace after a fun day of white water rafting nearby. Service was quick and great, our waitress was very kind and attentive to us. We ordered the Tennessee cheese fries as our starter and I ordered the 1/2 pound bacon cheeseburger with onion strings. I can't believe I never finished this post. Hands down best restaurant in Newport. Wish it was open more often. I had quite a bit on the menu, but the burgers and hamburger steak seem to win out time and again. Chicken fingers and plump and crispy, not super greasy. I'm so glad a friend of mine introduced me to The Woodshed. I've lived here over three years and did not know this place existed until about six months ago. You can't see the restaurant from the road, it's up a semi steep gravel driveway so it's easy to pass on by it and not know it is there. It's definitely a hidden gem away from all the tourists and hustle bustle the area is known for. They are only open a few days a week and the days they are open they are pretty busy most of the time but it's well worth the wait. There is not one thing from here that I've tried that I haven't liked. If you come here, you definitely have to try the woodshed burger at least once. It's a massive 1/2 pound burger topped with bacon, cheese, BBQ pork, and crispy onion straws with all the fixin's! You better have your appetite ready because this burger does not play around haha and it also comes with a side of your choice. I've also have gotten their loaded baked potato skins, chicken club sandwich, which has to be my favorite from any place I've ever gotten one from and also their NY strip which is seasoned to perfection, comes with two sides and a homemade fluffy sweet roll. I introduced this place to my parents, and they absolutely love it and now come every Thursday for prime rib night. They have a good amount of seating areas and also waiting areas inside and out. The staff has always been super friendly every time we've come here. We called to place a togo order, which they said they didn't do togo orders after 5pm. That was totally fine, but then the lady on the phone was incredibly rude when I tried to ask if we could bring our dog to come and eat, and then told us we can place a togo order but we'd have to place it at the restaurant and then wait for our food. She said it would take 30 minutes for the food to be ready. I then asked to clarify that we can drive there, order food, wait 30 minutes, then pick it up, but we couldn't order it over the phone, to which she replied "yep" and when asked why that was the case, she replied "policy." I am incredibly disappointed by the costumer service, and how rude the person on the phone was. French onion soup wasn't warm enough to melt the slice of cheese they laid on top, side salad was mixed lettuce, 15 thin pieces of shredded cheese and half a picked egg. husband ordered loaded mashed potatoes with his steak, they didn't have any so the brought him burnt, old potatoe skins. Didn't even ask if he wanted something different. We both ordered the filet, both had been cut in half multiple times and had lots of fat. I ordered the Brussels sprouts, they had taken frozen Brussels sprouts and put them in the fryer for a few minutes with a small drizzle of balsamic glaze. This hidden gem has to be the BEST restaurant in the area. Granted there isn't much to choose from beyond fast food and standard chain restaurants. This is the type of food that I crave and would make me a frequent guest if I lived around this area. The ONION straws were delicious. They were a little greasy. It's appropriately named The Woodshed as it reminds me of my Uncle Farrel's barn with his old tools hanging on the wall, but undoubtedly cleaner & more organized. (Slim was a bit of a hoarder) Even though the aesthetic is rustic, it does have a modern flare. I was a bit surprised by the number of people in the establishment because, as I mentioned, we were in the woods. Our wait wasn't long, & our server was excellent with her recommendations. My husband ordered the sirloin, which he said was grilled to perfection. One of my daughters got the chicken tenders & bacon mac & cheese, which she loved. Our other daughter who is a bit more "extra" got the shrimp cocktail & the loaded fries. We are from the gulf coast, so I did not expect to be impressed with the shrimp from some barn in the woods, but I. WAS. WRONG. These shrimp were BIG & the loaded fries were enough to make your eyes roll back into your skull. I had the pulled pork sandwich, which is strange because I do not like most BBQ. I'm sure for most BBQ lovers, their BBQ is exquisite just like everything else on the menu but, I was just reminded that I don't like sweet BBQ. The only downside to this establishment for my family was there was no alcohol served. My husband is a Bud Light man & there was no beer to be found.
