Who would have thought that this unassuming, hole in the wall sushi spot would be such a hidden gem?!?! My bf and I decided to check out this place and we both left feeling so satisfied and happy with our experience. The food is pretty good quality and very flavorful. We got a bunch of different things to try out and we honestly loved each one. Protein was melt-in- your- mouth tender when it needed to be, sushi was fresh but also had depth of flavor with sweetness, spice, and smokiness all in each bite, and I loved how the special rolls had a lot of toppings to add either flavor or texture. All of these things really a testament to how this place values truly quality. Other than the food, I also really appreciated the service here. Our waiter was very kind, offered great recommendations, and checked up on us often. The chefs even gave us complementary salmon sushi to try out which was so nice of them :') Went here when the weather outside was so so cold, but the food and experience here truly warmed our hearts. Wonderfully orchestrated menu with lots of choices and perfect and plentiful presentations. Good sake and beer selection. Lunch specials looked good but too much rice (sushi) for my diet. I had the spicy yellowtail sashimi with mango and jalapeño. Tried the Kagua Beer (Rouge). One of, if not the best Sushi restaurant in the greater Peekskill area. Started off w/ the Negihama, which was maybe the best I've ever had, and that's saying something, since I've probably had it a couple hundred times. Asagao is back open for lunch! Although the AC was out, they had a backup that made it tolerable. I had a bulgogi lunch special and they accommodated a brown rice request. Spot on. This place is a true gem in Croton. Sushi is always fresh, even without AC. The service is attentive and outstandingly friendly. They have a great selection of sakes, which I browsed, but didn't indulge at lunch. I know, I'm sure it's drink o'clock somewhere.... ast night we went to Asago and as usual we were greeted with a warm greeting. The food was beyond spectacular. Chef Paul and Chef Lee take so much pride in there work and fish is always fresh. The food at Asago is not just Japanese Food. It is actually a culinary adventure. The treasure Island roll and something roll were absolutely spectacular and so was the sushi. Disappointed by the management's treatment of staff. Tips are not given to waiters, the management takes their tips. The waiters only get hourly pay, it's minimal. I was there a few weeks ago and was shocked, I loved the service and was very disappointed when I found out about this blatant mistreatment. I would tip in cash and very hush-hush, it's ridiculous that we have to do that. The food is not cheap, they employ school kids and rob them. Gave 3 stars for the food. Had ramen delivery thru DoorDash. Had great review so I tried it, even tho that's expensive for ramen. Very disappointed- broth wasn't that rich, milky broth that I was hoping for. The food is generally terrific, but everything is skimpy.. especially takeout; soup containers filled 1/2 way without tofu or scallions, soy sauce is less than 1/3 filled, and their rolls overall, *much* smaller than in person to fit in the tiny take away container. When dining in, have to consistently ask for more water, sugar for tea, ginger, etc. The server once told us, "don't use all of the sugar (packets), it's all we have". Important and noteworthy: their "vegetarian" ramen is made with "Dashi broth", which traditionally contains bonito..(fish); the server was unable to verify 100%. It feels unlikely they will modify any of the menu or practices, but I remain hopeful! So, if you have no allergies, are able to overlook and dine in, it's one of the better sushi spots on the Hudson. read more

My kids enjoyed their Edamame and shrimp Shumai while my hubs and I demolished their 12-piece Sashimi Plate and Something and Foxwood sushi rolls. While both rolls were delicious, I super recommend the Foxwood. The slightly spicy flavor combination of salmon, seared tuna, avocado, seaweed salad, and tobiko was bomb! My fav aspect about Asagao is the party, take out platters. You have to give them a heads up ahead of time so they can prep it, but the price and quality are so damn worth it! They really seem to put the extra love into their sushi and the ingredients seem a bit better than almost all the other local spots. One thing to note though, is that they recently changed their hours and now they are dinner only. I made that mistake and wanted a party platter but to my dismay, they now open at 5pm. I was heading home from a big job interview and decided i was hungry for sushi, i passed by samurai (never ever again) and saw a little hole in the wall in a strip mall, so i decided to give it a shot. I was greeted by the friendly and helpful sushi chef/waiter/manager i have no clue, he reccomended a lovely bottle of sake upon my request, and that was down to the finest detail what i wanted from a sake. I then ordered chutoro (medium fatty tuna) and hamachi (yellowtail) sushi for my starter, with a bowl of tonkotsu ramen as my main. The sushi was decadent to say the least, beautiful generous slices of fresh fish nestled on beds of masterfully crafted sushi rice. The bites were big, but the deliciousness of the fish, the way the meat and fat melted in the mouth and bonded with the rice and a light dip in the delightful soy sauce provided made them go down as if i were eating small slices of sashimi. Halfway through my sushi course, a gorgeous steaming bowl of ramen came out (and quickly!) a rich bone broth (which upon giving my compliments to the chef i learned takes over 11 hours of careful work to make! Wow!) and silky yet firm noodles topped with several slices of tender charshu pork, bean sprouts, dark mushrooms, scallions, a half egg, garlic chips and oil. The smell, the heat on my face, i was quaffing the hot soup effortlessly, it felt as if i had been transported to okinawa for five minutes (the amount of time it took me to finish the soup! It was so good i didnt mind a burnt tongue!) In finishing, if you are a lover of sushi, or ramen, or simply are looking for a succulent japanese meal with friendly service, don't waste your time up the road, asagao will forever have this yelper as a loyal customer, i will be returning there soon, hungry for more. read more
