I am a HUGE Walgreen's fan from way back when, but am a new resident in CA, so the Alameda store on Otis is new to me. Today I was sadly underwhelmed by the pharmacy there. I was told with gusto that my Rx would be ready in 20 minutes, to which I responded "Thanks, I'll be back in an hour." One hour later, the Rx was not filled. Apparently my new insurance plan doesn't cover one of my meds (naturally, the one I am almost out of). Instead of calling my Dr. for direction, they just put my paperwork aside. When I arrived they didn't indicate that they were waiting to find out what I wanted to do about it, they just stated that they needed to call my Dr. I am not saying they were waiting to hear back from her after making the call, either... they never made the call at all. So, knowing I'd be back in an hour, why didn't they do it? Don't get me wrong... I used to be a pharmacy technician myself so I know how hectic things can be behind the counter. It didn't appear to be particularly busy, but it's hard to tell how much paperwork is piled up waiting for processing back there. And it arrives in bunches sometimes. I understand that. I asked if I would be called when the issue is resolved and the pharmacist responded, "yeah, sure" without even making eye contact. Not a good sign. As it happens, my Dr. called me herself about something else a few hours after I got back home and I mentioned the no-coverage-for-that-med issue. She said the pharmacy never called, but that she would find out what alternative is covered on my plan and fax over a new Rx immediately. I still have not heard from them eight hours later, and I get the feeling I never will. Am I to believe they still have not processed that new paperwork, which I am confident my Dr. sent within an hour of our call? They could have simply filled the new Rx and called any time today and it would have taken away my "Bad Customer Service" cloud. Clearly they just don't care to provide more than so-so service. What bugs me is two things... 1) My prescriptions were "in line" ahead of anybody else who wasn't physically standing there waiting, and an hour was enough time to get them done. They either manage their work remarkably poorly or they are grossly understaffed. Both are unacceptable. 2) Why set up the expectation of service and then not even try to meet it? I did not ask them to have it ready in 20 minutes, they volunteered. Had they said, "because you and your insurance are new, can we have the rest of the day to fill this to make sure any problems get resolved?" I would have cheerfully said, "no problem!" EXPECTATION is to customer service as location is to real estate. Instead, I am arranging to fill the rest of my Rx refills by mail order from now on and will tell anybody who asks that they should have low expectations at this pharmacy, no matter what they promise. I can't say that this Walgreens is any better than the others in the area, but if you need quick photo printing or need to refill your clipper card; they can definitely take care of you in a timely manner. Also, this is one of the cleanest locations that I have been to in a while, the floors sparkle, the air smells fresh, and the shelves are always fairly well stocked. read more

***GO TO THE ONE ON PARK ST*** (so much better) PHARMACY SPECIFICALLY* wow wasted almost 1 hour for a damn vaccine that I never even got. this place is so disorganized and understaffed to the point in which there is a long line but only 1 pharm tech. The pharm tech was legit a pain in the ass. He was talking gossip about the customer and was telling me how those people are so problematic this and that. BLAH BLAH BLAH. First of all you don't do that. Secondly you don't complain to your customers about your experiences with other customers. That is just super unprofessional. I don't even know how he got the job in the first place. So my story is I went in to get a follow up shot. I told the shot I needed and he was like what what what shot again for FIVE times. That process took him 10 mins to fully understand and and get what shot I was telling him. He legit didn't know what he was doing. For him to print out the paper work took another 10 minutes. So that took 20 minutes total. Then I go fill out those papers and then when I finished to go return it I have to stand in line for another 20 minutes because apparently some privileged person who thought they were privileged enough to hold up the line and cause unnecessary drama. GIRL take your drama outside and act like an adult because YOU'RE AN ADULT ACTING LIKE A KID. In total I waited for almost an hour to get the vaccine. In the end what did I get out from all the waiting...NOTHING i left the Walgreens went to the one on Park St. In and out within 5 minutes!!! read more

A bad experience every time and at all hours. Doesn't matter if you stand in line or if you try the drive thru, you're guaranteed at least a 30 minute wait. If there's nobody in line, you'll still wait because the staff are doing things behind the counter I can't explain, but seem to be more important than helping the customer. Nobody has been mean or provided poor service, it's just REALLY slow and they always seem to be understaffed and/or trying to catch up on filling prescriptions. Have seen lots of people who have text messages from the pharmacy saying that the prescription is ready, only to have them say that they're still working on it when they arrive. Not a good experience. Avoid it if you can. read more

I was on hold with the pharmacy for 46 minutes. Someone has picked up the phone and hung up on me twice now, requiring me to call back and spend even more time on hold. It has taken about two hours out of my day at this point. I have never had this issue at any other Walgreens. read more

Went to the Walgreens drive-thru pharmacy to pick up some Sudafed. I was told to wait until the indoor customers were served. After waiting for sometime, I was told that I would have to go inside and wait in the indoor line because they do not sell Sudafed through the drive-thru even though I offered my ID. I got inside and had to wait in line all over again. The pharmacy tech, Lihn, didn't save me a spot in line or anything. There was no sign outside and Lihn never instructed me of this as well when I was first waiting outside. This place can be hit or miss. It really all depends on the cashier you get. I think it's usually the younger women who give me problems with my coupons. The problem is that many of the employees here are not even aware of their own coupon policies. They should make it a priority that the employees know the coupon policy and can deal with coupons accordingly. Seriously, I'm not trying to pull any kind of scam or rip off the store, I am just trying to get the best bang for my buck, and many times I get grief over it. If you are an avid coupon user like myself, don't take the employee's word. Bring in the coupon policy with you and ask for the manager if you must. Be patient and polite but stand your ground. I placed an order for my medication through the app, it had been a while and i still had not heard back from them so i checked my app again .. said action needed call the pharmacy coo coo coo first time i call im on hold for 29 min and then they hang up on me, 2 nd time i call im on hold for 35 min and then they hang up on me, 3 time im calling from my car cause im pissed i am now going down there and some one will hear about this bs. When i get there, yes there is a line yes they are a tad busy.. but you can pick up the phone and say that not just hang up on people and completely waste their f***n time . I get there being on hold for another 15 min i go to the counter and i tell the clerk the situation he does not make eye contact w me he takes my pill bottle and does some clicking on his computer (again he doesn't even look at me) and says ok its put in. So i question why i had to call he couldn't give me a definite answer, so i asked to speak to a manager back there and thats when he looks at me and says he is the manager Fai is his name. So wtf kind of costumer service is that? And says he's sorry about that. Ok so i asked why did i have to call? No definite answer again takes my bottle and says he will look into to mmmhh now right? Then tells me that i put in the wrong prescription number NO i put no prescription number i just clicked on my prescription. He says the number was changed cause its a new prescription NO I HAVE BEEN TAKING THIS MEDICATION FOR 10 YEARS!!!!!! THERE IS NOTHING NEW ABOUT IT. Been going to South Shore Walgreens for 20 years. Typical is Mary G. I left some small purchases on the counter after I paid for them. Returning 3 days later she walked up and handed them to me. If you have concerns with this store, just try the other Alameda drugstore chains. You can find an employee in the aisles at Walgreens anytime to help find something for you. Try that at Southsore Safeway! One customer compains that the editing machine ate her over 1000! photographs. Go figure, editing a thousand photos while other's wait. Perhaps she might have edited them down to the ones she wanted via her camera or PC and saved others grief by hogging the machines at the photo shop. Then we have Novela of the working pooch. I understand the problems those with disabilities have, as my wife is disabled. But to equate a manager's ignorance of the disability laws with racism is quite a stretch. What a crank. read more

My daughter and I were in Alameda doing some other shopping and we stopped in at this store just to pick up a couple of items. We got our 2 items and went to the photo counter to check out because the lines were long at the front of the store. We approached the counter and my daughter says "Hello." Cashier says nothing; just scans the items. She didn't ask if we'd found everything OK, nor did she ask if I had a Balance Reward card (I do, and luckily I already knew to type in my phone number, because this woman offered no assistance). In fact she said nothing throughout the entire transaction, other than "$10" when she handed me my receipt and my cash back.. She acted as if the only reason she rang us up was because we happened to be at her register, and she HAD to. She didn't even say "thank you" when the transaction was done. Being the person i am, I did say 'thank you" to her, although I shouldn't have . Of course she didn't respond. What was I thanking her for anyway - her complete lack of customer service? I'm not sure, but I AM sure I won't be returning to this Walgreens any time in the near future. read more

I have yet to have a good experience with the pharmacy. The last time, the pharmacy technician was very rude, sighing loudly, and rolling her eyes at all of the customers. She gave me a ten-fifteen minute ETA for my prescription to be filled, and 45 minutes later, they still hadn't called my name. What was worse is that they kept an elderly customer waiting for her meds for even longer -- I actually went up to the counter and reminded them to take care of her. They had forgotten to call her name and let her know her script was ready. I get that it was busy -- I really do. But the rudeness and the eye rolling? Completely unacceptable. I just got off the phone with the pharmacy and they told me my husband's script wasn't ready, and they didn't even ask for his first name. There is no way they could look up with just the last name -- they always ask for a first name or date of birth. I gave her the last name and she said, "No, not ready yet," and hung up. I think the store is a two star and the pharmacy is a four, so I split the difference. The problem with this store is it serves a lot of elderly people in its pharmacy and that can take awhile. And they have this bizarre drive through that people think is like a fast food drive through. They think they are circumventing the line inside the store. But if there's only one pharm tech, the cars have to wait. This makes them act like self-entitled brats. What is really good about this place is they understand insurance billing and contact my doctor's office directly when I need a refill. I order refills online and pick up the next day and they never have let me down. Best option on the east side. read more

There's not a lot that melts my black heart, but the overall kindness of the store employees and pharmacy staff at this particular Walgreens merits a Yelp review. Considering this is a 24hour Walgreens store AND pharmacy, this location is about as good as it gets. I went to pick up a few things at 1am... the dark hours of the night when people are overworked, underpaid, and generally not "bright eyed and bushy tailed" to be working retail. (I've been dying to use that phrase in a serious context so what a perfect opportunity.) Instead of expecting to be greeted with an eye roll or sigh walking in so late, I walked in the store and was greeted by two friendly employees. -The night manager was on the floor (already a good sign) with a smile on his face and didn't disappear for the entire 45 minutes of my store visit. -There were two employees stationed behind the cashier ready to help, even though the store was rather empty-- I appreciate not having to locate a cashier while balancing two baskets full of heavy shampoo bottles, cereal, etc. -There was an employee sweeping up the floor (yay for cleanliness) and re-stocking the shelves later on (This store has a large selection of everything a drugstore should have). -The pharmacist was such a saint!!!! I had a small problem filling my prescription, but she was helpful, patient, efficient, and SOOO incredibly sweet and friendly throughout the entire mess that I couldn't live with myself if I didn't give her the recognition she deserved. Remember--- This is a 24hr pharmacy in Alameda. Although it's in a nice area with a huge parking lot, it's the ONLY one open 24hrs so it gets a lot of traffic from shady neighborhoods nearby. However, the lovely Carol Ann who was working at pharmacy treated everyone with the same courtesy and respect that she showed me. -The store was in a safe location and I shopped and filled my prescription without having to hold my pepper spray around. The fact that there's enough employees and the manager on the floor even at odd hours made the experience feel just as normal and safe as a I imagine a 2pm grocery run with my own personal bodyguard would be. 5 stars for being open 24 hours, excellent staff, safe experience, clean, well-stocked, decent location. read more

This Walgreens store is an absolute nightmare!! The service is horrible and the pharmacy staff are a bunch of rude idiots that never know what they are doing. Not to mention all of their crap in this store is crappy and expensive. The Walgreens rewards program also sucks and barely even does anything for it's customers. No more business from me regarding Walgreens, I enjoy doing business with CVS instead.
