In town for a couple of days for work and I didn't know what I felt like eating.. Decided to try this place out and didn't really have high expectations since it was a Korean/Japanese place. So I ordered the paper tuna sushi - that was surprisingly decent due to the size of fish and it was cooked correctly. Then I also got the bibimbap with beef and it wasn't too bad either. Guess it would have been better if I actually ate there in a hot clay pot but I was feeling lazy and wanted to eat in my hotel. And for a drink I decided to try the black Thai tea, which could have been Better since the boba balls weren't as good as what I'm use to back home. Overall the food was good I guess for Waco and I'd probably come back to try the other sushi. read more

My bestfriend went into the restaurant last night about 8pm for her brother-in-laws birthday with their parents/grandparents. I'm posting this for her as she's non-confrontational. It's very frustrating to hear about her experience there. Their grandparents are old and and fragile and they decided to sit at the nearest table as they can't walk very far. Once everyone decided to sit at the big table near the ordering area, an employee (Hispanic girl with long nails) came up to them saying they couldn't sit there because it was for "employees only". My friend asked if she joking as there was no sign anywhere on the table. The employee rudely stated she was not joking as it's for "employees only". So, she left them with their grandparents having to move across the room to the other large table. Not only was that frustrating to hear, but that same employee delivered their food with her long nails not covered and that seems unsanitary if you ask me. If you work at any food business, employees delivering food should NOT have long nails, and if so PLEASE wear gloves. Also, my friend was curious if they can cook the salmon in her sushi and the same rude employee yelled from the back that they could not. Her tone and demeanor made their experience terrible. This is so frustrating to know that the employee MADE an elderly couple who could barely walk, get up and move across room. They chose that table for a reason. If there is an employee only table, then there should be A SIGN. My best friend goes there often as she loves Wako Roll, but that employee was out of line for her actions. If that were my grandparents I would have NOT moved or I would have left, especially as she was being rude. The employee could have left it slide as there was no sign. I know damn well she would have acted like a fool if that were her parents or grandparents. Have some RESPECT for elders! read more

I keep coming back to Wako Roll because it's been consistently great. I've been loving the Baylor roll which is like a fancy dressed up version of a cali roll--definitely try this!! I'll take photos next time I order it. I love this Asian fusion restaurant, it really works for Waco. The food is good, prices are great, and it's one of the few tasty & healthy restaurants in Waco. If you ordered something you didn't like here, I recommend trying the Baylor Roll or the Bulgogi Taco. I also like the hot california roll, however, it's pretty spicy. read more

So this review is tough because I REALLY want to like this place. It clearly has a lot of potential! Presentation is great, but the details and experience leave A LOT to be desired for the price you pay. Full Review: 1st off, the presentation was BEAUTIFUL, each roll looked great and the rolls came out fast, but that's where the positives ended for me. The problem comes down to the price really. $103 for 5 rolls here AND it's not a true sit down restaurant. You order the food at the counter, pay, then get your own drink, your own wasabi, your own to-go boxes, they just bring the food to the table. A full service sushi restaurant will set you back $80-$105 for 5 rolls, but that's full service, this is not. Also, this place is small and the girls working the counter are loud, you can clearly hear them talking and laughing, no one came to clear our table at all during the meal, ask how the food is, nothing. There was also an old women laying down in the booth, the staff saw her and walked by, did not even ask if she was ok, just wanted to go back to her conversation. The food, while beautiful, did not have a lot of flavor, although it looks like it would......weird?.....I think it has to do with their rice, either what they buy or how they make it, because it does not have the same texture as most other sushi restaurants, more mushy here. Also, the wasabi here is the cheapest, watery, paste like stuff you find at most buffets, not sushi places......may not be a big deal to some, but it does effect the taste and for $103, this place left a lot to be desired......for $50-$60 for these 5 rolls, MAN, this place would be great, I'd have no complaints, you get what you pay for, but for $103, definitely not worth it. *also, as a side note, their food is stored in refrigerators next to the front door?!? Service. Despicable except for the one gentleman waiter who apologized after terrible, rude service by another staff member. Instead of apologizing for getting our meal as take out instead of dine-in, she rudely pointed that out and walked away. We had 2 toddlers and all of us sitting in a booth. Doesn't take much critical thinking to assume some sort of disconnect there?? Did not offer to unpack the food and serve on regular dishes, just straight up walked away. When we asked to have our meals served as dine-in, our other gentleman waiter kindly offered to do so. And then, another mistake/miscommunication happened where we were told they couldn't have our soup boiling piping hot because it had already cooled, I guess some sort of communication lost in translation??, but then she proceeds to lay the blame on the kind waiter for said miscommunication. Never once did she offer a single apology and proceeded to make faces at us at the end. The supposed owner then says it was both our mistake and theirs. No, the machines are faulty (and have always been malfunctioning every time we've come there) and even if it was our mistake, that is Customer service 101, you don't blame the customer especially if we're not being rude about it! I only tolerated this place with barely average quality food because of my wife. otherwise. Now for sure we're never coming back! read more

Was too nervous to try the sushi after my experience at Teriyaki park as the menus look the same. I have been going to Wako roll since it opened many years ago and always order the bibimbap in the classic hot clay pot. I was in complete and utter shock with some despair mixed in when I received my most recent portion. The contents of the clay pot were lukewarm at best. The pork portion was very slim and over cooked. This applies to my girlfriends clay pot as well. I will return to try a clay pot again. I hope I am more satisfied next time. This place has come a long way since it first opened. If you go during the weekday and want sushi, definitely get the Baylor #1 or 2 because you get 3 rolls for around 10 dollars. This place has been around for a while, and believe me when I say it used to be an amazing place (and quite frankly the ONLY place) to get decent sushi in Waco. However, the establishment today is one of the most disappointing places to eat at, there's so much potential yet it is underwhelming at best. I usually get the Lunch Special No. 2 and it's pretty decently priced and includes 3 4-5 piece rolls. But the past two times I've eaten at Wako Roll the rolls have been slapped on the tray and were made in such a lazy way I had to scoop each piece up with a fork because the rice and all it's filling would just crumble like kinetic sand. And the flavor of these rolls was awful and not worth the money spent on them. I couldn't even finish my tray because of the taste. The overall establishment has also gone downhill, it's a little gross and grimy and in need of a thorough clean. The employees are distracted and at times rude, it seems like if you ask them a question or are trying to order/pay for your meal you're simply just a big inconvenience to them, very uncomfortable. I'm giving Wako Roll 2 stars only because of the place it used to be, if that weren't the case it'd be an easy 1 star establishment. Based on what I had and the extremely helpful and friendly service, this place was really great! Huge menu, which was a bit overwhelming but the girls at the counter were really helpful and jumped right in when I told them "I have no idea what I want!". They asked the right questions and I ended up ordering the spicy yaki noodles with chicken, which ended up being he perfect choice! Big portion, easily could have shared! The price point was a little high if dining alone, but the portion is totally shareable ! I didn't try the sushi, but for me sushi isn't something I would search for in Waco Texas.... I used to enjoy Wako Roll. As of late there is absolutely no customer service. NONE... You order from a Kiosk and they want a tip. If you're paying with cash don't go at shift change because we were told when we went to order and pay for our food "it would be awhile" before the person could even help us because she had to count down the drawer. I understand that from 37 plus years in the industry I get it, however the customer comes first. Take the order call it back, then ring it up and bring it bill to the table and collect the $$ rather than encourage the $$ to the resturant across the way. Logan's Road House was very happy to give us prompt courteous service and they were happy to take our cash without a wait because it was cash. The food was below average . Quality of food not worth the price paid. The photos attached show that you cannot see the the grains of rice ... it's just one big piece . The sushi was all mush and there was obviously no texture to it. They were also very slow prepping the food. We went @330 on a Wednesday -- no one in line and still took 25 minutes for the food to be ready . Had the bulgogi and pork bibimbop on the 2nd night of opening. Everything was half off which made it delicious. Their sushi is about the same as Teriyaki park being that its the same owners. If you go, definitely try the korean food. This is the only place to eat Korean food in waco as Kitok's Bulgogi sucks and I would stick to their burgers even though they are korean run. Not sure why you would bother offering delivery if you don't plan on delivering... I was very excited to try this place when we were visiting Waco and we placed our order at around 8p and the ETA was 45 min (okay, cool). After 9p we gave the delivery service a call and were told that our order was almost done and should be out to us 20-30 min later. 45 min later still nothing so we called again and they told us that they only had 1 delivery driver so it would be late but assured us that the order had been made and would get to us. After 10p, we received a text letting us know our order had been cancelled because the restaurant was now closed (no kidding!). Honestly horrible horrible experience. Not sure why you can't just offer your delivery service on Uber Eats and Grubhub like everyone else. At least they're reliable. After all this, we ended up having to drive thru Whataburger because nothing else was open at that time. Bummer, but the burger was good. read more

We had been a little weary of trying this place because of reviews but finally decided to bite the bullet since we were in the area. So glad we did! The food was amazing. The service was fast and friendly. The dining area was clean and the crowd was vibrant. The menu was a bit pricey but after having had the food, definitely worth the cost. The Wako Roll (big roll) was gooooood. It was a very large portion and more than filled me up. I had to share! The Kalbi was delicious and a very large portion as well. The sides were delicious. It came with lettuce leaves and black rice - both very good. The boba tea was delicious and the smoothie suggestion was great! Definitely try the Almond Smoothie with boba. Their having high-chairs was a huge bonus for us. Great food, great environment! read more

I think Wako Roll serves great sushi. I like coming here during lunch hours Mon-Fri to get their sushi specials which is only $10. You get 3 different rolls and it's so delicious!
