First time I've ordered food from this Wahoo's. I was glad I ordered from this one compared to the one I live next to. I placed a phone order and they made sure I called the right Wahoos . My husband ordered the steak bowl and I had 2 original fish tacos with white rice and black beans. I was amazed at the good portion of fish that was served in my tacos. I always order fish tacos at the other location and they never place a good amount of fish as the ones I had today. Also the black beans were served with little juice which is good so no spills were in my bag, and rice had a very good portion. I was also amazed at the quality of the steak, so I had to steal a piece off my husband's plate! Always been a fan of Wahoo's and enjoy their delicious green creamy salsa ! It had been awhile since I had some especially due to their remodeling. This location just opened again and I stopped by last night. I was starving and ordered some chicken enchiladas, fish taco for my brother and some Baja rolls for us to share. I love the West Coast vibe Wahoo's displays and it was very clean. Viví portrayed good customer service and I appreciated their attentiveness. Sorry, but this is not the original Wahoo's. The original Wahoo's is on Placentia Ave. in Costa Mesa. I have been coming to Wahoo's almost as long as I have lived in Costa Mesa, a long time. This is not your normal Mexican food restaurant. It's a more healthy Mexican food. If you watch the type of people that come in to eat, they are mostly fit and very active in sports of all types. Some of the items I get are the fish tacos, Carnitas tacos (very tasty Carnitas), Banzai burrito, Maui bowl, Volcano bowl (spicy), chicken tortilla soup, and the Maui onion rings (not so healthy but very good) . Also look for the board when you walk in to see what their specials are and if you like fish see what fish they have fresh in that day. Each month they also feature a beer and it used to be only $1.00 now it's about $1.50 $1.75, still a good deal. It might take you a few times to get used to a healthy Mexican food but If you like healthy food, you should like Wahoo's Fish Tacos. read more

Rudest customer service I've ever experienced. Downright condescending. I came in with a coupon for a free entree that I received for donating blood. I walked in and immediately was ignored by the lady at the counter who clearly wasn't busy. Once she finally acknowledged me, I tried to order an entree to go and was told it was dine-in only which is fine, but was spoken to with extreme attitude. I can't imagine what she was so upset about, but given that I had been in the store silently for 10 min, I certainly did nothing to deserve her attitude. She told me if I absolutely had to take it to go she would give me a box but she wouldn't box it. Anyways... after ordering my food, it was brought out to me, and I asked for the box and the nice server told me "no problem" and that he would box it for me, only for another enraged woman to come out with my coupon to tell me it's dine-in only and rudely give me my coupon back. First of all I really don't see what difference it makes to the company where I eat my taco, but I could deal with dining-in if completely necessary. I can't deal with being seemingly attacked by a staff for no apparent reason. But I ultimately had that choice taken away from me when the second barbaric woman approached me to return my coupon. I have been a customer of wahoos for over 10 years. I have always ordered my food to-go and after finally have a forced dine-in experience (minus any actual dining), I can confidently say I won't be placing any more orders with them. After being rudely refused service, I took my business across the street to El Pollo Loco and received a 5-star customer experience AND they somehow managed to place and deliver with taco order without personally attacking me at any point. The food was good, I had a bonzai burrito with salmon. Customer service wasn't great. The lady asked if I wanted sour cream or guac. I responded sour cream and after I paid I looked at the menu on the wall it says sour cream and guac ( together for 1.00 ) I pointed it out and she said it was too late because I said sour cream. I have been to this location hundreds of times, no joke. Always great food and service. I had an especially great experience tonight: i'm on my way to work and I call in an order. Once I get to the parking lot I realize I don't have my wallet, but I do find my checkbook in my car. I go in and ask if they take checks, they say no. I say I'm sorry, I can't pay then. They say... We can't take your check but your order is ON THE HOUSE. They did not have to do this. What an awesome act of mercy and compassion. I am so disturbed by my first visit to Wahoo's that I just don't know where to begin. I understand the concept of fusion cuisine...taking two very different influences and combining them to create a new unique flavor. However, there are just some things that should never be done. Let me break it down for you.... lard-free tortilla - lard is not healthy, its not good for you in anyway what so ever, but it's what makes a tortilla authentic. if you don't want lard, don't eat Mexican food!!! ahi rice - ahi rice is steamed rice with a bit of soy sauce, it has no business being inside a burrito black beans - no complaint here, I'd prefer refried beans....whatever banzai veggies - onions, red and green bell peppers and broccoli grilled with some teriyaki sauce that made them kind of sweet. BROCCOLI in my burrito???!!!! WHO CAME UP WITH THIS IDEA???!! I picked out all the broccoli. fresh salsa - if there was salsa in my burrito, I couldn't find it carne asada - beef marinated in teriyaki sauce IS NOT CARNE ASADA!!! I knew I was in for trouble based on the menu, so I ordered my burrito wet. At least it looked like Mexican food when it arrived at my table. THANK GOD there was tapatio on the table. I went here with some co-workers as we usually eat here every week or so. So after eating my burrito (which to me seems to have gotten smaller), I went to get a refill but since we were all leaving, I asked, Alex (manger?) for a to-go cup so I can drink it on the go. He looks at my cup and asks, "Did you pay for this drink?". I was rather surprised as to why he would question whether or not I had purchased a drink as my cup seemed to be a clear indicator as to whether or not I had bought the drink. I showed him my cup and in an accusatory tone, "The clear cups are for water and the blue cups are for soda". "Let me see your receipt", he retorted. I said "I don't have a receipt because the cashier did not give me one". I told him that I did pay for the drink and your cashier gave me the wrong cup (as they always do for some reason). My response to him did not satisfy him and I felt like Oliver asking for more gruel. I could imagine Alex being the grumpy old man saying, "MOREEEE??? YOU WANT MORE?????". So Alex (I think that was his name), reluctantly handed me my soda cup which was rightfully mine to begin with and did not even acknowledged me or believed me when I said I paid for the drink. Moral of the story is: Don't accuse your customers of stealing soda from you because that 2.00 is minuscule compared to the untold riches that were to be had selling bland Mexican food to that unsuspecting patron for many years to come. For example: If I were to eat at Wahoo's 1 every week for 55 weeks, average bill is $10.00 (banzai burrito + 1 non-stolen soda). $10.00 x 55 = $550.00 $550.00 - $2.00 = $548.00 in lost revenue for one year. Disgusting would be the correct word Ambiance is terrible, worse then a school cafeteria, but the food is horrible. The fish taco is tasteless without putting loads of hot sauce on it and I don't like hot sauce. The Carnita was low grade pork that had so much salt on it, it burned my mouth to even eat it. When I complained, the staff told me to take a hike. I did, and will never go back there again. There are good places right down the block, not sure why I even gave this place a try. Had lunch today at Wahoo's Costa Mesa, I think I have been going here for over 20 years plus! I was totally disappointed today! I have gone there when it has been busy and gotten my lunch faster than today! Mind you I only get 1/2 hour! I order a outer reef Burrito with Carne Asada, I always order fish or chicken! I should have known! The order taker took my order and I spoke clearly and understood that I wanted it wet with green sauce! The Manager was standing directly behind her! She called him up front and asked him out to put the ticket in! She then put it in! I waited 15 minutes and then the same manager comes out to my table and asks me did I order red sauce or green sauce? I look at my watch and now I'm pissed because I know I won't have time to eat! 10 minutes later I get my burrito and after eating 3 bites I realize there's little or no meat inside it! I finally open it up and see chips of meat and one little sliver or carne asada! I finally get frustrated because there's nothing but beans and rice in this $9.00 burrito and called a server over to show her and she said people have been complaining about the carne asada then she tells me there's only for ounces of meat in this burrito! I looked at her like, there wasn't even a ounce in my burrito! This breaks my heart because I've seen and talked to the owner of this franchise on many occasions, and he has to be hands down these nicest person EVER! I'm really sorry to have to write this review! I didn't take pics because it really looked bad! I even tipped too. I'm so disappointed because I wasted my money, my Lunch and my time. I love Wahoo's. This location is fairly close to where I live. I have already reviewed the Wahoo's at the Spectrum but because I checked in here, Yelp keeps telling me to review it. For the longest time, my go to order item was the Maui bowl. Lately I have been a fan of the one taco combo with a blackened chicken taco, black beans and brown rice (there is an extra charge for the brown rice). It is hard to me to get tired of this place. So the first time I tried Wahoo's was at South Coast Plaza, and I was very pleasantly surprised. Ever since then I've been craving fish tacos something crazy. This being a Sunday, the SCP location closes early, so we decided to try this one just down the road. I don't know if it's the management, the staff, the location, whatever, but it was not as good. Unfortunately it was not a fluke with one dish, because the rice AND the beans AND the fish were all not-fresh. The rice was old and dry, the beans were hard (undercooked, maybe?) and the fish was eh compared to the fresh fish I got from SCP. The Tapatio sauce helped both the beans and the taco, but I still couldn't finish my taco combo, it felt like I had been eating rocks. All this was on top of a crappy, difficult parking lot. I ordered a Green Chicken Enchilada and got the wrong order twice. First I got a taco, then I told them I didn't get the right order so they give me another order and I looked at it and it looked about right. Once I got home and ate the enchilada turns out it's a Shrimp enchilada and the lady that got my food before me spilled the food all over the bag, so there was sauce on the bag. I wasn't looking for EXTRA meat... Just those ingredients.... I just didn't want rice or beans in my burrito... So I asked for vegetables, but I was told I would be charged for extra.. What I got was a burrito with hardy any vegetables in it... Just looks like salsa... Again.. The food isn't bad, just terrible service. I have been coming to this wahoos for 7 years. I have ordered everything on the menu, and can honestly say, i have never been disappointed, which is saying alot. 9 times out of 10 though, being the creature of habit that i am , i usually order the #2. One taco, One enchilada. rice and beans. Side of salsa (make sure to mix it in with the rice) Their Shrimp tacos doused in tapatio(im a sucker for spicy) are absolutely orgasmic. For their enchilada you have a choice between green and red sauce. I usually order the chicken or steak enchilada. The green sauce, i think compliments the steak very well, Red compliments the chicken. The rice and beans are the best i have ever tasted from a chain. You have the option of black or white beans. Go for the white! you'll thank me. They also have a lot of vegan/vegetarian options and just added tofu to their menu. Oh wahoos, please never go out of business. I work right around the corner from Wahoos and I love it because it's easy to order to go and run in and pick it up. And they have tofu!!! yay!! I don't know how they prepare the tofu, but it's great and tasty and they give you plenty. I used to get the tacos all the time, but then I tried the tofu burrito (with beans and rice) - - it's delicious!!! I have been told by people that work there that you should always get the black beans and white rice - so I've never tried it any other way. I may try the enchiladas next, if I can bear to not have the burrito next time I go. The only down side is that it depends on who takes the order how much it costs!! I have gotten the burrito and had it been $6 something and another time it was over $7.... I guess if you walk in and order, you probably don't have that problem... However, as HUGE as they make the burritos, I am happy to pay $7 for it... I know that I won't be hungry again until dinner... :) read more
