One of the more interesting times at WH. Over the years I've been served raw bacon cause she forgot to cook to today the entire staff arguing about a co-worker being 1.5 hours late. I'll take part of the blame due to arriving at 3:00pm evidently at shift change. Upon arrival greeted with loud arguing. To place my order I had to interrupt . Promptly ordered my favorite grilled chicken sand with diet coke. Had to go back to counter and get my drink. Order came later and arguing continues. Had to go to counter for refills. Food was as good as it normally is. While expectations from WH staff is never high this was all time low. But...I'll be back

I always love visiting Waffle House when I'm in the South. This one is no exception. Unlike previous visits, the employees at this location seem to know a lot more about proper restaurant hospitality. I was actually asked how my food was, I wasn't shoved the bill in my face within 3 minutes of getting my order, and everyone was polite, courteous, and properly dressed for work. The restaurant was clean, although the bathroom could've used some sweeping. And I don't think I can really rate stars on this, but I'm totally tickled by Alabama accents, which is another perk of this particular location.

Well, some things are so predictable! Waffle House, 2:30 p.m., no other diners, table and everything else sticky, whole place not too clean, staff sniping about the person who called in sick, then going after each other to the point that you aren't sure you might not be caught in the crossfire. All that and food, too? What more could you ask for? Oh, yeah, country music on the jukebox...and there it is!

This is the closest to our Lindbergh WH. The food was good & the wait staff pleasant. This is my first time here & Sharron, my server, is very nice.

Nice place to eat... It's not the best Waffle House in the area but the atmosphere is laid back. Good food.

We came in expecting a great local diner, but instead were served overpriced, excessively greasy food that wasn't even prepared well. My oldest son ordered breakfast for dinner. The eggs were dry and overcooked, the waffles tasted like the frozen waffles you'd get from a budget hotel continental breakfast, and the bacon was so undercooked it was barely edible. My husband ordered the chicken-fried steak and was shocked by how small the portion was for the price. The flavor was just as disappointing, and he ended up leaving most of it on the plate. My daughter's club sandwich and my turkey Reuben were just mediocre--nothing special and certainly not worth what we paid. The entire restaurant felt like it was charging premium prices for cafeteria-quality food. By the time we left, our bill was around $140 including tip, and I honestly felt like we had completely wasted our money. It was, without question, the worst meal of our vacation. There are far too many excellent restaurants in Gulf Shores to spend your time and money here. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

I'm playing catch up on reviews…read more I've been to a lot of places the last few months, checked in so I can review it, but I'm on the road so often that it's hard to get the reviews written. I have a long back log I need to catch up on and I still have reviews from my cross country trip to Oregon that I still need to write, and that was back in December! I'm trying... A few months ago, I found myself out on Lott Road, and decided to scratch a long overdue itch by visiting Highway 217 Cafe and Grill. I've heard pretty great things about this local gem. Now, anyone who knows me, knows I have a wicked soft spot for local owned business. In fact, I tend to gravitate toward local businesses over corporate owned chains. I stepped inside the dimly lit building where elderly couples and workers on their lunch breaks congregated with a warm and sincere welcome from the young ladies working there. This is what I love most about local business, is that honest interaction and sense of pride and community these kinds of places have. It just makes you feel like they want to earn your business, and care about your experience there. I was told I could sit wherever I chose and they brought the menu, and while there was a lot to choose from, I wanted to keep it simple, and went with a bacon cheeseburger, medium rare. I guess I tend to default back to my "Rik's Burger Review" days when I get the chance, and since it's where my review experience really began, it always feels nice to go back to the basics. I ordered onion rings instead of fries as I was in the mood for them, and I like them a little bit more. They brought the burger and it had the fries with it, and the girl realized immediately that the kitchen had made an error. She told me I could keep the fries and she would have my onion rings out shortly. A few minutes later, this side of fantastic onion rings showed up, and they were nothing short of amazing! The onion rings were appropriately crispy, and the breading had quite a zing, which was pleasant tasting. The onion inside was firm, hot and not soggy in the slightest. The burger was perfectly cooked as requested, the meat was seasoned well, it was juicy and succulent, the bacon was very crispy but not burned, and the cheese was bubbly melted to the burger. This was nothing short of a perfect meal! Also, they took the onion rings off my check because they were late getting them to me. I left full, happy and swore I would go back again. It's a bit out of the way from where I live. But if I'm out that way, I'll definitely be back.

Menu is standard greasy spoon diner fare, but executed perfectly with good portions big enough to fill but not so big as to stuff one like a turkey. I very much enjoyed my Corned Beef Hash, but salivated over the beautiful Biscuits and Gravy that others ordered. Service was quick and friendly without hovering or sucking up. Came here Sunday May 3rd around 1pm. Was busy but not completely full where you had to wait for a table. We sat down and waited for our server to take our order. It took our server about 20 mins to come over and take our order. So we put in our food order when the server came by to take our drink order. Food took about 40 mins from when we ordered to when we got our food. I used to work in restaurants (the busiest of restaurants) and know that you should staff more, prep more, and place larger food orders in anticipation of being fully booked friday night till sunday night. I ordered gumbo. My niece got biscuits and gravy. The gumbo was pretty good except would have liked the roux a little thicker. The gravy on the biscuits was lacking in flavor. I love diners and love supporting locally owned businesses. Maybe some staff called off this particular day because the service was slow. But I wil be back.
