I'm a bit of a regular here so most of the staff recognize me when I come in. Which is great customer appreciation as far as I'm concerned. Several even know me by name at the pharmacy. Friendly and helpful staff. Pharmacy employees always courteous and work as quickly as possible to get your prescriptions filled. Pharmacy complaint. Staff is unprofessional, and rarely answers the phone even during non-peak hours. One employee/pharmacist has a loud, grating, hostile voice. Their lack of bare minimum customer service is a disservice. Elderly patients rely on your pharmacy for assistance. Common decency would go a long way. Every time I come to this Walgreens, I spend at LEAST 30 minutes, often more, waiting in line to pick up my prescription in the drive thru. Even going inside doesn't net much faster service. It's utterly ridiculous that I should have to waste over an hour of my day, in total, to pick up an already filled prescription that is medically necessary. JFC. read more

I just visit this location at 6am, buying my goods before starting my day! Witness a lady stealing and keep putting stuff in the bag. Somehow the security had try to confront her but since the lady refused & throw a fuse. The security gave up and let her go... I was shock on how easily she got away. Went into this Walgreens to buy some things as I am browsing I noticed that the employee keeps staring at me and she keeps walking up and down by my isle every 5 seconds this annoys me but I ignore her because I know I'm gonna buy whatever is in my basket ...anyways as I start to head to the register I am checking in my basket to make sure I have everything I need and then I guess she saw me putting put my hand in the basket and I saw the moment she looked at me with my hand in the basket and she immediately got suspicious again this irritates me but whatever again, I know I am going to buy everything in my basket and that they can check me at the exit, if they want . I start to walk to the register and I pay for everything and I head out once I am in the parking lot I notice their security guard staring at me and trying to check my license plate! Now I am pissed ! She didn't ask to check my stuff before leaving the store or anything but she still told a security guard that I am stealing ! And I can only imagine they wanted my license plate to give it to the police. This is completely unprofessional and uncalled for. If she was that suspicious of me why didn't she ask the security guard to check my belongings BEFORE leaving the store ?! Anyways I see the security guard trying to get my license plate so I turn my car on fast to avoid this only to have him hop in his security car and he literally starts tailing me around the parking lot as I am trying to get away. As I leave I am just left wondering how somebody can do something like this without having definitive proof and be so irresponsible to just give the police license plate numbers just based on a bad suspicion. WORST WALGREENS . And that isn't even including the pharmacy, I wouldn't say they are understaffed but the people who work their act like they are too busy to even acknowledge that they see you . However if you dare to look annoyed at their lack of good customer service you are met with annoyance and more waiting . This place is the WORST! Do yourself a favor and just go elsewhere read more

This is going to be a rant and then a rave... but hear me out: 2 stars because they fail to hire qualified and educated people in management positions... but 5 stars to an individual in the pharmacy department. Here we go... 10/22/07 I went into this store at 5:50pm (I'm looking at my receipt for the exact details). Accompanying me, wearing his bright red Service Dog Vest was Der Hund, who was leashed, calm and clearly identified by (duh) the SERVICE DOG VEST and the multiple patches on it that say, I'M A SERVICE DOG. The power-tripping Assistant Manager, named Mohammed Tapis (just Tapis on his name tag) approached me and demanded that I leave the store because dogs were "not allowed" in the store. I replied, "But he's a Service Dog..." He said: "Doesn't matter. No dogs allowed in store. You have to leave now." I pointed to Der Hund's vest. And the patches. "It's against the law for you to throw us out of the store," I said... not believing how ignorant this man was. "What if I was blind, and I had a seeing eye dog with me - that's a service dog, too... " I fumbled around in the zip pocket of Der Hund's vest for the Service Dog Identification Cards, but was so flustered, I didn't realize I was looking in the wrong pocket. "That's different," he said. I asked him how it was different, and told him he was in violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act by telling us to leave, and said, "Fine, I'll leave, but I'm going to buy this toothpaste, first." "No! You leave now. Our company has never allowed dogs in the store. Leave your dog outside, then come back to buy," he shouted at me. A small crowd was gathering and I was so humiliated. "I want to speak to the Manager." "I am the Manager." I should have known from the spiffy blue polyester vest he was wearing. But when I looked closer, it said Assistant Manager. "I'm buying this toothpaste, and then I'm leaving. Give me your name and the name of your manager," I said, firmly, my cheeks flushed with rage. He said, "Tapis." That's all? What's your full name? Write it down for me on a piece of paper. Grudgingly, he complied. "What's your last name?" He refused to tell me, insisting that everybody at the store knew him. Whatever. I just wanted proof, in his writing, of his identity. I bought my toothpaste, and was so upset, I nearly drove all the way home but then decided that I had to set him straight. I called the non-emergency line of the police department to make a complaint report and have them follow up. Instead, they said that an officer could meet me and take a field report. I thought that was a better idea, because then they could see my time-stamped receipt, Tapis would still be at the store, and the police officer could see that Der Hund was properly wearing his Service Dog ID Vest. An Officer Santamaria took my report, verified that Der Hund was properly identified and wearing his Service Dog Vest and accompanied me back to the store, where she explained to this brilliant, sensitive Mr. Mohammed that by law, Service Dogs are allowed in stores. He played stupid and said he didn't know that Der Hund was a Service Dog... although he clearly recognized what a Seeing Eye Dog is. Whatever. I ended up talking to the District Manager, who apologized for his employee's lack of education... suggesting that maybe his English skills weren't up to the level of "understanding" what a Service Animal is. I didn't buy it. Do me a favor: If you go into the store and see this guy, flip him off for me. That's the end of my rant. Negative 5 stars for Mohammed Tapis. My rave is for Tony, in the pharmacy department... I was filling a prescription for Prilosec, that my delightful insurance said was going to cost me just under $70 for a 30 day supply. Lovely. But Tony pointed out that the exact same dosage was available, over the counter... and he took the time to come out, into the retail portion of the store, walk me over to the product, and note that the price was $19.99 for 28 day supply. 5 Glowing Stars for Tony, who went out of his way to help me NOT get screwed over by Big Pharmaceuticals! Whenever I go to this 24 hour pharmacy location, I will let other people go ahead of me in line so that I can see Tony again, and thank him for the stellar service that he gave me. Tony wasn't just doing his job... he was being a kind and compassionate person, and I will never forget that. Rave, rave, rave! Avoid the ignorant, power-tripping assistant manager who harrassed me and my service dog. The Walgreens at the Alameda South Shore Center is located at the edge of the center on the corner of Otis and Park. Though the store is a few years old, it is not as bright and its aisles are not wide and spacious as the new Walgreens at the corner of Park and Tilden. Since the South Shore store is part of a shopping center, it's busy and there is usually a line to check-out. On most visits, the cashiers are friendly and efficient. I called to ask if they had the flu vaccine in stock. When they said yes, I took my son and we waited in line for half an hour, only to be told that they were out of stock. I said we only came because their answering machine said otherwise. The clerk replied that they meant to update that message but hadn't yet. When I lived within walking distance from this store the fact that it was open 24 hours and sold deli type food was great. However, the customer service can be horrendous. It isn't all the cashiers, just certain ones, and you can tell that the newer people are just as appalled at how customers are treated as the customers themselves. As merchants are updating their credit card readers, confusion is bound to happen, but the older cashiers are not only clueless but surly. My credit card has both a stripe and a chip so I can use it as a swipe card at other merchants who don't have the chip reader yet and I can use it as a more secure chip card at places that do. In the space of a week, Walgreens updated their card reader so that if your card has a chip it has to be used that way and cannot be swiped. This would be fine if their system was up to date and the chip reader actually worked. It didn't and the rude cashier loudly announced to the whole front end that my card was declined and I needed to find a different method of payment. A younger cashier tried to help and apologize on behalf of the new system, but the older lady kept yelling that my card was declined. I called my credit company just to be sure and they said it was indeed on Walgreens' end as they showed the charge, the approval of the charge, and Walgreens' initiated reversal of the charge. It seems that it was a company-wide problem, but the cashier at a different location explained that it was a problem with the system and they were working on it. Paying by cash rather than card while their system is being updated is not a big deal, but the service at this location was unwarranted. read more

Twice I've been to this Pharmacy in one week, and both instances were... sub-par. I'm sorry, but this has to be said. 1st Visit: Showing up at midnight for some pain medication, they told us the meds would be ready by 1:30am. Thinking to myself, waiting around would be very painful, and going home only to come back would be even more painful... I opted to pick up the meds in the morning. Before I left, I asked them if it would be ready by morning (sunrise). They said, "oh yes, of course." Coming back in the morning... the meds weren't ready. Awesome. Whatever 2nd Visit: Several days later, yesterday, I went back for another set of more powerful meds prescribed by my back specialist. They quoted an hour and a half. Well, instead of waiting around, we went to Applebees (see review below!). After going back nearly 2 hours later, the meds, again, weren't ready. We asked what was taking so long, and the lady at the window responded dismissively, "we're backed up right now." Shit, I work in the service industry, and you take into account how "backed up" you are... and you quote your time according to that. Whatever... we waited another 20 mins, and it was then ready. What gave them their 2nd Star, instead of their well-deserved 1 Star was their Pharmacist. When she came to the window to instruct me on how to use the meds, she was very nice and clarified some of the questions I had. These meds were getting a bit serious, so I had to make sure I wasn't going to kill myself by taking them incorrectly. I was pretty satisfied with my interaction with her alone... but the entire process, beginning to end (minus the instructional) was pretty horrific. Walgreens, that Pharmacist saved your asses from a 1 Star. Be lucky she works there. read more

It's a Walgreens, what can you really expect? They usually have generic household items, you can really ONLY go there if you need generic household items. No comment about the pharmacy; I use the one at Safeway 100 yards away. The service is hit or miss. They have one or two people in management positions who care about their jobs and customers, but then they have these two older witches who bitch across the checkout aisle to each other, act like someone just pissed in their chicken noodle soup, and make grunting/unhappy noises while they're "helping" you. Part of their training should be entitled "if you're 55 and working at Walgreen's, here's how to show some respect to people half your age with double your IQ." Enough said. read more

They have a 24-hour pharmacy, they're in the biggest shopping center on the island, and the people-watching is excellent (although scary). Overall selection is less than the Walgreen's on Webster, but at 1am, this may not be your biggest issue. read more

Been coming here for years and recently switched our pharmacy plan to Walgreens. Like any other pharmacy plan change, it was not easy but was better than switching to my new health plan's on-line pharmacy. Initially had many problems with the Walgreens pharmacy in terms of getting prescriptions filled, but those seem to have been smoothed out over time. Went to get passport photos done. No waiting when I got there. Took just minutes and the lady taking the photos really seemed to know what she was doing. Don't wear a white shirt because the background for the photo is already white. read more

This review is for the photo center and James in particular. I needed to get a new passport photo taken and Walgreens is the closest option. When James showed me the photo he had taken with a digital camera I noticed there was equal parts chest and face. I asked if he could retake it with less body this time. He said he could but he assured me he knew what he was doing as he'd taken 1000's of passport photos. So I said never mind then to just use that one. James assured me he didn't want to see more than necessary either as he continued to mumble about his expertise. If that is the case why focus the camera on anything but my face? I did get the requisite photo of my face after much cropping so I guess he he does know what he's doing after all. read more

Came here to buy some coconut water, the store was basically empty and as were the lines, when the cashier said "next customer" I walked up to her, no "hi, did you find every ok?" she just rang me up and asked if I had a rewards card, I told her yes but not with me, asked for my phone #, gave it and didn't even tell me that she found me, I asked if it was the correct #? she said yes. Mind you through out this entire process she was chatting it up with the other two cashiers next to her and didn't tell me my total and when to swipe my card, I had to look at the atm slider and do it myself. Once my receipt was printed out, she handed it to me, while turned away and STILL talking to her friends, and that was it. It's a bad habit of me but I always say "thank you" when someone hands me something, so I did, no response. Lol, wow. I don't expect STELLAR customer services at places like this (CVS, Walgreens, any drug store), but I mean... seriously? I've worked in customer service for majority of my teenage & early 20s years & are the type to go that extra mile... So seeing people like these particular ladies have work and good people who can't find a job to save their lives and to put food on the table, makes my stomach turn. The pharmacy is THE WORST! They market in slowness, poor communication and surliness. My doctor called in a prescription that was to be ready "within the hour." 3 hours later and it hasn't been filled, yet people arriving immediately with paper prescription are told 20 minutes. And when I calmly ask why the previous customer was told 20 minutes from the time she stepped up to the counter with a paper prescription while they had 3 hours to fill mine and hadn't, she shouted at me to stop yelling at her (I wasn't.) I asked her if it would be faster or a higher priority to have a paper prescription. "No, it's the same." Then why the wait? No excuse. They clearly fill the prescriptions of those they arbitrarily feel need the them more (I'd argue; but it wouldn't matter.) I like to play by the rules, but when the rules aren't stated or change by the moment, it's hard to do. read more

Review is specifically for Carlo or Carlos who was working the photo counter. He helped my wife and I out editing a photo for my wife's passport application. He definitely provided much more service you'd expect. He was also very patiently helping out a woman who didn't have a lot of knowledge about mobile phones, printing, storage, etc, which I'm sure is a pretty common situation. Let me start off with saying this review is based solely on the Pharmacy. If you are sick and need a prescription filled; "DO NOT" and I mean it "DO NOT" come to this pharmacy! The pharmacy staff will tell you, that your prescription will be ready in twenty minutes, but be prepared to wait over an hour even though they know you are waiting for it. This is not the first time that they have kept me waiting over an hour for my prescriptions; despite telling me they would be ready in twenty minutes. They also seem to be lacking in the customer service area. If one of their pharmacy associates see someone who has been waiting past the allotted time that they told the customer it would only seem prudent for them to check on the customers prescription and at least give the customer a new time frame instead of ignoring them. This common courtesy would go a long way toward making the wait bearable. Walgreens needs to hire more pharmacists if they insist on telling everyone that their prescriptions will be ready in twenty minutes. For the amount of money each of my prescriptions cost, I think they can afford to. Lastly, I will no longer be using this Pharmacy to fill my prescriptions. Pharmacies should be convenient to use; when they are no longer convenient it is time to look for a new one. read more

I am glad this store has a pharmacy that is open 24 hours, but that is about it for benefits. I have never experience such long waits in line at a pharmacy, and rarely have my prescriptions been ready in the time frame given. Granted they are busy, but the lines and wait time show they are understaffed for their customer load - poor management. Pharmacy people are hit and miss with time they spend with you and whether or not they can muster up courtesy. I opt for the CVS on Santa Clara - their pharmacy people (and register checkouts) are much faster and friendlier. Also noticed some of the same scripts are less expensive there. Only use this Otis Walgreens in emergencies as it is closer to my home. Maybe the one on Webster does a better job with customer service. read more

The best thing about this Walgreen's is that the Pharmacy is open 24 hours a day. If you have a child who needs pain medicine in the middle of the night, you'll find that this is a feature that is few and far between. --We'll give an extra star for that! This review applies to the pharmacy. They have introduced a new level of incompetence. Your monthly refills will not be processed. You have to call every single month to get it filled. It's always a different excuse and to make matters worse, you are on hold forever waiting for someone to answer the phone. I've had good and mediocre experiences here. I think the first one they had here at South Shore had better mojo before they tore it down and created this one. I was young so I cannot with a straight face tell you I remember how the first one looked, but this one is different. There is more space at this one than the one on Webster - that one always feels as if they try to put as much on the floor as possible. But anyway for your quick in-and-out needs Walgreens will rarely disappoint. They now have an area where you can buy perishables like sandwhiches and fresh fruits, though it's not as advanced as some other Walgreens stores. Also, their makeup section is seriously lacking, to the point of being nonexistant when it comes to diversity for different skin tones. Ah well, at least I have options when it comes to lip gloss and chapstick. read more

The only thing I like this store is that it's 7/24. Before making your decision shopping here, you'd better check out other supermarkets around. The Safeway next to this Walgreen's is also 7/24. Prices in this Walgreen's store is higher than most other stores. If you could find the item in other nearby stores, don't try to go to this Walgreen's. What's worse is that this store puts a lot of blue price tags under the items, saying that buying some specific items would give you many Walgreen's Award Points.
