MJ is just amazing I normally come in but I didn't know that they closed today at 1:00 even though I was late. She informed me that there was going to be a new lunch menu to get ready for and she was so professional and so nice and so courteous and while she was talking to me she was sweeping the front and I was just like wow what a very professional, great experience I was able to have. Even though it wasn't amazing news that they were close. The flavor and tenderness of the steak balance well with the crispy (non-greasy) tater tots, cheddar cheese, and the crispy burrito crust on the outside. I like the chipotle aioli side because that's less spicy than the cilantro crema. It is more pricey (~$40 for 2 steak burritos), but I think the quality makes up for it (for the most part). I stopped by this breakfast spot in Pasadena and had one of the best breakfast burritos I've ever had. Everything tasted fresh, organic, and full of flavor. You can really tell they care about the quality of their ingredients. Even the coffee was excellent, which made the whole experience even better. What stood out just as much as the food was the service. The people working there were full of energy, very polite, and made the place feel welcoming from the moment I walked in. One star for the price. I have been several times. Each time the burritos keep getting smaller. I'm sorry for $18 a burrito I expect a lot more. The taste has always been good, but this last time they burned the meat and why over cooked the hash browns. The flavors also felt definitely off. The burrito sizes has gotten way smaller. Now they are a tiny little tube with mostly eggs some extra extra crispy hash browns rounds, and a pinch of meat. I bit into the burrito and tasted burned bacon, flour tortilla, and crunchy over cooked hash browns and scrambled egg. There was barely any egg in the first bite, but the rest mostly eggs. Couldn't taste the cheese, but the burnt bacon took over most of the flavor. I would have taken it back if I was still in the area. The sauce they added also has gotten smaller and I ran out before finishing my burrito. The sauce flavor seems to have been changed as well since the last time I was there. The first time I was there I could split a burrito with my wife, but not anymore. They now put the burritos in a box that contains the tiny slide of sauce, and the burrito. The coffee size was a complete joke for the price. We also got two bagels with cream cheese. One plain and scallion. The first thing my wife says was "did they shrink the amount of cream cheese." I looked at mine and said "yep". I think our order total was well over fifty dollars. My wife ordered online a half hour before we got there (28 minutes I checked), I jumped out of the car to get it and i waited another 25 minutes. They told me it was the next order, but i think they made it when i showed up. The staff seemed to be running around with there heads cutoff. Seemed like a lot of chaos. The "free" water jars were out of water and no one was able to fill it up. There was a lot of front of staff workers it seemed. I think I counted about 12. Couldn't see how many in the back. The ones that I saw were all frantically running around. There a lot of customer ordering take-out and several eating in the dining area, but didn't seem that crowded for how much staff was there. If seemed to be poorly managed. I did not take a pictures the food, but I got a few of the box and a soda can. My burrito was thinner than the soda can, slightly longer. Swung by Wake and Late for the first time this morning and I had a really great experience. The staff were very welcoming, positive, and helpful. The cooks in the back all looked so happy it made me happy. The restaurant itself has a high ceiling that was dope to look up at (I know this might sound weird haha). AND we were graced by the presence of this really fluffy good girl (yes I'm talking about a dog). As to the food, I had the steak burrito. A great mix of flavors with the juicy, grass-fed carne asada standing out, balanced by the rich eggs and creamy avocado. The tater tots gave a nice crunch, and the cheddar ties everything together with a sharp bite. I also got to try the parm and plain bagels! The parm was crispy and cheesy on the outside and soft and airy inside. Paired this one with the scallion spread that was honestly perfect for me cuz I'm all about my green onions. Service was amazing greeted by friendly staff and got my food pretty quick. The cashier was also helpful in helping us pick out what sauce to get. When you walk in to the restaurant it does look a bit weird, kind of like walking into an amazon warehouse. The white building reminds me of a victorian building but kind of like a psychiatric ward. I do see projectors so that might be why. Additionally they cover all the windows with wallpaper and have amazon type lockers. It just looks a little dystopian to me. However, they are very efficient. When you pick up your order you can scan your screen and the locker will open up. Just make sure that when you order you have a screenshot or link to the final page of the order. The person handing me my order kind of ignored me while I was asking about my coffee but maybe jt was cause I didn't do it correctly. The coffee has a strong flavor but it is a bit small. The burrito was a solid breakfast burrito but nothing really special. Their cilantro sauce was not spicy but very creamy I think I would prefer one of the other sauces. I saw some people get more than one sauce so it might be possible to ask for more. Their price was a bit high as they don't allow tipping. I truly don't understand how it's possible for a place to be charging this much money on their food but not be able to hire enough staff to make the food.
