After several stellar sushi takeout meals from Raku, we recently decided to change up our order a bit. We still kept the Sushi Sandwich, Eel Avocado Roll, Mango Hawaii Roll, and the Pink Lady Roll, all of which have been consistently unbelievable. However, we also swapped in some substitutes for the other rolls. First, we included a Yellowtail Scallion Roll, which was a bit small, but delicious. Then, we also incorporated the Shrimp Hibachi, which came with white rice and a clear soup. The broth had a lot of flavor and contained fragrant mushrooms. The hibachi dish had a load of fresh vegetables (carrots, broccoli, zucchini, onions, and mushrooms) and a generous portion of grilled shrimp that were cooked through to the perfect plumb bites. The sauce was lighter than a teriyaki would have been, which was what we were hoping for. Yet again, it was another excellent curation of menu items. In all honestly good, but very overrated and over priced. The sushi and fried rice weren't anything very special, and the proportions were small. I shouldn't walk away with my wife hungry after spending $100. The bathroom also had minimal to no soap, which is never a good sign. The wait time was long for basic meals. A small plate of beef fried rice tools 30+ minutes. The Chicken Yakitori was also extremely small, with two skewers for $8. Be warned: everything on the menus in the photos is up $5 across the board. I will say, the green tea fried ice cream was pretty good, and wowed me a little. read more

Good sushi for it being outside NYC, but definitely needs that qualifier. The kaisen chirashi lunch set was very pretty with all the little bowls. Most of the fish was good, but octopus was too chewy and flavorless and herring (or whatever it was) flavor was too strong, wish they didn't include that one. My mom enjoyed her shrimp tempura roll but thought the California roll was only okay, not too different from supermarket sushi. Our waitress was very nice and attentive, wish she would have described what fish is in each bowl though as that's usually part of a"chef's choice" experience. Wheelchair access: there are a few accessible tables on the sidewalk for outdoor dining, entrance is barrier-free. Not sure about restroom. read more

This is by far the easiest 5 stars I could give to a restaurant. I'm so happy I drove passed this place and decided to stop because I was initially heading somewhere else! I would have been deprived of the best sushi you are going to find in Rockland County- and as a self proclaimed foodie- I can confidently say that. The atmosphere is beautiful- very zen. Extremely well designed. Beyond that, the staff was so attentive- even on a busy night. The fish tastes fresh every time ( I've been back 4 times since I first went) ! The crispy rice is my favorite item on the menu (so far) - its the perfect bite with just the right amount of everything! Chefs kiss... The Hawaiian mango roll was light and refreshing and the salad dressing is really addicting! I don't think I can translate into words just how much I enjoy this place! I rave about this place to everyone and I think they deserve to have a waitlist every night because it's really is just that good. I'm not sure why I didn't like this place when I first came here, but when I went the second time I had a much better experience. The food here is fantastic, the sushi is of high quality and the service was quick. The restaurant was about half full. My daughter had the gyoza and avocado rolls, which were fair, and I had the Crispy rice with spicy tuna and the Kaisan Chirashi. The Kaisan Chirashi was spectacular. read more

Came here for a belated 25th anniversary dinner. Cute and clean restaurant and the service is excellent. Enjoyed the quality of fish, similar to NYC omakase, but not nearly as expensive! They try and accommodate gluten free as much as they can. We got the soft shell crab for my husband, it was good but he prefers a lighter batter, it was too much for him and the mango sauce alittle on the sweet side. He also got the sashimi set and I got the fun chirashi in a box. Unfortunately only had the finished product to share.... Definitely recommend Raku! read more

The sushi sandwich at Raku is a must try. They also have a nice selection of rolls and the fish is nice and fresh. The restaurant is small and can get busy as they also do a lot of take out but you can usually get a spot at the sushi bar. read more

Our Sushi Chef, Mark gave us the grand tour of their Uber-fresh selection of fish at the bar, and then prepared everything he touched with love and skill. Our server, Simon smartly recommended that Chef Mark assemble the Kaisen Chirashi box whose beauty was only surpassed by the flavors represented. The Miso Soup was light and chock full of scallions and seaweed. One of Mary's favs is Agedashi Tofu-Raku passed her taste test with flying colors. The folks at Raku get it. I am a die-hard sushi lover, not to be confused with mushy lover - which often sushi can be when not from good fish. At Raku, a tiny and clean Japanese restaurant In Nyack, the fish is not camouflaged by heavy sauces, and a menu Americanized with cream cheese, fake crab, and french fries... slightly dramatic adding the latter ingredient but not by much. The fish is kept simple and tasty. Their Lychee Martini is perfectly proportioned in the amount of lychee juice to vodka, and the eye glassed waiter is attentive without being intrusive.
