Came here for lunch one day and left extremely disappointed. For starters the food is decent nothing amazing but not disgusting either. I had a Tofu taco, Miso soup, and Edamame. The edamame was really good and very salty. The miso soup was also good a lot of spinach was in it and I enjoyed it. The taco was okay it had two small pieces of tofu and quite a bit of the Korean BBQ sauce which had a kick. Now onto the part that upset me, the service was awful. The were so many health hazards at this restaurant. For starters the cashier was extremely rude and was scratching and rubbing her scalp and then was touching food and making take out containers of ginger and wasabi without washing her hands. There was another male employe that was eating his food touching the cash register and then making food and serving. The restaurant was very messy and dusty as well. There was a dirty table next to ours that probably remained that way for over 20 minutes. Over all the foods fine the service not so much. Probably won't be dining at Waco Roll again. read more

I had to approach counter to place my order and he seemed irritated and unwilling to correct issue and said he can no longer sell that item even though they carry it. When I asked him to report the mistake to a manager, he said he couldn't do anything about the computer error and was super rude. The place was very nice and clean. Friendly and welcoming. It was a small place but it didn't look crowded. If that makes sense. There is no special service. You get your own utensils. Whatever condiments you might want. The only thing they'd do is bring your order to you table no complaints. What i really didn't like about the place is that it is a bit overpriced. I mean, it is completely ridiculous to get a large boba tea for about $2 more and only get a smidget more. I feel like you'd get more by just putting an extra dollar and getting a 2nd boba. Also they charge about $11 for the bibimbap and some much dollars for some meat to go with it? Maybe i'm comparing these prices to bigger cities but it's just not worth it to me unless i'm dying to eat some korean food. I think what blew my mind was the rice cakes on the red sauce( i forgot what it is called) it's a korean street food. $14 for a plate. Not so great experience at Wako Roll. My daughter and I ordered the tofu taco & vegetarian roll. We asked if the vegetarian roll is vegan and employee did not know what vegan is. We explained-no dairy, egg, or animal product, & and she hesitated and said yes. If you serve tofu or vegetarian at your restaurant, employers should train their workers to know what is vegan. Secondly, my tofu taco came out before the vegetarian roll. We had to wait 25 minutes for it! I was done with my taco, before my daughter got her vegetarian roll! No apology was offered. My taco was good however; but my daughter did not think the vegetarian roll was great (big asparagus pieces, mushy avocado, and fell apart easily). Been looking for a good sushi bar in Texas, I wont say this is bad but definitely not as good as we would have liked. It is on par with H.E.B. but offers a better variety, the best thing for me was the Boba! What's a little weird is going to food establishments that have their freezers and storage in the same area that you eat in. Hey, maybe thats a normal thing for TX and I'm the weird one, LOL! It's reassuring to remind myself that there's a world beyond the lame brats, fish fries and greasy cheese curds I have to endure in wisconsin. Wako roll serves Korean staples like bimbimbap and bulgogi, plus a wide variety of maki and nigiri sushi. This is a order at the counter and sit down kind of place; perfect for tired travelers such as myself looking for a quick bite before heading to a bleak hotel room for the night. There are lots of pictures on the wall showing what you can get for the food illiterate. If you're expecting "Asian buffet food trough" quantities and prices, look elsewhere. I managed to get more than enough food without breaking my meager per diem. I started with a couple of pieces of nigiri sushi. The tuna was nothing spectacular, but the "white tuna" I got was very interesting. It was lightly seared on one side and sprinkled with a spicy seasoning of some sort. I gawked at some of the rolls other customers ordered and they looked presentable. I decided to order spicy squid bimbimbap with black rice in a clay pot. That arrived sizzling and insanely hot, giving me plenty of cool-down time to write this review. I was regretting the clay pot because I was sure that the residual heat would turn my squid into rubber bands, but that didn't happen. This was almost too much to eat and I'm a pretty big guy. My only quibble was likely my own fault for ordering black rice that didn't really form a "crust" on the bottom the way white rice would. This seems to be a great "fast food" sushi restraunt. I liked that you pay first, but the person who took my order could have been friendlier. Also, the fact that you have to decide what you want before you sit is a down side for me. Sushi and other items they serve have so many options that I don't like to worry about someone waiting on me while I stand and read the menu. I got the house salad (totally recommend), the French-kiss roll (not my favorite), and honeydew bubble tea (really good). The display of the food is A+ though. read more

We have eaten here before and we liked it a lot. We live a hour away and came back down to enjoy this place again. We were very disappointed this time around. The sushi wasnt as good as in the past. My husbands roll had a piece of fin in it, he is not a picky eater but that was not fun for him. We also noticed some large cockroaches near the bathroom ,a live roaming around. Average maybe below average place however it's the only Korean (and Japanese) restaurant in Waco. Their bibimbap is not the greatest but I still get it because of how healthy it is. Now this place is a lil tricky. They got a big ass menu basically written in hieroglyphics so unless you're Egyptian, good luck. I finagled my way to a French kiss roll, there is a translator on standby #noworries to be honest, it kind of tasted like some BBQ sushi, I did make myself eat all of it. I will say it was tastefully crafted. The side of fried rice I had was hands down the best, apparently this is a local favorite. I tried a couple pieces of my co workers sushi and those were pretty good too, I didn't hear what the translator said those were called. I'd go back, definitely would try a different roll. 3 rolls of sushi, side of fried rice and Chinese soup plus 2 drinks was 48 bucks. Glad it was on a company card. We came here to eat a late night dinner on a Friday night. Being one of the very few seemingly legit asian restaurants in Waco, let alone Korean food, my boyfriend and I were looking forward to it. Having lived my whole life in Houston, my standard for Asian food is pretty high. I was somewhat disappointed with Wako Roll. We ordered the following: seafood soon tofu jigae (soup), galbee (beef short ribs), spider roll, and the tempura roll. Our check came out to a pricey $45. The portion vs price ratio disappointed me. For example the galbee was $13 and was on a plate the size of a DVD case. The Korean food we had was not as a flavorful or spicy (i.e. jigae) as traditionally cooked Korean food. I thought the sushi was OK, made with fresh ingredients, but not something I would want to order again. In all, the space is clean with nice interior design, but the food tastes a little blander than what I'd expect. The price is too much for food that can be bought for cheaper prices that are tastier, flavorful, and served in larger portions in a big city. Save your money and go on a trip to Dallas' Koreatown or Houston's Chinatown! read more

I was so happy to see a Korean restaurant open up in Waco. I went to Korea on a trip a couple years ago and I've been dreaming of having some good authentic bulgogi and bibimbap ever since I got home. I'm not adventurous enough to try and of the sushi dishes yet. I want to though. And the green tea ice cream sounds good. I'll definitely be going back at least twice a month, if not more. I went back today and was a little disappointed by the Galbee. It was tough and the bones were still in most the pieces of meat. And there was lots of fat on it still. It was tasty though. This place is a few months old and occupy a suite location in the Central Highland Marketplace. Waco is known to have limited choice on Asian food, but Wako Rolls defies that and try to be a mix Korean-Japanese fusion restaurant. I've been here a few time. Not because the food was super great, but its the closest place to eating Asian food. A step away from all the BBQ joint in the area. The bulgogi (korean beef) was mediocre. It was a hit and miss on the sauce. On some part of the beef it was good, and other parts...well it was bland. Tried their sushi also. For the prices they charged, the amount you get is quite low. This is not a 5 star restaurant, yet they charge $10+ for rolls that comes out to be like 5 pieces..2 dollar a piece..yeah right. The services here is really much, there is just a walk up order and they bring it to you. Everything else was like a regular fast food restaurant, get up to the station and grab the items you that you needed. There's many type of fusion restaurant out there, majority of does not do well. I was excited to hear that there was a sushi place in town - but I think it's more accurate to describe this as a Korean fusion place. Our experience was good, but not great. I had the bulgogi taco and a California roll. I loved the taco, but my California roll was below average. My friend had a vegetarian roll which was mostly avocado and a tofu taco, which she really enjoyed. The boba drink (black tea) was amazing! I think the prices were a little high for a primarily self-service restaurant (you order when you walk in, get your utensils and condiments, an employee brings you your food). My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed everything we tried over the course of two visits. The pork bulgogi, beef bulgogi and chicken udon noodles were all delicious. My picky 3-yr-old loves the edamame and the kids chicken bowl with black rice. We tried the chicken express roll and the waco roll. Both were good, but the waco roll was pretty heavy eating. Deep fried plus beef and mayo means it was more filling than I'm used to for sushi. Still tasty if you're really hungry and love tempura! Being from a bigger city with more asian food choice, I'd normally rate this place at a 4 for the sushi being not the best I've had (though still good) but this is the best asian food I've had in Waco since moving here 6 mo. ago.
