We came on a Sunday around 3:30 and there was still a 30 minute wait around that time! The Salmon Party and the Dragon Roll was definitely a favorite, the salmon cuts were thick and fresh. This place was a solid choice for a mid afternoon meal. The place was empty and we were in and out in under an hour for a party of 6. You order from a tablet and the food comes out in the belt pretty quickly. The tablet can be confusing on what you can get such as getting refills on your drinks so you may have to just call the server. The service however was very friendly. I would suggest a general menu page whether electronic or printed because it was a little confusing to go through all the tabs and see what all the choices were. Also, it's slower and harder to order as a big group because only one person can really see the menu at a time. Highly suggest getting the scallops. Comes as a set of 4. Variety. The wait is atrocious but the food is quite on point and it makes sense why there is so much hype at this restaurant. On a Wednesday afternoon, the line was already forming outside prior to opening time which shows the popularity of this place. There are 3 bathrooms inside and I have to note that one of the bathrooms show a baby changing station, which parents can greatly appreciate. The inside is cool and spacious and the conveyer belts are a really neat / efficient. I love that they even track how long it takes to have the order made and everything is logged on their iPad ordering system. For 2 people the meal came out just over $80 including the cheesecake and matcha Mont Blanc dessert. The dessert was OK but the sushi was quite delicious, including the wagyu trio that was super tasty. Love this as it reminds me of Kura Sushi. The price is similar to Kura Sushi, but the quality of the food is better. We are salmon girlies and we kept ordering salmon dishes. They were amazing. I like how they made the sushi by order so there weren't a variety of pre-made sushi moving a conveyor belt beforehand. AYCE sushi places like Tomikawa (which I still like) may give you a lot more food but the quality is not the same either. Came here as soon as it opened for lunch and there was no wait. The staff was friendly and helpful. Ordering on tablet was easy and there was an option to do it on your own phone too. Enjoyed the fresh wasabi. I appreciate a restaurant that takes sushi rice seriously, and Waka Sakura does. The standouts we had were tuna nigiri, salmon skin hand roll, eel nigiri, and scallop nigiri. I stopped by the newly opened Waka Sakura next to Tokyo Central right when they opened. We put our name on the waitlist and ended up waiting an hour for a table. What was confusing was that there were several booths available when we were finally seated. The staff were quick to pick up dishes and keep the table tidy. All of the ordering was completed on a screen at the booth. Some items like condiments and drinks are brought out by staff while the food comes out on a conveyor belt. The food was good but the flavors weren't always there. Some rolls were great and flavorful while others were dull. I honestly couldn't wait for Waka Sakura to open up here in Irvine! I heard really good reviews about their location in Gardena and it did not disappoint. I came on their grand opening to dine in and we were able to put ourselves on the waitlist. It's super nice inside and had such a modern look. You're able to order through the tablet or from the QR code on your receipt. There were so many options to choose from but today I decided to try the Salmon Party, Blue Fatty Tuna, and Engawa. The quality was so so so good! Every bite I had was to die for- it really made me miss Japan. First thing's first: this place is an insanely good value, and the food is delivered crazy fast! As in, I actually wonder what their kitchen looks like - there must be some robots helping prepare this stuff. I didn't take the most detailed notes but some memorable things: - Winners: The scallops were BOSS. I don't usually wind up loving scallops from sushi restaurants but here they were great. Uni was also great! Somehow I didn't expect a place with this kind of "fun" vibe to have it but they did and it was a great value. In fact, it's worth coming here if you just need an uni fix. Oh, and the Ikura but that's great at lots of places. - Losers: There were a few items that offered a "salt" sauce but I think it was actually an onion sauce we got on those items, and it wasn't the best. Skip that one. The seared items were barely seared... like maybe they ran out of time searing things while trying to hit a 100 second long delivery window or something. Chutoro and "wagyu" were not the highest quality but they were very affordably priced. - Decent: everything else! salmon, hamachi, you know the drill. This is the second Waka Sushi chain that just opened in June/July. The original is in Torrance. The restaurant is neighbors to Tokyo Central, but does not connect to the market. If there is a wait, they will have a tablet out front for you to check in. The text messages are quick and accurate so when we checked in, the wait was 20 mins and I got 3 text total. First to confirm the wait-list, second to let me know I'm now 3rd in line (to start making your way over), and 3rd when your table is ready. We were shopping around the market to kill some time before hand so having an accurate texting system for the wait-list is perfect! Like the Torrance location, the menu is identical. We absolutely LOVE the salmon Trio plate!! Our favorite item is hands down their salmon nigiri with mayo onion! So good!!! Food comes out very quickly! Service was also quick! Compared to Torrance location, we felt the fish quality was amazingly fresh and delicious tonight! I couldn't think of anything bad or anything that needed improvement with the food. Rice wasn't hot nor cold, it was room temp but not hard, to just perfect! All the fish we had, salmon, tuna, and yellowtail were all so buttery and fresh!!! With this place next to Tokyo Central, there was a ton of hype. When this place first opened, you couldn't get a table, but now on a Monday night there's no line, and it's clear why. The store smells fishy, which is not normal for a sushi spot, indicating the fish is not fresh. Prices are way too high for what you get: three tiny pieces of sashimi for $8, hand rolls with nothing special (just brown rice and minced fish) for $4 each - u are better off going to ROL handbar in the same lot for better quality To make things worse, my water cup had a crack in it and was leaking all over the table. We kept wiping it down thinking it was condensation until halfway through the meal when we realized the cup itself was broken We tried an array of rolls, sashimi, handrolls but it was really nothing special unfortuantely. If you're looking for a deal, the salmon party is six pieces for $12--and while that's decent, you're honestly better off walking next door to Tokyo Central and grabbing your own sashimi. Excited to try this place since it's right next to the Tokyo Central (separate building right next door). Thought it'd be very busy on a weekend (it did get busy eventually) but we came a little after opening on a Sunday was a good 10-15min wait. The host was also very helpful, giving us great insight on when to come back since we were waiting for more people, when to put our names on the list again and was so gracious in seating us. The ambiance was great- bright and clean, and the conveyor belts were fast to bring orders and the booths were spacious for our party of 7 (including 3 kids).
