OMG! We hadn't been to a Waffle House in decades mainly because there are none in our state and we seemed to associate it as a less healthy option. So, on our last day in North Carolina, we decided to take the plunge and boy are we glad we did. From the moment we entered the location on Market St. in Wilmington, we knew we made the right decision. We felt welcomed like we were regulars at Cheers by the cheerful staff. Patricia, in particular helped make the experience memorable with her lovely and vivacious personality. When it came to the food, every item we ordered including the coffee was perfectly prepared and flavorful. One would expect that their waffles had been perfected since waffle is in their name, and they were! We had a side order of chicken breast which was juicy and perfectly seasoned. And of course we had to have their hasbrowns with grilled onions and cheese! And don't get me going on the great prices. The restaurant itself was clean and bright! So we just left a place and was hungry! Decided to stop here at Waffle House being as they are 24/7 Ordered our food and within minutes and it was good! Tried this Waffle House location on Market St. for the 1st time this morning & it was pretty good. I ordered the Sausage, Egg & Cheese Texas Melt w/ side of hashbrowns "country" & "smothered" to curb my hunger pains. It was good, flavorful, not greasy & hit the spot. Nice preparation & it tasted wonderful. The Texas Toast seemed to be a bit "softer" than I anticipated (probably from it being buttered) but it was still toasted very well. Opportunities for improvement: - The hashbrowns were also flavorful, but came w/ about 30% less gravy (country-style) than 2 other local Waffle House locations I have dined at before. Please refer to my previous pics & reviews for comparison. - The counter I sat at, had not been fully wiped down & disinfected yet at a time where there weren't that many dining patrons inside & no one else was seated at the front counter. Wasn't bad, but wasn't a good cleanup job, neither. My server, Teresa, was very friendly, prompt & possessed a positive attitude w/ a smile. Great service & it was contagious. Well done. So during this visit I decided to ask about the difference between the ala carte ordering versus the combo plate ordering. Our server who was very nice and personable said "we do the pictures so the drunks can just point and say I will have that one. It makes it easier for those people". I was trying to contain myself from laughing too hard but the laughter just sorr of escaped involuntary. The laughter then built to a semi roar/snort fest. So after we got thru the hilarity of knowing that we order like the drunk folks our super nice server was there with the drinks and shortly thereafter with the drunk ordered food. (We were not drunk) Eggs with cheese, crispy bacon, sausage and raisin toast. Unlimited coffee and tea refills. I frequently six nights out of seven eat at waffle house nightly the food is amazing. The cooks and servers are awesome. One major issue it's freezing in this place. It's literally colder inside the waffle house than it is outside. My food is cold before I even get halfway through it, it's literally insane. Couldn't review a restaurant lower. This is the worst run Waffle House ever. Horrible service. Security thinks he is on Seal Team 6. This place is horrible and is a disgrace to other Waffle Houses in the Area. Past 1 AM the workers do not want to work and go out of their way to not work. Great waffles. I love all the hash brown options. Gives you that home town diner feeling at a chain restaurant. There isn't much for ambiance at Waffle House, but the food is good and the people are kind. Service was pretty speedy. We didn't have to wait long for anything and everything was hot when it was placed on our table. My pet peeve is getting breakfast somewhere and having eggs or bacon that are cool before I even get them which was not an issue here at all. read more

If anybody that knows me knows that I love Waffle House, and know where all if not most of them are wherever I go. I have been to this Waffle House a couple of times, and the service is not that great. This is what happened the last time I was there. When I drove up there was one of the waitresses standing outside the door smoking. I walked in and sat at the counter. The server came in from outside and talked with the other server for a moment and stood in front of me, pulled out her pen and pad and just looked at me. I mean, just looked, there was no Welcome to Waffle House, Hello, What can I get you, KMA, or nothing. She just looked at me. So after a while after her just looking at me, and me looking back, she said "Are you going to order." I stated that I was waiting for her to finish talking to the other server, and to greet me. She still didn't offer a hello, or anything. So I told her my drink order, and food order. What do you know, she got my drink order wrong. I said I specifically didn't want her to put lemon in my drink, yet she did. Then after I mentioned to her what I ordered, she seemed ticked off. I am not the one who fixed the drink incorrectly. The worst part was, I was the ONLY customer in the store, so there was no excuse that she was busy, or anything. The attitude of the server was very poor, with no customer service. The service was not that great, and the food was tolerable. I did write to corporate Waffle House, and the manager gave me a call. The manager asked me what happened, and I told him, and his response was thank you, I will check the security tapes to see what really happened. There was no, I am really sorry that you had a bad experience, I hope you come back to see us, KMA, or nothing like that. Just, I will check the security tapes. I love Waffle House, but with crappy customer service from the store associates, and the store manager, this is a horrible place to visit. Caught totally unaware, this Waffle House had a pestilence known as "hungry derby girls" came upon them from across the street at the Days Inn, aka no free breakfast and lous noises afterdark motel. Like the scourge of the Persian army, derby descended taking up multiple booths. Large orders were placed, minds were changed, pepper shakers were dropped in eggs. New eggs were ordered. People were fed... ...then wave two of the slaughter started. A Wffle House standing ovation for the One and Only, Ted Nuisance. WH didn't know who he was, but they treated him like royalty. Who can say no to a 24 hour dinner? The food is standard but the patrons are anything but. Great place for people watching at 4:00am. Seating is limited, but the full menu is always available. My favorites are the pecan waffle, grits loaded all the way and the bacon. Tip: Great for breakfast to go but they will not start cooking your food till you arrive. I was so bummed to have such awful service in such a well kept WH. I mean I don't expect terrific service anytime I come, but when the waitress acts like it's an inconvenience to re fill my coffee, I get a little annoyed. The inside is cleaner than any other Waffle House I've seen, but the service was atrocious. My boyfriend and I waited forever for our food and there were only two other tables. Went for a quick breakfast. I have eaten at other waffle houses before so I wasn't expecting a 5 star restaurant. The food was decent but there were ants all over our table, crawling on my daughter and myself, and in the sugar holder. I was a bit grossed out. The biggest nightmare of service and expectations of a patron EVER I called in for an hour to order ahead of time to help the work load- and adhere to understood COVID specified expectations... And couldn't get an associate on the phone after 10+ calls.. Which honestly I understand-- so I walked across the street and tried to order myself. After explaining the calls I made, after I waited for 3 other patrons to finish their meals and their tables to be cleared equaling 25-35 min- I was then refused service for ordering. I had evidently had a bad aura? Almost 3 hours after my plight to eat. This place deserves to fall to the PANDEMIC- as it clearly has lasted way to long to date. If you want to eat a yummy late night meal with bacon, cheese and maybe an omelet and a chocolate waffle or two- DONT COME here as the staff, management, etc do not want your business- you ARE NOT welcome.
