I really enjoyed all of the sushi I ordered, with the exception of the Waka Roll--it just had a bit too much going on for my taste. I tend to prefer simpler sushi rolls where the flavors can really shine. The beef lo mein was extremely delicious--definitely a standout dish. Overall, very good food and a smooth takeout experience. I came here with my parental units for dinner about a month ago. We were trying to break out of the rut of going to the same fucking restaurant over and over again. Via yelp magic I found this place so we came here to give it a try. The menu has a wide variety of choices in many asian cuisines. They've got some thai shit on there, they've got some sushi shit on there and other japanese stuff. Whatever asian delights you might be in the mood for, I'm pretty confident they can provide it for you. I went with hot sake, even though it was roasting outside. They offered our table a plate of edamame which was a nice touch. Don't expect the same treatment though bc you're not as hot as I am. I ordered a plate of avocado rolls because I am relentlessly trying to get my mother on the sushi bandwagon. I am convinced she would enjoy that shit even though she tries to resist. Even she admitted the sushi was really good. I went with, I believe tofu teriyaki. When the plate came out, everyone's jaws dropped because it was a very impressive tofu-tower display. Even the mother fuckers at the next table turned around and asked me what I ordered. It was good, and I enjoyed it, but it wasn't spectacular. It was a ton of food and I was struggling to finish it. Came, went, saw, never returning. I only gave Waka a chance since I saw a super rave review on our local Facebook group where management changed and food was excellent. Coming from someone who has been to Japan and had real sushi as well as a foodie who frequents good places in NYC, this place was a far cry to what was said. First off, we ordered foods in the sushi roll, tempura and bento sections. Every single item received was literally covered in sugar. So if you're expecting sweets as a meal, this is the spot for you. If you're craving savory, don't do it. Secondly, the review had raved about service - this was basically non-existent, so not exactly sure what's going on. Either we live in an alternate universe, or weekends are not meant to be. Either way, it was uncomfortable how the waitress kept on insisting for us to order from the specials / appetizers / desserts when we weren't that hungry. Also trying to up-sell us or change our orders. All in all, maybe others enjoyed their time here, but I personally will not be returning. The hunt for good sushi in Westchester continues... -- It's 11:48am and the store hours are 11:45a-11p on Saturday. The doors are completely locked, called and got no response. This is our go-to spot for sushi and COVID hasn't changed that. They have a very secure plexiglass booth set up in their entrance complete with food drawer and credit card slot for no-contact take-out. Through the glass and darkened restaurant you can see the 3 sushi chefs at their counter which is lit like a theater stage, assembling sushi. I was very glad to see they are all masked. The sushi is the best in town, but they also have a large menu of traditional Japanese dishes. Their katsu, tempuras and teriyaki are all delicious. My go-to sushi place! It's so unfortunate that it's currently closed due to this situation -- however, Waka never fails to satisfy me and all of my friend's craving for sushi. When first walking in, the visual aesthetics of the restaurant was the first thing that grasped my attention. I love small town restaurants; they're so quaint and offer so much personality. I ordered the fruit salad, the classic California roll, and dumplings. I was content (not surprised nor happy, but quite content) with their prices and quantity of food they gave us. The service was very quick, and our waitress gave us a plate of honeydew, chocolate, and other little candies when we were finished. Their entire staff and team was great. I needed change for cash, and when I asked our waitress for some change, she was extremely polite and respectful and quickly brought us all the change we needed and patiently exchanged with us. She also repeatedly checked in on our table, refilling our drinks and bringing us napkins while offering her help. This is a great place to visit once this worldwide incident is over and the restaurant is open again! New Management took over 3 months ago..... Have done only takeout since that time but have had no issues with the sashimi. Great wonton soup. The new owners have a full liquor license. Has kind of a cave like vibe. The restaurant is built into a hill so the only windows are in the front of the dining room. We ordered everything and before we finished our food they came and cleared our table and then brought us a bill. Everything seemed fine but they forgot to even serve us our main entree and when we pointed out that it shouldn't be on the bill because we never got it. they brought it out to us and asked us if we wanted it now.. we politely declined and asked if it could be removed from the bill at which point the manager seem to get angry and stormed off into the kitchen. Waka was our "go to" place for a few years. I'm particular about my sushi and sashimi, but they had the quality I liked. They also had good fried rice for my son and rolls for my other son. On top of that, the wait staff and owner seemed like they really cared about providing good food and service and not just extracting the maximum amount of money. Then I went about 2 weeks ago and the wait staff had changed. No biggy, it happens sometimes. It felt different, but whatever. Then our food came. My sushi tasted off. My sons sushi rolls tasted off. My other son's rice dish was smaller than usual, and they tried to charge us for putting the vegetable on the side instead of in the fried rice like we normally do. I was hungry, but couldn't finish most of the sushi (it didn't taste good) - that's a first. I told them and to their credit, they discounted the bill by a little (not the usual manager, but I didn't think much of it). Then I went back again 2 weeks later and when I saw all different wait staff in the restaurant, I asked if they had changed management. They had. I left before buying anything. Are they buying cheaper fish? I can't know for sure. Do they have a different culture in the restaurant? Seems like it. OK so I've eaten here many many times, take out, delivery, sit down, and I've even tried takeout through grub hub! I've had their food so many times because I've been on the fence with Waka for a long time. Tonight has sealed my opinion of Waka. Food- generally pretty good. Sushi is ok, I used to be a big fan of their sushi because it WAS good! It has changed within the past year. I can't quite pinpoint what has changed but something has changed. Maybe the quality of ingredients or new kitchen/sushi staff? I'm not sure. Service- (sitdown) whenever I go there its either a large table of college/highschool students talking obnoxiously loud or we are the only table. Also be prepared to get stared at by the staff. Its as if they have nothing better to do then stare at me while I'm eating? Common. (Take out) for god sakes hire someone who can speak English fluently. Its not that much to ask. I always have specific instructions with my takeout orders due to a food allergy. And its always so hard explaining this to them. It takes a good 5 mins of repeating myself for them to at least kind of understand what I'm saying. And even then its a 50/50 chance of them still not getting it right. Been coming here fir a long time. At lunch usually wind up with a bento bo x and always found it fresh and tasty. Given the special lunch price this is one heck of a deal. In the evening my wife seems to be in a rut in that she always gets the crispy duck. It is crisp and not a drop of fat anywhere. One of the best dishes we've ever had. Had a crispy duck in a new Japanese restaurant in Thornwood and had to send it back. Had the duck in a well known spanu st restaurant in My Kisco and it was horrible. We'll just have to stay at Waka for duck. The atmosphere is conducive to dining. Nothing loud, the tables are fairly spaced and the service is more than adequate. read more

Waka roll is my favorite here. They do a lot of rice paper rice-less sushi rolls here. It's almost like a Vietnamese summer roll with its rice paper wrap but inside is raw fish and veggies. That's like two of my favorite things combined into one. Fish is also fresh and not icy like you find it at some other sushi places. You could also tell that they put effort in their presentation. Outside of the food, everything else was on point. Good service with lots of smiles. The staff are attentive and quick. They also have high ceilings here which makes things feel lively and open unlike other sushi places. I actually eat around this neighborhood often and this place is my go to Japanese place. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the mood for sushi. They also have sake deals for when you want to have that alcohol fix. read more

An evening here was one of my greatest restaurant experiences! Firstly starting the evening in the very nice, modern Asian-decorated lounge with drinks right through the expertly made and presented meals. The food was all fresh, the sushi itself looked like it was prepared in the morning and nothing looked sub-par in the restaurant. One thing that immediately made an impression on me was the friendliness of the staff. Often, the staff would normally just try to get the job done and usher in the waiting customers but it was not the case here. Great sushi in the neighborhood. We ordered take out after a long day of shopping. The pepper tuna with avocado is fantastic. All the rolls had a perfect amount of fish and rice proportion with a fair portion. The spicy tuna and salmon are also on the top of my list. Also ordered edamame which actually came warm all the way even with a deliver - great surprise and a Kani salad which is a new sushi store favorite of mine and this one came with a great surprise of crispies on the top. The crab meat they use is great and actually tasted like crab unlike many other places. Delivery was quick and easy only took about 20 minutes since the store is conveniently located in the chappaqua area. They also gave just the right amount of soy sauce and sides of ginger and spicy wasabi chunks. This is the second time that I have taken out from this Chappaqua restaurant. I was unimpressed the first time but was willing to give it another shot. The food was extremely uninspired (especially the non Japanese fare),but what unimpressed me even more was the horrible service level. I had a $100+ take out order and was greeted by the young women at the desk by a blank stare and a request for my phone number (to identify my order). She printed up my receipt and give me my order without so much as a Thank you. It is no wonder that the place only had two tables filled on a Friday night.
