Dirty, dirty, dirty! I'm a fan of the Waffle House. When in the South I ensure to make them regular stops. However, I'll never be back to this location. It was filthy. The kitchen area which is in plain view was down right disgusting. The cook was preparing orders of scrambled eggs in the same bowl and with the same spoon as every other order. The bowl looked horrible. The food was ok but not great and served on dirty plates. They are short staffed but the current staff had time to laugh, joke and goof off so they had time to clean. Training is needed.

I always heard about the Waffle House, almost as a southern pop culture icon, mentioned even in Rap songs, so I had to try it! I ordered the Texas toast breakfast, a solid breakfast sandwich with eggs, bacon and cheese, served with hash brown and coffee. Good breakfast, but I don't see what the hipe is about! Service at this location on the other hand was excellent, very friendly employees, they deserve five stars.

Is that right??? Well, I'll be

Great Food. Service was a little slow. I appreciated the waitress making a fresh pot of coffee.

The restaurant meal was good. The ambience was not too loud, but it was certainly full. The only thing I'll say is I know it's an old place and it's quite quaint. Heard we had to try Ajax, the diner, not the soap. We stopped in for lunch before heading to Nashville airport to come home. The diner is about what you'd expect inside. Old, kitschy and full of decor. We sat in a booth an were greeted by a waitress promptly for drink orders. Cokes and waters. They deliver the coke in a neat Ajax cup. I ordered the chicken fried steak. Wife ordered the chicken and dumplings and step son ordered catfish. Everything arrived very quickly and everything was hot and southern deliciousness, except the corn bread. The corn bread was dry and not very good at all. Pretty sure it was yesterday's leftover bread or someone needs to pull it 5 minutes sooner from the oven. Unanimous at the table, Everton e had garb corn bread. No big deal. The chicken fried steak was full of flavor and cooked perfectly. Gravy was great and the red beans and rice side was awesome. All great flavors. Wife loved the chicken and dumplings, good flavor and tender chicken. She got a side of sweet potato casserole and loved it. I had a bite and it was delicious for certain. Step son had the fried catfish, he is not a big seafood eater but he absolutely loves the catfish. I had a big piece and it was cooked perfectly and tasted great as well. The staff was outstanding, the service was great and the food was excellent sans the cornbread. Ajax is a neat little diner in the heart of Oxford. It's a little pricey as is everything in this college town, but it was worth the visit.

The menus are covered in marker and hand writing. So obviously their prices were even cheaper at one point! 2 people was $24. They make all their BBQ in their pit right outside. Of course I got the BBQ jumbo sandwich. Which if you are hungry the jumbo isn't that large. You'll need some fries with it. Standard comes with pickles and chips. Bathrooms were surprisingly clean. I think east coasters are just pigs. There's been so many clean bathrooms out here. So try this place if you are somewhere near here but I cannot say drive out h

Sunrise Memphis did not disappoint. We stopped in around 12:30 p.m. on a Wednesday and didn't experience any crowds or much of a lunch rush. That being said, after eating here, I completely understand why people mention waiting hours on weekends. The ordering process is simple: walk up to the counter, place your order, grab a number, and seat yourself. I appreciated that they offer both breakfast and lunch all day because it meant we didn't have to choose between the two. I ordered the chicken tenders with tater tots and an Arnold Palmer. Everything was fresh, hot, and exactly the kind of comfort food you crave in the middle of a long road trip. Kyler ordered the Kitchen Sink, which came with eggs, bacon, hash browns, grits, and a biscuit. He asked if he could swap the cheesy grits and biscuit for biscuits and gravy, and they ended up bringing him everything anyway! It was a massive meal, but absolutely delicious. Beyond the food, the staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming. I also loved the fun, eclectic atmosphere. The colorful Memphis touches throughout the restaurant gave it so much personality, and there was even a bar area that made me think this would be an absolute blast for brunch with friends. Sunrise Memphis ended up being one of our favorite surprises of the entire drive. If you're passing through town, do yourself a favor and stop here.
