Definitely my new go to sushi and dumpling spot! I've been coming to Dai Sushi consistently now for a while now and as a Westchester native this is my best recommendation. Small little place for sure but it does also have an upstairs area. Small bathrooms, could be cleaner. Because of it being small on the weekends my tip is always a reservation especially in the summer time, this place gets super hectic!!! Food: The sushi here is incredible. I've ordered pick up from here a couple of times and thought the sushi was just okay. I keep wanting to like the spicy tuna on crispy rice but each time I get it, it tastes a bit fishy. The special rolls are good, but it's disappointing that the spicy tuna isn't good. read more

Pretty good sushi and welcoming service behind an unassuming storefront. My parents and I shared a bunch of dishes - our favorites were the chirashi maki (I loved the delicate knifework with the thin radish wrapper) and the agedashi tofu (nicely crispy without being too oily - it wasn't the usual deep golden brown that I normally associate with the dish). The tonkotsu ramen was all right - the noodles were obviously pre-packaged and flash boiled, and the broth overly salted. I've long ignored the ramen section of any Japanese restaurant that also serves a whole menu page of signature sushi rolls but my mom wanted noodles. My dad's oyako don was also just okay - chicken was too tough, without any flavor, but the rice was nicely seasoned with the sauce. The mushroom salad was a tad heavy-handed on the sodium as well. There was no stop to the customers rolling through on a Saturday right at opening, with plenty of regulars and take-out orders. Dai Sushi was not a good experience for me and my friend. We were there Friday evening, not reservation, but they tell us to wait outside for 50 minutes and they will text us when the time would come, not text, after that they tell us to wait 25 more minutes. Never texted us, and the young man kept telling us to wait more, after waiting for more than two hours. We decided to go to another shushi place in town (Miyabi) and was very delicious and nice experience. read more

Came here for some takeout on my birthday on recommendation from someone. I only got a glance inside but the ambiance looked quaint and nice. While none of the rolls come "inside out" by default like most Japanese establishments (why must you charge extra for this??), and they mistook part of my order, most of the food was good! Let's dive in... Oyako Donburi (3/5): This Donburi was fairly simplistic with a good sauce. I often find this dish has ample veggies and sauce which this was lacking a bit. The chicken was also plainly cooked. The rice was incredibly fluffy however. Lunch Special -- 3 Sushi Rolls and Salad (5/5): I really enjoyed this lunch special which included a soup or salad and three rolls for a pinch over $20. I was blown away by the salad which included a toothsome oniony dressing, instead of the typical carrot ginger dressing. I found the Umo Shiso Fluke to have such a unique flavor -- salty and almost floral notes. I had never tried it before anywhere but would get it again. I had ordered a spicy salmon but got spicy tuna. It wasn't prohibitive as the fish was a massive piece with a splash of spicy sauce; this roll often is small chunked fish with sauce and tempura flakes but this was a different take on it; very fresh but wanted more sauce. The shrimp tempura was the star of this set with a beautiful crunchy tempura shrimp, fish eggs, and avocado. I'd come back just for that roll. Miso Soup (4/5): Very average but still flavorful miso soup with seaweed chunks. Service (5/5): Food was ready a few minutes after the estimated time but the gentleman at the front assured me the food was just being boxed up when I arrived. I was explaining to him how excited I was to try this place as a birthday treat. Yum! The front hostess gave me a handful of candies on my way out which was very kind! Excellent quality sushi and sashimi. I met work colleagues for dinner this week and Dai Sushi was highly recommended by one that lives nearby. I can understand why. I decided to try the chirashi sushi with a few a la carte pieces: salmon, yellowtail, ikura and uni. It's really hard to find uni where I live currently, so I was excited to see it on the menu. Uni is also a really good test of how fresh the sushi really is...because it's quite nasty when it's not. This piece was uni perfection. They accidentally brought a piece of tuna sushi, so I got to try that as well. Everything was extremely fresh and super high quality. I was still hungry and ordered a salmon avocado roll - also fantastic. My colleagues had specialty rolls, sushi/sashimi combination, California roll and some adult beverages (sake and wine). I had some hot green tea - also great. It's not a big space and a little tight - with tables quite close to each other. Street parking was available when I arrived; not sure if there is a lot nearby. My last visit to Dai Sushi was over half a decade ago, and I decided to return as I was in the mood for some sushi. -AMBIANCE- We came here on a Friday evening for dinner. They were quite busy with a bunch of takeout orders and only had to wait a short bit for a table where we were seated immediately upstairs. The space is very cozy and quaint, other than this one fly that we had to keep swatting away.. -SERVICE- The service improved relative to my last visit there. It seems like there's a dedicated waiter upstairs which made for a much better experience. -FOOD- The food is still great and I would highly recommend the sushi! I ordered their Maki Combination which came with spicy tuna, salmon avocado and shrimp tempura. Sushi was very fresh and it also comes with a warm, comforting miso soup. I also got to try their Chicken Kushiyaki which is a skewer that comes in a choice of either teriyaki or spicy BBQ sauce. The chicken was very tender and it was very good overall, despite the sauce being a bit saltier than I'd like. Overall, still a pleasant experience in Pleasantville! read more

Service here is excellent and incredibly swift. My record for getting in and out is about 20 minutes I think. Excellent as always! Quality sushi without breaking the bank. I'm just sad that now the secret is out. Everyone in the area just heads to Chef Alex and sometimes I couldn't even get a table even on weekdays. I live further south in Westchester but we drive up just to get my favorites. Highly recommended is the counter table omakase (if chef Alex isn't busy) or deluxe sashimi (if he is busy). She claims she's checking to see how long your order is gonna be but when she comes back she doesn't acknowledge you or give you a timeline. An order placed after me was ready and when I asked why mine wasn't ready yet or how long it was gonna be, she said she didn't know. Even though had provided timeframes to food app delivery persons. I live in NYC, but I am occasionally in the Westchester area. For this price range, you cannot get anything even CLOSE to as good in the city. Really solid Japanese food, some of the best in Westchester, and one of the few to actually offer straight-up Japanese (and not try to serve Chinese, Korean and everything Asian under the sun). Best sushi in Pleasantville. Cozy and intimate setting. Always consistent quality and service. All of the a la carte sushi and sashimi classics are always good. Among the classics, I always appreciate the rich fatty toro, the firm Spanish mackerel, the light sweetness of the yellowtail. Among the specialty rolls, I recommend the Lobster Roll (lobster tempura, avocado, masago, wrapped with soybean paper, topped with truffle aioli), the Chirashi Maki (tuna, salmon, yellowtail, kani, white fish, avocado, masago and tamago), and the Volcano Roll (shrimp tempura inside, spicy tuna and crunch on the top). Many mistakes were made on each occassion at DaiSushi, but for this special night we decided to give Dai Sushi another try. Placed an order at 6:15pm received a receipt stating it would be ready at 8:30. Confirmed it will be ready. Stood on a long line for 20 mins, where the young lady had gotten many orders mixed up, lots of unhappy people. She had cancelled our order?!?! and argued with other customers. Not worth the drama, the argumentive staff, and the chaos. With sushi, one must be super clean, precise, and careful. Unfortunately, Dai Sushi is not. read more
